About Jet being in a pre war vault, Myron didn’t invent jet, he just found a way to make it from Brahmin dung. Jet IS a prewar drug. You can. Call him out on this in fallout 2
@@UncleAnaesthesia Likely the post-war jet people know, and pre-war jet is likely made of the same chemicals as post-war jet. Likely that people just named it jet since it has the same effects.
Even Fallout 2 kinda makes this seem to be knowing one person says she's been addicted for an amount of time thats longer than Myron has even been alive
If you have a high intelligence character in fallout 2 you can accuse Myron of exactly that, of course he denies it but he’s full of shit. I always assumed it must be true so the mention of jet being around before him never bothered me.
As someone who is trained in psychopharmacology, I can give my informed opinions as to what real-life drugs the _Fallout_ chems are, or might be, based on. 3:15 - Calmex is most likely based on alprazolam, which is a benzodiazepine that is prescribed for severe anxiety disorders, such as agoraphobia, panic disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. 4:15 - Daddy-O might be based on racemic amphetamine, specifically Benzedrine. Benzedrine was popular amongst beatniks during the 1950s. The racemic amphetamine was obtained from Benzedrine inhalers, which were intended to be used as a nasal decongestant. Beatniks would often wander around downtown streets in the middle of the night in a haze colloquially known as "Benzedrine indifference". 5:23 - Jet is referred to in-game as a "meta-amphetamine". In real-life, there are no such things as "meta-amphetamines", but when considering Jet's effects, we can reasonably conclude that pre-War Jet is methamphetamine. Post-War formulations invented by Myron come from brahmin dung, so perhaps brahmin dung has psychostimulant effects. Other variations, such as Ultrajet and Jet Fuel, are probably chemical analogues of regular Jet. 8:34 - Day Tripper could be based on any number of real-world psychedelic hallucinogens. I believe you are right with your opinion of it being psilocybin. 9:38 - Hydra's main ingredient comes from an unknown species of cave fungus, which may have some sort of naturally-occurring or radiation-induced anesthetic properties. Its effects remind me of ketamine. 11:09 - Med-X is canonically morphine. Morphine is an opioid derived from opium poppies, which are known for their analgesic and sedative properties when used clinically and their euphoriant, soporific, and anxiolytic properties when used recreationally. 12:16 - Steady is a tough one to speculate about. You suggested that it could be some sort of muscle relaxant (perhaps cyclobenzaprine), but its effects-drastically reduced gun sway and higher odds of hitting one's target when aiming-are more in line with ergogenics, which are performance-enhancing drugs sometimes used in sports. Alternatively, it could be an antispasmodic, which reduces muscle spasms and tremors, leading to less weapon sway. 13:22 - Rebound has a similar effect as Jet, so it is probably an analogue of methamphetamine. 14:23 - Mentats are either methylphenidate (Ritalin) or racemic amphetamine (Adderall), both of which improve cognitive performance and increase concentration. It could also simply be caffeine, which is a wakefulness-promoting agent and an analeptic. However, because the pre-War principal mentioned in the video felt that he needed to conceal the administration of the chem to school students, it is more than likely based on a scheduled substance, such as the aforesaid stimulants. 17:17 - Turbo's janky appearance and psychoactive effects lead me to think that it is based on some sort of cannabimimetic or synthetic cannabinoid, such as Spice or K2. 18:25 - Psycho most definitely fits the profile of a synthetic cathinone, seeing as how it simultaneously causes rage and analgesia. You say it is stated in one of the games as being an amphetamine, but I'm not aware of this ever being stated or implied by any of the games. 20:36 - Voodoo might be influenced by N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT). DMT is a naturally-occurring hallucinogen in many animals' brains, including humans. Perhaps Voodoo is siphoned from animals' brains, which correlates with the in-game descriptive text. 21:43 - X-cell's futuristic appearance, amazing psychotropic effects, and research history make me think of some kind of nonexistent "super-drug". (The U.S. government has experimented with "super-drugs" for soldiers and pilots in real-life.) It is likely artificial or synthetic. Your explanation of epigenetics is a reasonable answer.
This is a little thing, but considering Turbo's appearance of being a spray can with Jet attached, and the use of turpentine to make it, I think it's more likely that Turbo is just a really nasty cross between amphetamine and a toxic aerosol like air duster. Air duster causes such severe brain cell death and intoxication when huffed that I think the slowed time effect makes sense.
This I found interesting.. When used, colors become more saturated and lights become slightly brighter. This visual effect, combined with the inhaler intake and slow-motion perception, makes the Fallout 4 depiction of Jet similar to the drug Slo-Mo from the 2012 film, Dredd.
The day tripper could've been like valium. That was a yellow pill and super common in the 50s n 60s and docs prescribed them alot. They made you zoned out n happy.
Absolutely, yeah. "Daytripper" is likely a sideways allusion to another '60s pop rock tune, "Mother's Little Helper", about the perceived heavy prescription of this class of drug to housewives in the mid-20th century.
22:01 I like your speculation on what it could be (combination of chemicals, epigenetic drug, etc.) but the blue ridges and brushed metal cylinders reminds me of the alien biogel/epoxy/power cells from Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta. The fact that they were in the "prototype" stage, as well as the fact that we know so little about them, could definitely hint at an alien origin, or at least an alien design/inspiration. It would not be the first time that the government was "inspired" by appropriated alien technology ("Alien technology was the basis of many of the Enclave’s more exotic and impressive weaponry and robotics," from Fallout 3's official game guide).
Oooh I like this quite a bit actually. Being a prototype would make sense too. The Government basing tech off of alien technology has a precedent with the mesmotron.

