PSA: IF YOU HATE WHAT I SAID ABOUT ENCOUNTERS IN SPACE, I MADE A SECOND VIDEO DEDICATED TO JUST THAT ONE GAME. ua-cam.com/video/DaJfyyM-NR4/v-deo.html (I should have done this months ago lmao.)
The whole "combat on rails" vibe of encounters in space is only when doing certain story missions because its taking you on a plot journey. Other modes have more open movement and it flows and feels great when you get past the awkwardness of the control scheme.
I'm not gonna lie to you, if a game is awkward to play at first, it's highly unlikely I'll keep going, especially if it's first impressions. Also, for entertainment purposes, I can't take too long playing a game if I'm covering multiples like this.
Yeah the one mission in the custom pilot mode where you use a Saberfish during the battle of Loum really shows off how good that control scheme can be once you get used to it.
Man you're so underappreciated. Your videos strike such a good balance between being informative about the games without getting into unnecessary details and they're always really entertaining. Def gonna check a few of these games out, keep it up!

Bro I spend alot of my time with my cousin playing Rengou vs Zaft II Plus. And also Rengou vs Zaft PSP ver too. The story mode is great and there's a lot of mobile suit Cosmic Era to choose when playing free play mode. Rengou vs Zaft is my first gundam game I spend a lot and then I started playing Extreme Vs Full Boost instead.

Hope you touch Battle Assault 3 feat Gundam SEED, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, and Gundam Seed Destiny: Rengou vs. Z.A.F.T. II, those are the games I played the most on PS2
If you ever get the chance I strongly recommend Lost War Chronicles. It takes the basic gameplay style of Journey to Jaburo and perfects it. Everything is more responsive, the camera doesn’t lose track of the enemy every five seconds, it gets rid of the limited ammo system, you can quick switch between targets, and there’s so many other quality of life features it adds. I played JtJ and LWC back to back and it’s insane to me that we never got LWC in the west, because it is literally just JtJ but actually good.
Just FYI after beating the main story in J2J you get tactics battle which is basically a Gundam Vs game with a few different scenarios, it's the real game tbh, you can unlock a bunch of cool suits like the Kampfer, Alex, Blue Destiny units, Gundam Ground Type, Chars versions of all his suits, it's sick.
I know reviews are subjective and it seems like you lean more towards funny but man you did NOT give Encounters in Space a fair shake, that game has so much content, and if you get good at it and get higher scores, you unlock branching paths that give you different cutscenes and secret bosses.
As much as I understand you (and others that have told me the same thing) none of that addresses the fact that I didn't like how the game played from the beginning, so I moved on. Could I have been nicer about it? Sure, but at this point, everyone already knows what's good about it past the point I made it, so the only thing left is my opinion, which is what's in the video. I'm sure there's plenty of people on the site that have said "Encounters good" but that isn't my impression.
Got all of the “good” games when I was younger. The only one I regret not getting was battle assault but just don’t care for its look compared to the ps1 games. Had no idea the seed game and MS saga were even a thing until recently.

Journey to Jaburo was great. All the extra missions and MS after beating story mode was where it really shined. But yeah the controls are clunky but to be fair we didn't know they were clunky at the time. FvZ is still the greatest Gundam game ever and a top 5 PS2 all time game for me.

I've been considering making a gunpla video since my first gundam video, but I lost my kit, and I really never invested in another since. Life's funny like that haha
F.Vs.Z. is the best Gundam game of all time. The movement is realistic, they capture the essence of the 0079 era perfectly, and the gameplay is actually strategic and fun. I would absolutely love a remaster
Technically there is more Gundam games and the only one I own but I'll save which one next time. I saw Never Ending Tomorrow on a self in a store when I was living in Canada, debated about getting it but it was 40 dollars. I laughed, left and bought Pokemon Heartgold. (Federation vs Zeon 2.0, and generally better, but lacks some of the charm so I didn't like it as much)
I really do appreciate you watching, but I made both a Ms Saga video and a video on Battle Assault 3. Be sure to take a look! ❤️ And I'm glad GvZG is one of your favorites.
