Hi Steve. 8.75 Euros for a bottle of Grant's scotch ? Wow... In Australia, the same bottle is around $40 Australian Dollars !🤣 The ferries looked comfortable to sit in. Just keeping on the ferry theme, at 25mins 39secs of the video there is a ferry there that used to be the Stena Parisien that operated between Stranraer & Belfast. Once Stena closed Stranraer that ferry wassold on to further service with Balearia.

Hiya Steve, feels a tad Portuguese when you land there because the Portuguese went there before the Spanish and built church and fortress I think, the year, 1415, just as Portugal started going about the world, the first stop was there Ceuta.
Thankyou Steve. That was really special! So clever that you are able to access those amazing places rather easily! It seems so quiet! Post covid? Anyway you have inspired me to pick up the Spanish again. Yours was way better than mine! 😅

Another wonderful video! Thanks. When Inter-Railing back in 1997, my mate and I went through Algeciras on our way to Tangier and ultimately Marrakech. Gibraltar looked amazing from a distance, but we didn't get there. Not only were you born in the same year as me, you also seem to possess the inability to walk past a dog or cat without trying to pet it. That's a lovely attribute, but on one of your previous videos you managed to get a cat to miaow, which caused the cat on my lap to dig her claws into my legs and then search the room for ten minutes looking for the intruder.😂
The plant life on the island was truly amazing. A botanists paradise. The island looked like a Spanish version of Switzerland. Classy and upmarket. Like you Steve l would have loved to stay on one of those posh yachts in the marina for night with a nice ice cold pack of beer for company.
Sorry to be a pain Mr Steve, but when are we going back to Scotland for more adventures?😅 Perhaps one day you could take a trip to South Larnakshire and visit the Spectacle E'e falls at Sandford, where we scattered my Dad's ashes. There's a fascinating story behind the name of the waterfall 😊
In case nobody has mentioned it yet, the statues are because in antiquity the Straight of Gibraltar was sometimes called the Pillars of Hercules after the great big rocks on both sides. Ceuta looks amazing and just got added to a very high spot on my list.
@@steve-marsh I guess that’s the thing. That seagull looks like one I saw in Kirkcaldy a couple of weeks ago.
🤣
Wow Ceuta looks amazing... Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area..... I have done a Whale watching trip from Tarifa.... Loads of Dolphins, and screaming Women and children!!!!!! But no whales, (supposed to be a good place to see Orcas).. :-( Great video Stevie Boy.... If only you had a Very Glamorous Young lady to join you.... Ohhh You DO!! :-))))
Haha cheers mate! Trips much better with my sidekick
@@steve-marsh She is kinda Cute..... :-))
Hiya Steve, feels a tad Portuguese when you land there because the Portuguese went there before the Spanish and built church and fortress I think, the year, 1415, just as Portugal started going about the world, the first stop was there Ceuta.
Ahhh thanks so much!
Thankyou Steve. That was really special! So clever that you are able to access those amazing places rather easily!
It seems so quiet! Post covid?
Anyway you have inspired me to pick up the Spanish again. Yours was way better than mine! 😅
Haha it won't take you long to be better than me :D I think it was more me going out of season, I believe during the holidays, the ferries are packed!
Excellent video as per usual Steve. Keep em coming. I scratch my head tho on your comments about the heat and humidity, yet you've always wearing a jacket???
Cheers! Hey, that’s my super-duper summer shirt with uv and mosquito protection :)
Thanks for sharing Steve. Have a nice day!
Thanks so much!
A charming place that I did not existed. Thanks for the trip
Cheers mate!
Be early for the ferry on Moroccan holidays, European holidays, it gets absolutely heaving! Great vlog. From Huelva you can take the ferry to the Canaries. Good Spanish, also!
Cheers! Oh I can only imagine what it’s like with all those seats full!
Blown away by the lack of crowds. My type of place. Thanks Steve!
