The BPM setting limitation was driving me nuts! Even if I don't use the loop further down the line, it's been worth watching just to find out you can ramp it or take it lower for other uses. Excellently communicated too. Many thanks.

Very VERY interesting. Thank you for sharing with us! About 5 years ago, with the availability of highly programmable effects devices, I realized that my 35 years of subtractive sound design experience needed to add much more experience in effects chain designs. Highly creative effects designs like yours is improving on subtractive design making more interesting sounds. To me a composer of synthesizer music first job is to create instruments that perfectly match the need of the song score being written. After attempting to be a symphony composer from 1990 to 2000 I decided I wasted those 10 years by trying to "FAKE" people out with a sampled instrument orchestration. Using 90s tech made for horrible sounding symphonies. And even today with millions of sample libraries it is still not to my liking. Today we have the opportunity to create our own instruments and then orchestrate them in a song, this is (should) be the goal of any synthesist. The Synth has opened the door for the ultimate in creativity:
    1) Sound design for creating our own instruments
    2) Effects design for creating our own environment.
    3) A creative score.
    4) Memorable leads and melodies.
    5) Innovative accompaniment, chord structures and progressions.
    6) FM design. Granular design. Modular design. Sample/resample design (sampling our analog synths and layering patches to make gigantic stereo moving images of sound).
    Total creative freedom.

thanks, I've used long delays as loopers for years (4 -10 second ones best) but didn't know how to slow down the XD's 2 sec. delay ceiling via Seq Edit/BPM, very cool tip! Which also applies to very slow tempo Arps, Sequences etcs....so this is a double cool tip, thanks.

Hi Danbo, great tip! another way to get around the metronome is to go into global setting and enable the metronome for real time recording then start real time record and the metronome will start then import your notes to the beat ,stop recording after the first run and delete the notes on the sequencer, the notes played will still keep playing in time, hope that helps

Nice, I do something very similar with Sub 37 patched into a RE20 space echo and then ventris reverb, on Space echo have the delay intensity set to almost max and repeat rate at maximum, echo volume at 4oclock and this goes into a spacey type reverb on ventris, play notes on the sub 37 and they linger hrs if you let them, and you can play over the top all day long adding new things.

Hi Danbo. Thanks for sharing this. Really cool. Love the thought that the layers all eventually fade and the loop is forever evolving.
I just ordered my XD this evening but have a question. Can I use an external metronome and set it to 44 too? Assuming that if I play in time with the external, the Korgs will start as soon as I play, and hence I will be able to keep track of time because of the external?

  • @WildernessMusic_GentleSerene

I would do this delay looping with my 1010Music BlackBox sampler. Just use slightly less complex looping on the Minilogue, and then record five or more different ones for the sample pads on the sampler. Then launch combinations as see what happens. Once you find the combination you like sequence them into a phrase and then play a melody with the Minilogue to the sampler.