Hey! It's probably been pointed out already, but psycho doesn't affect damage resistance, at least not in fnv or fo3, instead It's a 25% boost to damage output.
7:26 methadone doesn’t treat methamphetamine addiction. It’s used to reduce/prevent withdrawal for opioid addiction. The two sound similar, but they aren’t connected.

People from different regions call it differently.

I mean even if the Jets are the same, there's no reason to think people weren't abusing meth pre-war (maybe it had a different name and probably had different ingredients) and then the little shit in FO2 realized the same thing pre-war people did(meth=addictive and inhaling is a good delivery method) and made a post-war version using different ingredients to create a similar effect. If this is the case it makes sense for a character only familiar with the post-war version to see the pre-war one and call it by its post-war name. I also want to say anyone getting mad about Bethesda retconning needs to look into the history of the games. Black Isle retconned in-game several times and on daily basis on their old forum. I mean 2 barely got released before they started reconning the "Vault-Tec was controlled by the Enclave and therefore they were responsible for the vaults" thing in a forum post (yet I see people getting angry and blaming Bethesda for that all the time). And then there's the whole cat thing, where cats are mentioned as very much being a thing in FO2, yet FNV(which was made by a lot of old Black Isles guys) claims they've been extinct since before 2(and once again its Bethesda who get blamed for retcon when all they did was undo a retcon). This is just to name a few, don't get me wrong Bethesda has retconned, but people acting like Black Isle was some sort of infallible game company with a solid never changing, never retconmed lore is laughable. Black Isles were the kings of video game retcons in a way Bethesda couldn't even dream of.
I really like your take on the Jet controversy. Another one I like is the potential that Jet wasn't as popular on the west coast pre war until Miron found some post war and reverse engineered it. Then he could have taken credit for its invention entirely.
Erm, a quick note that I don't *think* I saw anyone mention with a quick scroll down the comments. You said that Psycho ONLY increases Damage Resistance in FO3 and NV. It doesn't. It increases *Damage* but not Resistance. The Damage Resistance was brought back in FO4 and FO76, alongside varying levels of the Damage Increase introduced in 3. Seemed like a pretty glaring issue there.
Kind of related story, maybe: I got addicted to literally everything in Fallout New Vegas and got annoyed at the debuffs of withdrawal (i actually had a concussion but i didnt know that was a thing in fallout, so i misunderstood and thought it was withdrawal effects and only found out you can get concussions because i checked my status.) so i went to the doctor in the starting town (forgot the names ;-;) and got cured of my addictions. I dumped all alcohol and drugs from my inventory on his front lawn and started staying clean from drinking or doing drugs in Fallout New Vegas. In fallout 4 I didnt do this because i dont find drugs as often and the affects arent as bad (or dont seem as bad to me.)
6:05 I would think that it only slows down time from the players perspective. I'm imagining the real effect is to speed the player up which would make sense for its role in fallout 2 as in fallout 2 you used action points to move or shoot during combat meaning if you used jet and got more action points you would theoretically be moving/shooting quicker. This would also replicate the side effects that I've heard meth has. If my theory is correct I think it disproves your point at 8:24. I think the main issue is that Bethesda changed the role of action points without changing the effects of jet meaning jet should theoretically continue speeding the player up as it does in 2 and 4 but in 3 and new Vegas it simply doesn't because of the changes in roles.
