It's one of the most underrated love songs ever. He's pouring his heart out to her, telling her she saved him from doubt, darkness and despair; really powerful stuff.
Listen to some of his other stuff to truly appreciate the pure quality.....Dont Speak Of My Heart, Easy Too Talk, Whatevers Written In Your Heart, Welcome to Hollywood, Light of Love......to name but a few..! Enjoy..!
One of the best love songs ever written. Honest and to the point. Our lives ebb and flow and change over the years, but this person has been the constant in his life. I love the sentiment. Great track!
Gerry was a complicated and very talented musician. He had a drinking problem that eventually took his life at an early age. He wrote this song for his estranged wife who always had his back thru everything.
Every man - EVERY man wants a wife who will be on his side come hell or high water. It really hurts when his woman takes a side against a man when there is a real problem. This song expresses a mans perspective on how much he loves his wife and why.
I know. Same here. I was so disappointed to hear her describe this song as a doctor's office song because it just absolutely is not. I just listened to the Baker Street reaction right before this, and she wasn't overtaken by it either. I personally believe both songs are brilliant. It's most disappointing because she is a singer herself and it feels to me like she should recognize.
Asia ask your Mother to listen to it and hear her reaction. I think its all about a difference in preference with each generation. I had this played at our wedding for my Wife back in the late 70's it has a special place in my heart. I felt it had been written for me.
It is a very chill song. To me that is what makes it so good. In a world full of noise. Everyone wanting to be heard this song gets heard with more intent. Keep up the great reactions . Really glad I found you guys.
This is such a sweet song. And it is consistent the entire time. It might not have the drama people may desire but that’s the point. The whole song delivers stability
From the first time I heard this song in the 70s, I thought the music was exceptionally beautiful and I still think that now. I have played the song for myself countless times.
The 1st time I heard this song, I had to stop wot I was doing. I had chills and yes, BJ wot u noticed at 3:08- yes, yes & yes- u have a good ear for music. I knew u were feeling the tune when u touched ur cap. Definitely a song that speaks to men well, I feel it gives men the permission to reveal their soul & vulnerability to the person they love. Brilliant song guys. Thank u.
Gerry was in a successful band called Stealers Wheel, they had a big hit with Stuck in the Middle With You. Another great song of Gerry's is Get it Right Next Time, also Take The Money and Run which was written by Steve Miller.
There are three different songs that I know of titled “Take the Money and Run”, one written and performed by Gerry Rafferty, another by Steve Miller, and a third by Graham Nash (on a Crosby-Nash album).
Woah! I never knew that. I was obsessed with stuck in the middle with you… just something about it. And separately became obsessed with right down the line. Must have put himself in both those songs because it hits the same feeling
That's one of those calming songs. Everything is blended perfectly together, from the instruments, the verses and the harmonies. Nothing overwhelms the other.
This is an amazingly good song off a very strong album and I am surprised you do not like it. His coming to appreciate his wife and expressing it is a huge deal. He unfortunately was haunted by alcohol which took his life way too soon. This song about realizing who is there for you is universal. Great song.
Thank you for doing this song. It really brings back memories for me. We were married for about 6 years - felt like a for real lifetime thing to me and when I heard this song come on the radio I would sing along - to my wife...went to a record store and bought the single so I could play it for her on special days like her birthday and on our anniversary. Alas we split at 13 years. But I still love that memory.
He was in the band called Stealers Wheel, they were pretty fantastic. Bakers Street is also a good one, if you have not heard it yet. This is the song that my partner, mate & lover would play for me. He is no longer here, so every time I hear this lovely, little tune, I think of him. Thanks for playing this.
Joe Egan, Gerry's partner in Steelers Wheel released a lovely song called Back on the Road in 1979. I bought it on a 45rpm single, still got it after all those years.
Gerry was singing about a support from a female friend if not his girlfriend or wife very important if you want a career in music or in life in general. I've been listening to this song for more than 40 years one of my all time favorites. When ever I want to listen to music this is in the list. Love to see the young ones learning about music history.
Ok I’m 40 years old and I love this song seriously. She’s not feeling it you can see it in her face and expressions but he is. The word play is serious as hell. That’s why I love this song. I first heard it on pandora and had to repeat. There is not music like this no more and seriously needed.
Always was one of those songs that would play on the radio in the car, when my parents were taking us somewhere. It's positive and soothing, and makes the world a better place, but not something I searched for to listen to up until a few years back. No that I'm going on 53, these songs are a must, but it wasn't ever really that way before.
When Gerry Rafferty was younger was in a band and lead of a band called Steely wheel and famous song call Stuck in the Middle of You, very more upbeat and some higher pitch vocals
Joe Egan, Gerry's partner in Steelers Wheel released a lovely song called Back on the Road in 1979. I bought it on a 45rpm single, and still have it after all those years.
It's funny. When I was younger and they played this song, it went right past me. But like so many others songs as I got older, they hit me different and I enjoy them a lot. It's like when you read a book at one age and you read the same book 10 years later, you get a different meaning, understanding, and catch things that you missed earlier. It's like you say, 'where did that chapter come from? I don't remember reading that before'.
100% my favorite Gerry Rafferty song. As much as I love Baker Street, this one's even better. Playing the bassline for this song was particularly satisfying for me too 😎
