What's the point if you don't show their original accents?
Quinlan Exactly. This video was a huge failure. There are SO MANY clips of each of these people being interviewed on talk shows, etc. This was a sad effort on WM's part.
*****
You made quite the leap there from me saying that this was a "sad effort" to me being "emotionally affected." I am well aware of these people's accents; it makes for a kinda shitty video not to show them to the masses, though.
Quinlan well they do state which country they're each from. Hopefully you know what each accent sounds like yourself.
Reese Williams Well I know yes, but it's another thing hearing the actors themselves in their original accents.
***** You are expecting the lazy shits to use google?
its the same people who ask you stupid questions and when they dont like the answer you lmgtfy it and their minds blow open
They should've included snippets of them speaking in their original voices.
pazzmatt i was thinking the same thing
My thoughts exactly.
My thoughts exactly.
Agreed. Like from talk shows and that
agreed
Why couldn't they show us their real accent after playing a clip with the fake accent

Because copyright
Other honorable mentions: Judy Davis-Australia, Charlize Theron-South Africa, Margot Robbie-Australia, Catherine Zeta Jones-Wales, and Connie Nielson-Denmark.
If you don't know that Hugh Laurie is English, you obviously missed out on Blackadder, one of the funniest sitcoms ever
isthisbetterYT? Well cover me with eggs and flour and bake me for 40 minutes!
isthisbetterYT? And Fry and Laurie! Two very intelligent comedians and a hilarious show
isthisbetterYT? not to mention a bit of fry and laurie.
Kyle Broflovski Personally, I think it got better with every iteration, peaking at Blackadder Goes Forth. But besides maybe the original, they're all great.
Aren't those called 'britcoms'?
Because i hate sitcoms (friends, big bang theory, how i met your mother, etc.)
But i do enjoy britcoms (you rang mylord, little brittain, fawlty towers, etc)
Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman do flawless American accents. So how come they didn't make the list?
Nathaniel Levesque I know right. They made it to #2 and I was all like, "Oh ok, #1 is Gary Oldman". Not even an honorable mention?
Maybe because everyone knows that they are not from usa
Brynjar Reynisson Or the more likely conclusion, this list is poop.
Nathaniel Levesque Oldman should be ahead of all these unknown actors & people that are obviously Australian or English , I only recently found out he wasn't American
Nathaniel Levesque They have both portrayed British characters.
Where the fuck is Gary Oldman on this list? And they have Idris Elba in the fucking thumb nail, which are the only 2 reasons I even came to this shitty ass list.
+LaShanda Parker I was wondering the same thing till I reread the title. Most people know Oldman isn't American. Also, Oldman is number one on the Watch Mojo list that directly talks about accents.
DrAjao Media I guess you're right, though I had no idea he was British, let alone the same guy from the 5th element when watching Harry Potter until I looked him up. I just thought he did a convincing British accent lol. Though I stand by my Idris statement, why have him in the thumbnail, getting more people to click on the video and then not have him listed.
+LaShanda Parker Gary Oldman isnt known as a typical american actor. He's a great actor, but most poeple know he's not american.
+LaShanda Parker Gary Oldman isnt known as a typical american actor. He's a great actor, but most poeple know he's not american.
***** I guess that is more common knowledge now, but back in the day I didn't know his name, I just knew I liked his acting and was surprised when I saw him in Harry Potter and learned that he is british. So if this list was made before Harry Potter and that stupid dark knight series, I don't think I would be the only person surprised to learn his real nationality.
how are you going to have Idris Alba on the thumb nail AND NOT FUCKING MENTION HIM IN THE VIDEO!!
Exactly what I said!!! Not even an honorable mention
Because pretty much everyone knows he's not American.
The very same thing I said to myself, bad job watchmojo
Thank You!
He only gets a cameo at the beginning
Shock horror not every good actor is American
Alex Moss Yeah, but this list is about actors who are great at both acting and giving convincing American accents, and just so happen to be out of the US. Everyone knows Daniel Day Lewis isn't American, but some of these actors have only ever played American characters.
***** not really
Alex Moss Everybody knows this.
***** u have something like 130 million people in your country so there's a higher chance that there's gonna be good actors there but if you look at the amount of stunning actors coming out of new Zealand, Australia and the UK, you'd be surprised to see how many amazing actors they would have if they had as many people living in our country as you(I'm from the UK)
Alex Moss Actually most great actors aren't americans.
I was anticipating Rick Grimes on the list, it absolutely astonished me when I found out he is British.
He's not very good at hiding his accent though
A Hales yes he is
He was in the first couple of seasons but now he's obviously not American
A Hales He's a bad actor as well. Always overacting.
