It was super easy
Barely an inconvenience
Oh really?
That is the genius of Ryan George. The only thing missing was wasp Ryan saying, "but why???" Then it pans to Producer Ryan at another table saying, "because money!"
I second this, it blew me away!
"I like your style...I like YOUR style!" The parallel drawn between the destructive behavior of wasps and the algorithmic patterns that drive social media engagement is brilliant. Ryan's on another level.
Wauw! I hadn't seen it that way. Cool!

Very good
Does it go deeper? When we acknowledge that most wasp species get a bad rap and that most of their viciousness is basically heresay, is there a deeper point being played out?
@@lukedogwalker If, to go deeper, "WE" must acknowledge that sentiment--then, no. It doesn't lol. My experiences with wasps haven't been the sort that allow me to refer to them as gracious creatures, if disturbed. But that's just my humble opinion :)
Where can I get a job giving people handfuls of wasps?
Become a politician and you can tell them it's not wasps. And when they eventually get stung you can say it wasn't you who gave them the wasps and say it was someone who worked for you but they've been disciplined and fired and it's terrible that they did that (while pocketing money from pest control)
You don't just "give" them wasps. Those are samples.

The whole line of thought reminds me of the song scapegoat by atmosphere or this quote by Terry pratchett

Yeah, yeah, yeah! Turns out people now do something called hate watching, which is where they spend their time watching something they hate, increasing that video's ad revenue and driving engagement up by commenting how the video wasted their time.
But didn't they just chose to waste their own time? It's not like someone forced them to click the video.
Yes, of course, but admitting that you did anything wrong is sooo 20th century. They will get mad at the video and spend more time watching other videos like it.
Don't they understand that the channel that uploaded the video profits of that? I mean it's very easy to look that fact up.
Looking things up? Sir, it's 2021, no one even knows what that means anymore. Get with the time and get angry when you don't understand something!
@@creativedesignation7880 It's not always hate-watching though. Every negative story a news outlet shows is designed to attract you attention and often invoke an emotion of anger, fear, etc. that makes you more likely to make the viewer or reader continue being fed this stuff. Hate-watching is completely separate from this topic as hate-watching is not some news covering the thing you hate it's just the content. Hate-watching is if a Democrat was to watch a Trump rally which isn't a common thing for someone to do whats more likely is a Democrat will watch a CNN bit that invokes anger in them about said Trump rally.

This is probably my favorite video on UA-cam. Simultaneously hilarious and incredibly enlightening about social media and litterally society as a whole. Wow wow wow... wow.
I actually love how the algorithm thing just points out how it’s an incredibly stupid and flawed system rather than this conspiracy that it’s trying to shove people into boxes they don’t wanna be in but are still being shoved it. Like the algorithm is just stupid, never attribute to malice what can be explained by apathy and/or stupidity
Or the desire for profit.
Hm, I wouldn't say _every_ algorithm has a bias, but it is obvious that at least _some_ people want to use them to spread their views on the world.
Look at the censorship system on social apps. In theory, this is to avoid people from insulting each other and using bad language. But in practice, the guys writing those systems can add whatever they want. Ever heard of that pedophile's daughter working at Reddit? She had worked on the "blacklist" of Reddit to erase anything surrounding her father, to bury his dark secret. *That was no accident, she had purposefully used the censorship system of Reddit to hide something.*
Now that's just a random person in the world trying to help her father's reputation. Do you really think politicians and activists don't want to use those systems to push their agendas?
Why not both at the same time? Never let a crisis go to waste, and if you can notice one brewing and make it worse, all the better.
It's mostly apathy. If you're interested in learning more about how exactly it all came about I highly recommend the documentary The Social Dilemma, I watched it on Netflix, idk what else it's available on
I feel bad for Ryan he’s the only one who can’t look forward to watching a new Ryan George video

Internet and politic debates in a nutshell
UA-cam's algorithm comes up with some pretty unfortunate ad placement sometimes. Today I watched a video about a guy in England who made a cute little Hobbit-style village for mice in his garden. It was preceded by an ad for pest control!
And back in December when that RV blew up in Nashville, every time I watched a video about it, I'd get ads for RVs.
I got a Liquor Land add on an article about how alcohol destroys lives
There was a band called Birth of Joy. After I checked some of their music I got loads of baby product ads😂 I just thought it was funny.
I sure would love to live in one right after seeing it blow the heck up
uBlock Origin keeps me safe and protected like a warm blanket!!!
That is not unfortunate at all, that is on purpose. UA-cam will match advertisers to videos containing the tags the advertiser wants to be associated with.
That is for example why you will always get Monsanto ads on anything critical of Monsanto, cause they decided they want to create a counter narrative right where they are criticised and youtube provides them with the infrastructure to do that.
By the same logic someone selling alcohol might anticipate to make the bigger profit, if they get 20 alcoholics to relapse as opposed to getting 20 random people interested in their product.
Sometimes the ads don't land perfectly, like with that pest control ad, but often the choices are made very deliberately, like with that RV. Worried your RV will blow up? Better buy a new one.

