Ledger’s death was an incalculable loss to cinema. I’m the son of a cattle rancher and was born and raised in a rural community exactly like that depicted in Brokeback Mountain. Watching Ledger’s performance in that film sent chills down my back. I’d known first-hand many people, my father and male relatives among them, exactly like Ennis. He nailed it in a way I’d never before seen in a movie. And I’m 66 years old, so I’ve been watching films a LONG time.
I'm not much of a movie buff and I have a (admittedly morbid) fascination with serial killers. The think is that this list is about actor whom a ton of people didn't believe they would pull off a known (or established) character. For Sin City, the graphic novel and movie weren't that well known at the time. But still, people found it weird to cast Elijah Wood as that f***ed up character, and the mofo pulled it off! Creeped the f*** out of me in the theater! And about Leo Dicaprio in Django Unchained, it wasn't a known character at all. Original stuff from QT's screwed up brain. And honestly, I'm not sure about what most people think, but I've always thought that QT can make actors play anything we cant expect from them. Like Leo, Travolta in Pulp Fiction, and I want Tom Hanks in a QT movie in a never seen type of role! Cheers from France guys! 🍻
PoderosoAnime3103 Of course. Back when I heard this, I was like "The guy from '10 Things I Hate About You' is gonna be the Joker" I was like "WTF?!" I have never been so glad to be proven wrong. Anyone who says this was not a phenomenal performance is an idiot. Jack was amazing but it was also a Tim Burton film which was made to be somewhat comedic. Ledger's portrayal definitely keyed in on the dark side of the Joker.
***** Amen to that one. Jack Reacher, characterised as very tall, blonde and war worn. Whoever thought Tom Cruise - being short, dark and remnants of a pretty boy face - was a good fit needs firing. The Jack Reacher series had the potential to be a MASSIVE franchise due to the quality and amount of source material. They stick Cruise in it and it bombs. Lee Child is a fantastic author.
Delilah Winchester think someone has missed the point on 'surprisingly bad choices'. This would imply that Tom Cruise was seen as a GOOD fit for the role when announced, but ultimately disappointed at release.
Daniel Elsegood Oh for the love of the sky god - you are right! I really shouldn't post online after I have had my meds in the morning. Think I will just bugger off over to the corner and feel foolish all by myself now!
Daniel Elsegood NO! I was being genuine, not being a dick. It is just the language I use when I speak, that is all (and I have had my meds this morning, pain ones!). Please don't think I am being a moron as it isn't intentional if it is coming across that way.
Delilah Winchester Now now, let's not put Lee Child up on a pedestal, because it's undeserved. His novels are pulp material at best; there's nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't call him a fantastic author.
442hoeky Before Die Hard? You've got The Deadly First Sin, A Guru Comes, The Verdict, The Return of Bruno, Blind Date and Sunset. TV BEFORE Die Hard was literally one episode of Miami Vice and Twilight Zone and what you said. Not really linked with 'romcoms' at that time is he.
***** Anyone can look up his obscure movies on IMDB/Wikipedia now, but at the time he was in the mainstream for starring in Moonlighting and Blind Date. Big surprise when he was cast in an action movie and pulled it off. Alls I'm saying.
List is on point with two glaring exceptions: Tom Cruise was awful as Lestat; and Jim Carrey is awful in absolutely everything he does, especially The Truman Show. Embarrassing that he's on this list.
Clark Vaughan Me too that and Collateral. Because at the time Jamie Foxx was more know for his Comedy then anything else but to dive into 2 big Dramatic roles in the same year is truly amazing.
The late John Ritter in Slingblade (best known from Threes Company, and other Sitcoms, in the 1980s) as the sympathetic, gay Dollar store Manager. was so good and convincing that you didn't even recognize him.
Very true!! I didn't realize he was in "Sling Blade" until I was watching the credits. Then I said, "Wait a minute!! I didn't see John Ritter in this movie!"
@@cathyfreeze3381 I was extremely fortunate to be at the North American Movie Premiere of Slibgblade at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago in October, 1996, as part of the Chicago Film Festival. I got to meet both Billy Bob & Dwight Yoakam who were both part of the viewing audience for like 10 minutes each. Dwight Yoakam is a very short man and it is a surprising that he keeps getting cast as inposing villains. It is a very happy film school memory.