Kurono Sensei It's not that impressive when you think about it, they already speak English, they are just adjusting the inflection. Try learning a new language AND losing the accent....ala Ukrainian MILA KUNIS
Also Margo Robbie needs to be on this list. Had NO idea she was Australian until I finally watched an interview
Toni Collette. She's the queen of accents.
It's even funnier when you consider how long Laurie was a British TV icon with Stephen Fry, and in one interview Fry mentioned that he had to slap him crying "snap out of it man!" when Laurie greeted him in his American accent.
The best thing, is when Laurie speaks in a fake British accent on House, he actually sounds like an American speaking with a fake British accent.
Tim Noth, Hugh Laurie and Gary Oldman fooled this Yankee
I find it strange that when someone has an English accent, Americans call it British but when someone has a Scottish accent they call it Scottish despite the fact that Scotland is part of Britain (along with Wales).
+Retardosaurusrex I was going to say the exact same thing so you've saved me a little time there!
+XZDrake I couldn't tell you were anything is in America
+Retardosaurusrex because It used to be England and Scotland.
+Adam Nichols they sound absolutely nothing alike. Irish accents sound much more like Scottish.
+Apocalyptic Gamer "And why should the people believe you. Because, unlike some other robin hoods, I can speak with an English accent."
3:09 The narrator says " sealing stenes" instead of "stealing scenes"
hahaha yeah she does
I noticed that, as well. I had to rewind it to make sure I heard it correctly 😂
Lol good catch
Hahaha I didn't even notice that, nice one xD
You really gotta watch those stene sealer's!
As an Irishman, I thought Aiden Gillen would be on it. The fact that he pulls off a posh English accent on Game of Thrones makes him even cooler. And you could hear the British at times in Charlie Hunnams accent on Sons of Anarchy, especially in the last season.

WatchMojo.com Where is Idris Alba
WatchMojo.com Alright now for top 10 Americans who pulled off amazing Foreign Accents, #1 Johhny Depp, in, a LOT of things. Also Put James Masters in there for his English Spike Voice.
I'm seriously going to unsubscribed if you keep making stupid videos like this
jawed Bye Felicia!
WatchMojo.com I'm done watching your vids. this was the last straw for me (no Idris Alba).

WatchMojo.com It would have been nice to see some of the other roles these characters these people inhabited. I was particularly hoping to see Hugh Laurie's earlier early role as the Prince Regent and George in the Blackadder series, which we Brits know him for more than House
Still not getting cc. I keep trying. No result. Very frustrating.
so basically all the best actors in America aren't American...
#MakeAmericaGreatAgain
Hilarious
I didn't say they weren't good actors. Don't worry, you'll get over it.
Now who's being stupid...
you are so damn right
Half the cast of Band of Brothers was British, notably McAvoy,Fassbender,Pegg and Jamie Bamber.
Anna Paquin's from New Zealand BTW.
Wedge Antilles Fassbender's Irish, ye plank
@Berenice Moran Hes German actually, ye plank
He’s born to German parents, but is Irish
Growing up somewhere doesn't award you that nationality. He was born in Germany. Hes German
@@cameronrobertson1750 He's German-Irish. He was born in West Germany to a German father and an Irish mother, but grew up in Ireland. He's considered an Irishman though. All of his biographies state him as an "Irish actor."
Really odd choice to talk about Rose Byrne's "American accent" in Neighbors, since she play the character naturally as an Australian... Sometimes I think WatchMojo doesn't even watch the show and movies they talk about!
***** Also if you're gonna talk about Christian Bale, why are you only talking about the films where he spends the majority of the time doing that AWFUL Batman growl? Two words: American Psycho
***** also no one cares
ΔTheFallenOakΔ You cared enough to +1 and reply, and that's good enough for me! :)
***** Yea I know they even talked about her being Australian in the movie
***** i didn't +1 you i replied that's all
I always thought it was odd that both Batman and Superman, America's most popular heroes, were both played by British dudes.
Next James Bond will be played by a American
mariogamefreak1 there have been actors who weren't British to play James Bond before btw.. American, Australian....ect
mariogamefreak1 bullshit.
The next bond might be Idris elba... the British black guy.
Bond cannot be a yank!, that's just blasphemy!
GamerDares Wins I think tom hardy would make a good james bond.... maybe if he lost some muscle. also.... can you have a back james bond? idris elba is awesome but still no james bond imo
TheLinkinFest hmmm Tom...i just don't see it.
And America has a black president... a black bond? Why not?
No Daniel Day-Lewis? No Gary Oldman?
Thank you!
Where's Daniel day Lewis from?
ToiletDuck92 England-Ireland
Don't most people know where they're from?
Nobody thinks they are american !!
When I first got into House and then the Walking Dead, it took me a while to get used to Hugh Laurie and Andrew Lincoln as 'Americans', having grown up watching them playing British roles. They pull it off remarkably well.