@@KinzieK You did? I will have to check them out I guess. Everyone talks about Federation vs Zeon, but Gundam vs Zeta Gundam is kind of not often talked about. I guess because it's the sibling of the "original" vs game but not the first? The middle child you can say. I viewed Gundam vs Zeta Gundam like a huge expansion of the first game, all the suits from the first game were present as well as many of the maps, in addition to the massive amount of Zeta Gundam and even some ZZ content in the game. Hence why I said it's arguably better than the original but as I said, it doesn't have the same charm, but if you're just in it for the fighting/battles, not the music, presentation, etc it's definitely a better game than the original. Tragically for good or bad alot of Gundam games never made it outside of Japan. Lost War Chronicles was made by the same people who made Journey to Jaburo. So you can likely say the negative reception to that game killed any chance of it releasing in NA. Lost War Chronicles was well received in Japan. Lost War Chronicles kind of can be summed up as being what Journey to Jaburo should of been. You can tell they took that game's foundation and actually made a better game out of it. Has a very large library of mechs to use as well. You can tell they originally planned on the game getting an NA release as nearly every aspect of the game but voiced dialogue is in English. Interesting part about Journey to Jaburo and Lost War Chronicles, I think they're the only Gundam games that you can see human beings on the ground in some missions. At least to my knowledge. Excluding Gundam Battle Operations 1 and 2 of course as the players are people. Then again, Universal Century Gundam Online as well, but that is a whole other can of warms right there. What I find weird is the Verses games got generally positive reviews, and feed back from players as well, yet none of the Seed verses games made it to NA yet..... YET.. we got Never Ending Tomorrow and Battle Assault 3, both I found terrible. Gundam Seed Vs Zaft II Plus actually looked like fun. I bet the licensing issue with all the music from Seed was a big factor. If I recall and I maybe wrong Never Ending Tomorrow had much of it's OST cut in the NA version. So I can imagine how much of the music from Seed Destiny would of been cut from that game. Which would of really hurt it personally because the pop music from Seed/Destiny was stellar.
I think I own every PS2 Gundam game except Seed and Journey to Jaburo was the first PS2 game I ever got and a gift from my brother so it means a lot to me... but I just want to say it was a blast back then and Zeonic Front is still a damn good game.
Journey to Jaburo was one of my first PS2 games. And honestly it was great. Going through the story is sorta meh, but the extra missions was pretty awesome. It is where I learned how powerful the GM Sniper II was.
4:17 I personally like Andrews Gaia in GSD rengou vs Zaft II. Its unlockable so its wacky in how it fights and Both gaias can't compare from maxi boost
I actually got good at Journey to Jaburo and beat it when I was in middle school. It's back when controls in game aren't always smooth. (tank control in Resident Evil)
It's cool to see fresh eyes on this old lineup after so long. Feels like no one gives these the time of day anymore. That said, _I'mma call out your bs_ (not really): Feddy vs. Zeon: "Solid" is basically how I'd describe it, yeah. Older me wouldn't get much out of it other than a nostalgia trip, but younger me? I was dreaming up battle scenarios against AI in my head *all the damn time.* I got my money's worth out of it and then some, fueled by childhood imagination. Also, yes, that intro is 😩👌. Zeonic Front: Huh, surprised you didn't like this one. It's basically Gundam's take on old Rainbow Six, which is understandably a niche form of real-time strategy that not everyone is gonna click with. I personally loved it since, despite it slower nature, it fits the game's overall design. The character dialogue tucked away in the briefing screens is also real juicy and helped me like Zeon lore that much more. (Everyone knows Mission 06 is the worst gameplay level ever, though, even thought it makes sense lore-wise) Gundam vs. Zeta: I unfortunately missed this one. Looking back on it, though, I feel like it'd give me a similar experience to Feddy vs. Zeon, only way better. I may go back to fill in that gap someday, but idk, FvZ sated that itch for a lifetime. Encounters in Space: Wait, really, you don't like this?? R1/R2 for vertical control is jank, I'll give you that, but I consider this one of their best entries because of how fast, intense, and free-flowing it is (when not on-rails, anyway). This and Rez are my main reasons why I enjoy rail shooters, so this is surprising. Wish you went into more why it rubbed you the wrong way. Journey to Jaburo: Yeah, this just sucks. Never Ending Tomorrow: Never heard of this one. I'm glad I didn't. Even as someone who loves Encounters, this looks like some bastardized mockery of it. This comment would be a dissertation if I tried explaining what I saw wrong with it from your clips. You missed Battle Assault 3, btw. It's a jank and memey attempt at a 3D fighter, but the audiovisuals and soundtrack give it IMMACULATE vibes; I still listen to the OST to this day. Way too much time spent in that game, man. MS Saga is another one, but that deserves its own video. There's... a lot to unpack, both good and bad. Anyway, looking forward to Crossfire! I never played it, but it seems I wasn't missing much, lmfao.