Tom Cruise in Interview OMG talk about crush! He was fenomenal!! He has done quite a few films where he has totally deserved an oscar and Interview is one for me. One of my favorite movies of all time. I whish this Tom coud be back....
Worth mentioning the effect 'Brokeback Mountain' had on people's perceptions of Ledger heading into the Joker role. He'd embodied that character so effectively that at the time, few could picture him as such an edgy, raw Joker. What a great transition, by a great actor.
there are so more: audrey hepburn as holly in breakfast at tiffany’s, adam sendler in uncut gems, hugh jackman as wolverine, Dakota Johnson in suspiria…
First time I saw "Monster", I was impressed with Theron's portrayal. You actually hated her, she played her so well. Plus, to have to make up Theron to look so nasty just added to the part. Well done all around.
I've consistently heard so many variations on the subject of how long she spent in make-up 2 -6 hrs !? some wonderful performances here !! RENE zellwegger surprises with a sweet performance and Albert BROOKS was definitely snubbed for his role !!
That's one of things I like about her, she usually dedicated to the part she chooses. So had long time confirmed how good she was.. Then some movies such as Aeon Flux, Atomic blonde and Tully keep showing it
Chris Evans had the "Michael Keaton effect" on me when he was announced as Captain America/Steve Rogers. Despite my initial skepticism, he turned out great for the role.
Gotta give number one to a guy whose part killed him. One performance that stands out for me was in an old movie called "The Loved One" starring Robert Morse. Liberace made a brief appearance as a funeral director and was spot on in every single detail. Laurence Olivier also received praise for being cast as a second-rate vaudevillian in "The Entertainer". He said it was his most difficult role.
Charlize Theron totally fitted the part of Aileen Wuornos in Monster. She's a very great actress! I don't know of what other actress who could have done better for that movie role. Michael Keaton also did good in Batman. Keanu Reeves was pretty good in Speed. Heath Ledger was also great as the Joker as well as many other movies such as Brokeback Mountain. I wish Heath Ledger was still alive.
+biffyqueen i guess JJ is to blame for not knowing that Vulcans are supposed to express almost no emotion, him always easy to stir up and screaming doesn't fit
+biffyqueen Well, this list isn't about controversy. Quinto definitely belongs on this list, like it's said in the video, him being cast in one of the most iconic sci-fi series the most acknowledged character, with him lacking big movies experience, it was a blind shot. Blind shot that repaid in full, I can hardly think of anyone better for that role.
+Dummie Account I get it...my best friend had the same complaint. However, don't forget that in this timeline, his whole planet was destroyed and his mother murdered (as opposed to the original StarTrek universe)...I'd say he has cause to have his emotions closer to the surface...
I might pretty much have a surprisingly good casting choice for my own taste: Ashton Kutcher as Steve Mariott from the 70`s rock band, the Small Faces. I`ve opted to direct a biopic of the Small Faces and chose pretty much a few English/British actors but I chose a NON English actor for the part of lead singer,Steve Mariott: Ashton Kutcher. I sometimes scratch my head whenever someone complains why an American is doing a British or European role but rarely complains when a British or European does an American role???
Leonardo Dicaprio as Arnie grape in "Whats eating gilbert grape" should've been on here. He plays a mentally ill boy and when he showed up to the academy awards, people were surprised that he wasn't actually mentally ill.
My first thought is, Brits always seem upset about casting non Brits (Bridget Jones), but if someone gets upset about casting a Brit for an American role, it's a backlash of whining :p
I'm thinking of Henry Cavill as Superman for that one. Plus, I always found it amusing that they cast 2 Australian actors (Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger) as the two leads in The Patriot.
I think you will find the only "Brits" who get upset by Yanks playing Brits (and vica versa) are obsessive nutters and/uppity critics with nothing better to do, normal people could not care less. I'm English and don't care who plays what provided the basic physical/gender requirments are met (such as a white male playing Bond or a Black male playing Mr T) and the actor does a believable accent. Otherwise go nuts!