Maybe Lorenzo Cabot's mysterious serum deserves its own speculation video. I can't see much point in explaining it using chemistry anyway. I guess it looks identical to FEV so that might be related? The aliens also make a ton of weird serums with random effects, then there's the girl on the spaceship who hasn't aged since she came into contact with their technology, a lot like Lorenzo with his hat. Maybe the aliens have something that stops kind of biological change like aging, keeping you identical to whoever you were when it first scanned you. Maybe FEV is the reason for all their recent activity. It's already the reason for practically everything else in Fallout so why not? Maybe the aliens played a part in FEV's creation. I think I remember US reverse-engineering alien technology to make something else as well. I also think Lorenzo's hat was planted by aliens to see if it would create an all-powerful god king and mess up human society. Maybe the aliens are just so generically written that they can be used to explain anything that us supposed to be beyond human understanding. Fuck 'em.
The definition of daytripper is someone who takes a trip that doesn’t last all night. Shrooms can last up to 6 hours true. Maybe more depending on dosage. LSD can last up to 8 hours which happens to be the amount of time a day is. So that would explain Daytripper. The Beatles made the song “Daytripper” which was created referring to LSD. Which was made in the late 60’s which would explain the 60’s Hippie flowers on the bottle. LSD was very popular in the 60’s. So I would say Daytripper most closely relates to LSD.
The amount of science going on in the Fallout universe makes me think Daytripper is a synthetic version of psilocybin, similar to 4-ACCO-DMT or a similar compound.

MENTATS is also a clear refrence to the term Mentat, meaning a person within the fictional universe of Dune with superhuman mental abilities. The Dune-universe also makes this ability drug-based, however the drug, or "spice" in the novels is far more useful, as it also extends life, and can be used to make a gas that alows space travel.

I think, there's little reason in looking into "expiration" of chems. You see, chems are WIDELY used and are known to be easily reproduceable, so there is a strong possibility that the packages (bottles, syringes, injectors and inhalers) are things that were reused dozens if not hundreds of times. Contents are new - packages are old.

Well it is arguable though. I heard a theory that US military invented a recipe for the Jet before the war as is mentioned on the loading screen of Fallout 4 ( on point from my side, I doubt that US military didn't invent it, if a 17-year chemist could do it how come not the team of military scientists). However, the recipe was lost, and since it was not abundant yet we don't find any Jet in Fallout 1. Later to Fallout 2, it is argued that Myron did not invent the Jet but merely found the recipe and Re-invented it. And later it just spread across Wastelands, that's why we find it in every game after Fallout 2.
@@colemanwalsh7477 Again that doesn't explain the F4's explanation for the drug. Maybe it is part of the "Bethesda writing" series. Day tripper is "Molly" while "smooch" is probably Ecstacy. The difference between "Molly" and "Ecstasy" is that "X" is a cocktail of substances, the main being MDMA while "Molly" is the MDMA in its pure form. So the Day Tripper capsules have "Molly" inside while "Smooch" is the cocktail that comes in goo form which could be compared to "Ecstasy."

