    Love ❤️ the driving through the light snow ❄️ seems like the weather temperature has dropped to a cool beautiful Fall day. And the Niagara Falls is sooo heavenly beautiful. Poor adorable Pistol is not so interested in the cold weather. Great captured moments as always. 😘♥️😘
    Be happy & stay safe.

    Thanks for the tour. Currently have a wonderful 170 but want something just a bit larger for doing longer trips when we officially retire in a few years. Agile SS was our other option but reading the forums from people having exhaust and expensive repair issues made our choice to go with Dodge Promaster chassis. Have fun with your adventures, your really living the dream.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Walleye We do love the Dodge chassis and the only trouble we've had was with the seat. You can see in the video here how we fixed it: ua-cam.com/video/b5ei8fpr3CI/v-deo.html. A pretty minor issue with over 30k miles on her. Hope you find just the right rig for your needs. If you have any more questions feel free to email at careyonvagabond@gmail.com and we will do our best to help! Happy Trails!

      Carey On Vagabond thank you Carey, interesting video on the seat. I can see why it would one crazy. Not enough to turn me off on the Roadmaster though. We carry a tandem on our Roadtrek, that presents a few challenges. Take care and have fun.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Walleye The front wheel drive and turning radius alone would make it hard for us to give up the Promaster. I can see how a tandem would be a challenge to carry, it would not work on our current bike rack system.

    Calpyro27 we actually do not have the Volt Start. We looked into it and decided against that since it received mixed reviews on it's reliability. Hopefully that has improved since 2016. Instead we park in the shade and crack a window and leave the Fantastic Fan running. We have found this to be more than sufficient though we do not leave her in there if it is especially hot.

    Love the spice bins on the backsplash - I’m gonna have to do this. Will free up a little space in the cupboard.
    Love the set up and storage space of the Zion as well. Well - except for the stove - they obviously didn’t put much thought into that. Mine is similar and I really wish I could remove it and replace it with one of the stove/oven/toaster combos like the small SUV’s have in Europe. Those are SO practical, especially if you have a lot of solar or are plugged in most of the time. often. Many of the overseas ranges in small RVs have one or two propane burners AND one induction burner. It would also be SO super nice to have a small propane stove so that I could bake, toast or heat something up and not have to turn on the generator or connect to shore power. I’ve got a convection microwave (surprised that yours isn’t), but would much rather have an oven. I guess I could bring a small electric toaster oven, but again - I’d have to have 110. Maybe there is an actual way to change it all out, might have to look into that in the future.
    Also, are you guys impressed with your inflatable SUP when using it as a kayak? If so, what is the brand of the inflatable SUP? If you were only going to kayak, would you rather have an inflatable that was only a kayak? I’m trying to figure out a way to bring a kayak with me in my class B. A hard sided one is out of the question due to no where to put it and I’ve have been told that the inflatable SUP’s make good kayaks - so I figure I’d ask.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  5 років тому

      Treeza Fernweh Hey there! I think our SUPS are much better at being SUP’s than Kayaks. They work ok but I miss having an actual kayak. We are still in the search for a good inflatable kayak for us and our pup. Our SUP’s are the Blue Wave Stingray.

    • @treezafernweh4156
      @treezafernweh4156 5 років тому

      I asked in a FB forum and no one was able to steer me in the right direction. Most feel that the inflatable kayaks they’d tried were too flimsy. A few people suggested the plastic, hard sided foldable ones (I cannot recall the brand). They’re like plastic origami boats that fold up, but that sounds like it could break easily - plastic can only bend so many times before breaking. I hope we both eventually find and get what we want.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  5 років тому +1

      Treeza Fernweh These white water kayaks are durable but spendy. Might be worth it if you have room to store one. If we get one we’ll do a video:) Let is know if you get something!