+Brand X yes and like I said in my comment stated before the actor should have the correct physical attributes to be true the character IF they have been clearly defined by an author etc. Bond is a white Scottish male in the books so a white male should play him.
Although Heath Ledger earns the number one spot on this list, The Dark Knight made an equally bad casting choice when they brought on Maggie Gyllenhaal.
When I go back to watch the first Nolan Batman movie, it is excruciating to watch the likes of Sir Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, and Christian Bale having to act with the likes of Katie Holmes, who if it weren't for the fact that she was married to Tom Cruise, would just be that chick from Dawson's Creek. Also, in Batman Begins, her co-stars have to carry her because she's no where close to the level of talent of the others in the cast.
Have to disagree with this. I usually don't like recasting but I was thrilled when they did with that character. It's still a "damsel in distress" character, but Maggie gave her a solidity and strength to a minor character that Katie NEVER did.
Marc Lewis well watchmojo is a canadian company, and no, she sounds canadian, though maybe thats just because americans and canadians sound almost exactly the same most of the time
My Top 10 Best Casting Decisions of All Time 10. Timothèe Chalamet as Paul Atreides 9. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman 8. Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean 7. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter 6. Johnny Depp as Icabod Crane 5. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka 4. Michelle Pifeffer as Selina Kyle/Catwoman 3. Wean McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi 2. Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker 1. Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Something to be said for the make up artist on Monster too. In the case of Star Trek, it was more that lots of people were against the very idea of recasting TOS. Most of those people remain unconvinced.
Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone - The Godfather, Steve Carell as John du Pont - Foxcatcher, Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man - Spider-Man and Bruce Willis as John McClane - Die Hard.
Bob Mob maybe 20 years ago. over time, he ended up committing the ultimate sin as an actor, which is having your real life antics overshadow your acting. these days, it's very hard to look at tom cruise in any movie and not see the real batty tom cruise rather than the character he's playing.
Rebazar agree to an extent. however in his inside the actors studio interview for example he came off incredibly well, changed/balanced my perspective on him
Bruce Dern played freeman Lowel as an enviromental activist(Silent Running), When he usually plays the bad guys. Dern"I've played more dopers, degenerts and pyschos then anyone else in hollywood." Almost no one thought he could pull it off at the time. . And now it is the movie he is most remembered for.
+lastofmykind8 That's a great call. People tend to forget that Downey was damaged goods back then. He was definitely on the comeback trail, but his career was suffering. Somebody gambled, and was dead on when casting him as Tony Stark...Of course, the rest speaks for itself.
+NightMan77 We have Jon Favreau to thank for RDJ as Tony Stark. Marvel Studios didn't want him in the role AT ALL. Jon said most of RDJs missteps have been in the public eye and that would help him in the role. It was a huge toss up to see if he would work. But boy did it work.
Tom Cruise as LeStat is my favourite surprisingly good casting choice. I was appalled when he was cast, but after seeing him play the role, I couldn't see any way it could have been done better. Heath Ledger was equally amazing as The Joker, but I don't see why anyone would have doubted that he would be.
Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind"----big uproar when she, a Brit, was chosen to play the iconic southern belle. She was a perfect choice even lauded so by the author Margaret Mitchell.
I didnt like him as wilson. His face seemed sad or confused unlike the confidence and aristocratic portrayal of him in the comics and the 90's spider-man cartoon. He definitely had the aesthetic tho.
Ozymandias If you include TV mini-series, I would like to add Rob Lowe as Nick Andros in "The Stand". When I first heard, I was like, "What?" But he did a really good job in the part. I didn't like him before; I did after.
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. I was shocked by the casting then further shocked by how well it worked. Love Craig as Bond. FYI, in the books Bond is described as not very attractive.
Caridad Chang If they changed her more to how she is in the books yes, but it seemed to me that they changed Katniss for her, not the other way round like Charlize Theron with her's. (I know her's was based on a real person, but the drift is the same)
Charlize Theron will forever be my favourite for her role in Monster, what a transformation, she really did look like the woman she portrayed, to take a chance on a role that had nothing to do with her looks was amazing and she made it legendary.