Okaaaaaay I appreciate your thorough examination of my video! Thing about Encounters is that I genuinely just hated how it controlled. I really gave it an honest shot going through the tutorial but I could just never get used to it, so really, that IS how deep it really gets with me lol. Also, i did give MS Saga it's own video. I linked it as it's own video at the end. PS: I thought Zeonic Front was okay, just not personally interesting enough to make its segment as long as Fed vs Zeon.
@@KinzieK Whoops, must've missed that video. Either that or it's been so long that I forgot. lol Completely fair, tho. If the fundamentals of how a game works don't work for someone, ya can't expect them to keep playing. Also fair. If you haven't, though, I def recommend looking up all the briefing conversations in Zeonic. It's solid writing and the dubbing is surprisingly genuine.
This video was great! I honestly would like to see you do a video covering the *Japan-exclusive* ps2 Gundam games as well, if you were ever interested.
I forgot about that Zeta Gundam game. I never came across it in stores and never got to play it, but I'm glad to hear it was better than Encounters in Space. Journey to Jaburo becomes more enjoyable after beating the game, once you get a feel for all the quirks of the clunkliness. I used to play it so much going for S+ in every suit and just leisure. It's too bad we never got Lost War Chronicles. Zeonic Front should be my favorite, but the Dom changes it from challenging to winning before you know it, reducing the replay value when the matches don't have that back-and-forth like Jaburo battles have. Wish I had Federation vs Zeon, it was fun for the few times I played it.
Played all of these games except for Zeonic Front and Journey to Jaburo. Encounters in Space I thought was a pretty awesome game when you get used to the controls. Machines move pretty fast and the multi lock-on was pretty neat. It's also story-wise one of the more expansive action games since it has episodes dedicated to multiple pilots across MSV, Stardust Memory and even Blue Destiny. Fun fact though, this gameplay style is actually something they already did on the PS1 with Char's Counterattack. But if you've heard/played a game called Omega Boost, think of it like that Something to point out regarding the first two Gundam VS games. The first one has Deluxe in it because it's an updated port of the original arcade version. It added zero gravity levels as well as the additional two units for the Federation side, the Gundam Ground Type and the GM Ground Type. Also, the song that plays in that intro stage is Ai no Senshi, it's one of the theme songs from the Gundam movie trilogy. Gundam VS Zeta Gundam's big change was introduced alongside the gimmick of the mobile suits of that series; alt modes. Nearly all of the units in the game can transform into a high-speed flight mode that gives them a major advantage over the other suits that can't. Like FVZ, GVZ added new content to the PS2 version, namely the unlockable ZZ mode which nets you the titular ZZ Gundam, and Qubeley Mk II alongside their pilots and the theme song Anime ja Nai. Its story mode is also a point of interest because aside from following the source material, it also lets you do what-if scenarios where you get different paths and endings based on who died or lived at that point, like what if Four survived,or if Amuro joined the Titans. Never Ending Tomorrow was....yeah, a bit rough. I feel like it should have been a way flashier version of Encounters in Space, but for whatever reason, they made the melee combat system such a slog where it plays more like a rock-paper-scissors RPG as opposed to a hack-n-slash kind of thing. This is also the only time any of the Astray characters get an English dub
I recall there was a Gundam RPG on PS2 which was surprisingly well made. It was the first game that I'm aware of that you can mix body parts and weapons from tons of units making for a real deep game, though the RPG engine is ultimately flawed.
Im gonna try making a vidoe to signal boost your videos. youtube been showing me a bunch of gundam stuff, and i randomly clicked on this... hilarious. making a note to try and make a short about this video
Okay, can I be real? I didn’t know much of the lore of OG gundam before Federation vs Zeon and I feel offended many decades later because it feels like Zeon is the story of the United States but they shunted the war crimes up in the story.
Unfortunately, X Play which is a game review show from back then and recently came back, they hated Anime and their games. They admitted that Gundam, Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Anime in general sucks because in their eyes the stories made no sense. They literally called fans idiots for liking Anime and their games.
I've thought about it, and I don't think I'll make a video about it. I think my previous SRW video kinda already says what I would have said about it in a way
You missed Battle Assault 3 featuring Gundam SEED. Also, I liked Encounters in Space so I tolerated Neverending Tomorrow but, another frustrating fact about it: the Japanese version actually uses music from the anime but they didn't want to pay to license it for the U.S. release so instead it's filled with a bunch of generic, non-anime music from older Gundam games. Also, even though it features ground based level, no one has a walk/run animation except Strike, and only on the first mission of the story mode.
