How does a man on disability pay close to 5k a month for "maintenance" and child support? I looked up "court ordered maintenance", and it is just a substitute word for alimony. Its definition is to allow the spouse to maintain her existing lifestyle. In other words, Clay was forced to pay his wife so she can have sex with other men. To rub salt in his wound, Clay was forbidden to see two of his biological children. I wonder if the courts secretly monitor these types of situations to see how long before violence is initiated?
@@DwightStJohn-t7y : While the courts cant see the future, anyone with a working brain can see this type of financial hardship alongside the unfair terms imposed against the man can and will lead to violence.
Obviously we can't see it all just watching this video, but based on what's said here, I agree with you. It's not a jury's job to make someone pay during deliberations, only to determine if the case is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. I think way too many juries want to make someone pay on their watch. She deserves justice for sure but convicting someone who may be innocent is not the answer.
You realize the trial went on for several weeks right? The jurors hurt a whole hell of a lot that isn't covered here. Did you see any parts of the trial or the closing statements? These reasonable doubts that you think are there I wonder why the defense attorneys didn't make them? Do you think that's incompetence and the defense attorneys were engaged in malpractice or what? I don't know if you've ever been on a jury but what goes on in jury deliberations is markedly different from what gets reported publicly. The system is not perfect but it's a hell of a lot more bias to let guilty people go free then guilty people to get convicted although all these true crime podcasts and TV shows makes everybody think that things work much different than they really do
$4700 per month plus maintenance!!!! This is exactly why murders happen and exactly why young men now are refusing marriage. This is outrageous!!! Having been through it I know. Mother collects money, does as many other men as she can. Collects her own money plus whatever she can suck in from other men. Then stands in the way of visitation with their father. I have no sympathy whatsoever!!
I won’t marry mine. We co-habitat and have a baby girl, but I won’t marry her and the second the whole “taking me to court” comes up to take all my money, when I pay all the bills, is something I refuse to allow to happen to, me no matter what. Imagine being unable to speak, and you managed to dial 911 in secret while being held captive, but no one bothers to show up at your home, and you end up being murdered. It appears that no investigation was done after the 911 call was received, and even a simple welfare check was bungled. I can only speculate as to how high the level of policing incompetence may be in this situation like this. Here's what I think, the incompetence was very high. As to Clay's innocence, I think he's guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but a much more professional and conclusive investigation should have been performed.
This is a huge problem with police. They ignore or don’t follow up quickly on things like this. They’re working on other things like pulling over mostly law abiding citizens at random and doing fishing expeditions to invent charges. That means they’re safe, flexing their power, and working on “their terms”. That’s what police enjoy doing with their time
I always wonder about situations like this and if the victim knew how to tap out an SOS, would an emergency operator would even recognize it? -- edit: It would almost always be possible to tap the receiver _(3 quick, 3 slow, 3 quick)_ more quietly than it would to actually dial 911 ...I also wonder if repeating the SOS would be more or less likely to confuse the operator.
The 4th amendment and “castle doctrine” are very high bars to hurdle. Generally speaking, with 911 hang ups, in the absence of any further info suggestive of exigency, police can’t enter.

i'm not sure that jury system is that great because it's so easy to be swayed by the dominant personalities in the group and the peer pressure to just go along with whatever everybody is thinking. what should happen in a case like this is for every juror to write an essay stating how they come to the conclusion so that we can examine if their thinking process is even logical.