Fooled me again with the thumbnail. No mention of Idris Elba at all. And how does Gary Oldman not make the list?
The majority of people know he is British, do you even Harry Potter?
Mark Hilbert I didn't...
***** Oldman's accent is so poor to my ears. I can tell he is putting it on. I prefer him to speak naturally in a role. (Zurg being the only exception)
Probably my biggest criticism of Dark Knight would have been him taking me out of the movie every time he talked.
***** Everyone knows he's not American he's fucking Sirius Black!
Funny story! I always thought Gary Oldman was American. When I saw him in the Harry Potter films and even in "Friends", I thought, "Wow! He can really pull off a British accent." So silly of me!!!
I see WatchMojo don't know the difference between Scottish and British :P
Isn't Scotland part of Great Britain? Wouldn't their accent be considered a type of British accent?
Quinlan Scottish people are British...
Jasmin Puente It's so different from the British accent that it really doesn't make much sense to classify it as British.
Jasmin Puente It is part. He's probably Scottish himself and doesn't wanna acknowledge it lol
***** That's what I'm saying. At the honourable mentions they say one actress is Scottish while the English actors are named British. While in fact they should be called English if they are to distinct the accents.
From this vid, you almost get the impression that there weren't any Americans at all on screen during Nolan's Batman trilogy.
Like; Christian Bale=Welsh, Gary Oldman=British, Tom Hardy=British, Heath Ledger=aussie, Caine=british, Cillian Murphey=Irish, Liam Neeson=Irish... (Ofc there were Eckhart, Gyllenhaal, Hathaway and Holmes)
rasmus weber Christian bales English not Welsh
Christian Bale is as British as Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy. If you're going to say Bale is Welsh (and that's debatable), then you have to say Oldman and Hardy are English.
Just feeling in a nit-picky mood! ;)
Neeson is
@flip inheck It would if he had a knighthood. He doesn't.
@flip inheck OBE is not a knighthood mate, that would be a KBE
Lucy Lawless. She has a very strong New Zealand accent.
You know, I bet I could walk up to just about any English speaking Joe or Jane in the UK or Australia and they could do a very acceptable American accent. The US is the entertainment supplier to the world. Joe or Jane hears the accent constantly thru movies and TV shows. It's not that hard to mimic something you hear all the time. Conversely, Americans don't get anything close to that sort of immersion in other accents. So, while it's hard for Americans to do convincing British accents for any length of time, American accents are easier because they know the second they pronounce something wrong, as it doesn't match the constant example of that word that they hear everyday.
OGSpaceCadet I think to sound regional is hard. Most of the people on this list do a flat or southern accent. When it comes to puling off a Boston,Jersey, Minnesota, Louisiana, etc accent it's more difficult. Even with The Walking Dead the script is written phonetically for their foreign actors so they can get the accent down.
OGSpaceCadet Actually no you probably couldn't, just because they hear that accent in movies a lot doesn't mean they can do a convincing accent. It takes more than just hearing it to mimic. You have to have a natural talent to do accents that or live your day to day life around that accent. That's why most of the time actors/actresses have voice coaches to help them learn it.
Jrenyar Well, my old roommate's boyfriend was a Brit with a thick Liverpool accent (like the Beatles) and he had it down. We're a military family, so we've lived and traveled all over the world and have some British and Aussie military friends who tease us with their American accents. Similarly, we've been able to pick up the local accent of wherever we were living after we'd been there awhile. So, it's far from scientific but I think my theory is still a good one.
OGSpaceCadet But it's like you say, you're living in the country for a while so you're around them meaning you'll pick it up. Whilst people who aren't around americans all the time aren't likely to pick it up.
Jrenyar My point is they don't have to be around us because they hear us thru our movies, TV shows, video games, even youtube clips, etc. They are immersed in American accents right in their own living rooms, enough to do a passable accent. Flawless, undetectable, actor - quality? No. But not bad, not bad at all.
Why did you have to specify that someone was Scottish, and then call the next person British? Scotland is Britain.
Errbahdy Scotland is culturally distinct.
Scotland is part of the UK Britain is the actual island of England
Errbahdy because they are two very different accents and the Scottish aren't British they are part of the UK, but they don't like to be attached to Britain.
somali baby Britain is the island of England, Wales AND scotland.
The UK includes Northern Island.
England is not the island as a whole.
Scotland is part of Britain.
They still have different accents.
You missed one from the Mentalist. Owain Yeoman (Wayne Rigsby) who is Welsh with quite a pronounced Welsh accent when you hear him speaking naturally.
Also If you look at Band of Brother at least 6 or 7 of the principle members of easy company are played by British or Irish actors which is probably not too surprising as most of it was shot in England.
Someone who is Scottish is also British watchmojo
This list would be better, if it was about people with English not being their first language.
