I’m three minutes in and inclined to agree straight away! Thirty years on the job and a model by a railwayman has the understanding and details knowledge that sets it apart. The York museums signalling school model railway built by the LYR has a realism that needs no grass or trees! Block bells and correct operation and your imagination fills the gaps!
This is a fantastic layout, some of the most realistic track I've seen and some of the finest buildings anywhere. Many thanks for sharing, a true work of love and amongst the finest model railways out there.
I agree that heavy industry had an awe inspiring and mysterious presence. The product of the labour of hundreds of men working together to achieve great things.
Superb layout. I was born and bred in Bilston and the steelwork's bring's back memories of the smell and smoke what use to come off it along with all the other heavy industry in and around Bilston. It's bought a smile to my face. Hope you have plenty more happy year's with your superb layout.
outstanding , propper trains when britain had industry ,, my father was a guard so cab rode so many locos and DMUs EMUs in the 70s early 80s it was untrue fantastic eye for details , oh to be back there again
Incredible layout and great interview. I remember as a kid in South Wales you could just go wander around the local colliery or go down to the docks and ramble about no problem just as long as you didn't interfere or go somewhere stupid. Things have changed so much. Your layout really captures the whole industrial atmosphere that has gone now for the most part. Amazing. Well done!
Don't put yourself down so much, what you have achieved is absolutely staggering. I drove passenger trains for network southeast ( BR days ), and the sights you have created i recognise the feeling of, especially the industrial grime of the bits inbetween suburbia. I know that you will continue tweeking this for ever.
I'm not into Brit rail layouts that much but this is an absolute masterpiece.....Thanks for this incredible work by any measure ...G'day from Australia..
Happened upon your railway... very impressive. Seeing the BRS Midlands took me back to the early '80s as a transport distribution trainee with BRS North Eastern, exotic locations such as Lackenby Teesside and Goole... seeing the steel coils and the mills in such miniature scale is a masterpiece. Congratulations!
Stunning realism. I grew up in the 50/60's in the N.E. England. Saw the transition of steam to diesel. Your aging of the scene is exceptional. Took me right back.
Amazing detail ! 2 years of watching UA-cam for inspiration and ideas for my build and this is by far the best I've seen 100% the best ! Amazing skill Regards Ricky
Yes it is , l use it for loco wheel cleaning as it is wired into a brass wheel brush and the loco is turned upside down and held in a home made cradle .
Having been born in Birmingham (Pershore Road Selly Park) I noticed how acurate the Midland Red & Guy corporation buses you have modeled along with the rather rather grimely look of the factory buildings. The "look" is just about perfect.
Nice to see a layout that looks familiar having been brought up in Birmingham in the late 60s and 70s it nice to see the old coloured buses and the steel works at Saltley and the blue brick buildings with the grime on them. Worked at Tyseley railway museum on a YTS and remember the freight trains with the cars and coal coming through. Great work. John
can't get better than that -was several times from 1977-79 in Birmingham (Barbarella's still operating?), Leeds and Bradford -it looks 1:1 -congratulations, gold medal
Incredible! That is the most realistic layout I have ever seen! When watching the video it really takes you there! Thank You for sharing your creation! It's amazing!
I think earlier commentators have already said it but will repeat, Amazing layout and I was a trainspotter from the early 60s through to the early 70s and this is just like I remember an industrial north in and around Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield. Everywhere was busy with trains and the track was dusty, coal dust-coated, ash and oil and a sort of industrial grey and very dark walls and tufts of weeds. This is the most realistic model railway I have seen.
I have bin a lot in steel mills and this layout is so accurate when it comes to that, the torpedo carts, coil carts and mill rollers it all looks the same as the real thing.
Your attention to detail and weathering is to the highest standards. Sod the rivet counters the steelworks look good to me. If the carbon neutral brigade get there way like the pits, our steel industry will be gone in a generation. Glad your layout gives you such pleasure and thank you for posting.
That is fantastic .From a fellow brummy also born in dudley road hospital. So much detail MandB's so good .Love our old buses the cobalt and cream colour scheme still the best to me.really is something to be proud of do hope we get to see more.
I'm not not normally a fan of diesel layouts but this has blown me away! Absolutely fantastic! I used to go to college in the early 1970s by train from Stafford to Wolverhampton and this layout brings it all back. Well done!
Incredible layout. A terrific amount of work has gone into it. The trackwork looks convincing and all the trains are running very smoothly! Thanks for uploading.
Amazing layout, let my start by saying that I had that Triang transformer in 1965 with a Blue Pullman set. I grew up in the midlands and worked for a family business based in Birmingham small heath and we serviced the industry in the black country so your layout brings back fond memories especially when yo mentioned the "smells" which at places which i remember at places like TI stainless steel, Cashmores and the like. I have lived in Australia for the last 30 years and modelling and English 1960's layout. You have done a wonderful job on the layout and created a special atmosphere.
Feliciation to you and for a super great trip, and as always much appreciation for all of your efforts in sharing these videos of such a wonderful and scenic place. Keep up the tremendous work. Salutations de France.
Absolutely love other peoples passions whatever they might be. You only find negative comments from soulless types who can't start to understand, because they're unable to see quality. A fabulous piece, congratulations on your magnificent effort and work
Certainly not the location and ambience I would choose but who could possibly decry the amazing quality of the modelling. After all railways were invented to transport industrial.materials. Every aspect of this railway is carefully finished to a standard to which I do not aspire. It is a masterpiece.
The only thing i have to say is just WOW ,, what a great layout you have there. The detail is amazing and nothing to fault that i can see so you have really done amazing. You mentioned being a great stress relief well you hit the nail fair on the head as thats what i do too to relieve stress too but as i have amassed a fair bit of engines scenery station buildings and rolling stock in the last few years I thought I would start at the maintenance side of them by cleaning oiling and adjusting different items like some of the british and australian railways stuff i have here. I have acquired a bit of a taste for the british steam and diesel locos and just bought 3 x 40 class locos and waiting for them to turn up. I just cant wait to get them here to service them and just have a good look at them. There are sooo many wheels on them like 16 wheels to clean and look after and cant wait to see how they tick and run. I also like to buy old triang hornby stock and get it all running as good as I can. Anyhoo keep the good work and gr8 videos going there m8. Cheers from John in Australia.
As a Birmingham resident of about a decade, I knew this was a brummie layout just from the thumbnail! Those massive engineering brick retaining walls and masses of factories just screams Birmingham
As a career railwayman and keen modeller, that has to be the best layout I have ever seen. So accurate, its amazing. 👏👏👏👏👏