Yeah, that was a real bonus for me too, especially when filming :)
@13:55: we sure appreciate all the sacrifices you make, to show us these fabulous video's 😉. What an exceptional enclave. Thank you Steve 👌
Thanks so much mate!
Another tremendous video. Always appreciate you sharing different parts of the world with us.
Everything I do, I do it for you 🎶
Great video Steve. I agree that it is always good to be able to go outside on deck and enjoy the scenery and views of other shipping!
And such an interesting place to see all the goings on :)
Your vids are getting so much better, thank you for the great and interesting post
Hey really appreciate it, thank you!
Hi Steve and Alicja! I got a new phone for Christmas from my boys and I've only just managed to get a sim in! Its now February 2024! And its so good to watch your videos on this phone as other one looks like its been on a firing range! several times! Many thanks from Boadiceantruth! Aka Catherine. 😁🙋🏴🇮🇪
Glad to hear it Nigel :) I struggle with countries where there are a lot of strays, I want them all!
Thank you Steve, another great video. Safe travels.
Thanks Peter!
Impressed by your Spanish skills!
The plant life on the island was truly amazing. A botanists paradise. The island looked like a Spanish version of Switzerland. Classy and upmarket. Like you Steve l would have loved to stay on one of those posh yachts in the marina for night with a nice ice cold pack of beer for company.
Ohhh sounds perfect :)
But Ceuta is not an island. It is part of the African continent.
Sorry to be a pain Mr Steve, but when are we going back to Scotland for more adventures?😅
Perhaps one day you could take a trip to South Larnakshire and visit the Spectacle E'e falls at Sandford, where we scattered my Dad's ashes.
There's a fascinating story behind the name of the waterfall 😊
I’ll certainly see what I can do Kelley :) will be back to the Scotland videos in the not too distant future, please stick with me until then :)
In case nobody has mentioned it yet, the statues are because in antiquity the Straight of Gibraltar was sometimes called the Pillars of Hercules after the great big rocks on both sides. Ceuta looks amazing and just got added to a very high spot on my list.
P.S. You need some short sleeves man!
I walked across the border to Ceuta from Morocco. It was a very interesting and humbling experience.
I had considered it but heard it could take hours!
@@steve-marsh I guess that’s the thing. Some people wait weeks, months, years and risk their lives to get across that border, but with my pasty Scottish DNA skin and Canadian passport, I was just waved through - helpfully guided by the people waiting that I should just bypass the queues. Which is what made it so very humbling.
We've just come back from doing this trip (Gibraltar, La Linea, Ceuta). Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Thank you SO much for sharing this with us. I too struggle a lot with hot humid climate.. Safe journey to you further on - C, Denmark
Once again you surprise us, what a lovely place the architecture was also surprisingly ornate and beautiful. I also was feeling the heat, dark t-shirt and dark grey shirt on top ... despite the fact its a uv/ mosquito repellant long sleeve shirt white would be a better choice... you`re not in Montrose !! O.K. I apologize, I live in a hotter climate with much lower humidity so I feel your pain.... thanks for the outside footage, well worth it... We cruise a lot and i probably spend more time on deck then most people.. brilliant thanks for taking the time to fill your videos with so much original content. M & M Seligman AZ, right on Route 66
You're from Seligman? No way! I remember having a stop there and the best milkshake I ever did taste! And I still have a bottle opener keychain from the wee store there! Ahhhh memories...
Another great video, Steve. I have looked across the Med from Gibraltar towards Ceuta, but haven't set foot on the African continent. Ceuta looks beautiful.
Cheers Barney! Sure is mate :)
Everything Spanish is Beautiful....and Ultra Modern which leaves the U.K. lagging at least 50 years behind....ene?
But there is nothing you can do though.....is there ?....
You just have to LUMP IT
Great video and now having seen will have to do it , many years ago I made the trip from Malaga to Melilla and would highly recommend , that was in my interailing days traveling mostly alone I now live in Malaga so will revisit and Cueta on the cards for sure.
