In this video, I reviewed the Nikon AF-S 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E fisheye lens and also compared it to the Nikon AF 16mm f/2.8D fisheye lens.
How does this latest fisheye lens perform and what is the image quality like compare to the old Nikkor fisheye?
Camera Gear used to shoot this video:
Panasonic G85 | Panasonic 12-60mm kit lens

Thank you Richard for explaining and comparing those fisheye lenses.
Excellent review! It helped me decide and I just bought one, just for fun mainly and a learning experience.
Oh Thanks! This is one of my very early, old review. Glad it is still useful 🙂
Is the new 8mm-15mm f/3.5 an FX lens and can it be used with Nikon D750 full frame?
great one richard thank you
Glad you like it Parker. :)
nice review. thank you
Thank you! And go check out some of my newer video as well if you got some free time :)
Looks like a unique lens. Having a decent standard fisheye performance + a uncropped fully circular image without modifying anything on top of it is pretty neat, I think. And the short min focus distance for creative super wide angle semi-macro shots (think thats the only reason why AF makes sense here) sounds like fun!
Very comprehensive and digestable video :) Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
Would be interesting to find out if the 8mm image is advantageous for (spherical) panoramas, in terms of coverage and stitching etc. I love the Samyang (or whatever brand) 8mm f/3.5 for DX for this purposes, it was really a game changer for me for panorama work and it's a steal (great money/value ratio, I find).
Thanks for watching :)
Do you think the new 8mm-15mm is better if it built with VR?
Hard to say.. the benefit of adding vr to a fisheye is quite minimal compare to the cost (price, size, complexity of the optics design)
Is the Hood réversible?
Sorry it's being a while, but from memory no.
I have one of these and though I was very disappointed when I got it and found out that it is largely made of plastic, the optics on it are superb and it is almost impossible to get it to ghost, even with a bright sun in the frame.
I definitely prefer the construction of the old school Nikkor lens. But yeah the lens optical quality is really good
@@TheRealRichardWong I could take my 200mm f/2 ED IF AIS Nikkor and smash that AFS Nikkor to pieces and not even scratch the paint.
