- As we prepare for our journey across Canada we check our gear and show you how we store it all. It's got more room than you think!
If you are interested in our bike rack, check out this video: • Fiamma Bike Rack on Ou...
Great to see your van! What is the brand of your inflatable SUP / kayak?
Thanks! I think they are Blue wave paddle boards. I’m pretty sure we have a link on the products page of our website.

Hey guys was curious as to were you purchased the aluminum telescoping ladder
We have a link on the products page of our website. Still using this ladder for close to 5 years now!

Thanks so much
DANG thats a ton of gear. have you ever checked you van weight when fully loaded? WOW you guys are creative on storage. Glad I watched this BEFORE we get our van LOL. You should definitely make a list of all the gear you use, brand, type, etc. I'd like to know from the folks who use it and truly camp and adventure with it. You should get a roof rack. DANG cool video, thanks for showing this. I'm not as big of an outdoor person as you two, though we LOVE to hike. Getting older has slowed me WAY down with those outdoor activities, but we love where you camp and what you do. It is truly inspirational.
Kerry Shrode We did weigh it and we are close to recommended max weight. No more toys☹️😁 We’ll think abou a gear list, good idea. We’d like a roof rack but the roof is covered with solar that we can’t block. Next van I might have a rack installed and mount solar on top of it.
Great video. Can you tell me the size of your telescopic ladder?
www.careyonvagabond.com/amazon-products
It’s 10.5’ . There’s a link to the one we have on our website. 😀
Wow!
Thank you for this video, we must of watched it 5 times before we bought our SRT yesterday. We traded in a 40foot diesel bus for it and travel with 2 90 pound dogs 😮 nice to see how to pack a van and use all the space 👍🇨🇦
Congratulations and safe travels!
Awesome ! Welcome to Canada :)
ruth vancise Thanks Ruth!!
Hi can you please tell me where you store your clothing?
And how much do you weight before and after packing??
Hello Vagabonds!!!! I am looking for that link to finding the Rear Rack for you van. Could you please let me know more about it, so we can look for one too. We love watching your videos and are learning so much about packing up and how, where and why you put your things where you put them. Thanks for the videos, we look forward to seeing more of Canada, along with you.
Sharon Lee Lockhart here is the link to the video we made on the Fiamma Bike Rack ua-cam.com/video/PT6SnssJQgU/v-deo.html
We bought ours on eBay and it shipped from Italy, totally worth it for us! Let us know if you have any additional questions. :)
Thank You very much, for that link and for telling us all where you bought yours. I hope to find what we need there too. Thanks again!!!
Thank you so much taking the time to make this video. All of your videos get me excited for retirement and a Zion next year, but this one also allows for more detailed planning (Irene: Thanks for calling out those measurements!). Also, if there's a prize to be had for best use of hooks and velcro, you're a shoo-in, Dave. I expect I'll be borrowing heavily from your ideas. Really appreciate it!
eirdwob You're welcome and thank you! We look forward to hearing about your future plans and adventures! We are happy to help with anything we can. You made the meticulous Irene happy with your comment tonight:)
Looks like the Beverly Hillbilly’s when they moved. That’s a lotta stuff. 👍
Onion Head 😂😂😂😂😂
Wow ! Very impressive all your storage ideas. Thanks to you guys I finally found out how to hang my road bike inside in the back. Thanks ! Curious what size eye bolts you use ? close up picture please . Also how many inches between bolts?
Really enjoying your videos. Thank You
Lou Goncalves You’re welcome! Thanks for watching us and letting us know!
So glad I found your channel...
Subbed..!
PJ Mac Thanks! Just rolled into Washington today!
Carey On Vagabond how cool I live in Tacoma.... welcome
Great job on accommodating the things that you need to fit your lifestyle. Thanks for sharing it with us all. I am looking forward to more of your great videos. Have fun with your future travels and adventures.
campfire52 Thank you so much for your kind words! They mean a lot! And thanks for watching!
