I owned a 456m for 11 years. “Money Pit” is too kind a description. Even with very low mileage, be prepared to replace the valve guides (watch for smoke) at around $10-12K, over and above the $10k major service. Replace the motor mounts with the upgraded 575 mounts before they collapse. You will soon have a gap in between the driver side window and the door frame if you don’t already. A very fiddler fix that will need to be redone every year or so until you finally have to replace the mechanism entirely. The alarm will die due to a corroded battery. Fortunately the Corvette alarm is identical, just a slightly different sound. The 456 also has a moveable spoiler which was replaced with a fixed spoiler in the M, because it was unreliable. On the other hand, it’s beautiful and fast and sings like an angel at high revs....
Dammit! Now this will go up in value. I've been eyeing these for years, after the Testarossa and 512TR market blew up years back. The 456 and 550 Maranello are so slept on

The manuals were quite a lot quicker too (according to Car & Driver magazine), the auto only managed to run a 14.0@102mph quarter mile while the manual pulled a 13.3@107, much more respectable number, the autos are BARELY quicker than a lowly 350Z!
Nice Find a Ferrari that's seemingly style fused with 1990's JDM Cars it looks like both a Ferrari and a Toyota
What...? It looks like a Pininfarina car.
I remember when this GT came out. As a teen loved it, still do!
I cant stop looking at the fact the headlight doesn't sit right
Thank you. I was starting to think I was the only person that's slowly being driven insane by that.
Looks ok in the listing pictures. Wonder what happened?
I’ve always wondered about importing cars and the fine print, I’d love to import a Mexican Beetle to the US if it wasn’t tremendously expensive. A whole lot newer and less possibility of rust would be really nice!
This is one of the examples where Rare does not equal more valuable. :)
A mistake many people make, they conflate 'Rare' with 'Desirable' and that is not always the case.
I used to be a mechanic if he thinks the mini is bad news the 456 is even worse
@@adamski5977 Ehh, at the end of the day its still a freaking 400+hp V12 Ferrari with a shifter that goes clink clink clink into gears. Its not some worn out POS BMW commuter car that somebody paid an extra $10,000 for some special badges and stripes when it was new.
Just want to say before even watching the video I absolutely love the 456 and especially with the manual. The color and story just add to it
Yes! That is a lovely, lovely, lovely car!!!
Wow Hoovie. That 456 is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen. Congratulations. Have fun. Thanks for all you do.
13:52 -- Hoovie does his Keanu Reeves impression.
My god look at that shop. Gunna say this now for Hoovie and Car Wizard, these are the good old days for you guys right now.
3 Lambos, 2 Ferraris , Maybock , Many M-Bs Hot Rods, Bentleys, personal mechanic . Beautiful Trophy Wife, Great Kids . Amazing Houses.... It's good to be Tyler Hoover......
I would agree on you except for the trophy wife part.
They've been together for a very long time, their daughter must be 8+ years old.
So they're probably together for way over 10 years
The only reason I say trophy is that she is beautiful enough to be one ... The good life
456 is among the top 5 Ferrari all time , and my personal favorite, nobody can convince me otherwise , it is just to perfect
Well at least it’s from a dry climate. And since it also was in Japan it was well taken care of.
You are joking , right...?
You seriously think japanese people takes care of their cars like a clockwork? Man japanese guys trash around their cars since yearly inspection won't allow some cars to legally be on the road... If they're going to be scrapped might as well have some fun with it...
I get that most of japanese drivers try to keep their cars in good shape, but most of doesn't mean all of...
Nice! 10 seconds, 49 comments!
Smart, shipped straight to the Weeeezard!
Dammit! Now this will go up in value. I've been eyeing these for years, after the Testarossa and 512TR market blew up years back. The 456 and 550 Maranello are so slept on
I've been wondering about that old Ferrari.
Love the 456 GT! I thought to buy one 12 years ago, but in stead I bought my first house. Perhaps with the right job I could have both ;) Love the channel, keep up the great content
Why you would ever let Maaco touch anything more than a go-cart is beyond me.
Sponsorship money.
Maaco like McDonalds is a franchise business, you get one thats trash but you could get another that is excellent. He has said himself on video they aren't the top quality but they are good for the pricepoint they charge him.
Well its cheap and Maaco is a franchise so each one is different, this one seems to do a good job and the owner seems like a good dude
Just because they'll spray your shitbox for a couple hundred dollars, does not mean they can't do high level work for real money.
Its because he gets the work done cheap or free to be included in Hoovies vidios
Tyler, slowly getting a impressive car collection that Jay Leno would be jealous of!! Keep the great content coming homie!! Love seeing a old woody, a kit car, a Cadillac and Ferrari’s and Lambos all in the same video!!
"Having a lot of progress?" I assumed he was going to say "problems" instead
So, no one talking about the big-ass boat in the Wizard's shop? That thing is the size of a Kansas lake.
That's what the Wizard bought after Hoovie paid last month's bill.
Normally you’d be happy that you bought it from someone who lived in Dubai because they would have sorted all of the problems but not this time........
The fuel tanks probably had to be drained in order to get it on the boat, but in doing so the dry injection system went pear-shaped.
Go watch the Doughnut Media video on super cars being dumped on the side of the road in Dubai, and you will see that most of the time it's more trouble than it's worth to import one from there, Hoovie actually got more lucky than you realize even with the problems he has.
ua-cam.com/video/895AKrvz_AI/v-deo.html
@@CommodoreFan64 Hoovie wasn’t trying to buy an abandoned car though, he bought one that had an owner/seller. And he even said it likely wasn’t that persons fault that the car had issues on arrival. It is a Ferrari too which are notorious for developing problems quickly without regular use, so it probably just got problems from sitting in shipping.