MS saga new dawn would like a mention otherwise great video, gundam vs zeta gundam is my favorite with it's gameplay (except team ai being bad) and what if scenarios
What annoys me is that the PS5 has been out for 4 years and we only have 4 Gundam games released for it, 1 of them is permanently dead, 2 of them are multi platform. There was over 10 Gundam games released for the PS2 in just the first 4 years alone, with only a few making a appearance on the GameCube. I hate modern gaming with a passion
Yes and no. I have covered Super Robot Wars T (whether that counts is up to you), Gihren's Greed in the gundam reborn video, and rengou vs zaft in the crossfire video. 👌🏽
Vs. series was and is the pinnacle in entirety of Gundam games because the mechanics stayed the same and that's one solid balancing and was geared towards, well, players versus. PSP's Battle series was a mixed bag, but those eventually turned to Breaker in a way, so they paved their proper way over the years. All other, unique to these formulas, titles were overall meh if not jank right up until Battle Operation series.

Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic Front (PS2 basically Rainbow 6 Gundam, and I mean OG Rainbow Six before they became shooters)
Mobile Suit Gundam Gundam vs Zeta Gundam.
Randomly found this channel and I'm glad I did
Happy to have you here
@@KinzieK happy to be here
yes a new kinziek video!
aww i was hoping to see Mobile Suit Gundam: Lost War Chronicles great vid tho
LMAO the "Play Star Ocean 3" edits are sending me
THEY WILL WORK ON SOMEBODY ISTG
I actually liked Encounters in Space, but I also played it around the time when it came out and haven’t touched it since.
Before i even get to number 1, gundam zeonic front is the best, no arguments needed, you're wrong anyways.❤
Don't worry, we're both wrong 😘
@@KinzieK perfectly balanced, as all things should be 🥴
14:03 is golden lmao I can't stop thinking about it 😂
I think I own every PS2 Gundam game except Seed and Journey to Jaburo was the first PS2 game I ever got and a gift from my brother so it means a lot to me... but I just want to say it was a blast back then and Zeonic Front is still a damn good game.
We got only 1 of these in the uk fed vs zeon , I loved it I’d have really liked to play the others
It's cool to see fresh eyes on this old lineup after so long. Feels like no one gives these the time of day anymore. That said, _I'mma call out your bs_ (not really):
Feddy vs. Zeon:
"Solid" is basically how I'd describe it, yeah. Older me wouldn't get much out of it other than a nostalgia trip, but younger me? I was dreaming up battle scenarios against AI in my head *all the damn time.* I got my money's worth out of it and then some, fueled by childhood imagination. Also, yes, that intro is 😩👌.
Zeonic Front:
Huh, surprised you didn't like this one.
(Everyone knows Mission 06 is the worst gameplay level ever, though, even thought it makes sense lore-wise)
Gundam vs. Zeta:
I unfortunately missed this one. Looking back on it, though, I feel like it'd give me a similar experience to Feddy vs. Zeon, only way better. I may go back to fill in that gap someday, but idk, FvZ sated that itch for a lifetime.
Encounters in Space:
Wait, really, you don't like this?? R1/R2 for vertical control is jank, I'll give you that, but I consider this one of their best entries because of how fast, intense, and free-flowing it is (when not on-rails, anyway). This and Rez are my main reasons why I enjoy rail shooters, so this is surprising. Wish you went into more why it rubbed you the wrong way.
Journey to Jaburo:
Yeah, this just sucks.
Never Ending Tomorrow:
Never heard of this one.
Either that or it's been so long that I forgot. lol
Completely fair, tho. If the fundamentals of how a game works don't work for someone, ya can't expect them to keep playing.
Also fair. If you haven't, though, I def recommend looking up all the briefing conversations in Zeonic. It's solid writing and the dubbing is surprisingly genuine.
Gundam Battle Universe for the PSP was AWESOME. I don't think it ever released in the west though
0:44 😂 Yeah weird but in a lovable way.
This video was great! I honestly would like to see you do a video covering the *Japan-exclusive* ps2 Gundam games as well, if you were ever interested.
I decided to stick to mostly English due to convenience. I covered RvZ in the crossfire video tho.
What about MS Saga: a new dawn?
Already covered it in it's own video. Check the Season 1 playlist. 😊
Really enjoy this content of niche anime games
Not a ps2 game but gundam side story blue destiny for the sega Saturn is a amazing game
But if you've heard/played a game called Omega Boost, think of it like that
Something to point out regarding the first two Gundam VS games.