This seems like something that was extremely circumstantial. No TOD mentioned, no legwork done into the partners of the past couple months. I wonder if they tested the son’s DNA compared to the DNA found?? It’s possible the sons could be just as upset with their mom’s promiscuous actions.
There's so many things wrong with this case. The ex certainly could have done it, but, it just as easily can be explained as another one of her 10 (known) partners realizing he wasn't the only one, or even just killing her for fun and staging it to point to the ex. I don't know enough of the details to judge - and neither did the court nor jury.
I wondered about the son too. And here's another alternate theory of the crime - she wasn't 'posed', that was just the position she was in when one of her 10 boyfriends jabbed her with the stun gun for fun and she died laughing (or not). The whole case against the ex-husband is circumstantial as all get out.
Next door neighbor to one of my high school friends was a lady like this. Her husband was out of town all the time and she literally had young guys waiting their turn in the living room
How would the ex husband know she is having sex with a lot of men…. She told him ? I’m not sure how the mother thought having all these men in her life was safe for her children either … this is very tragic . Thank you for the story Dr. Grande ❤
I looked into it, more than I should have, and it's not clear that the woman was having sex with many men, that's a claim made by Clay's defence. It looked to me, she was trying to find another partner, and to do that , she was dating several men to find the right one. Some of her dates said that they never had sex with her, it was just a date. The sex toys appear to have been planted by whoever tortured and murdered Chanin, they were used to humiliate the victem. Some time prior to the murder, a bag of dildos was left at Chanin's door, no proof who did it, but Chanin knew it was Clay (she should have invested in a secrity camera system). Apparently she feared Clay and told people close to her that she suspected he was breaking into her home and stealing things. Clay says that everyone who testified that he was feared by Chanin and stalking her are liars. There's two sides to a story, and Dr Grande left out a lot of damning details. Go to Clay's innoncence FB page, it's as if Chanin never even existed, it's 100% all about Clay. If my wife was brutally killed, even if I devorced and wrongfully convincted, my remaining years would be dedicated with finding the real killer. This man Clay, looks to me as a controlling manipulative narcisist, but that's just a theory ...
He had a right to be angry at Shanon but she didn’t deserve to die. The revenge was not worth throwing his life away and traumatizing his poor children. One of them actually took her own life. So tragic
Why did he “have a right to be mad at her”? She doesn’t dictate how much money he pays, that stuff is decided by a judge based on his income level and amount of children under 18… He had no reason whatsoever to be mad her her, she did nothing to him except move onto sexual adventures ethically. Not even cheating on him, but doing it in divorce… how are you able to view this woman as a wrongful person at all, in the slightest?

Listen, guys. NEVER GET MARRIED! Marriage is totally unnecessary and is designed to only benefit the woman. Don't do it. Have relationships, but never bind yourself to someone for life with a government contract.
Getting officially married is mostly symbolic today. The courts tend to look at shared legal and financial responsibilities when a separation occurs. There was an interesting court case a while ago, even though the two partners lived apart in separate homes, they shared enough responsibilities over a period of time to be deemed in a common law relationship. If you have a child, married or not, common law or not, you will still be legally responsible for child support.

Her daughters [suicide] sounds sketchy to me. Loghan Starbuck’s whereabouts had not been known since Dec. 17 until someone noticed a body in the water Feb. 10 near the Sans Souci mobile home park in Spokane. The office said on its website that Starbuck, a 25-year-old of Cheney, died from “asphyxia due to drowning” and that it was a suicide.
If cops don't want to investigate, they call it suicide so they won't have an open case on their records. Suicide! Case closed! Nothing to see here, folks! I remember a CDC official was found in a river two miles from his home. There was zero evidence he had committed suicide, but immediately that's what it was ruled. Then there was a banking executive shot in the back, shoulder, and head with a nail gun 8 times that was ruled suicide. Some of these might be mob hits that the police are paid not to look into, they're so suspicious.

I can't imagine how her children felt and feel, having to hear of their mother's "behavior". How awful and scarring that must be. Also, the father had so many other ways to deal with this situation. He could have petitioned the court for a freeze on the child support if he was legit ill/injured/out of work. That would have kept the amount from climbing to an insane amount. He also could have gotten an attorney to challenge the massive amount. Thirdly, he could have easily had the mother declared unfit and he would most likely would have been awarded sole custody, if ha had wanted the kids. This is so tragic.
He had so many ways to deal with it…after seeing how they fleeced him the first time. It was $2,500 to get a lawyer to file that paper work 20 years ago. He was broke and disabled, taking care of 2/5 of the kids…people just don’t pay attention to the world around them. I went through that…they do not freeze child support. It becomes arrears, for men anyway. The courts assume you are faking and just pile on the penalties even more if you try that. They did to me several times. The state of California and a licensed MD put it in writing I was disabled. The judge just said too bad. I’ve seen it over and over and over….even when she got into meth and dumped my son on my porch, I had to pay support for three more months. The judge lied and said there was nothing that could be done. They leaned over backwards for her over and over and even with sworn statements from female coworkers and friends they let her do 2 no shows in court, and still “took the matter under consideration”. When I missed one court date out of about 20, I was 15 minutes late, they instituted her requests and sanctioned me. They wouldn’t order her to pay support for 2 more years, and when she wouldn’t pay for another 3 years they never suspended her drivers license. They suspended mine 5 times when I was ACTUALLY PAYING AS ORDERED, twice out of disability (it was garnished by the court). There response when I took the day off work the other three times? “Whoops! Sorry Mr Bowen. Your license will be released after paying this $30 release fee and another $15 to the DMV for reinstatement”. Don’t tell me about options.
My ex wife was on meth, there was proof, and she was never deemed unfit. I wonder if some of this ones male visitors were cops…or judges….easily?!? $2,500 and up for a lawyer to go into court. They basically never find a mother unfit. I’ve seen cases where the mom was on heroin, and that didn’t get her declared unfit. Sometimes even with multiple events involving the police finding the kids alone and unsupervised. They will do ANYTHING to protect a woman, almost no matter what she does.
Don’t forget she has children and friends. Why make up stuff like this about her. No one knows if she was having sex with men she dated. That’s insane. I’ve dated a lot of men and it never went far enough for that to happen. A ex of mine even told my father I was running around with a bunch of men having sex with them. (I couldn’t believe it when my Dad told me this) Men can get so jealous they will resort to murdering a woman or defaming her. Happens all the time & people believe it.

