    Hey Misty. I really enjoyed the lesson with you. The two metode I will try to use in stitching. The loop metode is maybe not so difficult, but the pinstitch I have to praktice. Oh I would like to have more stitch with me videos :-)
    Here in Denmark wee dont have halloween in your traditions for fall. But were I live, which is on the countryside we every fall make a big feast - together wich all the others in your very small village - where we eat together, drink mostly beer and aquavit - snaps - and musik is playing and people dance. That is a very old tradition - it is a feast for the harvest from the fields. But because of the covid 19 this is cancelled, because we are 150 people, and it is only allowed to be max 50 people together, and is also many when you have to stay safe and keep distance. But there will always come a new fall - a new harvest - and a reason to be together.
    Just now I am stitching on the your Snow many friends, I am more a christmas stitcher as a halloween stitcher .
    happy stitching and stay safe

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому

      That tradition sounds wonderful, Kirsten! I know it is disappointing this year to have so many celebrations cancelled. I am glad we are finding small ways to still honor those traditions for now until we can all come together again.
      Happy stitching!

    Love your designs and I too am also a major pie lover! Pumpkin, Apple are my favorites. Every year we go to a family farm in a small town on the NC coast. It's off the grid, generator run. Always a puzzle, lots of hiking around the farm. Baskets in hand we take a long walk over to the pecan trees and collect a bounty. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I do my pin stitch a little different, but will try this method also. Take care....

    I really enjoyed stitching with you tonight! I’m working on Without A Mouse by Blackbird. I love baking apple pies in the fall also. I don’t use orange zest but that sounds interesting. It’s very crisp here in WA and the leaves are changing also. This time of year I love taking my little girl to the pumpkin patch and the Fall Harvest Festival at our church. Thanks for keeping me company. I am looking forward to stitching your Red Bird Sampler very soon and have continued to keep your family in my prayers. I was so sad to hear that your nephew lost his battle to cancer. I hope his wife and children are doing as well as they can given the circumstances. Sending hugs!

    We usually go to great Thanksgiving parade the Saturday before and people stay in Plymouth and celebrate all week. There are different events. All the restaurants are packed as are the hotels. It is also our 400th anniversary. My heart goes out to all of the restaurants,vendors etc. due to everything being closed. I would love to see more of these type of videos. I love to learn new and better ways to improve my stitching. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for this tutorial Misty - I’ve referenced the pin stitch portion every time I need to make this particular stitch. It’s starting to stick in memory but takes a little while as I don’t do pin stitches frequently enough. You’ve made the process clear and I admire and appreciate that you got up close and showed the process without your hands in the way. 🥰

    Hi Misty. Thanks for the demo on the pin stitch. I have always been confused about it but your demo was great. I love Fall. This morning, we had snow on the ground for the first time this year. Our leaves are pretty much beyond peak here in Northern Michigan. Earlier in the week though, they were beautiful. I am not sure what our Thanksgiving will be like this year with COVID. Usually our kids and grandkids are always here to celebrate. Apple pies and pumpkin bars are our favorites for Fall. Sounds like you and your Mom had a great weekend together. How fun! Take care and have fun.

    Hi Misty
    I really enjoyed your video. It was really well done. I’m still a one handed stitcher and use a qsnap. I will definitely start using the loop and horizontal start stitch. I’ve been stitching for about 45 years although quit about 3 years ago when the Village Stitchery and Lisa changed focus. I found Cynthia and bought a Bernina at Hoover’s about the same time and started quilting and then found Sue Spargo who I’m totally addicted to. Since I found floss tube about a month ago I’ve incorporated cross stitch back into my zen time life.
    Fall is my favorite time of year. My husband is the house decorator and cook. He loves Fall and Thanksgiving so decorating starts first week of Sept. This year Thanksgiving will be very different. We normally have Rob’s family and our son. Paddy is normally singing at a church in NYC in the morning and takes a train down late in the day. This year there is a DIL and granddaughter and his church is in limbo for singers. We need to make decisions about what we’ll do based on COVID the week of Thanksgiving for all involved.
    Thanks so much for your eclectic inspiration! I’m working to become a more organized and neater crossstitcher and will try all of your methods and incorporate likely almost all of them.🤗

    Misty thanks for your excellent tutorial, I think I finally got it!. My first crossstich in over 30 years was you October, my stitching is not perfect but your design was beautiful. I finished it 'American' style my friends + family love it. Living in Ireland we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, we did when we came to live here in the early '80's. Hubby is from Sunbury PA, so I'm familiar with some of your autumnal landscape, ours is fairly similar. We like pecan pie and sweet potato pie from our time in N. C.

