I think the reason Wojtek didn't kill anyone was just because he never felt threatened by the soldiers and he never had been taught by another bear which should be his killed mother to act like a bear. The reason he could fought with another bear was due to his animal's natural instict of self defense if being attacked similar to a cat who's drowning in a lake and suddenly became an excellent swimmer although he never swam before. It's nurture vs nature
You can get him as a general in Hearts of Iron 4. He doesn't start with much skill, but has a unique trait 'Bearer of Artillery' which gives +15% to your artillery units.
@16:36 "He did after all have a habit of swallowing cigarettes. Ah that bear sure loved his cigarettes." LOL why did that part have me laughing so hard?! I love Sarah and Shane nodding to each other agreeing that they will get a bear for their apartment to keep Ryan out 😂
Their minor interactions are one of the best parts of Ruining History.
Look at my pretty bear
He was actually private Wojtek when he arrived in Italy and promoted to corporal following the battle of Monte Cassino
So the bear had a higher rank than the privates. Meaning they had to treat him with respect and follow it's orders
@@Cactusjhon He's a bear, when faced with a bear no matter the rank your are outranked
@@Cactusjhon actually In the U.S army atleast corporal is not a NCO rank, if i remember correctly its either a E3 or E4
@@Uniformtree000 When faced with a bear, do as it says. Wether it's in the military or out ranks you doesn't matter. You do as it says lol
@@snakevenom4954 when in the military you also are armed, or have a buddy to throw at the bear and run

Jeez...
i love how ryan's like "the only valid bear is paddington"
Wojtek: Allow me to introduce myself
Nah wojtek is the only valid bead
From Peru😊
Every day I learn a new weird thing about WW2
Do you know about the Jack Churchill, a member of the British army who fought with a longbow, bagpipes, and Scottish broadsword and SURVIVED.
The King of the Virgins I didn't! Thanks for telling me, I will look him up 😌
deadlyNightshade789 same
deadlyNightshade789 most of facts about ww2 are horrible, not weird, so I fon't know where you are learning those
deadlyNightshade789 look up. Operation five cherry blossoms at night.
Imagine wojtek and Michael chatting it up in heaven eating some cigs and remembering that one time wojtek kicked Michael's butt.
:')
Fun fact my grandfather was in the navy on a submarine and on that submarine they kept a cayman(crocodile relative) and he lived way past a normal caymans lufe expectancy
How long did it live
is there anymore info, like its name or an article online about it?
I must know MORE! about this! please?
Good for ur grandad and his croc fam
Kayman. Not Cayman.
The Zookeepers watching the polish soldiers jump into a bear cage: 👁👄👁
The other zookeepers : £5 he getting scratched
My grandma (who's polish) told me about this bear. He's so cute
Shouldn't it be pronounced wojtech? Cause thats how we pronounce it where I'm from which is like super close to Poland so
Zita Mahoney i was just asking cause the languages are pretty dam simular.
Same! ♡
greetings from Poland :D
Ryan, just appreciate the cute lil bear for what he is
he's not wrong. ppl get killed for being so naive so maybe appreciate the warnings he gives ffs

Wojtek, my boi! My late great-grandfather actually met him.
i have no idea why or how this comment goes very well with the eula profile pic
I live in Edinburgh and we have a statue of Wojtek! He's a Pokestop now
Rissa Wilson do people leave offerings of lit cigarettes for the statue?
TheLastHylianTitan I bet they do
TheLastHylianTitan Honestly, I couldn't tell you. They leave flowers, but since it's in a public park there's a distinct possibility that any cigarettes there would be indistinguishable from litter and wold be picked up. There are tons of flowers though.
Rissa Wilson, was he happy in the zoo? I know that's a weird question, it's just that he had so many friends and was so happy with them but then was put in a cage and I just hope he wasn't too miserable):
Rissa Wilson so proud 🐻
My grandpa fought with this bear! So happy to see my culture and my families stories in a buzzfeed video ❤😭
KarolinaCross my great Dzadzo was is the same regiment as well. And I agree that it’s great for the culture to be spread and hopefully now more people will know about Wojtek

Darius Bling ?
Darius Bling what do you mean by that?

“Bears are the most deadly animal on earth,”
Hippos: “Are we a joke to you?!”
yeah really lol, oh Ryan...
i think polar bears deserve a mention just because normally, carnivores have some reluctance towards attacking humans (or prey in general) because they know they risk injury by approaching us. a polar bear will just come and GET you
@@funnyfroggiealert1816 If you are ever attacked by a polar bear, know that it was pre-meditated. It know where you were 2 miles away and has been looking for you for long enough to have closed that distance. It wanted you dead long before you even knew you were being followed
@@XMorbidReignX i know mate i have coworkers who spend seasons in the arctic and the bears are straight up just observing them for days on end before approaching the camp. they used to shoot flare guns at them to scare them off, but it barely works anymore because the bears just aren't scared off by it. it's a real problem!
This story didn’t ruin history. It just made it better
yea true, but thats their "title" for this series... usually ruining them but not all
i showed my dad this video and he just told me my polish grandpa (who was in the war obviously) used to tell stores about taking care of this bear!!!! OMG
hannu now im super interested in his story, do u have any to share?
That is amazing!!!
now I really wish my great grandpa was still with us, all I know about him is that he was a POW for some time as part of the Polish army obviously
pics or it never happened
I don't think much can get more Polish than this
This story is Poland in a nutshell.
Humor, Heroism, drinking and still somehow failing to keep their country unoccupied during the war.
I love my country.
Not really somehow... Image anyone else in our geographical and political situation, between Germans, that also attacked from north and soutch (Czehoslovakia) and east with Soviet Russia, while having almost little to none narutal barriers :P We did very well, considering theese facts.
@@alekjanowski9847 I just hate when someone think Czechosłowakia atacked us together with Germany and USSR.
They were already anexed- Slovakia was German puppet, and that country atacked us together with Germany in 1939, not Czechoslovakia.
@@starhalanonim2859 I meant teritory, but I see your point my mistake! :P
@@alekjanowski9847 Ok, no problem.
Around one month ago someone told me, that Czechoslovakia atacked us together with Germany- since then I make sure to correct these who think so.
This truly makes me proud to be of polish descent
"Wojtek" WAS his first name though. It's the diminutive form of "Wojciech", which is a very common first name in Poland.
"THAT BEING SAID" *Ryan-ing intensifies*
Coyote the Pangolin is it bad that I read that in Ryan's voice? 😂

Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots Review wojtek died of age
Apocalyptic Maniac Ohk, they didnt say anything in their comment about how Wojtek died....
There's a real footage of bear actually wrestling. What you must understand, that Wojtek found his family, and thought was one of them - a human!
He also caught a German spy, no joke.
He chicc he protec but he also love dem cigarette

It is not covered in this show, how painful for all of them, for soldiers and for Woytek itself, was leaving him in the ZOO. In the book about Woytek, it is the most tragic chapter, squeezing tears from every reader's eyes.

I wonder what the enemy were like when they saw the bear.
“Is that a bear?”