@9:14 Replacing Ferrari pump with Kia part... Genius!! :)
I just realized that I’m watching a used car salesman doing his business. 🤔
that was exactly my dream car for many years, flawed in many ways, but was such a cool GT
Did he just say “ I don’t wanna give away the whole tamale”
Yes, yes he did. 😂
I live in Qatar and I am consistently stunned at the prices listed for American trucks over here. Yesterday, I saw a new Ram TRX launch edition right beside a new Ferrari Lusso: same price. Whatever the import hassle they had to go through, I'm certain that whoever did the paperwork to bring that Ram over to Doha didn't deserve a six-figure markup on a six-figure truck. But . . . it's the first one in the country where Raptors are now totally common. Someone will pay the price to stand out.
I remember when hoovie’s was about hoopties
456GT was always my favorite Ferrari since they released. The last great looking car they made, the last pop up headlight model
Don’t blow the secret yet! I want to get one of these before they start to go back up in value. 😂
Oh Boy!....and thank you wizard/Hoovie.....This is related to the GL350. I replaced my fuel filter and used "spring clamps" recommended from an internet source. When I took my vehicle to the local M.B. dealer, they noticed filter replace, but not happy about the "spring clamps"
I will go back to the OEM fuel clamps!
Mr. P
When you buy and import used Italian sports cars from the Middle East, you’re going to have a bad time.
The $10,000 in taxes, import duties, transportation costs, 'paperwork fees', 'handling fees', etc. indicates there are a LOT of palms to grease before a machine in the Middle East can make it's way into someone's US garage. Notice that Tyler BRIEFLY displayed the costs in the video. The REAL question is, did the money he saved in purchase-price get eaten by the costs of getting the car to Kansas?
Which is worse: Getting salt in a northern USA car every winter...or getting sand in a car year-round?
@@Kidsinamerica there is no palm greasing in Dubai...very strict about that...the charges were all booked by west coast...that is what they do...they quote you reasonable shipping cost and then they screw you on all kind of charges.
Bad time ? There usually we’ll maintained and taken care of .
@@anthony2816 sand isn't corrosive...
Hoovvie , The Wizard is so polite and kind. I think you need to give him a big hug.. great content as usual .. Please give wizard a hug for all his hard work. please!!!. Anyway, can't wait for the next Hoopptie ..❤
*Things are getting worse, it's so bad that having a job doesn't mean financial security*

Oh my Hoov, I usually like your car chooses but this thing looks like something from the 90's! I can't think what cheap car it is but it just looks, well, cheap!! But it was enjoyable seeing your reaction to it! Thanks for cheap great fun!
“...id like to thank” skip skip skip
that garages livelihood is powered by one single guy! LOVE IT
The last time I saw a blue 456 in the flesh ,some idiot had embedded it in a tree on a backroad somewhere in Scotland with nothing intact on it forward of the windscreen - Please Tyler do not attempt to copy!
A classic beauty..probably not everyone’s favorite...but definitely OF that mid 90s Era....the older 400 series is my gentleman’s Ferrari of choice...even though this car has a superior drivetrain...
Damn 6 seconds ago what
That looks amazing. Excellent purchase Hoovie, this is my favorite of the Car Trek 4 vehicles now taking that from Ed’s 599.
“It’s so choice.”
If you heave the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
Man!! I visited Tomini classics last week in Dubai and i saw this Ferrari, it was gorgeous..
I didn't know this Ferrari is for Tylor Hoovie!!
SEEMS THE COVER FOR THE DRIVERS POP-UP HEADLIGHT IS OFF ON THE FERRARI
Had one of those GL’s in the shop a year ago. Customer took it to “a buddy who knows cars” first. Turns out his buddy didn’t know that the Mercedes manual says you need to hear an audible click when installing some fuel line connections and a pretty big leaked ensued.
That probably will be the best financial decision he’s made.
Probably not, I think the best deal he ever got was that fast back resto mod, he got that for a really nice price, and if he got the paint corrected, and not with gt350 stuff on it, it would sell higher.
Probably not, the 456GT is a less desirable Ferrari and has continued to stay that way for so long
@@straightbusta2609 and in recent years every less desirables ferrari have increased in market value
@@carlosleandry12 Not as much as you think, the 456 is the successor to the 356+400+412 series which are still some of the most affordable Ferrari's. Succeeding this car is the 612, then the Ferrari FF which are all the "less desirable" ones.
I actually used AutoTempest to look for a new car recently. I found a nice 2016 RAV4 at my local Cadillac dealer on their site. Went and did a test drive. It was in really good shape. We didn't end up buying it though because I found a 2019 Corolla at the Toyota dealer for a couple grand less and now have that
I'm actually starting to believe his slogan.
Wow! It’s cheaper to ship from Dubai to USA than from the port to Kansas....
For the love of god don’t jump that beautiful thing!!
Yeah, I'm afraid of the condition when the filming is done. Sad if he ruins it.
Live the video buddy I’ve always loved cars but never was able to drive because af my vision impairment keep up the good work
Why does the puppeteer controlling "The Wizard" move his hands so much?
Tip on Hoovies (and any other slow clips), go to playback speed and move to 1.5. You don’t lose anything in clarity
That is nothing its literally 50% of the cars cost in duties where I live
Love your videos Hoovie! We get to see lots of cars you just dont normally see. Living the dream pal!