The US military definitely still uses amphetamines. Pilots can only fly for so long normally before their faculties drop to dangerous levels for a pilot. So for long range flights such as those done by strategic bombers. Either way, I don't think it's done often for obvious reasons.
On the topic of Rebound - there could possibly be a tube connected to the needle thats been hidden in the flask, and the intent could be that using it is more like an IV drip. The smaller bottles hold the chem, the main flask holds saline or water, and you could stick yourself somewhere and tape the needle down while everything takes effect. It’s still all around a terrible sounding experience, of course - but it’s better than an entire hip flask jutting from your anatomy
Psycho and Buffout were my best friends in Fallout 3 since i often would use Unarmed or Melee builds. Beating a Deathclaw to death with your fists was so satisfying.
Cateye is also a non addictive chem but the effects aren't worth much since we can just turn up the brightness in the settings. I've always been interested in learning chemical structures and chemistry. Also i'm a new subscriber.

Enjoyed the video, loved that I got to learn more about the drug lore extensively. Good work Raddykingboi
@@Rad_King I would also really like to know what the mic is.
Jet doesn't exist in the current version of fallout 76. I believe its in the game files but never implemented. Probably because slowing time down in a multiplayer game is not possible. Also with things like canned coffee existing giving an AP boost so it's unnecessary.
FO76 takes place well before fallout 2, when Jet was invented.
@@jjverona8249 jet shows up in prewar areas like vaults. Jet is prewar but the recipe was lost to time till Myron reinvented the drug.
Basically Bethesda retconed its history.
Payday 2 has a client side slow down mechanic when you go down and doesn't really affect multiplayer gameplay that bad
@@tallcollin27 I didn't know that. I've only played that game once or twice.

About Jet being in a pre war vault, Myron didn’t invent jet, he just found a way to make it from Brahmin dung. Jet IS a prewar drug. You can. Call him out on this in fallout 2
Explains why myron's jet has a far worse addiction than the pre war version, since the ingredients are slightly different.
I don't know why people trust the word of that little shit anyways
@@AWESOME2715 even some woman in f2 says he was smoking that before that lil shit was ever born
Even in Bethesda's Fallout 4, it requires raw fertilizer to create Jet.

As a walking Chem dump in all the fallouts I play, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work RadKing!
You know what they say. If you ain’t tweakin, you ain’t tryin.
I always assumed that Myron simply found a pre war recipe for Jet, possibly modified it and simply lied about coming up with the original recipe
Veeeery likely.
That sounds like something that piece of shit would do lol
i cant believe people think anything out of that little shit is true
Fascinating!
Thanks for reminding me I have Benzedrine, it’s great for when I have a sinus headache.
Cal-mex could also be a barbiturate considering the prewar timeline, but you could equally be right being Librium was developed in the mid 50s.
Would be great if turbo was cannabinoids to naturally get high and relax lol
Great improvement, keep it up. Found this channel a few months ago and I'm loving it
That’s great to hear. I have lots of plans for the future :)

@@Rad_King I always look forward to the next vid!!
This I found interesting.. When used, colors become more saturated and lights become slightly brighter. This visual effect, combined with the inhaler intake and slow-motion perception, makes the Fallout 4 depiction of Jet similar to the drug Slo-Mo from the 2012 film, Dredd.
They're so similar I use the names interchangeably.
The day tripper could've been like valium. That was a yellow pill and super common in the 50s n 60s and docs prescribed them alot. They made you zoned out n happy.
Valium is still widely prescribed you might be thinking of barbiturates which benzodiazepines like valium replaced

Psycho doesn't increase damage resistance in NV. Its 25% damage increase.

I would definitely consider that. There are many people that are better at making cool builds than I am, but if that’s something you would like then I’ll think about it!
8:00 My guess is that people call the same drug in different regions. (Kinda like "elevator" in US, "lift" in UK. Or people in one region call it "soda" other region call it "pop") Since Turbo from Fallout New Vegas and Jet from Fallout 4 have the same effect of slowing down time, I guess that they are the same drug. People from different regions call it differently.