This is a huge problem with police. They ignore or don’t follow up quickly on things like this.

Definitely
He had a right to be angry at Shanon but she didn’t deserve to die. The revenge was not worth throwing his life away and traumatizing his poor children. One of them actually took her own life. So tragic
Such a sad story….🌵
So true 😢
Well generally but it varies. The guy's life probably wasn't going to great at that point anyway, so he figured "what the hell"
@@Cometcast12 This is demonstrably false. I encourage everyone to read the court documents before rushing to the comment section with sensational misinformation...

I just watched a long documentary about this case, and she didn't sleep with all these men. She dated a normal amount of people, most of them meeting them for a coffee, dinner. With a few of them she went further. Her ex (the murderer) went on a real smear campaign against her, and he was really jealous - which is why she ended up dead. Sad to see the label he put out there destroyed her reputation like this, especially since she is no longer here to defend herself.

I don't think he did it. She cheated and even had another man's baby and he didn't even lay a finger on her. But suddenly them being separated and her sleeping with men was the breaking point? Nah doesn't add up at all. She got involved with a random dude she was sleeping with and he did it.
Im always curious about what the police find during the course of the investigation
Here's what they found
Assuming they look at all
whatever they want to find...
If the judge hadn’t awarded her 4700 a month she would probably still be alive.
Omg. She was not a nice lady. I can’t imagine a mother of young girls screwing around with random guys. Very nasty behavior, but did not deserve to be murdered. I feel very sorry for those children.

The fact that the Dad killed her and posed her the way he did? He’s added to his own childrens’ misery and one’s suicide, surely.
@@missJolie85where did the DNA from multiple men come from then?
@@protoman1214 Where did you hear multiple men? From the actual court doc, it was two, and one had familiar DNA with her children, so you can guess who that was. DNA testing of swabs taken from the victim's neck, face, and fingernails revealed that the male Starbuck lineage matched the Y-STR DNA found in those areas. One additional-and unidentified-male contributed Y-STR DNA to Ms. Starbuck's neck.
I guess if you want to count her murderer as one, then she did have multiple DNA
She dated to men a the time, one whom she did have a sexual relationship with John Kenlein, and Tom Walker, a man she had met three weeks earlier, whom she hadn't slept with (only went on dates) and he testified to that.
Thanks for all the great entertainment Dr. Grande!

Listen, guys. NEVER GET MARRIED! Marriage is totally unnecessary and is designed to only benefit the woman. Don't do it. Have relationships, but never bind yourself to someone for life with a government contract.
Yeah, and always wear a condom.
Amen friend.
Add to that kids and cohabitation. Any one of these brings big Daddy government into your life whether you asked for it or not.

It's crazy how they withhold certain information from the juries. I went to jail in the mid 90s for a weapon charge. The person dropped the charges, but the state picked it up. Out of nowhere, they brought up my juvenile record of getting caught skipping school and getting caught out after curfew. They made me sound worse than Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy, combined lol

Suicide by... Drowning in a lake? I call bullshit.
@@atlasveldine6314 IKR.
Wow
@@atlasveldine6314 It's not the most common form of suicide, but people do drown themselves.

@@Cometcast12 yes she did. she was a serial cheater. why do you think they got divorsed twice? Also she was having sex with married men while she was divorsed, that is also adultery.
You sir, are making a lot of assumptions on this one. You may be correct but also wrong! The PD & court system should be ashamed & women should think twice with risky behavior! Sadly we'll likely never know the real true story!
Oh yeah...family court is all about helping out the father, especially in matters of child support and custody.
I didn't know dead people could be embarrassed.
Their ghosts are, and they come back to haunt you for embarrassing them.
"I wouldn't be caught dead doing ..."
