A-Plus with this song , The masterful balance, guitars, snare, synthesizer, bass line , vocal harmony, classic lyrics, makes for a forever song on any list !!!!
Gerry wrote this for his wife..because he went into a deep depression after he split with Stealers Wheel because the record company banned him from releasing music for 3 YEARS.. he got so into his drinking but still wrote wonderful songs and this is one of them from his first solo album he was able to release called City to City included in it was Baker Street too..his wife brought him out of his stupor and believed in him..encouraged him to keep writing and was a great support..unfortunately in the mid 80's his drinking got so bad they split up..he was traveling doing gigs and on his own was lonely and got lost in alcoholism..but he still kept writing and recording great music..please review more Gerry Rafferty..Get it Right next time..Matties Rag which he wrote about coming home to his daughter Martha after touring..they called her Mattie for short..Night Owl..days gone down..whatevers written in your heart..stealin time..The ark. The way that you do it and Take the money and run..every one is different..and of course Stuck in the Middle with you when he was with Stealers Wheel which is sn absolutely foot tapping banger..
Right Down the line is a song I can never turn off .I have to listen to it all the way through ,everytime. It is stuck in my brain. Very pleasing to my ears.
This is my favorite Gerry Rafferty song. There are a few songs that I never get tired of hearing and would never skip on my play list when it comes on, and this is one of those songs. Gerry has such a smooth, calming voice and I, too, love the sentiment of the lyrics of this song. Great pick!
My son James, who's 27 years old, told me the other day that he'd heard this amazing track - it was this!! Great memories from the 70's and one of Gerry Rafferty's best. Congratulations on reaching 50K!!
Love this song.... great classic.... great reaction.... thanks Angela and a big congratulations on 50.000 subscribers fantastic... I joined in at 9,000...... keep on keepin on !!!! :)
There are a few songs that have lyrics that you want to say to that special someone This is one of them from my teen years Thanks Angela and congrats on 50k I've been here almost since the beginning ❤ "You've been as constant as The Northern Star the brightest light that shines"
Yes, Sam Cooke is a legend, I love his voice and songs. You're right Chain Gang does remind me of the feel of this song Right Down The Line. Gerry Rafferty was a great choice. Thank you
So many memories hearing this on the radio, going to the drive in with my high school sweetheart, great music and great movies, fun times, thanks Angela!
I love this song!I Its the one that top forty radio didn't play every hour. I can't help but hear Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac singing it in my head .I think it's the cadence of it.RIP sweet Christine Perfect. Oh, and Mr. Rafferty RIP as well.
Huh, Chain Gang. Haven’t thought of that song for a long long time. A very memorable childhood song for me. Spin it up someday for the channel? (50k congrats!)
Yes, Gerry played the guitar solo. I think City to City is one of the all-time great albums, though perhaps under-appreciated. It's also one of the best sounding albums out there, even by today's standards. Lucky you, growing up with Sam Cooke's music. I did, too. He is another all-time great, a voice of emotion and silk.
I've been watching your reactions for a long time. I still go back and watch some of your best videos from time to time, but I'm enjoying each new video, seeing your facial expressions, and trying to read your lips to decipher what you're saying; part of the fun. Every time you smile it warms the heart.
Have been a long time subscriber but you haven't popped up in my feed for a while but I really loved that. I love the other connections that you made and it seems that it's a great experience to really just have a really positive song. His other huge hit, Baker street, was also really positive but it was a little more Melancholy in the lyrics I think. It was talking about disillusionment. And I love it I think it's a great song, but I'm so glad you did this one. There's just something so positive about it.
I am 70s guy, graduated high school in '76, and somehow, this song and Baker Street are the only two Rafferty songs that I can remember. Both great songs.
I wonder if the Roy Orbison song you were referring to was You Goit it (i.e. Anyway You Want It, you got it, anything you need, you got it, anything at all, you got it, baaay-bee ...).
One of my favorite Gerry Rafferty songs, in fact one of my favorite songs! What AMAZING bassline!! You would get a kick out of the "Chain Gang" cover by a group called The Nylons off their album "Happy Together".
You are so sweet! Love to hear your breakdown of what you heard. It's interesting from another perspective. How about Even In The Quietest Moments by Supertramp? I would live to hear what you think of that!
Hi Angela! Nice to see you listening to Gerry Rafferty, great song. Another good song with him is "Sleepwalking". You may be right, that the song reminds a bit of a Roy Orbinson song. I thought of 2-3 songs from Roy Orbinson, one is "Crying" and the other "Blue Bayou". But also the song "Falling" can be compared a bit to Gerry Rafferty's song. But, those are my suggestions, maybe you thought of another song. Great job, keep it up. 🙂
Really like Gerry Rafferty , he did some great songs including this one. 'Baker Street' and 'Get it right next time' are another couple of good ones. Great vocals and guitar-Colin Ward
I get what your saying Angela. It's not so much the vocals or instrumental arrangement, but the tempo and rhythm of the lyrics that made you think of Sam Cookes' song The Chain Gang. And it's funny my dad would play his Sam Cooke album often when I was growing up as well.
Try Blue Man Group feat. Venus Hum on the song I Feel Love. Cover of a Donna Summer song. It's a bit of comedy followed by great vocals and a true spectacle to see. Will post link below.
Hi there. You've played some nice songs on your channel. Give ''THE ARK" a try out (the official studio version) by Gerry Rafferty. It's one of his really TOP HITS !!! ✌️😄😲💥💥😄😂👆
I would love for you to listen to my favorite song. It's a rock ballad. The song is called HALLOWED GROUND ( with lyrics) the band is WASP. I'm a big fan of your channel! Hope you can listen to it on your channel someday. Thanks.