***** None of them are actually able to convince us they're American.
Sloth from The Goonies Diane Kruger?
Omar Belayachi There's still a hint of German in her accent, although her English is excellent.
Sloth from The Goonies What about Charlize Theron?
***** She also learned English as a child. Does it count if they've lived in America for most of their life?
The British are always the best Americans!
HeyImSnqR yet so few americans can be british
8th wonder of the world they need dialect coaches
8th wonder of the world The only exception is Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady.
Aegon RDJ did ok as sherlock holmes. and i believe the woman in bridget jones is american
8th wonder of the world Yeah, you're right!
Being an Aussie I loved the Aussie's on this list but I'd just like to add 2 more.
Heath Ledger and Hugh Jackman.
Batman, Spider-Man & Superman are British!
+Niels Lauridsen Batman was, now it's Ben Affleck.
+Murphdawg1 gaming "robin get in the wicked bat caaaw!" sorry couldn't help myself.
+Niels Lauridsen and Daredevil :)
+Niels Lauridsen No they are American, the most resent movies are portrait by British actors, whom I guess did found work in their country.
+Feca29ca We're talking about the actors, dear.
Top 10 British actors who you think we probably don't know are British, but we all knew already.
ppauly My thoughts exactly.
ppauly 3 of them were Australian
Wyatt Nite same thing
sam h Typical Canadian thing to say, tee hee
+ppauly
I agree! The only ones I didn't know were British, were the ones I didn't know at all!
I mean, come on- Hugh Laurie, Bale, Lewis...
you guys forgot to mention all the Canadian actors, such as Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Seth Rogan, Rachel Mcadams, Ryan Gosling...
But Canada is in North America...?
Megan Le But not from the USA. They said from the United States of America
Justin Liu Their natural accents are not so different from American.
jmercuryuk No it says both in the title and in the video American not from the United States of America. American includes both peoples from North and South America contrary to popular belief.
Sorry, I see why my comment confused you. That's what I meant. I was replying to Megan Le pointing out that Canada is NOT in the USA. She said Canadians were from North America and I said, "But not from the USA"
I saw Idris in the thumbnail and I was so confused do people seriously not think he's English
Not gonna lie. I thought this was gonna be a list of Canadian actors.
!!! yeah why didn't they include Canadians? people confuse them with americans all the time
look at my comment. I included a comical Canadian actor in it.
+eagle8burger true, Mike Myers, Keanu Reeves John Candy RIP, Lesley Nielson, Stana Katic', Jim Carrey, Ryan Gosling, Pam Anderson, Dan Aykroyd, Donald Sutherland and a lot more, most of them I thought as being US American as the title suggests. As an Englishman, I regard them as Canadian and not as Americans actors
Mike Rourke Ryan Reynolds
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-),yeah Hollywood is full of them
"The Walking Dead" could fill almost half of this list alone. The characters of Maggie, The Governor, Morgan, AND Rick are all played by Brits. As a matter of fact, Lennie James was also a convincing American in "Jericho".
Karen Fahel so a top 10 list can be filled with 3 people? nice logic
BP Mexicanz I said, "almost half", and mentioned 4 people. 4 is "almost half" of 10. Simple math...and simple English.
Karen Fahel Ok so I dont know how but I read that comment completely different. Im going to say I was tired because why not?
BP Mexicanz Works for me.
Karen Fahel Maths - seeing as you are referring to Brits ;-) ha,ha. Sorry *shame face*
Rose Byrn has an Australians accent in neighbours
Lol I know she even is Australian in the movie
Triforce96 Thats what I was saying
A lot of Australians sound American, that or I am just extremely used to bith accents.
They're only referring to the way she says "keep it down"
James Hickey No, no we don't.
you should have shown a clip of each of them talking in their native accent
Hugh Laurie´s Amerian accent is the reason he was cast in House. When the director heard his audition tape he was quoted as saying something along the lines of "Now thats exactly what we want, a real american"
What makes this funny for us it that Hugh Laurie has been a celebrity name in the UK since the 80´s when he had a comedy duo act with Stephen Fry and also appeared in the classic british comedy "Blackadder".
Charlie Hunnam´s first apperance was in a kids TV show called Biker Grove back in the 90´s which was based in Newcastle (or somewhere close). He did attempt a cockney accent in the film Green Street, but it was quite possibly one of the worst accents, ever!!! Would have liked to have seen Eric Bana feature on this list, as I don´t think many people realise he is Australian. And if you haven´t seen the film "Chopper" I highly recommend it!
Anyway, some useless information for you there
Love Laurie in Blackadder as well as in Jeeves and Wooster. He and Fry are quite the comedy legend and are brilliant in every scene together.
Starting to get annoyed with no mentioning of the walking dead and then Andrew Lincoln is given number one. Thank fuck.
Barnan Vant Yeah, you're not the only one.
