That's not what he said. He said you should shut off any propane-powered refrigerator you may have in your RV prior to pulling into a gas station. This is due to the fact that propane-powered refrigerators have an open flame on their back side just inside the vents. If you had a large gasoline spill it's possible that the spill would produce enough gasoline vapors to be ignited by the refrigerator's propane flame. But even though he didn't say so, any generators you might have running when entering a gas station should probably also be shut off before pumping gas. This is why you are required to shut off your car's engine before pumping gas. It's a potential source of ignition.
Any tips for finding your Roadtrek? I've been checking the obvious places like craigslist, rv trader, rvt, and facebook marketplace...but hoping you know something I don't!
I just bought a 1991 Chevy 190 Versatile. I flew from Hawaii to Grand Rapids, MI. I drove 6000 miles in 6 weeks. I plan to ship it to Hawaii next month after my trip to the West from Central Texas.
I have a 02D190P, and done modifications too. LED strips along shower curtain track and around opera windows. Many may not know that under the fabric plugs you can snap off to reveal screws that can be loosened to put tie points.
Bob thx for your video. I need to replace my dometic in 96D190P. I've researched all 3-3.3 cf mini compressor models and all are too tall to fit well in the rough out. What cf size is your insignia? Did you opt for the 2.6-2.7 size? Thx
Just bought my first RV, and it's a 202 Roadtrek 170. I'm so looking forward to hitting the road. I know nothing about installing back up cameras and solar both of which are on my list of firsts. Wish me luck.
enjoyed the video where do you stow the battery's. most of the videos I've been watching fran on using inverters DC to AC wonder why? I was under the impression the inverter suck more electricy. I was planning a canoe on the roof could I get by w/ just one panel to power frieg. * charge house batterys?currently have the 3 way type frieg.thanks
I saw that you have what looks like a regular extension chord hooked to your shore line. How does that work? How does that not trip the circuit breaker? Do you have the extension chord connected to a 30 amp outlet? I tried to connect my Roadtreck to an outside outlet on my house, and it tripped a circuit breaker in my Roadtreck twice! Needless to say, I stopped doing that for fear that I would damage something. Wow! It would be nice to plug into my house! But, I can’t!
I just bought the 98D190V, whenever I tried turning the generator on I just heard a clicking sound, and my van started to smell like gas. My indicator switch is broken so I still need to repair that, but does the clicking just mean it needs more fuel?
Thank you for a very helpful explanation of your solar system and 110v electric fridge. What would you suggest for solar panel wattage, given current products, to run a 110v fridge? Could a small electric 110v heater also be used? Any preferences for current solar panel mfgrs? Like you, I would prefer to abandon propane. 96D190P Roadtrek.
I would have to do a litte research on the newer solar. I would get at least 200 watts your battery bank is just as important. A electric heater would draw a lot of power. A solar system takes some figureing out pending on what you will be running.
I have a 1995 190 Versatile Roadtrek and I'm debating between a hard wired solar system like you have here, or buying a jackery 1000 watt with a portable suitcase solar to charge it. Which would you recommend? Thank you for your great videos! They're very helpful!
I've not had a Jackery, so I honestly can't say about it. It would be nice to have a Jackery, but it must be kept charged, and you need solar or electricity to charge it, or may be able to charge it going down the road. So that is a consideration. Hard wired solar is nice, as long as you have sun to keep it charged. We liked our set up. There are so many variables, that it is really your preference and price. Good luck to you. Have fun with your Roadtrek. They are awesome.
If you join FMCA & Roadtrek International, you'll learn all sorts of information from experienced Roadtrekkers. One trick is to increase tire pressure to 65/80. Another is to get a good alignment. I have a '97 Dodge 170 with too much steering play, and both those helped significantly.
If you have a Dodge from the late 90's, there is a TSB with new alignment specifications that should help. The TSB is 19-002-01 REV. A. Caster is set to +3.5 degrees, Camber to 0 degrees, and total Toe-in to 0.25 degrees. I had an alignment just done at a good shop, and they tried to get as close as they could. I also switched out the steering box for a Red Head rebuilt one. Expensive, but I think it helps. I still get some wander, but it's better than it has been in many years. I have a 1999 Versatile.
Hello! I just bought a roadtrek and also live in Florida! I would love to pick your brain on the solar setup and that sort of stuff. Would I be able to pay you for some of your time so you can show me some more stuff about these amazing cars?!
Thanks, but we no longer own the Roadtrek. They are awesome little campers. Have you joined any Roadtrek groups yet? There are several on Facebook and have lots of good info. Members enjoy sharing their knowledge and info about them. Not sure of the year of yours, but my favorite group is '74- '03 Roadtrek Owners - Vintage & Classic Years. Think about checking them out and joining if you haven't already. Appreciate you watching.
I realize you no longer have it, but a few questions about your solar: How long will that frig. run on your battery/inverter? What brand inverter? Was it loud? Did you bolt the solar panels thru the roof? Any issues with the ceiling liner inside? thanks for the links to FB Group
Hi Lee. Thanks for watching. We ran the fridge 24/7 for two years on solar. No issues. We live in Florida and had plenty of sunshine here. The inverter was a Power Tech 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter. The solar panels were bolted on with expandable rubber grommets, think they were mollies. I used Dicor around the grommets to seal them. No leaks from the solar panels. Hope this helps. Good luck, Lee. I'm going to add a link a video of the Tour of our Solar System. It shows the inverter and the grommet we used.

@@LuckyDawgProductionsModerator I'm about to raise mine a few inches and get tires that are about 3" wider. I found a shop where they can make it a 4 wheel drive for about $7000. If I do that, they will put leaf springs in the front.