As a French person, it is my duty and pleasure to tell you (the narrator) that you were able to pronounce « Lestat de Lioncourt » very decently indeed, especially for a native English speaker, I wouldn’t have minded if you’d pronounced it wrong but you did good, well done!
John Jarratt in Wolf Creek: he used to be on Better Homes & Gardens and is the knockabout Aussie larrakin you could have a beer with. He used that larrikin image and then dialled up the horror as Mick Taylor. The scariest thing about Mick was he could turn from your best mate to your worst enemy so quickly, and he had that evil Freddy Krueger-like laugh. The role turned Jarrett into a horror icon and a regular on the comic book/pop culture festival circuit.
+Badda Bingeling Yeah, he pretty much surprised everybody who saw the movie with his portrayal. In fact, even Doug "Nostalgia Critic" Walker was surprised as well, he even said so when he did his first Old vs. New portion of his show where he paired off Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. In fact, he considered Michael Keaton to be a better Batman than Christian Bale and Heath Ledger as a better Joker than Jack Nicholson.
Kate Speaks finally someone else who's pointing that out ! I agree 100℅ with you, he should have been on the list (at least in the Honorable mentions )
Christopher Waltz in Inglorious Bastards Michael Caine in Zulu Christian Bale in American Psycho Tom Hiddleston as Loki Chris Evans as Captain America Jonah Hill as Donny Azoff In Wolf of Wall Street Robert Carlye Trainspotting Dev Patel in Slum Dog Millionaire Harrison Ford as Hans Solo Just a few to think about for another list :)
I'm seeing some demands here to see Charlize Theron's Aileen at numero uno, but as a fan of both Theron & Ledger, I have to say Ledger's performance in Dark Knight edges Theron by quite a margin. Ledger's performance as The Joker was unimaginable...too good that you could feel goosebumps seeing some of the uniqueness he showed in the movie. Sadly it killed him....
Kathleen Turner who was cast as Maddie Walker in Body Heat, a role that most believed would have suited Morgan Fairchild better. From the opening scene on the jetty, however, Kathleen's voice, her sidewise glances and innocents made the reveal even sweeter.
Leonardo DiCaprio in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Absolutely fantastic so much so that people actually gave kudos to the director for casting a developmental disabled in the role, not realizing it was just Leo acting damn good in the movie.
so true, thought so, too
One of my favorites.
I agree Leo's best work even better than his Oscar winning role in "The Revenant"
the Oscars - often not exactly a benchmark for excellent acting:)
Retardo Di Caprio LOL
But he's usually really good. I was skeptical about him playing Jim Carroll but he nailed it.
To be fair Rene Zellweger's English accent is one of the most natural I've heard from an American - and I'm a Brit
+EASYTIGER10 I thought she was British for years after I saw the film.
+EASYTIGER10 Can't argue there, but what about RDJ's accents in "Sherlock Holmes" and "Chaplin"?
+EASYTIGER10 WHAT??? As a Londoner I disagree wholeheartedly. It's a terrible accent that no real people have.
+EASYTIGER10 It's not as good as Gwyneth Paltrow's though.
+Rosie J LOL. Jealous much. It probably sounds better than your accent.

I wish Heath Ledger was still alive. So much potential for more awesome roles.... :(
Agreed it would have been awesome to see him in a Quentin Tarantino film
True, he was really just getting started on the big roles. Would have had a very illustrious career.

@@DarthWinterMadness I was going to think of putting Leonardo from Django Unchained on here, anyway, in case, he wasn't.
Obviously Heath Ledger as the Joker is the No. 1 Right?
PoderosoAnime3103 I dont know man, jack nicholson made an outstanding performance in the 1989 batman movie
WOLF Yeah but Nicholson was always going to be good so doesn't fit the criteria
***** Good point
Probably the greatest role I've ever seen in a movie
PoderosoAnime3103 Of course. Back when I heard this, I was like "The guy from '10 Things I Hate About You' is gonna be the Joker" I was like "WTF?!" I have never been so glad to be proven wrong. Anyone who says this was not a phenomenal performance is an idiot. Jack was amazing but it was also a Tim Burton film which was made to be somewhat comedic. Ledger's portrayal definitely keyed in on the dark side of the Joker.
