I have seen 100's of magnificent layouts over the years (decades), but each time I see Copenhagen Fields I am reminded... this is the one. It brilliantly captures the essence of London at that time.
My mind is simply boggling at the invention, skill and sheer hard work that has gone into this. So many layouts are, through necessity, primarily a railway with a bit of scenery around it, but this is a full landscape with a railway in it, if you see what I mean, and it's all the better for it. Brilliant!
I can see the old ckock tower from Caledonian Road Cattle Market in the middle distance on the backdrop - tower still stands, market long gone. Superb attention to detail
This layout keeps me stunning every time I see it. The brass strip fiddle yard is a very clever idea, never to worry about track ends coming loose on the base board ends, due to cost you could apply this method for the last couple of inches on each board and use plain track in between.
I wish my grandfather could see this he was a driver on LMS . I was a signalman for nearly 50 years , and one thing on your beautiful model layout that was a NO, NO. On the real railway , was a brake van in front of a loco . It was considered a dangerous thing to do.
Fantastic! One of the Best if not the best Model Railroad in the world. The attention to detail and as you say reliability is just unbelievable. Hats off to the individuals past and present for a the hard (I am sure enjoyable) work done.
An N scale Pendon. I remember well the rave reviews and articles in magazines for months, years, as it progressed. An inspirational layout on so many levels, literally. 👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely fantastic & hats off to everyone involved, what a simply beautiful layout,I love everything about it,& have the copies of model Railway magazines with the layout in & I've always been a fan of Ealing comedies so always have a little smile when I see "Mrs Wilberforce's" (Mrs Lopsidey) house from "The Ladykillers"
Brilliant work - reminds me of my upbringing in the area in the 1950s/1960s. The Hillmarton Road-Caledonian Road junction just beyond Caledonian Road underground station appears to be a little odd and St Matthias church (since demolished) appears to be too far up Hillmarton Rd and at the wrong angle!
On further reflection, I think this church was St Mary's Liberal Catholic church and St Matthias or St Matthew was the other since-demolished church, slotted in between the buildings just up the road from and on the opposite side to Pentonville Prison. There was also All Saints down nearer to King's Cross.
Trying to find the words, at seeing this. Staggeringly well done. What a story too. Having looked at their website just realised I must have seen this at the Westminster Hall in the 60s!
@@johnd8892 Yes, must have been another layout by the MRC but too long ago to recall. Still have all my 1960s Railway Modeller magazines so will do some research...
A beautiful, detailed layout, however--Above Copenhagen Tunnel portals we need to see Mrs Wilberforce's eccentric house at the end of Frederica Street--I believe Ealing Techs built the house over the end wall facing down to the Tunnel portals, perhaps two tiny furtive figures dumping a body over the Tunnel parapet?? But well done Model Railway Club for such a fantastic distinctive and fascinating layout! :-)
When I saw the layout I asked about that. Mrs. Wilberforce's house was not there but the musicians were. Great film, isn't it? I modeled part of my N scale layout on Copenhagen Fields and I do have the professor standing on a platform below a semaphore- it comes down but doesn't hit him. I have the musicians, too.
How do you keep all the track clean ? That would be the biggest challenge. I saw this many years ago in a magazine article. Very impressive and inspiring.
Great piece of miniature civil engineering and landscaping ... Except what are green engines doing on freight/coal workings? Even - or especially - back in the 20's-40's green engines were for passenger working, black for mixed traffic
The SINGULAR outstanding aspect of this model railway is not the level of quality of the 2mm modelling. That is adequate, but not "stellar". That outstanding, single conceptual aspect is the scope of the design. To SCALE with the only (admitted) concession to true to scale is the shortening of Copenhagen tunnel itself. True to full sized curves on a point to point (visible) system of trackwork and scenery are what make this "Display" so unusually convincing..
I last saw this layout at Alexadra Palace about three years ago. Great layout, but I could never run trains on it!! I find the gauge too small for me to be able to set trains going.
It's beautifully modelled and the perspective very clever. The one thing that spoils it is the slight jerkiness of the engines and multiple units. This is typical of most if not all small scale model railways. I presume it requires some sort of smoother running electric motors to overcome it though I don't have the answer.
Why do the loco's NEED to be REALLY reliable, when you could simply swap one for another.? There's no law/rule that says you MUST run the same loco ALL weekend.! Great model tho.!🥰!.
I wouldn't have it scratch built... I'd have it Korean built.! I think it would be cheaper.!😂!. Plus.. the best way to stop things getting damaged in transit, is to use a Mercedes sprinter, rather than the Ford option.🤣.