AMAZING HOW MUCH STUFF YOU CAN FIT IN THOSE THINGS. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.........
Isn’t it incredible! We really lucked out with this rig!
You guys are a cute couple, just found your channel. I so want to do what your doing. If you plan on doing things outdoors and in the wind, you need to get microphone wind covers. It will make a huge difference in the sound quality. They cost $6 to $20.
I love this video. About to buy a van. All good except sound. That was disappointing as wanted to hear and see all!
Ecliptic. Good call. Sure you came through Bellingham. If you're through again, beers on me. Love your van and your adventures.
Dave M Thanks and that sounds like a deal! Ecliptic is one of my favorites!
Hi guys, great video! Can you please tell me where you purchased the collapsible ladder?
Urbanwarrior Sorry for the delayed reply, I missed your question. Been out of service a bit lately. It is an "idealchoiceproduct" 10.5ft ladder from amazon.
No problem we all get busy. Thanks for the information!
Hi Guys! Great video as usual. I really like the insights into the perfect amount of stuff! So looking forward to following you across Canada. Take care
Kerri Tyler Thanks Kerri! Great to hear from you! Just got into Leavenworth, Washington tonight so I think it's time for a German beer:)
What things would change if you built your own van? Bed, back windows, do you use AC?
Great video....I especially enjoyed as we have similar gear to consider (same tent in fact). A couple of things; first welcome to Canada (or almost). As a a suggestion, start with Long Beach near Tofino-similar to the coast of Oregon but a real west coast feel, though a ferry trip is involved. Worth it I believe. Second, note that if you go to Banff or Jasper or both, that they about 4000 ft in elevation and near the end of August the evenings may get close to or a little bit below freezing. Nothing to worry about though. Enjoy and look forward to all the videos-and loved the axe, looked like something from a Viking's movie. One short question, we have narrowed our choices now to either the Zion or Zion SRT. Do you think the former would fit most parking spots OK. It seems like there are a lot more choices on the market now for the Zion, though the SRT looks like it would meet our needs as it does yours.
Gordon Ruth Thanks for being the first to welcome us to Canada! We are so excited to visit! And thank you very much for the tips. Info from people like you makes doing this worthwhile! Full size Zion or SRT..Such a personal and tough choice. With our bike rack we are more comfortable in a regular parking spot than if we had the full size. Aside from that with the full size most of the difference is a king bed instead of a queen. Our Boston terrier made the king tempting as she seems to extend to about 6 feet at night:) Most of the extra storage is under the bed so it didn't seem worth it for us so far. Hope this helps. If not let us know and thanks for watching!
Carey On Vagabond I forgot to mention that the best weather forecasts here in Canada come from Environment Canada ( weather.gc.ca/city/pages/bc-17_metric_e.html). You can select by City as needed and even has a 24 forecast if needed by the hour (not to be followed too closely). Hope this helps: my guess, you are close to the border by now. Enjoy wherever your route takes you!
And if the link doesn't work just go to their website and type in the city (or close to as needed)...
Gordon Ruth Good guess!:) We drove into Canada this morning on Highway 97. Parked near Okanagan lake for the night. Thanks for the link! Weather is great so far! Even went for a swim:) We'll probably drive a little tomorrow but we'll wait until Monday to go into Banff. Thanks again for the info.
Welcome to Canada, enjoy your stay eh. This was fun and informative thanks.
Lyricist1anda2 Thank you:)
Great video! How did you mount the double stick Velcro in the bed area? We have a new-to-us 2007 Roadtrek and I am trying to figure how to mount the Velcro? I’m hesitant to use screws anywhere that there is not already a screw. Safe travels!
Thank you and congrats on the Roadtrek!!! Hope you have many safe happy miles full of adventures! I did use screws and was hesitant as well but I new the panel I was attaching them to was thick enough for some very short screws. They work great and there is little weight on them. They have lasted well over some very rough back roads. Keep us posted!