Now.....surprisingly bad choices (;
Bruce Willis in Die Hard, previously known for romantic comedy roles.
GutznMetal I personally wouldn't say that no, he was only in what, 10 films? Before Die Hard, he hadn't cemented the 'romcom' label if you get me
442hoeky Before Die Hard? You've got The Deadly First Sin, A Guru Comes, The Verdict, The Return of Bruno, Blind Date and Sunset. TV BEFORE Die Hard was literally one episode of Miami Vice and Twilight Zone and what you said. Not really linked with 'romcoms' at that time is he.
***** Anyone can look up his obscure movies on IMDB/Wikipedia now, but at the time he was in the mainstream for starring in Moonlighting and Blind Date. Big surprise when he was cast in an action movie and pulled it off. Alls I'm saying.
GutznMetal They aren't his 'obscure' movies, there were HIS ONLY MOVIES BEFORE DIE HARD
Which hardly anyone had heard of... hence obscure.
Charlize Theron as Aileen Wournos absolutely defines the title of this video. She should have been number 1 on your list.
I think Kirsten Dunst easily stole the show in Interview with a vampire.
She was I that?
List is on point with two glaring exceptions: Tom Cruise was awful as Lestat; and Jim Carrey is awful in absolutely everything he does, especially The Truman Show. Embarrassing that he's on this list.
I agree.
Good observation.
@ She said she thought that was the grossest part.
Michael Keaton as Batman or Bryan Cranston as Walter White
***** 'movie'
***** *Facepalm* Read the title of the video to see why your suggestion of Bryan Cranston is really really dumb
I'm sorry I didn't notice "movie" in the title. o_o didn't know selective reading would mean I'm a moron.
***** You make one little mistake and everyone starts kicking you in the nuts, that's youtube for ya...
***** Maybe Walter White is for another video, but I agree, Malcolm in the Middle's dad? WTF???
Heath ledger was the best movie joker since jack Nicholson. Period.
Ledger was 3x better than Nicholson.
He was the only movie Joker after Jack Nicholson. Not counting animated films. You ignorant like-seeking inbred.
David Shultz arguably better than Nicholson. Also, he was the ONLY movie joker after Nicholson you dumb fuck.
JKisFuture Ranger If you didn't understand he was joking, then I think YOU are the ignorant one.
enhancedcalm Ledger was the better Joker; Nicholson is the better actor
Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles. I'm still awed by that one. He killed that part.
Clark Vaughan Me too that and Collateral. Because at the time Jamie Foxx was more know for his Comedy then anything else but to dive into 2 big Dramatic roles in the same year is truly amazing.
Clark Vaughan My favourite Foxx film is Django unchained brilliant acting
He was good in "Law abiding citizen" as well.
Charlize was insanely amazing as Aileen Wournos. I couldn't believe how good she was.
I didn't see John Ritter in this movie!"
i agree, but all 3 main guys in sling blade were that unexpectedly good, imho. Dwight as the bully and Billy Bob as a sweetheart? All 3 were genius.
Have you read the book? Your opinion would change
Cruise was epically wrong for that part. How he's on this list in asinine. Ppl use that performance as a punch line.
@Christine Pattison Oh, calm down!! There is certainly no reason to hate someone that you don't even know. It makes you look ridiculous.
I think this list has been over-thought; Charlize Theron in Monster should be #1
jckclnick1 I was going to say that. I'm happy someone else said it though!
jckclnick1 She should've at least been number 2. I'd say her and Ledger are tied for first. They were both incredible
I agree. No bigger surprise than her!
Um no Heath deserves #1
@@shanehennenhoefer9881 Exactly.
Then some movies such as Aeon Flux, Atomic blonde and Tully keep showing it
michael keaton is THE BEST batman :)
also an honourable mention for Chris Evans as captain america, he bulked up good!
Chris Evans had the "Michael Keaton effect" on me when he was announced as Captain America/Steve Rogers. Despite my initial skepticism, he turned out great for the role.
