Dude. your content is legendary, never saw something like it. I maybe commented on youtube 3 times in my life, your content is top notch, much appreciated
This is the most thorough minilogue xd video on UA-cam. Love this synth so much I have 2 (module & key's). Your work is highly appreciated ...Awesome walkthrough!
I've considered this myself. How do you find the polychaining? For me it would be super cool to have a 16 oscillator monosynth in "unison" mode.... mental
This video just taught me a trick with the LFO. The fact that every key doesn't need to be in step with the other keys and can feel more scattered is very cool.
This was by far the most comprehensive deep dive of Minilogue XD on the whole world wide web. Cannot wait for the Step Sequencer step. Well done, excellent work and thanks a million!
Amazing amount of detail. Thank you so much for spending all that time to document all the features and demonstrate how they act in real life! Truly awesome amount of knowledge conveyed here. This is the sort of video we wish the manufacturers would produce.
Yeah I just saw it !!! Thank you a LOT, It really really helps to keep going. Today is not such a great day, I am recovering from something, when you have kids they bring home whatever pest they could find at school, so your generosity makes my day better sir. Thank you for the help :)
i’ve had this synth for a while and used it and enjoyed it but i always wanted to actually ‘understand’ what was happening. I’m like 25 mins in and have already learnt things. This video is clarifying what i know and providing an explanation so i hope to develop better control of the synth. And indeed other synths should i get any. So thanks so much. I wish i could get you a drink to say thanks- oh wait i see that is indeed possible so i will do. cheers . Best wishes to you and yours
Wow. This tutorial was so in-depth and so wildly informative. I just bought the synth a few days ago and I had no clue about lots of the features that you've mentioned. Each time you said "looks like we don't have this here, but look we actually do!" blew my mind. To be honest this took me a few days to watch haha. I'm so excited to get to play with mine, and thank you so much for making this visual manual!!!!! On to the next video.
One of the best and most detailed walkthrough videos I can remember seeing about any topic whatsoever. Taught me a ton about a synth I realized I'd only scratched the surface of!
Thank you so much for your tutorial, which for me has a "aha!" in every chapter, as you explain, what`s the logic behind the scene. Essential! Enjoy your coffee! :-)
Thank you for this massive Tutorial and at the perfect time, too. I just bought this Synth a few days ago because i wanted to learn playing with them, i bought this after a 10 minute consultation in a shop and went for the XD instead of the normal minilogue because it was black instead of silver and i wanted that joystick thingy. I guess i hit the perfect machine on a whim.
This is such an outrageously capable synthesizer for its price. Just when you think you’ve looked at everything, you go and load effects packs and multi-engine mods and you start all over again. Perfect for someone like me who wants a lot of synthesizers but is working in a confined space.
Yes, it's a very capable synth. Said it at the beginning, there is a reason why this is one of the best selling synths of the what, 5 year now ? It's great. I wish it had 6 voices, but for the price, you cannot really complain.
This is absolutely amazing content. I have seen many many synth tutorials the last couple of years, and this one truly stands out for me. Although I am somewhat familiar with basic subtractive as well as FM synthesis, this is a gold mine for people new to those concepts. I just received my minilogue 3 days ago, so this in depth ‘behind the scenes’ view was just what I needed. It is still baffling for me that this synth is so cheap. An analog poly, with FM capabilities, the ability to use custom osc, a sequencer and amazing effects for 600 euros is a steal. I got mine second hand for 400, so i feel like I actually earned money 😂 Only thing I would have liked was more LFOs, but luckily, my Octatrack can fix that :-) Looking forward to the sequencer video!
Yeah, It's a great synth and affordable too. That is why is one of the best selling synth in the world....there is no other way around it. And yea at the back you can expand the LFO'S with external gear, that fixes the LFO issue, which my only complaint about the synth. But well it is affordable, so I cannot really complain. Thanks for the comment.
i'm getting my XD this week - i've been watching as many reviews and tutorials as i can find, and this is just fantastic. thank you so much for putting this together.