Aww man....good one guys, Asia the thing about rock whether its laid back or aggressive, certain songs will grow on you years later, I hated this song back in the day. You will wake up one day and this song will fit your mood perfect lol
When I was a teen, this was one of my favorite songs. I think they produce the song to emphasise the lyrics more than the music. Yeah, the music's okay but it's the lyrics that really stands out. If you've ever had a woman in your corner through thick and thin, as a men, you can definitely relate to this song. The follow-up songs to this should be Woman by John Lennon. And then, Here Comes My Girl by Tom Petty period and then Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts. And then Thank You by Led Zeppelin.
I was born in 1976 and this song makes me think of my parents on a Saturday with their friends, my aunts and uncles coming through…playing cards and funny smelling smoke coming through the house, bell bottoms, laughter, sweet tea, horse shoes, playing with my friends and cousins until dark - hearing this song coming through the house and a grill going in the backyard…also makes me think of Saturday mornings and my mama cleaning the house - can still smell the Pine Sol!
This song is literally about about a woman who he felt was perfectly the one who completed him but turned out to be a scandalous lie in the end as nothing but a dream, from her evil ways after making him open his eyes and realise with his heart broken in the end of ‘the one’ who wasn’t someone in his life after all. That’s why this is the perfect song to fill in for a girl who broke your heart. I always think of my ex when I listen to this bittersweet melody.
Rafferty was born into a working-class family in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His mother taught him both Irish and Scottish folk songs when he was a boy; later, he was influenced by the music of the Beatles and Bob Dylan. He joined the folk-pop group the Humblebums (of which Billy Connolly was a member) in 1969. Billy Connolly is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential stand-up comedians of all time, having topped many polls conducted in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately he is now suffering from Parkinson's disease. He's 78.
Hi Ya, Asia & BJ!! This song to me, is one of the most true romantically written songs, I've ever heard. And the cool thing was, even though he was talking about one lady in particular, he never mentioned the ladie's name... Almost unheard of in a love song. 👍😎👍
I can’t tell you why I’ve always loved this song. Just that I have. Something about it just rolls my soul.
It's one of the most underrated love songs ever. He's pouring his heart out to her, telling her she saved him from doubt, darkness and despair; really powerful stuff.
it's just so laid back and relaxed. just like sailing by christopher cross
Absolutely! Get images of a melancholic pathway and a glimpse of my heart just ahead…what a love song..unparalleled!
What a perfect and beautiful Way go describe it… I feel the same way
my son's loved this since he was four years old. he's 16 now and has amazing taste in music.
IMHO, not just a great song, but a tremendously underrated love song.
This is my favorite song since I was 17 and now I’m 26. Everything about is beautiful….the melody, Voice, lyrics
Rafferty was extremely recognizable on the radio in the 70's...!!! Good stuff!
This is a Song that Touches Your Bones and Soul!
Gerry was a complicated and very talented musician. He had a drinking problem that eventually took his life at an early age. He wrote this song for his estranged wife who always had his back thru everything.
Brings back so many memories of the 70s. Can we go back, please?? 😉
One way ticket for me please. :)
At least all the great music of the 70's is available to listen to!
going back to the 70s is not good for everyone
@@LarkVsOwl-de3op For me, it's just what the doctor ordered! 😄
Every man - EVERY man wants a wife who will be on his side come hell or high water. It really hurts when his woman takes a side against a man when there is a real problem. This song expresses a mans perspective on how much he loves his wife and why.
I've never heard this in a doctor's office but have heard on the radio a million times because it's a classic like Baker St. from the same album.
bakers street reminds me of the guys fighting on Good Will Hunting
I know. Same here. I was so disappointed to hear her describe this song as a doctor's office song because it just absolutely is not. If I heard this in my doctor's office, I would feel so good. This track is absolute gold.
One of the best written love songs ever.
One of the smoothest songs ever written, puts me in a whole different world when I hear it.
Asia ask your Mother to listen to it and hear her reaction. I think its all about a difference in preference with each generation. I had this played at our wedding for my Wife back in the late 70's it has a special place in my heart. I felt it had been written for me.
This song just makes you feel chill and puts a smile on your face. So classic to the core
RIP Gerry, gone way too soon.
It is a very chill song. To me that is what makes it so good. In a world full of noise. Everyone wanting to be heard this song gets heard with more intent.
Keep up the great reactions . Really glad I found you guys.
I remember this song & I have always loved it.
One of my very favorite songs. Rip to my dad who introduced me
This is such a sweet song. And it is consistent the entire time. It might not have the drama people may desire but that’s the point. The whole song delivers stability
From the first time I heard this song in the 70s, I thought the music was exceptionally beautiful and I still think that now. I have played the song for myself countless times.
HEY ! Don't hassle Gerry, for this one song ! This is one beautiful song. Period !!!
I was 7 or 8 when this song came out and it’s been a life-long favorite. I absolutely love the lyrics and the melody, I think it’s perfection.
The 1st time I heard this song, I had to stop wot I was doing. I had chills and yes, BJ wot u noticed at 3:08- yes, yes & yes- u have a good ear for music. 🤘🏻😎
Didn’t know that. Always thought he was just a solo artist.
Woah! I never knew that. I was obsessed with stuck in the middle with you… just something about it. And separately became obsessed with right down the line. Must have put himself in both those songs because it hits the same feeling
What person wouldn’t want this? Beautiful lyrics
That's one of those calming songs. Everything is blended perfectly together, from the instruments, the verses and the harmonies. Nothing overwhelms the other.
Perfection one of the greatest songs ever written