Star is one of my favorite Steelers Wheel songs. Nobody ever plays it. It seems to have fallen by the wayside.
All true.
PURO PINCHE GERRY RAFFERTY
So True❤ 😊
Roy Orbison was in The Traveling Wiburys Band also.
Hey Angela, you have a good singing voice! I like that you don't interrupt the songs and save your comments for after the song ends.
Right Down the line is a song I can never turn off .I have to listen to it all the way through ,everytime.
It is stuck in my brain. Very pleasing to my ears.
An actual song of love and respect. Beautiful as it gets.
Wish it was ‘78 again! Turn back the hands and find peace and comfort in these songs!
A true natural talent....his songs are so damn good,passionate, heartfelt,and reflective....RIP Gerry❤❤
She has the greatest smile ever , another great reaction!

One of my favorite songs by Gerry Rafferty..
I have always loved the guitar in this song. Don't know why, it's not difficult but it touches my soul.
This is a beautiful song, one of his best!
On both guitar and vocals, Gerry is so smooth.
There are a few songs that have lyrics that you want to say to that special someone This is one of them from my teen years Thanks Angela and congrats on 50k I've been here almost since the beginning ❤ "You've been as constant as The Northern Star the brightest light that shines"
simply classic! thank you for for this so much!
Another great Scott, RIP Gerry your music was so much a part of my teenage years in the 70’s. The best decade of music period
Yes, Sam Cooke is a legend, I love his voice and songs. You're right Chain Gang does remind me of the feel of this song Right Down The Line. Gerry Rafferty was a great choice. Thank you
“Chain Gang”… I can see a similarity in the rhythm and meter of the melody, but nothing other than that
Thank you for sharing this song, it takes me back to when I stationed in Memphis in Navy school.. this and Baker street, Go Navy!!
One of my favorite songs

Little bit of the platters melody too. This magic moment...
Great tune & one of my faves from him!!
Baker's Street!! Second favorite song by him.

That's a great song. This is one of the songs I grew up with. Great days. I hope someday you can do some rock power ballads.
It doesn't "play" like one but this is without a doubt one of the greatest love songs ever written.
Another great Scottish singer song writer
Hi Angela! Nice to see you listening to Gerry Rafferty, great song. Another good song with him is "Sleepwalking". You may be right, that the song reminds a bit of a Roy Orbinson song. Cool, you've done both of them now....Baker Street. TWo of the best Yacht Rock if not 70's songs there are.
I first heard this tune while sitting in a dentist's chair waiting for a shot of novocaine back in 1978...ahhh memories.
Watching you move to this one is just gold.
Sam Cooke was also Al Green's biggest inspiration , high praise.
The year our daughter was born and what a great song. I also have a woman like this 48 years strong.
Check out ' Whatever's written in your heart' another classic Gerry Rafferty track, with a gospel feel.
Cheers from Scotland!
Always loved this song, gave you hope that love can happen if you believe. Thanks for the memories.
🙏❤🌹 Gerry 🌹❤🙏
The song you may be thinking of by Roy Orbison is: This Magic Moment

Love the solo on the bass pick up 👍
I got many songs that I've written 🎸
Two for two tonight,Angela.Thumbs up.I too have notices the similarity of Steve Perry, and Sam Cookes voice.
Another Scottish singer you should try called Frankie Millar and his song called ( Darlin' ) he was friends with Gerry
This song reminds me of John Lennons song Woman
Really like Gerry Rafferty , he did some great songs including this one. 'Baker Street' and 'Get it right next time' are another couple of good ones. Great vocals and guitar-Colin Ward
PS -Yes I think you are right 'Only the lonely' has a similar vibe. Sam Cooke also was a great singer , I love his 'Wonderful World'-Colin Ward
Roy Orbison- Blue Bayou?
I get what your saying Angela. It's not so much the vocals or instrumental arrangement, but the tempo and rhythm of the lyrics that made you think of Sam Cookes' song The Chain Gang. And it's funny my dad would play his Sam Cooke album often when I was growing up as well.
Love this song………as a suggestion, please also react to another favourite of mine by Mr Rafferty…..called “Days gone Down”….thx!

Try Blue Man Group feat. Venus Hum on the song I Feel Love. Cover of a Donna Summer song. It's a bit of comedy followed by great vocals and a true spectacle to see. Will post link below.