They could have just put the cast of game of thrones down.... Almost the whole cast is British
What's the video called?
+Christopher Elstob And? The series isn't set in the US.
Ivy Ruonakoski ok ok point made
Yes, I knew that Christian Bale would be on here.
Didn't know about Andrew Garfield though...
Google Andrew Garfield surprise comic con.
Watch 'never let me go'
It's a brittish film based on a novel starring him
Magnificent performance
And you'll cry like a little bitch because of the feels
UnkeptMoss328 Andrew Garfield is technically American-English, he was born in California and has an American father.
UnkeptMoss328 Andrew Garfield shouldn't be on the list. He was born in California and his father is American. He is American-English.
He's has dual nationality status
Kevin McKidd from Grey's Anatomy... Super Scottish
Cary Grant, an Englishman who became an American citizen.Few knew he was actually English.
+Darryl Willett Bob Hope too iirc.
Bob Hope came to America at the age of 4 so I'm not really sure he would have fooled anyone about being "English". Grant was in his mid 30's when he became an American citizen.
im sorry americans, i really dont wanna sound rude but English and Australian actors are taking over hollywood, Michael Douglas a great american actor even said that young americans actors are worried too much about their image and look more than the acting. Actors in Aus and UK are more seriously trained and lol have you guys looked at superhero movies?
Wolverine = Australian, Superman = English, Joker = Australian, Spiderman= English, Batman = English, Daredevil = English, Bane= English, Thor= Australian, Harley Quinn= Australian. Superhero roles are one of the most hardest roles to land and their being played by non americans. Have you guys seen terminator genysis? The main cast isnt even american. lol half the cast on walking dead arent even american i mean ffs the main character is english. Americans actors of course are legendary but theirs no denying that Australian and English actors are killing the game
How about we just take Hollywood over to England?
I think they should rename a part of England Hollywood and us Aussies can actually go there and be recognised as Aussies instead of people being all like "Wait, there from Austria?"
"Australia."
"I wasn't asking you."
Woggy Boy hahah true, i feel like aussie actors need to become so american to the point the public views them as only american because thats the only way we get recognised
Jamestech Exactly! I feel quite annoyed by it.
batman=welsh
Well tell Hollywood to get some talent
What about Hugh Jackman, Jim Carrey, and Martin Short?
Jim Carrey is Canadian, so little to no difference
Danny Caracciolo i dont think anyone knows that hugh jackman isn't australian
seanthebrawn I didn't know until like 2 years ago when i was watching old eps of Saturday Night live on Netflix.
Danny Caracciolo Everyone knows they aren't American. It'd be like putting Russell Crowe in the list.
Which makes it confusing as to why Chirstian Bale is in there. I don't know anyone that thinks he's American.
seanthebrawn isn't australian? Mixed up your words?
Dude I asked my friend what she thought Arnold Schwarzenegger was from and this is what she thought: "his dad was somewhat French, his mom is probably American. What makes her think that is that Arnold has an American name, but his last name is quit different. So maybe his mom is American and his dad might be French! He has a very funny accent mostly of his father, his eyes resemble a blue eyed American. His body is big also resembling a strong person, mostly like Americans for your information, no bragging." And I'm like "BITCH, HES AUSTRIAN. NOT AUSTRALIAN, AUSTRIAN. HES FROM AUSRTIA."
Other notables:
Daniel Day-Lewis (English) - roles as Americans include "Lincoln" and "There Will Be Blood"
Anthony Hopkins (Welsh) - "Nixon" and "The Silence of the Lambs"
Angela Lansbury (English) - "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Murder, She Wrote" television series
Barry Morse (English) - "The Fugitive" television series
Gary Oldman (English) - "JFK" and "The Contender"
American accents are very easy to do for almost all other English speakers, it seems legitimately much harder the other way round. I have 2 half sisters born in England who moved to the USA aged 8 and 6 almost 20 years ago and are now fully American, I can do all manner of American accents including heavy Deep South and Boston like a native would and they can't do English accents at all - not even close. Any American who can pull off a good English accent is highly skilled. In my opinion the hardest accents to get right if you're not from that part of the world are Northern Irish, Glasgow Scottish and Newcastle Geordie.
Ha!
Call me when an American can do an Australian accent without sounding, kiwi... scottish or cockney.
Hint: WE ARE NONE OF THOSE!
Azure I don't believe you can do a deep south and a Boston accent. Maybe you believe you can.
Paul Anthony pfft I'll bet you 50 i can and you'd have no idea.
Paul Anthony I swear I can, I know those 2 accents are tough even for Americans, but my American family lived just outside Dallas for about 7 years and Boston ever since, so I've had a lot of exposure to both accents on visits. Also Boston accents seem to incorporate a lot of sounds that are more English/Irish than the rest of America, like arse and cah, it's not that hard to emulate.
