I don’t understand people saying, “oh I didn’t play this game because I don’t know what Tatsunoko is,” that shouldn’t matter, at least it didn’t matter to me, the characters looked so cool and vibrant on the Tatsunoko side that I didn’t care and was super interested in learning about them, that’s what makes it a great fighting game.

for me it was the only relatively modern crossover fighting game I could get till I was able to afford an xbox 360 and play MvC3. still a great game and the opening theme is one of the best.

Exactly, Tatsunoko is practically Japan's Hanna Barbara. I guess they never heard of Samurai Pizza Cats (Although they're not in the game), Tekkaman and G-Force/Gatchaman.

Playing this after seeing Casshan Sins on Toonami made me all bright eyed about this. Still one of my favorite characters in the game. This even made me look up Who Karas and Tekkaman Blade was, because they were soooo coool!

@@jdrmanmusiqking Basically, it comes from the days when wrestling was a carny thing. A "mark" was the term back then for a person who had fallen for a scam, since they'd be "marked" as someone you or your buddies could potentially scam further. In terms of wrestling, it means someone who's falling for the "scam" of wrestling--meaning, someone who thinks that pro wrestling is real. Since that's not very common these days, it's usually used to refer to people who are just really deep, unironic fanboys of wrestling and love the whole thing. This is often contrasted with "smarks" (smart marks) who know the business and that it's all fake, but still show up to watch wrestling anyway because they think it looks cool.

Rooting for Tatsu Cap to get some love in a Capcom Fighting Collection 3 some day.
Truly the "Forgot About Dre" of the VS series. I think a re-release would not only shock people but also give this game a new lease on life with rollback on newer platforms. It's a good looking game but man it could use a resolution boost.

Good catch; this would be perfect for Capcom Fighting Collection 3. They acknowledged Rival Schools/Project Justice and Power Stone with that new collection they announced, so I’m convinced anything is possible. Couple that with the Marvel and SNK collabs returning, if the stars were ever to align, it would be now. A game like this one doesn’t deserve to be lost to the past.

I'm still watching the video so I don't know if you mention it anywhere but 90% of the Tatsunoko characters in the roster had their designs done by Yoshitaka Amano, the artist for Front Mission, Vampire Hunter D and the first 6 Final Fantasy games. These were done as his first ever gigs in the industry and a lot of it is inspired by the art of DC Comics, particularly that of Neal Adams whose a personal favourite of Amano.
Amano did an art exhibit sometime ago in my city and there were tons of Tatsunoko art on display, mostly those of Gatchaman and Casshern, and it blows my mind to know that there's a Capcom game with ties to him.

Doronjo's a pretty interesting character, by the way. The story behind her is that she and her gang were meant to be the villains of Yatterman, but they were just so wacky and likeable that they ended up being the most iconic part of it instead. It got to the point that they did a recent sequel series and had it be from the POV of their descendants. And if you watch anime aimed at kids, you see that same archetype of a gang of endearing comedy-relief villainous henchmen crop up a lot--Team Rocket in particular stole a LOT of their shtick from the Doronbo gang.

Problem was the game only released stateside on the Wii and the online was unplayable. I kept holding out for a ps3 release that would never come. Hurts especially because i grew up watching Tekkaman blade or "Teknoman" on TV and would later go on to play hundreds of hours of project justice with friends as a Batsu main, so my team is already set lol. Hopefully these upcoming capcom fighting collections will see enough success to warrant them to release this as well. It's now or never guys, make sure to get your copies, if you have any interest in seeing this re-released.

I think the most interesting aspect of TvC who stands out over the MvC games is the Cool Down mechanic who forces the players to thing when and how to use their partner. MvC tournaments (specially UMvC3) are a battle of assistences, who make the matches not so fun to watch. TvC, in the other hand, priorises the 1v1 battle, and the assistences are just assistences as the name says. Any game who offer assistence could have a Cool Down mechanic, just like Aqua Pazza and Nitroplus Blasters. KoF2000 could be a fairer game if the striker system could offer a Cool Down mechanic.