Absolutely beautiful, so much attention to detail that I never knew

What a beauty. So much love and joy in it. Thank you for sharing this beauty 🙏🏻
Absolutely beautiful, so much attention to detail that I never knew 2mm could look so good. I instantly thought of an old film The Ladykillers.
Lol
Yes it does 👍😆
I never considered using different scale models to create the illusion of perspective.
10/10
Just wonderful. That is the huge advantage of 2mm scale, you can put whole trains in the landscape.
The false perspective is done very well on this layout. The effect is stunning.

Probably the best known layout in the country, and deservedly so.
maybe the world

One of the best layouts ive ever seen at a show and it always has loads of people stood looking at it.
I have a Graham Farish Voyager that is coming up on 200km/125 miles. Still runs amazing with just basic servicing. Do love Copenhagen Fields.
Well done Tim, and the MRC for sharing this epic undertaking over the years
It's a tremendous layout carefully prepared to give atmosphere.

Tim, Good to see you looking well. Great video of a terrific project. Paul Williams, ex MMRS, now of the TCS committee.

That is a beautiful layout very inspiring indeed.
Incredible piece of work. This is on my list to see for real. Im a P4 modeller but when it comes to 2mm finescale, wow.
Like the video very much.Hope there's more.Take care

Having looked at their website just realised I must have seen this at the Westminster Hall in the 60s!
After 0:25 the start of construction is stated as 1984. So you must have seen some other high standard layout in the sixties.

Saw this at Warley Exerpition few years ago outstanding modelling

Main reason I watched the video: to see whether they'd modelled that.

@@lawrencelewis8105 and Mrs Wilberforce's parrots, too?🤔🤗
@@jeanbonnefoy1377 No, I did not model them but they are in the house. Polly wants a pint of real ale and that's a fact!
And he wants a pint of Dark Star Hophead! Make it snappy!
I thought i seen layouts but this takes to the top everything built from scratch or modified awsomme
Absolutely incredible sir 👏
Simply stunning, well done to everyone involved.
Speechless 😶. Thank you and keep it up 👍🏼 🙏🏼
I've seen this layout at Alexandra Palace. It is magnificent!
The best I've seen.
anyone recognise the tunnel from the ladykillers?
Absolutely fantastic
Gobsmacked, fantastic layout 👏👌
Love the dedication.
Amazing. Would love to get a closer look👍
Going to meet my wife after work, where she works in Kings Cross and we are going top come and have a look on a Thursday.
This is fantastic. I am looking for ideas for my layout. But this is unbelievably and looks real. Regards Alan :o)
Magnificent!
Damn dude. Can you make a device that will transport me back to that time and place.
Great job.
Incredible.
Very nice. Very very nice.

One of the best.
What I'm curious about is the GNR liveried 2-6-0 that's seen a couple of times.
This is the finest N gauge layout .
Speechless.
This is truly fantastic - Copenhagen Fields could easily be EM or P4, and indeed I thought it was at first!

Was this layout in the Graham fanish catalogue once I think in the late 90s?

Jawdropping
Amazing layout and informative except for the photo bomber in the blue shirt

Named after Copenhagen House residence of the Danish Ambassador - since demolished