Azure Newcastle Geordie is well hard, I live 20km from there and still can't do it! Glasgow Scotland isn't that difficult though.
why are there people that are listed as being scottish and people that are listed as being british?
do people from the northern sections of the american continent not realise that scotland is part of britain and that british and english are not synonymous?
Mantis Toboggan I guess we will never know! :)
Max Beasty next American I speak to is going to be asked.
Mantis Toboggan Hardly surprising the Americans don't get it. Many people in England can't get their head around the distinction either. I should know, I'm Scottish and I watch the BBC and I constantly hear the contradictions.
Gordon Heaney what is not to get? Britain is Scotland, England and Wales. UK is those I've listed as well as n. Ireland
Mantis Toboggan Yes, I know that but many don't. On British TV, I regularly hear the UK being used when they mean England, England being used when they mean the UK, so it's no wonder most foreigners don't get it.
You forgot Gerard Butler.
The first time I heard Hugh's real accent I was in shock
Sam Ramos
The poor guy was acting for decades before he did House and you never saw any of it?
Nnnoope xD
Not only Christian Bale was not from USA but also Heath Ledger.
Batman Begins was almost an exclusively British cast. Batman, Alfred, Ducard, Gordon, Scarecrow and Falcone; all Brits. Only Fox and Rachael out of the main cast were American. The films were even directed by a Brit.
Sorry to comment on your post but, the guy who plays Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy) is Irish.
crimsonraven No need to apologise, and you're right. He's a great actor too. Ireland is part of the British Isles, but not part of Great Britain.
Ducard, played by Liam neeson is northern irish, which is part of the u.k but not of Britain:)
***** Cillian isn't from Northern Ireland. I wasn't referring to Northern Ireland. Sorry for the confusion.
Mate, Northern Ireland is part of Britain, its just not part of Great Britain
Gary Oldman. I knew he was British before I saw him in American fims. He can do any US accent. I heard somewhere, maybe you all, he he has to have a voice coach just to get his original accent back on track.
I have a few that should have made the list;
Alex O'Loughlin - Australian (Steve McGarret - Hawaii Five 0)
Eamonn Walker - English (Wallace Boden - Chicago Fire)
Jesse Spencer - Australian (Matthew Casey - Chicago Fire)
Kevin McKidd - Scottish (Owen Hunt - Greys Anatomy)
Camilla Luddington - English (Jo Wilson - Greys Anatomy)
I also have to give massive props to James Masters, who fooled millions into believing he was English during his 11 season run as Spike on Buffy and Angel. He was actually born in California.
Kudos also to Mr Robin Williams, a man who could get you to believe he was from just about anywhere.
I'm sure this was already mentioned in a previous comment here, but you featured Iridis Elba in clips early in the video, but not even give him an honorable mention. You mentioned every other fucking British actor on the planet who plays American on the damn list, so one more would've broken your back?
British actors are the best. Tom hardy, Daniel Craig, Gary Oldman, Jason stathem, Christian bale, Michael Caine and Daniel Louis
Then why show him, if you don't intend to mention him?
***** They do that on every countdown...is this the first video you've watched? They go though a variety of people/places/clips that _could_ be on the list, but not all of them are.
Should've played clips of them talk in their own accent in interviews or something.
Chiwetel Ejiofor would be pleasant fitting for the list or an honourable mention.
hold on you say Scotish for Scotland but British for England. Ok living in England myself I get used to saying I'm British (which is true but applies to the whole of the U.K./ Great Britain) but I still know my nationality is still technically English.
Normally I would say the same thing, that was based on some responses I gotten from Scotish and Welsh people on the subject.
+robhigg2203 Your answer and your argument nailed it. I do care, actually.
+Alfonso Parrado C'mon i've already seen you in other three comments. Stop meddling. Anyway, thanks a lot for the fact. Have a wonderful rest of the day!
+Alfonso Parrado Ok so just fuck off then... 🤔🙄
If the Scottish don't want to be part of the UK then they have a funny way of showing it, given that they joined voluntarily, and recently voted to remain too.
They're all Bitish and Australians. How about Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal? or Marion Cotillard? Charlize Theron?
samgar2 Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal were born in America tho. And I think everyone knows Marion Cotillard is French.
Maximusringrock Their father has swedish descent tho.
Crystalsora Yeah but the list is about actors who specifically aren't american.
samgar2 I think Charlize Theron is an American citizen now?
samgar2 You can easily tell Marion Cotillard is not American. You can make a case for Charlize Theron though.
Maximusringrock That means nothing, Jake & Maggie were born and raised in the US. They are American.
it honestly frustrates me so much how ignorant americans are to the fact that Scotland and wales are all technically in Britain (not that we particularly want to be) yet a british accent is an English accent, a trip to Britain is a trip to England and a british actor is an English actor I mean get your facts right
Joe Cameron To be fair, WatchMojo is Canadian, but you're right.
