      I wouldn't pay for, or use, a generic programme made by a social media influencer. I'd much rather pay for a trainer at my gym to make me a tailored programme so I know it's suited to my fitness level and goals.

    I find it funny when fitness influencers say to just switch your DL stance.. as if everyone can just pick a new stance and get proper technique while lifting at the same volume/weight. For learning purposes or functional purposes i can see the benefit, but they really are banking on body composition not being a factor.
    I'd like to see KK fit stack two plates on the ground and try to lift conventional while standing on them, cause that's what conventional is like for people with long legs and a short torso 😂 if they can do it at the same weight and great form, i'll try it out 🤣

    I am SO glad you’re talking about this. I noticed this a couple years ago and thought it was odd. I’ve been lifting for a few years & I’m currently studying for my CPT through NASM & I’ve worked in gyms, trainers typically charge around 30-40 an hour but that’s for an IN PERSON 1 v 1 service…. Most programs that are universal are like $10-$20 a month and like 6-10 weeks for a subscription or $60 to download a PDF (still too much in IMO). Their $200+ programs are literally just PDF’s, and last I saw not even adding photos to show examples of movements. Even my NASM textbook was cheaper than that. Workout books at book stores are cheaper than that. They claim it’s cause of how much work they put into it that’s why it’s so high, but they would sell so much more if they lowered the price & it’d be way more profitable.

    Video Notes Time!
    Introduction: Looking forward to the like goal being smashed again, and was a fan of the smiley face that came along with it!
    Already agree that $250 for a super generic program is not remotely worth it, though given your feelings towards Gymshark (shoutout to your most popular video), don’t know if Gymshark is going to want to provide you with anything at this point.
    Appreciate the clarification on types of progressive overload here, and debunking some myths on deloading here, as there is no set “prescription” for deloading as it is very much an individual thing. I’ll give them props for the “positive mindset checklist” as well, something very similar in the TFNL Tier Programme too.
    Not much for me to add with a lot of the rest of the video to be honest, as always, high quality information from you with some debunking of information, and good recommendations on more optimal exercise selection and proper form, very important stuff to keep in mind! I didn’t know the Arnold Press was so suboptimal compared to just doing a regular shoulder press. I also appreciated the information on optimal bicep work, an area I desperately want to grow as well.
    Your bit on Volume towards the end and the set/rep scheme you recommended sounds quite a lot like what you recently started challenging me to do, so it was a nice reminder/clarification here on why you do consider it be so optimal/effective! :)
    Loved the video, very informative, and some great recommendations! Will definitely be watching it back at some point when I’m deciding on exercise selection in the future. Keep on educating and entertaining!

    Nothing against them, but paying over $200 for a PDF of workouts and a nutrition overview is absurd. Fitness influencer guides do not consider your exercise history, limitations or injuries, or your lifestyle. If you're into supporting them, then go right ahead. If you want to save money and just get workout and meal ideas, then you can do that for free or little cost. TFNL already has a free training template in the video description. If you really need professional guidance, then spend the money on a certified personal trainer and/or registered dietitian where they can personalize your plan.

Some influencers just throw exercises out in these guides for "volume" when in reality they don't need to be and they don't really have a purpose, they just become junk reps. I love the Arnold shoulder press, but now that you mentioned its limitations, I am starting to think I may need to swap it 😁.
    BTW: simple curiosity... This video is quite long, I assume you had even more raw footage. Probably close to 2 hours or at least one hour & 1/2. How do you have time to film & edit & everything else while also training & adding uni / work on top? You are a super human, Harry 💪. I think there may be an argument for women deloading more often than men because their bodies and performance level can be significantly influenced by the stage of the menstrual cycle they are in. Not deloading or reducing intensity of workouts during the luteal phase can result in undesirable consequences such as low mood and exhaustion. Strength training is still fairly new for me, I still haven't ventured into the gym. I have looked at your programme but I just wanted an opinion. I do 3 full body strength training sessions a week at home - what would you focus on first? Legs or upper body, I usually switch between the two but I feel like I'm not progressing. I also complete interval running 3 times a week for my mental health and shutting my brain up. Could this be counterproductive?

    • @matildacarlstedt

      @@matildacarlstedt Yeah as much as I can, I do only have two sets of dumbbells and resistance bands at home. I do want to start at the gym but while I'm working from home I don't have a gym close enough on public transport.

    • @xrejieli
      @xrejieli 2 роки тому +1

      I think in terms of training upper body vs legs, it depends on what your goals are. If you want to build muscle overall, then train both upper and lower body equally. Depending on the intensity of the running (how long you run for, and how fast) it could be limiting the amount of muscle you’re able to build and this could be why you feel like you’re not progressing with your lifts, but I’m not 100% sure on that. For me, my primary goal is building muscle so I focus more on lifting and only do low intensity cardio (LISS) 2 times a week. But I can appreciate that it running is important if it helps to maintain your mental health. If you are able to access a gym, I’d definitely suggest it like Matilda has. Now (and going into the new year) would be a good time to join a gym because there will be lots of new people joining too, so that could help make it a less intimidating environment (if that’s something you’re worried about). Hope that’s helpful ☺️

    • @matildacarlstedt
      @matildacarlstedt 2 роки тому

      @@MsTormentedDoll as long as you really challenge the weights and do heavier gradually you overload. If you can go to a gym maybe once a week you can try out heavier weights and the basic movements with barbell (squats, deadlift, hip thrusts and so on). It will give you some more room to see how much you can take. There are dumbells that you can load like you do with a barbell, maybe that can be something for your homegym? I really wish you all the best and I admire your discipline - that will take you far!

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  2 роки тому

    So, if I am doing Sydney Cummings videos (example of today's upper body push workout: 3 exercises per round, 45sec work periods, done three times, with 5 complete circuits) should I just be pausing the video to add in more resting time? Normally she gives between 10-20 seconds between sets and then about 30-60sec between circuits. This is even done during her strength workout videos. Trying to get back into training after a break that has been far too long once again, so here I am consuming fitness content again. ;)
    I like your take on deloading. As always, your emphasis on listening to your body instead of strictly adhering to something someone else told you is refreshing, considering the overall attitude within the industry. After all, you'll know best when something feels off or you need more rest.
    Should have gone with deloading/ minimal volume instead of this long break. As is always the case. My motivation is much too swingy.
    "It's quite glute-dominant here, interesting." Is it interesting, though? Is it really at all surprising? :D
    The amount/ number of exercises in the programme make it look like they just found a lot of exercises online which they really liked and decided to use absolutely all of them instead of thinking about how to streamline and optimise the workouts.
    I know you were hesitant when it came to going on about the splits, frequency etc. Maybe it'd be a good idea for a future video? Just going into more detail or even just rambling about this and that. I'm sure most of us would enjoy that.