    • @ShinUltima
      @ShinUltima 8 днів тому

First, assists in MvC2 and [U]MvC3] do have cool downs. They might be shorter than TvC, but they still exist. They also have numerous restrictions (e.g. each assist can only be called once per combo, can't be called during specials/supers, can't be called during super jumps, etc), though veterans know when and when not to use them. PLayers unfamiliar with the game might think it's spamming, but at high level, it's anything but.
Second, MvC2/[U]MvC3 are team-based games, and the assists are _the_ major contributors to that (though not the only ones). TvC is closer in style to MvC1 or MSHvSF, where it was more 1 on 1 on 1 on 1, with off-screen characters not playing as important a role and team mechanics being less prominent.
You might have a preference, but many people prefer the team-based nature of MvC2/[U]MvC3 to the older extended 1 on 1.

i can't say it's the most underrelated because it's part of a major series and even made it to an evo main title position. This isn't to say it isn't the most underrated marvel game, but when you look at all the other fighting games out there with interesting mechanics and strong player counters, tvc is too well loved and received to be truly underrated. that's also ignoring the fact everyone who talks about TvC (including myself) tend to sing it with praise, including non fgc friends of mine.
That said despite the click bait title i enjoyed the video. thanks for making it.

TVC is absolutely underrated. Speaking of other underrated FGs, a favorite FG of mine that is super underrated is Gundam Battle Assault 2. It feels clunky if you don’t know how to play, but it speeds up when you know what you’re doing. There are also 4 giant characters. Since it was PS1, it has no online, so not a lot of people played it. TVC had SF4 as its big rival, which is huge, but GBA2 came out during the Capcom dark ages or over saturation of fighting games. It is not a tag fighter, but it is the only Gundam FG that features mobile suits from G-Gundam. It also has the real English voice actors. Definitely check it out if you’re a fan of Gundams, giant characters, or just underrated FGs.

    I know Karas!
It was the most crazy looking anime back in 2006. I remember it was so high fidelity it was only encoded in h.264 and my PC couldn't handle it before GPU drivers eventually added support for it xD

Sorry for the U.S audience, but at least in my country, Costa Rica, we had the chance to know some of the tatsunoko characters at the end of the 80s and through the 90s, so when this gem of a game appeared some of us were really interested. Is a fact that latin america had a more diverse catalog regarding anime than other regions.

4:07 Yeah, Nobuyuki Hiyama is an amazing voice actor for the hot blooded types of characters. Batsu was a perfect fit for him.
But did you know he also voices Dimitri from Darkstalkers? Yes, he can do the arrogant royal types too!
If you've played Project X Zone, you'd be surprised at just how different these two can sound, despite having the same voice actor.

TvC is the one fighting game I've ever been able to truly get invested in and have fun with. I loved seeing all the obscure (especially for the US) anime characters having such incredible movesets taken from their source material, and all the characters feeling very good to sit down with as a casual player. Spent a lot of hours over at a friends house as we both just smashed buttons at one another, gradually learning combos and understanding movesets.
My fondest memory of the game is going on a winning streak as I learned a Roll string that ended with her healing Super, allowing me to win extended 1v1 despite being the worse player, only to see my streak shattered once my friend discovered the healing pellet could just be destroyed in mid-air.

I remember when I was a kid around 9 and would go to my dad’s house for the weekends he one day showed me a game he “borrowed” from a friend. That game was TvC and boy o boy did I fall in love quickly. I would often ask him if I could bring it back home but he said I couldn’t because it was borrowed. Long story short he got sent back to our country and it took years before I even saw him again but he took everything with him even the borrowed copy of TvC and I asked him if I could bring it back home for memories and he said sure. Although I don’t okay it I keep it with me as a core memory of my childhood

These type of titles need an: “In America” because it was well received elsewhere. I owned a copy. Just didn’t like how it played but looking back, it wasn’t so bad honestly. Didn’t realize how hilariously broken some of the characters could be (Roll). I’d try it again if I could.

i used to live on a beach resort with my 2 best friends. we worked our asses during the day and had a wii. and this was our only fighting game. There was a Tatsunoko vs Capcom era on our life just before everyone discovered skyrim once we got a pc. I have nothing but love and great memories with this game and I`m not even that much of a gamer... much less a FG player. I`m an Arcanum and heroes of might & magic guy, but I do remember some tatsunoko from my youth in Argentina, we had a couple of the shows here. Gatchaman was huge.

I remember losing my mind when TVC was first announced and then became sad when I heard it was Japan exclusive. Of course, when Ultimate All-stars was revealed, I lost my mind harder not only because it was getting an international release, but Zero was being added. Hopefully TVC can return at some point with rollback and crossplay.

I remember seeing this game played by way back in the day by the youtuber Shadow759. I thought it looked so cool! I had to get it myself so I did. I Believe I honestly played this game more than MVC3. And I was just a kid in middle school who had no idea what he was doing. But I adored Karas and Tekkaman Blade even though I had no idea who they were. But it got me interested in Tatsunoko and introduced me to Capcom series I had no idea about like Volnutt, Onimusha, and Dead Rising. I'm hoping with all these VS games getting remasters we might be able to see TVC get one as well. Hell maybe even a Sequel. For me at least this was my VS game back in the day.