  • @TWROC96

    I've watched several videos of B class RVers who say they want a single induction burner. That way they can use their solar power and have room on the counter top for an Instant Pot (their food can be cooking while they are out hiking, fishing or rafting). Also, I heard others say that they don't need the bathroom sink in their B class RV. They just use the kitchen sink. I heard the Roadtrek President actually reads the Facebook membership page so hopefully he'll take note of how a lot of the Promaster RV folks are adapting their vans. Thanks for the tour of your van. I really enjoy your videos. By the way, where does Pistol sleep?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому +2

      TWROC96 Where does Pistol sleep? The short answer is anywhere she wants! She actually sleeps on our bed... it does make our queen size feel more like a twin some days.🐶😜
      It will be interesting to see what Roadtrek comes up with in the next few years, especially with their merge with Hymer. Lots of possibilities for sure. Thanks for watching!

    This is just my opinion. I think you guys have done an amazing job at making the van work. However, you may need to size down some more especially when you start seeing stuff in the wet bath. I believe in the future you might want to look at something like the Thor Axis/Vegas. It's the same size as your current coach but is low to the ground like your current van but is styled like a Class A and I bet it would consume all that stuff and make your van look less cramp. And it fits in a normal parking space. Just won't clear a garage. I would check it out just for fun. It's really innovative. If you see one at an RV show do a video review on what you think compared to what you have. You also want it to be 2018 because of the upgraded European interior changes.

    The magic question - how does it track in snow? Tempted with 4x4 Roadtrek or normal transmission. But, good lord the cost of 4x4 Roadtrek says it won't be New. Other must haves, I looked at Leisure Crafts too big but, their diesel Ford if it just wasn't a ford.

    • @CareyOnVagabond

    Another great video. Looked today at another Zion, but it had a front facing sofa like in your SRT, induction stove and an Alde heating system (that means heated floors), starts to increase costs. We think we can live without as potential part timers. Now if we found an SRT with same options today we likely would have put in an offer...still it is tempting. Unrelated, but what camera do you folks use? Enjoy and see you soon (or the videos at least) here in BC.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Gordon Ruth we use a GoPro Hero 5 Session for most all video, we do have a Sony Cybershot RX Mark IV we have used for more scenic shots..we talk about them both here ua-cam.com/video/sA-9mCQqTM4/v-deo.html We thought we would use the Sony more but turns out the GoPro is just so convenient we use it for most everything. About the Zion you recently looked at, I didn't know they were now making them with the induction cooktop and the Alde heat system...very tempting indeed. Still not sure I would trade the convenience of the shorter SRT though. Thanks for following, we will be in BC next week! Yahoo!! 🚐🐶😎

    Thank you so much for sharing! I want to live like this, or at least travel like this so much! Thanks for taking us inside the bathroom. I take it you do also use the toilet? Is that a problem that so many people talk about? Also, I live in Southwest Louisiana and cannot imagine a life without constant air conditioning. I have seen people who have built their own vans with enough solar power to run an AC. I don't know where you guys live and travel, but I am guessing it's not in the South. (I wouldn't live here either but I have to do so.). I would love to rent one of these. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the great review! How does the Volt Start feature work with the AC? We have a dog as well and would like to have the ability to leave him in a cool place while were out occasionally. I've read mixed reviews on the various RV bulletin boards about the Roadtrek's battery/Volt start system to run the AC.

  • @BearUkulele
    @BearUkulele 7 років тому +1

    Wow. Thanks for such an honest and transparent tour of your home. The scene from inside the wet bath was especially helpful for me. Did you ever consider Sportsmobile? Any thoughts you care to share? I'm going back 'n forth between them and Roadtrek.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      BearUkulele Thanks! We are actually not very familiar with the Sportsmobile. I'll have to check it out. We really like the model we are in for now. The layout works well for us. I suspect the next few years could bring a lot of new things in class B's. Let's hope so anyway!

