Sony A6600 Review: Is it worth the money in 2021? What I think you should buy in 2021 for both video and photography (hint: it's not the new Sony ZVE10).
In this video, we will review Sony's flagship APS-C camera, the Sony A6600 and compare it with other popular cameras for photographers and videographers. The Sony a6600 is not cheap but if you want an excellent all-around versatile camera that shoots great 4K videos with professional features like a IBIS, Slog, and real time tracking autofocus, this may be the camera for you!
The question is, is this camera still worth $1400 in 2021? Is this a good camera for youtubers and is it good for those getting into photography? In this video I answer those exact questions and show you some other options that I think may be perfect cameras for you. Cheers
So, so true: the camera you grab is your best camera, and the smaller/lighter the better...For my recent (first time trip since COVID) to a warm location for snorkeling and activities I brought the Sony A6600 with assorted lenses, a TG-5 camera for underwater use, and the DJI Osmo pocket 2 for video. More and more I'm convinced that the smaller the camera you can use the better. The sony A6600 is great for stills and video IF you are not doing anything particularly active. For travelers going on tours to see ruins, going to a festival, etc, this large, delicate camera works great. But, for an active trip the camera is too big, fragile, not waterproof, shockproof, etc. and won't work. Thus, bring an active camera as your backup. I really like the tiny pocket 2 for video with people since it is so inconspicuous, but this camera is no good for anything active or water-based (for that I would get the GOPRO HERO 9). I bought the A6600 originally because of its small size but now find that it is huge compared to the small, active cameras offered today such as the TG-5/6, GO PROs or the osmo pocket 2. That said, I always would want to (sigh) bring my A6600 because the image quality is so good.
Yep, I agree completely. I always tell myself I'm packing light, then a camera back loaded full and 4 cameras later I'm off to the park with my daughter lol
I really want to see a new apsc from Sony soon! I don’t want to upgrade to a full frame yet
ME TOO!!! It's beyond time and they have the tech. I really don't know what's holding them up besides production issues or sourcing? I really have no clue, seems like a big miss on their end. They could be dominating the aps-c market with just a good sensor swap
I have a 5d3 purely for photography.
Looking to get a dedicated camera to do (lowlight, on tripod) video for UA-cam.
I currently do that with iPhone and GoPros.
You can probably imagine the grainy quality.
I started looking at the Sony ZV-E10, and from the the A6600, but after seeing this video, debating a used A73 - to avoid all the cons of the crop frames (I hate losing image to crop - I go from great wide angle lenses that get cropped to standard zoom).
Which camera would you go with?
I was trying to hold off on full frame mirrorless because it seems there are still issues that the manufacturers are trying to address.
Hi! So are you set on Sony? Tbh I love the a73 if you can work around the non flip screen problem. The camera I’m really loving lately that can do everything really well is the xs10 by Fuji! It really is a beast for the price. I do love the zve10, just has some limitations to work around. Check this out though ua-cam.com/video/Of_tCPHfULE/v-deo.html

thanks again for all your responses.
I’m not set on Sony (or any camera brand).
I prefer to choose purely based on whether the equipment has what I’m looking for.
I also try not to get hung up on gimmicks / fads - but can’t fault those that do, since companies do a wonderful job of marketing. =|
I’m sure I’m just as gullible.
So, I’m going to look into the Fuji you recommended, as well as the link you provided.
The flip screen issue isn’t a deal killer; it can be addressed, but I’d lump that into the things to consider (ie since it bumps up the cost if I want an external screen, but then I’d look at gear in that new price range).
The Sony ZV-E10 really seems so nice, but some of the negatives you pointed out are worth taking into consideration, and worth seeing if there is something else to go with (same price), or if it’s worth paying a bit more for a drastic improvement.
I feel fullframe has huge benefits (your lens focal range is native, low light, etc…). I prefer F.F., but I feel the technology is still relatively in its infancy, so I hate to commit to an R5, or R6 when I’m aware of the issues with those cameras.
In the end, there isn’t a perfect camera; always a compromise.
My 5d3 takes amazing pictures, so I’ll keep that around, and will just compensate for its video deficiencies.
Ok, will keep going through your videos as well as your recommendations.
Thanks and take care!
I wanted to buy this camera for the price in my country for 999$ but am confused deciding between other similar priced cameras like fuji's xs10 & xt3. I mainly do photos and little video.
What would u recommend?
thanks.
I mean they’re very very similar. I’d focus on what feel better in your hand. I’d try to hold them both and see which you like. In terms of internals, the end product will be the same. I’d get which one you will use more. For me, I like the size and weight of the xs10 so I would go with that. But some may prefer the feel of the xt
Ibis on this camera is just pretty much for photography. pressing the shutter creates micro jitters so the ibis in this body prevents it for photos.
Agreed completely. They could have done so much better with it though, especially at the price point right?