Cheers Antonio - I'll need to give Melilla a go for sure!
That ferry reminds me of the old Stena HSS which went from Stranraer to Belfast. The only thing was it was a bit shaky on board. I'd love to go down there. I love the heat, better for your vitamin d the sun
Aye I remember that one! Cheers :)
Another top video, Steve. I like your relaxed and honest approach to things.
Thanks Chris!
Good choice of trip Steve, somewhere exotic yet near to Europe. Pity about some missing views but you can't win every time! The heat is tough for us Scots sometimes but you made it in the end. Good stuff. Allan.
Cheers Allan!
Yes it was a pity 😢
I watched on my kindel the other day and enjoyed the video. Yes a bite to eat and some fresh air are well worth the small price increase. Loving the videos, your Lordshop ;)
Thanks Cathy :)
Excellent - and despite the awkward history, there's something very pretty about old colonial towns.
An awkward history? not the one in Ceuta, my friend...
Colonial town Ceuta?....read more Will you Mister ? Before commenting...
@@madgringo9263 Umm, was the area not in the hands of the Portuguese , Moroccans and others over time - so it has mixed colony history.
@@saintuk70 Ceuta has a very long Spanish history ....when the Germánic tribes invaded the Iberiams Península ...the North of Morocco was known as Mouritania (thus the Word Moor).... by the Romans Who Ruled It from their Province of Hispania ...
When the Goths formed the independent Visigothic KINGDOM of Spain.... most of Mouritania became Visigothic land too.
..thus Spanish..since the 5th, Century. A.D.
History reports that It was the VISIGOTH Count Don.Julian which was The Governor of Mouritania.... due to a grudge which he held against the VISIGOTHS King of Spain Don.Rodrigo ....who had seduced Count Don.Julian's very pretty doughter with a promise of marridge which he Didn't fullfil ....and feeling thus humiliated Don.Julian ...out of spite called in Muza's Muslim armies Which were clóse to Mouritania in their Jihhad .... and even procured the moors with the boats in the Bay of Ceuta to beging THE MUSLiM IMVATION OF GOTHIC SPAIN.....this occurred in the 8th, Century A.D.
It's no wonder that Morocco's claim to this Spanish lands in North África
are fully rejected in the United Nations....which isn't the case with Spain's claim on Gibraltar which the U.N. sentenced since the 1960s. On Spain's Favour.
The Gibraltar issiu since Brexit is dealt with the European Unión v the U.K. which for the KINGDOM of Spain is a different BALL GAME. Altogether.
This together with the fact that the people in Gibraltar voted in Mass to remain in the E.U. in the Brexit Referéndum.
Just back from Ceuta. I used the fast ferry from Balearia. There was no difference between standard and premium and simply everyone could go outside. It's not much space in the back, left and right side, but good enough to take some shots.
The statues of Hercules are in response to how the gap between The Rock of Gibraltar and North Africa was referred to in Ancient times
Next time in London steve, try the “extremes”, the end of the line stations, watford Chesham Amersham etc, when I go down by sleeper don’t fancy a expensive five hour left luggage fee, so with bag in tow and check in not till 2, stay on the tube with limited walking and visit the stations and keep warm, don’t forget the lighthouse at kings cross. Take care
So many ideas, thanks John!
Thank you for the “wee wander” around an interesting little enclave! I’m enjoying your videos and also your accent! (I’m a Midwestern American, who of course has no accent whatsoever.)
Oh I hope you understand what I'm saying :)

Love how the Rock of Gibraltar has a permanent cloud over it to remind the inhabitants of life back home.
Haha beautiful!
I doubt very much you've actually visited Gibraltar.
I also like to get outside on a boat. I had never heard of Cueta before this video but it looks like a nice (and very photogenic) place to visit.
Another great video Steve. Fascinating, never knew about that little part of Spain!