Thanks brother.
What an amazing layout. The attention to detail is absolutely mind-blowing. Well done!
Nice work. Every railway modeller is a craftsman but occasionally there is an artist...
Lovely. An absolute work of art and labour of love.
It's very hard to recreate natural distress and wear, and Greg has completely pulled it off here. The still photos are entirely convincing.
Superb layout. I was born and bred in Bilston and the steelwork's bring's back memories of the smell and smoke what use to come off it along with all the other heavy industry in and around Bilston. It's bought a smile to my face. Hope you have plenty more happy year's with your superb layout.

Just carry on the great work. All the best from the Bostin' Black Country.
What a fantastic layout bud top job
Thanks so much to Greg, Mr Shenston Road. I love his layout, video and brilliant description.
Fantastic work the detail blows you away. Takes me back to my teens when everything was grubby and worn.
Many shots are barely distinguishable from real life. Superb detail, really realistic weathering - a truly wonderful layout.

Looks like a Triang controller there with the blue hammerite finish cover and red control knob! Super detail on this build.
Yes it is , l use it for loco wheel cleaning as it is wired into a brass wheel brush and the loco is turned upside down and held in a home made cradle .

The details are unbelievable as is his love for the setting! Just absolutely fantastic! Best of health and continued love of the hobby.
SUPERB.
I am not into model railway but this is different level. I am nodding my head.👍
Sounds like a truly sound bloke with a passion for the details and a genuine will, to be totally submerged in the railway, he's created.
Incredible! That is the most realistic layout I have ever seen!

Amazing! Best layout I have ever seen!
Yes, warmer than I thought it would be.
That is a work of art
Very realistic scenery, great weathering, one of the best layouts I’ve seen, love the sidings, you should be very proud of it.
First class model of the late industrial scene, I remember this area and you got the atmosphere just right.
Wow! What a fantastic layout. The steelworks is a work of art.
