- Edinburgh is well known as a hilly city, with the Old Town in particular is built on a LOT of steps. So for this years' Hogmanay challenge, we'll keep on our toes for a bit of a unique challenge! Join us as we traverse the streets of the capital and hopefully you'll see some sights along the way as our energy evaporates :)

What a challenge! I'm worn out just watching you. My knees would not survive that challenge unless I was going down the stairs. Loved seeing all the different routes you took and the phone booth was priceless. We were at top of museum also and it is a fabulous view. Congrats guys for putting so much effort into your videos! Very appreciative and we want to wish you both a Happy New Year and sending positive vibes for the upcoming year. Steve and Alicja, this Granny 👵 is having a melt down just thinking of having a set of steps named after her, if covid doesn’t get her the steps will, did no one ever stop to think they would be getting very old one day! I struggle mounting the curb let alone a stairway to heaven, or, hell, I had to concede virtual defeat after mysterious phone call! but very well done 👍 you two, and yes you should make a video wearing a kilt Steve, true to the ‘Outlander’ style, but with your tendency for going off mountain climbing at the drop of a hat, remember to pack a pair of jockey shorts! What a wonderfully creative way to show us Edinburgh! I really loved it! It helps people understand just how hilly that city is and can prepare folks who are not aware they will have to climb around so much! Great to see the views and remember my times there. Excellent of you both doing this, Edinburgh in my view is one of the best places on earth for its history and architectural achievements, however watching you both did spark off my angina, I would of collapsed way back..😪

Loved this one. Well done to you and Alicja for conquering all those steps. Both of you must be as fit as butchers dogs after all that and deserve a medal! I personally along with my dear wife have conquered the News steps when we stayed in Edinburgh in November when we were over visiting our Daughter. We stayed in Motel One in Market Street and you could even see the steps from our hotel window. I don't know exactly how many steps there are at the News steps but it felt like 1000 by the time we got to the top, totally knackered! A very happy new year to you and Alicja, my favourite youtubers. Have a great one and see you on the other side in 2022!

I was there in 1973 and did the alleged 287 steps up the Scott Monument. I was hoping all the way through your video that you would climb it. Maybe it was closed.
Was lovely to see the city from your perspective. Again I stayed in a youth hostel association place which was a stunning place to visit the central city. Pure magic !!

It seems that I've got quite a connection to Edinburgh steps. Let me see...
I've definitely staggered up and down a few of them; especially around the grassmarket after a night in the Fiddler's!
I got propositioned by a woman three times my age at the bottom of the Scotsman steps (needless to say, this country boy legged it!)
I narrowly avoided getting my head kicked in coming out of Advocate's Close.
Finally, I found a dead body at the bottom of the News Steps!
I only lived there for a few months! 😮
Anyway, well done to you both! Although I'm slightly disappointed that you didn't do a Rocky at the top of the front steps of the museum!
Definitely going to rewatch this soon and take you up on your whisky sipping challenge! Slàinte! 🍻

Happy New Year to you both. I am 88years of age and I cannot believe that there is still a second hand shop in the Grassmarket called Armstrong’s. When I was a young child and lived in Blackfriars Street my uncle had a second hand shop which was just two doors away from Armstrong’s shop. They were opposite St. Patrick’s Church. The little shop on the corner, at the bottom of High School Yards steps,sold pokes of peas and vinegar.

Right through the video, I was shouting don't forget The Scotsman Steps and you didn't ! Used to love the paintings exhibited there during the festival. Growing up early teens I used to work in Patrick Thomson's just over the road on North Bridge !
At the top of Fleshmarket steps near Cockburn St there used to be a wee pet shop in the fifties and sixties were I bought a hamster !
The steps down from the Castle Esplanade has cannon balls embedded in the building walls on the left side as you descend ! All useless information!!
The steps opposite the Omni trying to answer your question, weren't they used in Trainspotting ??

Happy New Year! I know The News Steps very well - we once stayed at the Frazier Suites (near the top) and used the steps down as a quick way to Waverley station and the new town in general. The day we left we walked down to the station and, 20min before the train, I remembered I’d left my coat in the hotel! Yes, I had to run UP the News Steps and back down in 15min. I survived. Barely. Have a great 2022!