The great late Gerry Rafferty a musical genius. Such mellow tones and poingnant words You need to do Night Owl by Gerry
He was in the band called Stealers Wheel, they were pretty fantastic. Bakers Street is also a good one, if you have not heard it yet. This is the song that my partner, mate & lover would play for me. They responded to Baker Street four weeks ago.
Thank you for your kind words. He is in a better place, now. Appreciations.
It’s so calming and his voice makes it 100 times better! Soothing and calm
Oh gaud! Some songs just bring back the BEST memories ever and this is one!

What you have just listened too is one of the greats, pure talent!
At a doctors office😂
The Love doctor!!😍
Gorgeous song
This song is total moosh. It's beautiful.
I like the composition of this a lot because it's so calm and rock-steady that it suits the message of the song perfectly.
70’s yacht rock is and will always be the very best
Gerry was a troubled soul. This was a literal love song to the one person on his life he could have or should have relied on. RIP
Gerry was singing about a support from a female friend if not his girlfriend or wife very important if you want a career in music or in life in general. Love this song.
My gosh, what I wouldn't give to have had someone write such a song about me. This song brings me to tears at times.
Just a fantastic song.🙏👍🏴🏴
The Best Love Song, Ever!
One day, all of this great ‘70’s music will be forgotten…..And, so will I. Let it be, and God help what they listen to.

100% my favorite Gerry Rafferty song. As much as I love Baker Street, this one's even better.

Quality trumps genre. This is just beautiful.
Aww man....good one guys, Asia the thing about rock whether its laid back or aggressive, certain songs will grow on you years later, I hated this song back in the day. You will wake up one day and this song will fit your mood perfect lol
Such a feel good song 🖤
But so soothing and melodic.
Such a Great song!
Loved the whole album starting with Bakers street!
Yesssss! Love this one - however “Bakers Street” is my favorite-

R.I.P. Gerry
Like Elton, i could listen to this smooth sound singing all day. i always loved Rafferty's music
Yes! Love it! One of my and my husband's songs! Another one is Miracles-Jefferson Starship :) Keep On Rockin'
I have only one Jefferson Starship song in my collection, guess which it is? Yes Miracles is a lovely song, I've got it on a 45rpm single.
Greatest Love Song Ever!! This goes on when mood is needed! Sorry this is not elevator song, the words are deep, wavy soulful, BJ gets it!
one of those smooth, easy listening songs
They made me go back to my adolescence, full of wonderful memories.
My favourite Gerry Rafferty song is Night Owl, the whole album is good
Listen a few more times... bet it grows on ya...!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Go ahead BJ, look at your girl and sing along, hahaha. You guys are great
AWESOME SONG.
I used to listen to this song all the time. Haven't heard it in a long time.
If a guy dedicates this song to a girl... she had better take him SERIOUSLY.... because he is taking her SERIOUSLY!
City to City is an awesome track too.
Thanks for that guys, you appreciate talent.
Beautiful love song
Gerry = Jerry .... said the same way.
Love this track. One if my all time favs.
This guy was a genius and created this style of easy listening chill music.
This could be a road trip song. Underrated. If I heard this on the way to a baseball game as a kid I’d get fired up
Hi Ya, Asia & BJ!! This song to me, is one of the most true romantically written songs, I've ever heard. And the cool thing was, even though he was talking about one lady in particular, he never mentioned the ladie's name... Almost unheard of in a love song. 👍😎👍
Gerry is pronounced Jerry in his name.
I enjoy BJ recognizing and calling out these Bars.
I call this fern bar music. This music is subtle, but lots going on if you listen closely. Great for a chill evening out.
This is some serious EAR CANDY!
Gorgeous Review. Thx