Unusable weapons of fallout at some point?
Edit: such as prop, stationary, or destroyed weapons or others that are in game files but hidden
That’s one I’ve never thought of. I wonder what I could find...
@@Rad_King. New Vegas would probably be gold mines for that kind of stuff. Both games were rushed to all hell.
Psycho and Daytripper are my 2 favorite chems in fallout
I imagine the Rad-Away being strapped to the body somewhere like the upper arm or tucked away inside a jacket, with the needle inserted close by.
Kind of related story, maybe: I got addicted to literally everything in Fallout New Vegas and got annoyed at the debuffs of withdrawal (i actually had a concussion but i didnt know that was a thing in fallout, so i misunderstood and thought it was withdrawal effects and only found out you can get concussions because i checked my status.)
so i went to the doctor in the starting town (forgot the names ;-;) and got cured of my addictions.
So glad this man is back to uploading
It’s good to be regular again. And making videos.
Damn, you sound great, with the new mic

I'm so glad you brought up the venom vs poison point, because i was getting heated lmao. Also, steady sounds like Herion to me.
Fuck 'em.
Great post I have never thought of linking aliens and FEV. I’m going to give this some thought...
Your videos keep me entertained at work, looking forward to the next video! Great job!
Glad I can help you get through the workday!
The amount of science going on in the Fallout universe makes me think Daytripper is a synthetic version of psilocybin, similar to 4-ACCO-DMT or a similar compound.

@@Rad_King the concept of huffing cow fumes to get high is mentioned in 76 a lot, explaining jet like stuff. Myron in 2 just found a more direct way to make the stuff on the cheap, explaining why his version is worse than standard. You can even call him out on not inventing jet in 2!

Psycho doesn’t increase damage resistance it increases damage output. Slasher increases both.
In the classic Fallout games, it increases damage resistance and agility, while lowering intelligence. It was changed in the Bethesda era.
Love this video, especially the part about Jet being meth. It's perfectly reasonable for meth to be in the drug vault!
Nice new mic, keep up the good work

Mentats are a reference to Dune. Mentats were people trained as human computers that took something called sapho juice to increase mental powers.

FYI.
Jet actually doesn't exist in Fallout 76. It was never created when the events of 76 happened.
Great video though! New subscriber! 🙂
True it was created years after the bombs feel. Which is Canon also explained in fallout 2 jet is literally made from chemicals in a Brahman fart
@@colemanwalsh7477 Again that doesn't explain the F4's explanation for the drug. Maybe it is part of the "Bethesda writing" series. However, I don't understand why Bethesda created a new story for the jet when you can simply say that it was widespread across the wastes in 23rd century. Maybe they wanted to modify the lore, who knows?

I'm fairly certain psycho increases damage output by 25% and not damage resistance.
After replaying NV, Med-X increases either DT or DR by 25 and Psycho increases damage by 25%.
It does both. Damage output goes up by 25% and damage resistance goes up by 25
Amphetamines were pretty popular with beatnik types, and users often report feeling sharper and more clear headed while using. This is of course debatable. They can also be very irritating.
Random talk here, but a thought: I've always assumed Mentats were a form of anti depressants. Similar to how Steady as you put it "Calms the jitters", rather than cognitive enhancement. You're not *opening your mind!* you're just thinking more clearly, doubting yourself less.
Again, just random talk.
Antidepressants wouldn’t cause addiction. If anything other variants of mentats could be considered closer to ecstasy than antidepressants
@@EDHann Honestly didn't know that. Fair doos then. 👌

I absolutely love chems in Fallout 4. Overdrive with Better Criticals, Crit based weapon builds, and automatic weapons just shreds through enemies, and with Chemist, they'll outlast pretty much every engagement you charge into.
The US military definitely still uses amphetamines. Pilots can only fly for so long normally before their faculties drop to dangerous levels for a pilot. So for long range flights such as those done by strategic bombers. Either way, I don't think it's done often for obvious reasons.
I originally clicked off because of the mic being so grating, then got recommended this again, and I'm glad I stuck it out. Great video!