John Travolta - Pulp Fiction
How did they not include this one??
Tajmil Warsalee
IKR
+Shag Swag What why?
+jetser24 Props. Taking the dancing disco man john Travolta and casting him as a heroine addict hitman cool guy was ballsy.
+jetser24 Props. Taking the dancing disco man john Travolta and casting him as a heroine addict hitman cool guy was ballsy.
Charlize was great in monster.
I think amy Adams would have been great for the part too.
I want a TV show version of this list so I can see Bryan Cranston as Walter White at number one.
YES!!!
James Gandolfini
@@hollanti1237 I wouldn't call that surprising, guy was just an incredible actor period.
Quinto never seemed controversial to me
I agree! He is an excellent actor and practically the clone of late Leonard Nemoy so who else would have done the job better?
+biffyqueen i guess JJ is to blame for not knowing that Vulcans are supposed to express almost no emotion, him always easy to stir up and screaming doesn't fit
Dummie Account But part of Spock's character is the struggle of emotion thanks to his human side.
Daniel Craig killed it! He honestly became my favorite Bond. Casino Royale in my opinion is the best Bond movie
Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor
Not from a movie, but Hugh Laurie as House in House MD
Micheal Caine as Garth in Second Hand Lions
I might pretty much have a surprisingly good casting choice for my own taste: Ashton Kutcher as Steve Mariott from the 70`s rock band, the Small Faces. I`ve opted to direct a biopic of the Small Faces and chose pretty much a few English/British actors but I chose a NON English actor for the part of lead singer,Steve Mariott: Ashton Kutcher. I had Kutcher in mind because although he`s more of a comedy actor with such high spirit while Steve was a low-struck infamous musician with a drug habit that started him off prior to his career,I immediantly COMPARED Kutcher to Marriott in my mind while watching a musical of one of their hit songs. Trust me,Kutcher will pull off one of THE most dramatic performaces you`ll ever see.
Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill. THAT should be surprising.
Heath Ledger rightly so at No1, he was outstanding in that role, absolutely legendary
Mary Tyler Moore in Ordinary People
CLEvids wow you're going old school! Good pick
I've never been a huge fan of Ashton Kutcher, but I was quite impressed with his performance in The Butterfly Effect. Love that movie so much!
Heath Ledger's Joker is pretty much the best performance of all time. Unfortunately, that preparation for the role is, in part, what killed him =/
No. It was the Xanax
BCPR *facepalm*
BCPR yeah, and maybe some of the hard drugs he was taking had something to do with it. Maybe.
If you consider Ambien a "hard drug".
blackdove78 even then he wasn’t taking ambien to be the joker. Joker role didn’t kill him. ambien did like you said :/
WatchMojo needs to bring back this awesome background music! One of my favorite WatchMojo list because to this music!
I sometimes scratch my head whenever someone complains why an American is doing a British or European role but rarely complains when a British or European does an American role???
Michael Keaton is the best Batman, period.
Noooo..
George Clooney is the best Batman
+pascalau emi and Hali Berry is the best cat woman
+Yes Sir! didnt understand what you tried to explain
+Yes Sir! and in case you are refering to me as a kid sorry but no, I'm 27 yo so I have a base for my opinion
Leonardo Dicaprio as Arnie grape in "Whats eating gilbert grape" should've been on here. He plays a mentally ill boy and when he showed up to the academy awards, people were surprised that he wasn't actually mentally ill.
Not many people knew who DiCaprio was at that point, so they wouldn't have many expectations either
I loved Rosamund pike in Gone girl
My first thought is, Brits always seem upset about casting non Brits (Bridget Jones), but if someone gets upset about casting a Brit for an American role, it's a backlash of whining :p
I'm thinking of Henry Cavill as Superman for that one. Plus, I always found it amusing that they cast 2 Australian actors (Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger) as the two leads in The Patriot.
+Diomedes osu Mel Gibson was born in New York and lived there until he was 12.
+Dead men tell no tales 1914 Hmmm...I recall once people thinking Denzel should play Bond.