    I don’t remember who the UA-camr was, but she did a pin start also, but using the corner holes of the “x”, so the pin stitch is the first diagonal of the “x.” The top diagonal of the stitch covers the center, so you can’t tell the bottom leg is broken in half. It eliminates the bump of a horizontal pin stitch start, and saves a stitch, too. To end with it, you stitch the top diagonal first, then sneak the pin stitch underneath.

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому

      That is interesting, Sandy! I have tried doing the diagonal pin stitch, but at some point, it seemed like the bump was more noticeable than my horizontal one, so I went back to horizontal. Perhaps I should look at more videos on vertical to see if I can improve my technique. :)

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому

      Somtimes mine twist more and sometimes they twist less. I don't always understand why that is (except sometimes it seems to be the floss itself). When stitching on linen...just to the left of where you are stitching in green...is a natural 'slub' in the fabric...if the pattern requires stitching there...how is that done when there are no visible holes to place the needle?

    • @slim1one
      @slim1one 4 роки тому

      Hi there, you would stitch there as normal, just pretend the hole is there and raise your needle through the back of the fabric through the slub where the hole should be, make your X as usual and it will look like a normal X.

      @@MistyPursel Apologies, I didn't mean to take over. It was a good question and often I hear people say they won't stitch on linen because of these slubs, which is completely unnecessary if you know how to work with them. I saw the question and wasn't sure if you would answer (not all youtubers answer all questions) so I thought I would in case you didn't :)

    Thanks for sharing! Do you use the loop method when using Fancy Floss or just using DMC floss? It’s always nice to see how others stitch. Your stitches are beautiful!!

      I usually use the loop method for DMC, but sometimes I do use it with over-dyed flosses if the floss color has very strong variegation. For example, I just used Cupid from Classic Colorworks in a new design and it has a bright shade of red variegated with a dark shade of red. To blend it a bit more but still get some of that hand-dyed look, I used the loop method and it worked great.

    Hello! Do you end with a pin stitch as well, or do you weave your end under?

    • @beckyacosta3241

      I was wondering how you end your stitching too!😊

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому +1

      You know, I usually don't, but your question made me realize that I could on this project. If I am changing colors a lot, I tend not to because I can't cover the pin stitch at the end with the same color floss, but if I am stitching a large area with one color, then I can. I often just tuck my threads on the back.

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому +1

      @@beckyacosta3241 My tendency is to just tuck thread in on the back, but in an area where I could stitch over it with the same color, I could definitely do that. I don't tend to like ending with the pin stitch with two strands of floss when there is a floss color change.

    I do a loop start method but I do it from the back of my fabric and then I don’t have to go back down again like you do when you start with the loop on the top of the fabric.

    I love Rear Window! I'm guessing that the pin stitch cannot be done on aida?

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому +1

      You'd have to split the Aida fabric to do the pin stitch. I haven't tried it, so I don't now how hard that would be. If you try it, let me know how it goes!

    What floss and what linen are you using? You make it long so easy.

    • @MistyPursel
      @MistyPursel  4 роки тому

      I was using DMC and Classic Colorworks. I also frequently use Weeks Dye Works floss. The linen was 32 count Snow Day (one that I dye) and it is dyed on Zweigart linen).

    Very informative video and tutorial on those 2 stitching methods, thank you for sharing! You must be a good professor as you have a very calm, clear way of explaining information. I retired from teaching 2 years ago and always felt I missed fall as the first 6 weeks of every school year was so intensely busy. By mid October, I would start to enjoy it all, and then before I knew it, I would wake up and the leaves were gone and snow was in the forecast. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving break and take some time for yourself! (kmah20 on Instagram)