    • @BearUkulele
      @BearUkulele 7 років тому +1

      You actually already enjoy one of the great "new things": lithium batteries, solar and the 2nd alternator (aka engine generator). I get the impression from Roadtrek's literature that the engine will run 35 min. increments when the battery level drops below a set level. It's not clear whether that system would let you run the AC continuously for several hours. Since the AC PROBABLY (just guessing) drains the batteries faster than the solar & alternator can charge them, it's still a net loss and eventually you hit the limits of your battery bank.
      Suggestion about hot water: run the water at the start of the shower into a bucket until it gets warm enough. That water can be used to wash dishes or hands later.
      Safe travels and thanks again for sharing your journey.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      BearUkulele Thanks! We didn't get the volt start that starts the engine when the battery reaches a certain level. We have ran our AC for 30 minutes parked in the sun on batteries alone. Then we were able run the AC continually with the engine (alternator) running. It seems to keep up with the AC! Typically we run the engine for awhile with AC running. Then stop the AC for awhile while the engines charge the batteries back up. What we really prefer is to drive somewhere where we don't need the AC! 😁

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Dreamer So funny to read your question about the privacy curtain tonight! We are camped in the mountains tonight and looking at our curtain a few minutes ago thinking about a better way to do it! Currently we have it hung with Velcro across the top just below the storage bin. When not in use (which is most of the time) we roll it up from the bottom and stuff it in the overhead bin leaving the top velcroed. We are working on something different and will hopefully add it to a new video soon:) Enjoy your new Roadtrek!! Keep us posted!! Would love to see any of your adventures!

    Great review! My wife and I are looking for a class b to help us escape Canadian winters. She would like a rig that she could comfortably drive, I think this is it. I like the solar, lithium and engine charging system. I have a few questions. When the coach is plugged into shore power will the batteries charge? I do not want a fixed onan generator but I do have a very efficient Honda 2000, I wonder if it would power the ac? Is there an aux propane hookup for a BBQ? Finally which is the best rv show to attend in the Florida area which would have a wide variety of class b's? Thank you.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Nomadic Newfies Yes!!!Escape those cold winters!:) Okay...when plugged in our batteries do charge. Also with the extra alternator they call the "under hood generator" the batteries charge anytime the engine is running. With solor and this system we almost never plug in. We have ran our AC for 30 minutes off just the batteries and continuously with the engine running keeping the batteries charged. We do not need or want a regular generator taking up limited space for more toys:) There is an aux propane hookup but we haven't used it. As far as rv shows in Florida we have no clue. One of our viewers mentioned a show in Tampa FL in January that we may attend. We are heading across Canada in a week or so to the east coast! Then down south from there for the winter. We are not on the road yet but hopefully in the next couple years. I am reading and trying to learn as much as possible about my options. I own a service station so summertime I love seeing the tourists with all the different models. I met a couple from Quebec yesterday with the same model as u. They were friendly and let me look around. They loved the zion and when I got home I started researching and ended up on your video. I want to do a large rv show this winter to help me make a decision then I may be able to make a purchase next summer. So far the zion has everything I need and at the right price point to see if this mode of recreation is for us. :)

    This was an awesome video. It would be nice to hear how loud the engine is since that is used as a generator. Do the batteries run the air conditioner?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      B Trumble Thanks! When the vans engine is running it is quiet. It sounds no different than any other modern car when idling. The batteries do run the AC. We typically only run off batteries for 15 minutes before starting the engine to recharge the batteries. I go into this in more detail on some of my other comments here if you want more info. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    How did you attach the shoe organizers and the. Cloths lines?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  6 років тому

      Hi Gen! Since this video we have made quite a few changes and will try and show them better in a later video. The shoe organizer is attached with a very small wood screw with a washer in all 4 corners. For clothesline we have attached 4 command hooks on each of the rear upper cabinet doors across from each other. 4 lines with a loop on each end are stored until needed when they are then hung over the command hooks. Hope this helps!

    Roadtrek should have copied your bathroom door latch idea. Do you still have a Planet Fitness membership for wasteful showers? 😉 Let’s say you’ve lived in the van for 500 days. How many times have you used the indoor shower? I get the impression the outdoor shower is used much more frequently. Carey on!

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  6 років тому

      Hmmm I’d say we’ve used the indoor shower less than ten times in 53,000 miles. 😂😬 We do still have the PF membership but haven’t been using it as of late. We should cancel that!

    Im starting to consider buying a zion srt i like the look of it the front sky windows the front nose and window , and length of 19' 6", Plus it has a good galley pantry storage ,and under the bed storage , fair price. i can see why you chose a zion srt, ?