+Matt Smick yeah but they blew her up
she was better than Katie Holmes
Matt S Let's not forget Christian Bale, how bad he was.
Chris Evans as Captain America. I was way off being worried that wasnt gonna work. Chris nailed it.
I agree with number 1 (=no brainer)
But why's Jackman as Wolverine not on this list????
Because Hugh Jackman is born to be Wolverine. I think at the test screening anyone have no doubt about it. XD
Yeah, but the fans hated the casting when it got anounced.
Because Hugh was an unknown and the fanboys said he was too tall for the role.
Andres Harinck because he fucking sucks as wolverine.
stillatin Said nobody ever.
Andres Harinck Yeah People hated Hugh Jackman before X1
he should be on the list
I love how Americans say Daniel Kreg instead of Craig
Marc Lewis i love how you dont know shes canadian
Kaptain Kappa Oh, her accent is very American you gotta admit. Plus I don't know how I'd even learn that information since she's just a commentator.
Marc Lewis well watchmojo is a canadian company, and no, she sounds canadian, though maybe thats just because americans and canadians sound almost exactly the same most of the time
Kaptain Kappa I'm English so the only way I'd be able to tell if she said "Aye" at the end of a sentence or two even though it's just a stereotype.
Marc Lewis they're Canadian
My Top 10 Best Casting Decisions of All Time
10. Timothèe Chalamet as Paul Atreides
9. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman
8. Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean
7. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
6. Johnny Depp as Icabod Crane
5. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka
4. Michelle Pifeffer as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
3. Wean McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
2. Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker
1. Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Something to be said for the make up artist on Monster too.
In the case of Star Trek, it was more that lots of people were against the very idea of recasting TOS.
Most of those people remain unconvinced.
John Travolta in Pulp Fiction!
Keatons is ironic. since now hes often sighted as being the best guy to ever perform the roll of batman
Who on earth had doubts about Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl she's a great actress
Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone - The Godfather,
Steve Carell as John du Pont - Foxcatcher,
Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man - Spider-Man
and Bruce Willis as John McClane - Die Hard.
I know its not exactly the videos topic. But j.k simmons as j jonah jameson is the most perfect casting call i can think of.
Charlize Theron should be number one!
Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise
Panduhh he was awful as Lestat.
You should watch Born on the Fourth of July
@@jmqrita21 not true.
@@ligmarichard4206 It's very true! He was awful!
He is quite good as actor, especially in action movies
Tom Cruise can pull of any role: he's that talented . Love you Tom.
Even a samurai?
BB13131313 yes. The Last Samurai
Can't say that I disagree with this.
Bob Mob maybe 20 years ago. over time, he ended up committing the ultimate sin as an actor, which is having your real life antics overshadow your acting. these days, it's very hard to look at tom cruise in any movie and not see the real batty tom cruise rather than the character he's playing.
Rebazar agree to an extent. however in his inside the actors studio interview for example he came off incredibly well, changed/balanced my perspective on him
In my opinion no one should be ruled out until the movie comes out
Bruce Dern played freeman Lowel as an enviromental activist(Silent Running), When he usually plays the bad guys. Dern"I've played more dopers, degenerts and pyschos then anyone else in hollywood." Almost no one thought he could pull it off at the time. . And now it is the movie he is most remembered for.
Theron in Monster should've easily been top 3
Umm Robert Downey Jr. As Iron Man???
+lastofmykind8 That's a great call. People tend to forget that Downey was damaged goods back then. He was definitely on the comeback trail, but his career was suffering. Somebody gambled, and was dead on when casting him as Tony Stark...Of course, the rest speaks for itself.
+NightMan77 We have Jon Favreau to thank for RDJ as Tony Stark. Marvel Studios didn't want him in the role AT ALL. Jon said most of RDJs missteps have been in the public eye and that would help him in the role. It was a huge toss up to see if he would work. But boy did it work.
Totally. And now, it's hard to think of anyone else doing it. He's simply.... perfect.
Did`nt they want as Iron Man? Marvel?