Seems legit. Ill try to try em sometime.
God this video was good. Also points for MF DOOM
You already KNOW what it is 👌🏽
@@KinzieK yessss lad
I would play Journey over Encounters any day. I get hemorrhoids just thinking about Encounters!
Hi Kinzie!
*gasp* THE RedTopics just said hi to me! Hello!
I recall there was a Gundam RPG on PS2 which was surprisingly well made. It was the first game that I'm aware of that you can mix body parts and weapons from tons of units making for a real deep game, though the RPG engine is ultimately flawed.
If you mean MS Saga, I also did a video on it that you can check out
@@KinzieK yes! That's it! I have fond memories of this game which I finished 100% including the side boss which I recall was God Gundam.
Im gonna try making a vidoe to signal boost your videos. youtube been showing me a bunch of gundam stuff, and i randomly clicked on this... hilarious. making a note to try and make a short about this video
Oh wow that would be genuinely sick! I really appreciate you choosing my video. That makes my day fr ☺️
if i can come up with something or youtube lets me remix the video into a short gotchu for sure@@KinzieK
What is the bgm playing at 12:00? It sounds so familiar
SMT Nocturne - Mystery
I will try to play star ocean 3
6:59 Did you even use the mad rock gundam?
Content 👌🏾
Okay, can I be real? I didn’t know much of the lore of OG gundam before Federation vs Zeon and I feel offended many decades later because it feels like Zeon is the story of the United States but they shunted the war crimes up in the story.
Unfortunately, X Play which is a game review show from back then and recently came back, they hated Anime and their games. They admitted that Gundam, Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Anime in general sucks because in their eyes the stories made no sense. They literally called fans idiots for liking Anime and their games.
Zeonic front was my favorite I've beat it about 7 times
Gundam Battle Assault 2 kinda awesome.
With coop + dual hyper attack that turns a fighting game to fps game
You missed one of the best PS2 Gundam games btw. MS Sagas. A JRPG where you get to customize your MS and use them on an adventure.
ua-cam.com/video/Uz-IT4C1Xlw/v-deo.html
Have you got around to looking at Super Robot Wars 30 yet?
I've thought about it, and I don't think I'll make a video about it. I think my previous SRW video kinda already says what I would have said about it in a way
Journey to jaburo hooked me on it's reanimated cut scenes, and then made me play it for hours once I realized it's kind of stupid. Love that game.
Was I crazy I thought Battle Assault 3 was on the PS2 and died on the PS2, leaving GUndam VS to be the sole gundam fighting game forever more?
It was. I did a separate video on it though. You're not crazy.
Any thoughts on Battle Assault 3?
I made a video on it.
You forgot MS Saga New Dawn
I didn't. Check my channel.
@@KinzieK based
Dont please, not in the memories.
There were even some knock off gundam type games that were pretty good back then
Bro the intro for Zeonic is A1, are you playing on an emulator?
You missed Battle Assault 3 featuring Gundam SEED.
Also, I liked Encounters in Space so I tolerated Neverending Tomorrow but, another frustrating fact about it: the Japanese version actually uses music from the anime but they didn't want to pay to license it for the U.S. release so instead it's filled with a bunch of generic, non-anime music from older Gundam games. Also, even though it features ground based level, no one has a walk/run animation except Strike, and only on the first mission of the story mode.
Great video. you should do this for the PSP Version please
Zeonic front isy favorite.
Ms saga:a new dawn,an actual good Gundam game on ps2
No idea how I missed that the first time round but ... Play Star Ocean 3!
Federation vs zeon one of my favorites games 😅
The ps1 gundam game was really good
MS saga new dawn would like a mention otherwise great video, gundam vs zeta gundam is my favorite with it's gameplay (except team ai being bad) and what if scenarios
Check my channel, and you'll find your ms saga mention 😁
4:30 Me: 😲🤯😂🤣😵
My wife:😐😑🏃♀️➡️
What annoys me is that the PS5 has been out for 4 years and we only have 4 Gundam games released for it, 1 of them is permanently dead, 2 of them are multi platform.
There was over 10 Gundam games released for the PS2 in just the first 4 years alone, with only a few making a appearance on the GameCube. I hate modern gaming with a passion
Come back to us Kinzie!
Ah. You only covered Gundam games that made it to the west.
I love never ending tomorrow. And the game is so easy, i dunno how you struggle even if you hate it. Only the fight with haro was the hard one
Play Star Ocean 3

I had to search this shit. I'm about to review badgers and shit now 😂😂