    Great review, thanks! How does it do boondocking in the back country? How is the clearance below?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому +4

      Teryl Smith it actually does very well. We would like an extra inch or two of clearance but we have gotten by just fine. We are considering putting slightly bigger tires on her next time she needs some, that would raise her up a bit. Since we do most of our living in remote areas and not campgrounds we have been more than pleased. Check out this video for some nail biting clearance footage ua-cam.com/video/sEkWHg2xtnU/v-deo.html. Great walk though. Thanks! I like the layout and am attempting to mirror it in my own Promaster. I am curious where Roadtrek places the inverter, breaker panel and water tanks on his model.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  6 років тому

      Gerald Stephens We are very happy with this layout so far. Our inverter is in the rear drivers side overhead compartment near where the fridge is. The breaker panel is directly above the drivers head on the bottom of the overhead compartment. The fresh water tank is under the van fairly centered behind the driver and passenger seats. Depending on van use in cold weather I’d consider putting it under the bed if I ever build one. Winterizing is a pain:)

    Dave- how comfortable are you in this bed. I’m about the same height as you are 5’10-11. We plan to use our van to visit family, tour, and tailgate. Bed isn’t the top priority, but if it’s too cramped we may have to go for the longer Zion. Thx

    Hi...Thanks for the video. I 'm interested in the SRT because I want the shortest vehicle possible, but I'm also 5'11 inches tall and sometimes travel with my wife who is 5'6" tall. I don't want to sleep at an angle. What do you think. Your video said you are 5'11" as well. Are you comfortable sleeping without being at an angle? I read about full size beds on the internet and they are 75 x 48 and it said it was best for people not over 5'5'', and the SRT is only 72"

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      David C. I have no problem and I don't sleep at an angle. I typically sleep on my side but if I lay flat on my back with my head near the wall and my feet pointed up my toes rest on the other wall but my heals aren't touching. This doesn't bother me at all but if possible I would recommend finding one to try. Hope this helps.

      Thanks, I'm in Thailand until February, then I plan on checking them out. I like to leave my bed made up and I don't think the regular Zion is as good for that because it's hard to access it's storage. Being able to sleep sideways is so nice because it gives you more space for other things in such a small coach. Other than that I love the front wheel drive, and the rest of the floor plan including the large, eye height fridge. When you compare it ti the Sprinter Agile for instance, the passenger side galley, large fridge, wider vehicle, and shorter because of no need for the spare tire carrier on the back door, and the much lower price are all advantages of the Zion Srt. Thanks for the informative video, and your reply...TC.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      David C. Good luck. We also put a 3 inch memory foam pad on ours and it's much more comfortable. Only works if you leave the bed made which we always do. And yes, the fridge is great!

    Do you guy ever desire/need for a 4WD rig?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Terry B At this point we don't have a desire for 4WD. We really like the front wheel drive but would like a bit more ground clearance. Actually considering a little lift:) Hope this helps. Let us know if not. Thanks for watching!

    • @TerryManitoba
      @TerryManitoba 7 років тому

      THX that helps a bunch- Do you figure your FWD handles difficult terrain (ice/snow/mud/sand/hills) with less drama that a RWD would (everything else remaining equal)? What are you thinking -2" lift?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Terry B I prefer front wheel over rear wheel drive on bad road conditions and this thing has plenty of power and climbs like a champ. We do however avoid sand (beach camping sounds better than it is) mud, snow and ice. We are putting on some strong all terrain tires for those times you can't avoid it. As far as lifting It I would be happy with even one inch but have to do some more research on any handling issues or other problems this may cause. For a mix of urban and dispersed camping we do fine.

    • @TerryManitoba
      @TerryManitoba 7 років тому

      That would be a 2 thumbs up on the FWD. Thanks again. I understand BF Goodrich A/T may be a good choice. No problems with desert sands? Good luck with the research on the lift potentials. the Sprinter 4*4 was raised at least 2" over their 2wd.

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  7 років тому

      Terry B Thanks for the info! We avoid any type of loose sand. Most of the dispersed camping land we camp on has fairly hard packed "roads." If it looks loose we just don't go:) As we evolve in our travel life who knows what our needs will be!:)