Yeah i thought he would be on the list too. Especially considering it was a big budget film
I think most people DID doubt him. Before the Joker, Ledger was mostly a pretty boy
Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind"----big uproar when she, a Brit, was chosen to play the iconic southern belle. She was a perfect choice even lauded so by the author Margaret Mitchell.
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
James Spader as Ultron in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Gerard Butler as King Leonidas in 300.
Ralph Feines as Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter & the Goblet Of Fire.
Wesley Snipes as Blade in Blade.
Megan Fox as Jennifer Check in Jennifer`s Body.
Renee Zellweger was brilliant as Bridget Jones!! Bravo, Renee!!
charlize theron should have been number 1
I totally agree!!!!
At least second to Heath Ledger. Two of the most Oscar-worthy performances of the 2000s and of all time!
I know this list is only for Movies. But if one is done for T.V shows, How about Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
Ozymandias That's not shocking. He's a great actor.
Ozymandias I didn't find it shocking at all. In fact, he was my favourite for the role before he got announced. I'm glad he didn't dissapoint.
Naw I wasn't too surprised when he knocked it outa the park. He's a great actor, so it wasn't too much of a shock when he was cast as Fisk
I love how fans went from not believing Heath could properly portray J to now how nearly everyone is convinced no one will ever do as well as he did
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. I was shocked by the casting then further shocked by how well it worked.
Love Craig as Bond. FYI, in the books Bond is described as not very attractive.
I was really skeptical about both Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler being in LOTR. How wrong I was! They were both amazing!!!
True whoever recognized Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, what a genius.
Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, yeah she was already Oscar nominated at the time but nothing about her made me think of Katniss
Caridad Chang If they changed her more to how she is in the books yes, but it seemed to me that they changed Katniss for her, not the other way round like Charlize Theron with her's.
(I know her's was based on a real person, but the drift is the same)
***** I can see your point, I actually really like the movie's casting as a whole but some of the decitions in terms of writting are questionable.
that was like her breakout performance so not really
Caridad Chang Well, pretty much anyone could play katniss.
Caridad Chang Well, pretty much anyone could play katniss.
Let me guess, number one is OOH YES IT'S HEATH LEDGER AGAIN I NEVER WOULDVE SUSPECTED FOR THE 51ST TIME
Charlize Theron will forever be my favourite for her role in Monster, what a transformation, she really did look like the woman she portrayed, to take a chance on a role that had nothing to do with her looks was amazing and she made it legendary.
As a French person, it is my duty and pleasure to tell you (the narrator) that you were able to pronounce « Lestat de Lioncourt » very decently indeed, especially for a native English speaker, I wouldn’t have minded if you’d pronounced it wrong but you did good, well done!
Daniel Craig is the best since Connery
What about Steve Carrell in Foxcatcher?
every time i see this joker...I JUST CRY!! R.I.P Ledger......
10:25 I too have a dramatic role for a comedy actor in mind: Ashton Kutcher to play Steve Marriott in a biopic of the 60`s rock band, the Small Faces.
Heath Ledger's Joker gives me goosebumps *every time!*
Soon Ben Affleck will be on Another Top 10 Surprisingly Good Movie Casting Choices list.
In Affleck we trust
He definitely knows his shit nowadays, forget that daredevil happened

Or ruin DC's quest to challenge Marvel.
The Dark Knight Hopefully
What about Jim Carrey in Number 23? A comedian starring in a psychological thriller? Come on man!
Kate Speaks finally someone else who's pointing that out ! I agree 100℅ with you, he should have been on the list (at least in the Honorable mentions )

Michael Caine in Zulu
Christian Bale in American Psycho
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Chris Evans as Captain America
Jonah Hill as Donny Azoff In Wolf of Wall Street
Robert Carlye Trainspotting
Dev Patel in Slum Dog Millionaire
Harrison Ford as Hans Solo

Chris Evans as Cap? Yes. I don`t know about all.

Why are Rosamund Pike and Rooney Mara 'honorable mentions' and not on the actual list? They both were beyond perfect.
So glad Heath Ledger was on the top spot
I watched this video because of heath ledger. I knew before clicking he'll on the top.
Totally agree.
I also loved chris pine as Captain Kirk.