To be fair, wasps get rid of spiders and like, half the internet is grateful. Not me though. I know The Story From North America.
Someone needs to get Al Gore to release a music album named "Rhythms".
i love this
Spelling didn't make the list.
Ok the beginning got me. “It sounds like your saying was, an then trying to tell me a secret.”
“WasPPPSSS, oh dang it.”
🤣🤣🤣
Wilderness survival books would be funny to someone who lives in outer space. "So it's guide to surviving...on a planet that's full of water and air and edible plants and animals...sure"
Okay, but how are we going to explain Ryan George?
julie nolke but a male
A guy that roleplays on the Internet to make people's day better
Itll be easy, Other Dimension Guy has the same face as our dimension Ryan
So we have this guy who explains things to himself for an extended period of time and let me tell you it's just hilarious
The best comedian to ever multiply himself.
I love how Ryan just always presents reall world issues in the form of comedic sketches
News feed algorithm guy acting was super good. Please do a villian role in some movie
Agreed!
That's why Dr Strange warn Peter not to play around with the multiverse.
"Well first of all the algorithm would show you an ad..."
"What was that?"
He asked this because he doesn't know what ads are... imagine a dimension without wasps and ads...
So heaven?
No internet though...
Worth the trade-off?
@@ceilinh6004 Internet is overrated if you never experienced it
That would also mean that television doesn't have ads, which is cool.
@@pastasoo They did experience the internet though. Remember he said it just never caught on cause they didn't like the dial up modem noise and instead of making the internet better they just stopped using it.
Guy from other dimensions: "so what cool stuff u have in here"
Australia: "hold my beer"
s p i d e r s e a s o n : like a white winter but spiders
"Hold my beeh"
Guy from other dimension: Well fine ok...what do I do now?
Well you know about birds wars
"Crap, now I spilled beer on my pants. Why was it upside down?"
After the Echo Chamber he's going to be talking to a totally not FBI agent who will try to convince him to participate in unsavory actions against the people who are different than him
Establishes wasps as evil. Then has the spokesperson for wasps admire the News Feed Algorithm.
Well played, sir. Well played.
I was going to recommend Ryan George audition for SNL, but what he does on this channel is funnier and more clever than any of their sketches I’ve seen recently. Just great!
At least on UA-cam Ryan has his own creative control over content. I don’t think he would be so lucky at SNL.
@Josh Turner you’re right I should not have insulted Ryans channel by mentioning SNL in the same sentence
@@pat7917 I mean they have quite a bit of creative control at SNL when people get to write their own sketches.
@Josh Turner well SNL usually gets a touch more plus people who watch it live but it’s certainly close on UA-cam
SNL haven't wanted to employee actually funny and creative people in decades. They wouldn't want him, and he shouldn't want them to want him.
Those 206 people can dislike this video but "engagement is engagement to the algorithm" so now you're just gonna get more Ryan all the same.
206 facebook employees :P
But nowadays, they don't even *show* you how many dislikes there are!
@@HansLemurson Don't have to. Engagement is engagement.
Dammit, now I did it, too.
Dislikes? What are those?
Ah must be nice knowing the dislikes in your timeline i guess ;_;
Today I learned not to kill wasp because with it's final breath it apparently let's out a war cry that urges its brethren to fight harder than before.
The fact he didn't call this a dimension convention was a serious missed opportunity.
What's so funny about dimension conventions
I like how this doesn't even sway one way or another but attacks "My side is the Good Side" in general. That's something a lot of people forget, is that EVERY group has its monsters
It's a universal mentality of humans in general. Aren't we special ? :)
Not my group. We're right.
Though those who have the least reality on their side have to push those emotional buttons.
Every group of politicians and their voters are corrupt, but only one side tried to overthrow the government. Both sides is a fallacy, and false balance a thing.
I vote for sending a shipping container full of wasps to the algorithm guys of every single social network. Including UA-cam.
This just in: Wasps discovered as a new target democraphic in the war for eye facettes.
Especially UA-cam.
One of my favorite Ryan sketches. Brilliant structure, hilarious dialogue Rayan at his best. I want this as a continuing series.
How did I miss this one? I really like the concept. And it really makes me think.
If you’re taking requests, I’d like to see more like this and the time-travel ones.
This is funny but tragic. The saddening part is that I bet a large proportion of people watching this is going to have a reaction along the lines of "yeah, those people who disagree with me are in an echo chamber, it's unacceptable," 100% missing the point. It's seductive. I even bet a bunch of people could read this comment right here and still think it's about other people and not them.
So what other people are YOU picturing in their echo chamber, whilst sitting in YOUR echo chamber? 😂
I'm asking so I can know if I can like this comment or not 😆
@@jessszabo5049 You know, those other disagreeing people who aren't me 😃 duh
My problem is that everything outside my echo chamber is the opposing echo chamber. Sadly, I'm barely being ironic here.
Sorry to say but if you're suggesting that absolutely everyone is affected without exception then you're wrong.
@@cenciende9401 Based on your earlier comments you are clearly not unaffected.
I love how when Ryan touches "politics" he always does it in an elegant, clever, subtle way..
Elegant and clever maybe, but this sketch couldn't get any less subtle.
I think the strength of the sketch is more from the fact that it is rather dry and unbiased explanation of social media radicalization. It strays away from examples that would alienate audiences that have unknowingly fallen into echo chambers, the exact people that really need a reminder of this sort of thing.
If this passes as subtlety these days, then I guess a pack of elephants stampeding through a store selling antique fine china is the peak of subtlety.
@@Banazama but the algorithm part wasn’t directly referencing radicalized groups it was referencing the concept of Facebook and Twitter social circles becoming echo chambers of agreeing or applauding the ego because you get into groups of similar thought. This happens to pretty much every group not just flat earthers. Left, Right, Authoritarian, or libertarian, the whole political compass is the precursor to tribe mentality around political ideology that the algorithm and social media has helped flat earthers and pig fuckers to find communities to help justify their actions or thoughts. That’s there are people still convinced Biden has been the best so far, why some believe trump never made a single mistake, why some still think the cake is real.
@@theactualbobross5556 No disagreement there.
@@theactualbobross5556 Wait, are you saying the cake is a lie?! By the gods! This upsets and confuses me!
I watched one of his skits this morning, have never seen him before. Don’t think I liked commented or subscribed this morning. Got served this gem just now. The algorithm just knows.
Subbed.
Please bring this back as a series!!