Prophet MoHAM Sandwich oh i didn't realise
Joe Cameron actually Northern Ireland isn't in Britain.
tomroberts1992 I know it's uk
Well you do technically want to be.
Have Americans never heard of Blackadder?
If they had I'm sure they'd be better at sarcasm than they are
Mr. Bean!!!!
Laurie’s accent actually does very briefly break in the 2nd episode of House, but he’s otherwise perfect. Part of what makes it my favorite show is just the sheer dedication by the actors to portraying those characters to a T.
I'm pretty sure rose Byrne played an Australian in neighbors.
She is really Australian tho
Yeah I know but narrator lady said she played an american in neighbors
Sorry I misunderstood
It's fine
Van Damme from Belgium , Arnold from Austria , Stalon from Italy .
Arnold can't do any accent and sound Austrian.
Ava Barry
Austria the speak German
***** Stallone is American born, Van Damme is known as 'The Muscles from Brussels' and nobody alive thinks Arnold is American born.
***** Arnold really! he's a good actor but he cant put on an American accent
Wyatt Nite true
Why isn't Chiwetel Ejiofor on the list?
Because everybody knows he's not american
Kelly McDonald who plays Carla Jean Moss, the wife of Josh Brolin's character in 'No Country For Old Men' is from Scotland and does an excellent American accent (you might remember her from 'Trainspotting'). On the flipside, Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister in 'Game Of Thrones' does an amazing English accent (or Westerosi accent) and he is from New Jersey, USA.
would Karl Urban count? he plays southern as heck Dr McCoy in the Star Trek movies but he is actually Australian
Caridad Chang actually he is from New Zealand
fireblazed thanks, I guess he still counts
Caridad Chang Karl as McCoy is the only good thing about the Abrams Treks.
Caridad Chang Karl urban is a kiwi.
New Zealand is literally two separate islands just off the coast of Australia.
GamerDares Wins To be fair, Australia is seen as both a country & continent, albeit the latter also bearing the name Oceania.
Why wouldn't you show what they actually sounds like...
Sound*
Purple Penguin Because they only speak with an American accent in the show. They don't use their real accent in the show. How are you not understanding this?
I mean in like an interview or something. Not in the show/movie
Purple Penguin
Well if the see the interview, of course they would know. But this is only for people that watch the show. But, even in an interview, some may still not use their accent. Mila Kunis might be from Russia, but she doesn't have an accent in interviews. She's lived her long enough to have lost it. It's the same thing with Gary Oldman. Gary Oldman lost his English accent because he's been here so long.
Right but at least people like Christian Bale who do have accents
Damien Lewis was amazing in "The Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King. He used an American and English accent in the movie.
I can think of a few. Anthony LaPaglia, born in Australia, played FBI Special Agent Jack Malone in WITHOUT A TRACE. Alex O'Loughlin, also born in Australia, currently playing Steve McGarrett in the modern era HAWAII FIVE O. And how about Seth Rogen, born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, starring in such films as FORTY YEAR OLD VIRGIN, KNOCKED UP, etc
I almost forgot another. Jane Seymour, born in England but lived in the U.S. for many years. And early film role for her was Miss Solitare in LIVE AND LET DIE, 1973. She also played a frontier doctor in DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN in the early 2000s.
Charlie Hunnam should have been more than an honorable mention
Most Brits can do a Southern US accent better than an American not from the South. Our Southern accents have inflections that are similar to many of the English inflections so they just have to slow it down and change it up just a tad
Andrew Lincoln, David Morrissey and Lennie James have definitely proved that on The Walking Dead.
Speaking of which, WHY are none of these actors on this list? I'd have thought you'd at LEAST be aware of Andrew Lincoln.
Jennifer Brewer
I agree, I don't know why they didn't include any of them
Beat me to it.
Jennifer Brewer it’s oppressing London lol (for any one serious it’s a joke) 🤣
Will Poulter (We're the Millers, The Maze Runner): Watching the special features on the Maze Runner DVD, it was quite a surprise to hear his native British accent.
And don't forget, Hugh Laurie also played American in Stuart Little.
When Baker says "wall" you can hear his accent at 3:39. The first time I saw Charlie Hunnan was on SOA and it was very obvious to me he wasn't American. His accent would come out all the time during the show.
did they just put scottish and british into different categories?
Matty Reymoor different accents so... 69i57.5488j0j4&client
lars Olofsson not different accents:
Great britain (British)=Scotland, Wales, England
Matty Reymoor many Americans think that British = English. You'll notice that they never say "I love English accents", only "British".
