I've had two major surgeries in my abdomen area, the first one from 2007 from a bullet wound, and then a second one a couple of years after that in order to repair the double hernia which resulted from the original surgery.
I have had an ongoing problem for years that has never resolved, and that is the muscle cramps. I basically can't do any sit-ups, for several reasons. The first is the cramps, the second is my stomach will bulge up higher than I feel comfortable looking at, and the third is that I don't want to damage anything and have a third surgery.
I went through a lot of pain between the end of 2007 and the couple of years following it, to say the least. Not everyone survives a direct gut-shot with a .38 slug and then two surgeries.
The main question I have about this is my ongoing abdominal muscle issue. How can I fix the cramping? Sometimes they'll cramp just by sitting up too fast or changing positions. I really have to be careful with my movements. When I was having my second surgery, the doctors got permission from my parents to "release" some muscles, which they said they needed to do while putting in the mesh to repair the hernia (I was told it was actually from a pig). I feel that this procedure had something to do with it, but it is very, very hard to find any information about it.
If you guys could point me to some info about this and what I might could do to improve it, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you very much.

Brandon, It sounds like you've gotten very lucky with your outcome thus far. Unfortunately we don't have any insight into your cramping and what would be best to prevent it. Sorry we couldn't help, CAHS

Jakob, We suggest to all of our patients that they take stool softeners after their surgery. Best, CAHS