With the bike taking some room from the "bedroom" along with the other hanging "toys" just wondering what your experience with sleeping comfortably across the back is? Especially with 2 fitting in there.
Stephen Stringer it seems to work just fine for us. It may be a bit "cozy" but it never seems cramped.
Hello! I subbed you two weeks ago, but this is the first time im commenting! You two have some really cool toys. I was curious what your Load Bearing Capacity is? Seems like you're right at that limit lol! Cheers ✌🏻🍻
roberto abrams We are getting close to the 1250 lb cargo occupant limit:) The key is light stuff. Ultra light backpacking gear and a carbon fiber bike:) May have to rip out some oak cabinet doors if we get much more😆Thanks for watching!!!
Wow, I cannot believe how much stuff you fit into your van! I'm downsizing to a class B van, and was worried about storage. But, after seeing your video, I'm not worried now! LOL I really like your telescoping ladder. Do you know what length it is? Great video!
Steve Travis Thanks Steve! It's an "idealchoiceproduct" 10.5ft ladder that we got on amazon. Enjoy the smaller van. Oh the places you'll go!:)
Maybe you can try a cargo box on your rear hitch for storage, just an idea. Great video. Your dog has it made with both of you doing all the work .
flpirate45 Thanks! Hmmm...now that you mention it, you're right! Pistol seems to get away with no work! She does however excel at laying on Irene's lap!:)
Love the video, it was great to see how you can shoehorn things in, yet still have room to live/move around. Velcro straps on the wall are a great idea. Can you post a link for the ladder, please? Thanks!
Joseph Osborne Thank you! We got our ladder on amazon and are very happy with it for what we do. Still experimenting with the best way to store it but so far so good. Thanks for watching! www.amazon.com/Idealchoiceproduct-Aluminium-Telescopic-Telescoping-Extension/dp/B06XTBXTXG
Carey On Vagabond Good deal, thanks for the link!
This is an amazing amount of stuff! You guys know what you are doing. I want to get a Zion SRT, but with the Simplicity bed and without powersteps. Roadtrek told me to contact a dealer because they may do it as a custom build. I am about a year out from ordering a Zion and wonder if you guys have the solar package and underhood generator and if so, is it worth it? Thank you!
Cinnamon Girl Thanks:) We would prefer a full time bed as well since we never make it into a couch. The power steps are nice but not needed. We love the solar package and under hood generator! Wouldn't go without after having it!
The Hymer Aktiv 1.0 has more under bed storage because the bed is permanent and high. Only shortcoming of Aktiv 1.0 is the small fridge
But the only thing I see that's an issue is the bikes are not locked up. I hate to say it but some unreasonable people out there with nothing to lose will try you as soon as you guys are gone. Lock them up. Everything is else is kind of awesome. Too crowded for me but kind of awesome.
Thanks! We actually have two different types of locks on the bikes but I must not have showed that in this video. It can be a bit crowded but it has been awesome! We get bored without our toys😉😁🚐
Another great video. We hope you enjoyed the eclipse. We currently travel full time in our 2013 Nissan Xterra and do house and pet sitting. We have been going to RV shows and considering getting one so your videos keep us informed and inspired. One issue we are dealing with is how to insure the contents of our vehicle since we carry everything we own in it. We can't get renters or homeowners insurance since we don't own or rent. Do you have any insight into this? Anyone else reading this is welcome to comment. Thanks, Dawn and Kelly.
TravelsWithDawnAndKelly.com
Travels with Dawn and Kelly Thanks! We did enjoy the eclipse! It was absolutely epic. As far as insurance goes our RV is our only vehicle so we don't have typical car insurance. We just have RV insurance. The good RV insurance companies offer various amounts of personal property protection. There are a number of them that all offer a few different options depending on your needs. We have been recently comparing some of the better ones to ensure we have what works for us. Google best rv insurance companies and you can learn a lot! Hope this helps. Living and traveling in an xterra and house/pet sitting sounds like an awesome adventure! Thanks for watching!
What is the brand name of the ladder? I want one