+cosmogreenpaws and when they say accents they mean London smh
@Branon Fontaine, And most Yanks have never set foot in Scotland or seen a Scottish person in their life, they just watch Braveheart and Grioundskeeper Willie. Same reason the Irish dislike Americans, always claiming to be Irish evern though you have never been there and only think your Irish because you wear green once a year and drink Guinness once a blue moon and maybe your postmans grandad was Irish lol
James McAvoy is a brilliant actor, and has the ability to achieve different accents. Not even a honorable mention, therefore shame on you.
Austrian actress Hélène Joy has been playing Canadian doctor Julia Ogden on "Murdoch Mysteries" for 13 years. This canadian TV police drama set I. Toronto at the end in the XIXth century and the beginning of the XXth is seen in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Hugh Laurie's accent to this day surprises me, I grew up watching him on comedy shows with Stephen Fry, and it's about as polarising as his House voice as you can get.
Most of the list didn't surprise me as I have watched most of them in shows from their native country.
Better name for this list: Top 10 Actors You Never Heard Of.
angelthman If you have never heard of any of these actors you need to brush up on your films and actors.
BP Mexicanz
I know about 3 of them.
angelthman let me guess: batman, superman and spiderman? you're like the comic book guy from the simpsons..."worst. list. ever."
BP Mexicanz You mean brush up on your television. A bunch of these don't feature much in film.
Marco Klaue Yeah thats true
Technically Andrew Garfield is American. He was born in America and has an American citizenship but he grew up in England and is also a citizen of England.
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT
yea he is basically both english and american, his born in the US grew up in england, his dad american and mum english.
His natural accent is English tho
We need a part 2 of this there's more actors and actresses missed on this list
When Charlize Theron does a US accent in numerous films we could forget that she's from South Africa.
People actually think Hugh Laurie is American...? He's like the most English person I could think of after Stephen Fry.
What about Nichols Holt, Hugh Jackman, Liam Hemsworth, or John Boyega
Alex WAllar John boyega is so clearly British, his first lead role was as a British chat, he was in a british production star wars, who thinks he's American
who thinks Hugh Laurie is American? its the same as thinking john Cleese or Stephen fry are American, before he was house he was black adder, Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster
8:37
I'm detecting a hint of British there when Hugh Laurie says 'Puzzle' :)
Great list, inspite of forgetting about several swedish names along with names like Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass in gossip girl.
You should have mentioned Rosamund Pike! Her NY accent was perfect in Gone Girl.
Aegon Her American accent in Doom xD
***** Ikr?!? XD
Aegon She was in Die Another Day and Johnny English which is why a lot of people know she is British.
thomsboys77 Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about her in Die Another Day tbh!
An American "Southern" Accent is actually a BRITISH accent, "Y'all not from around these here parts." is 100% British and exactly how British people sounded and spoke 150years ago... the British change their accent with their fashions.. in other words.. to follow the ruling monarchy... they always have and always will.. from Charles I, to Victoria, to Elizabeth II.
Brit here. Hats off to those guys; they do a fantastic job at the American accent. I always find American accents to be incredibly difficult to consistently and convincingly pull off. The inflections and stresses are so different from ours that when most people try it, they sound ridiculous. And maybe it's because I'm not Australian so I notice it more but those Aussie actresses, I clearly noticed their aussie accent coming through. Even if I didn't know this was a video of non-Americans, if I heard them, I would've paused and questioned their nationality. I didn't know the kick-ass dude was a Brit though, his accent was flawless as far as I can tell.
1.Yael Stone
2.Stephen Moyer (England)
3.Rose Byrne (Australia)
4.Simon Baker (Australia)
5.Christian bale
6.Taylor Johnson
7.Damian lewis (England)
8.Isla fisher (Australia)
9.Hugh Laurie (Britain)
10.Andrew lancon
When you say British do you mean he is from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales because Britain is made up of four countries because I find it a bit offensive not to say there own country
jacob stokes Since they separated British, Welsh and Scottish, I assume British just meant English
jacob stokes To pick hairs it's the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland... technically Northern Ireland isn't in Britain
Northern Ireland is British it's the Republic of Ireland thats not
jacob stokes Look at a British passport it has it right there. I am not trying to get into a religion debate though with Catholics saying Irish and Protestants saying British
ThatPoshBoy Northern Ireland can be called British because the group of islands are called the British Isles. In fact the original name for the largest island is Albion.
the fuck is the point in this list when you don't even show any of the actors speaking in their native accents, I mean what the fuck, where's the logic.
+Rosie J what difference would it make? if people think they're American but they're not then that's the point.
A lot of them may have lost their accents.
Daniel sharman ❤️❤️ too attractive for the screen with so much acting talent and a killer American accent.
Johnny Lee Miller from Elementary can do just about any accent. He did a Scottish accent in Trainspotting that actually fooled my friend who's from Scotland.