@@XNBeatsMusic hiya, i've had it for five days now and loving it so far. this is my first hardware synth - i am a guitarist but have been messing about with Ableton for the past year or so but wanted to break away from the computer. i'm finding it all a little overwhelming right now to be completely honest - but it really is a beautiful machine and i'm really loving the noise i am making so far 🙂
@@_rootsman Been there !! Been playing guitar for 25 years. From Albert king, Pink Floyd, Vaughan all the way to Metallica, Megadeath ... it is a little bit overwhelming at first because is new information. But just like a guitar, more you use it, more you get comfortable and get those calluses. Takes time to adjust, just like everything else :)
I can’t be bothered to do any serious patch organizing on the synth itself… I was very thankful that I found the companion software for the PC. Being able to name and organize your patches with a keyboard and mouse makes life so much simpler.
I have the same synthesizer and I know it pretty well, but I learned a few new features from you. Looking forward to the next sequencer video. I didn't manage to make friends with the minilogue sequencer.
Thanks so much for sharing this very in depth tutorial! I have had the synth for a year- Only just got around to programming synths this month, and was glad that I could understand everything you discussed!
A great tutorial, not only on the Minilogue XD, but also on synthesis in general. I've subscribed, and I'm looking forward watching the next part. Oh, and I just ordered a Minilogue XD module!
wow thanks man. Today's coffee is brought by you :).... and I am finishing a Microfreak guide and an XD Patch series, I really need that coffee. Cheers Patrick !!!
What a great, thorough video. I learned so much. Thank you very very much! You're a great teacher, super clear explanations and very well presented. I feel like neo learning kung fu after watching this video. Thanks again!
Great tutorial, this was very helpful! I just got a minilogue XD and it's my first hardware synth, after this tutorial I'm ready to start experimenting 🙂
thank you for doing these videos - you have covered, in depth, a lot of the synths i own - crave, neutron, td3, K2, this...i am sure there will be more ....THANK YOU
Muchas gracias !!! Es todo un arte tratar de explicar bien, trato de mejorar con cada video. Gracias por el comentario porque si ayuda. Gracias totales !!
Thank you for the thorough walk-thru! Well done👍. One thing I don't understand: If you select a preset and select "Load Panel" and all the knobs & FX change to reflect their current, actual positions....how is anything really being saved?? If I come back the next day and load it, the only way it'll sound like what I saved is if I don't touch anything-just like a traditional analog synth. If I, instead, choose not to "Load Panel," then each knob I tweak will abruptly change the sound until I've gone through and turned each knob to reflect the intended saved patch-just like a traditional analog synth. So, the only way I'm really saving anything is if I never touch anything?
I love my XD but I do wish a few things were different. A numbered section to dial up the patches would have been MUCH better than scrolling on a knob. I also hate that it doesn't start up where you left off, so I really have to remember to include the patch number into the track title of the DAW. Also the Power button must be pressed on every single time, rather than having a switch that stays on and I can turn it on from my power conditioner. The USB Midi function no longer exists through my PC because KORG can't be bothered to update them.
I have not even hit play and I wanna say thanks for the video. I seen your other synth videos and know u will really help make me understand this one. Hope u do a Pro 1 one day.
Excellent tutorial, thank you! Discovered some features I didn't know about.. Just one thing I missed which might be useful to know for others: the "star"-symbol you mentioned in the effects section represents the value of a knob that's stored in the program / patch you've selected. Of course not applicable when you're on an init patch.
Thanks for the comment. Damn, this thing is still giving me thing to learn. One of the best Korg in history if you ask me. After the Arp and the MS20, of course.
Amazing deep dive, thank you so much for pulling together this and the sequencer video, I learnt so much. One thing, is it me or was the portamento knob not mentioned? Not that I can't look it up elsewhere, was just really curious to hear your thoughts on it too 😁
Thanks for the comment, glad to know the video was useful. Well, I make long videos and try to cover a lot of ground. Sometimes I forget things, shxx happens :) . But there is no fixing the upload on youtube, once is recorded, there is no going back.
@@XNBeatsMusic ah of course I totally understand! Do you have any advice on effective ways of using the portamento modulation? Perhaps what it works especially well with? (Sorry I'm a total n00b and learning about synths for the first time 😅)
Are you still having trouble in understanding the scale knob mode? It's actually pretty easy once you get it and the best operating mode in my opinion. Thanks for the video man, cheers
