One of my thoughts on this album it always seem to me that Paul and Gene were making two different albums. If you listen to all the Paul songs at once and then listen to all the gene songs at once aside from the songs they sing on together it sounds like two different albums. Great video guys. I was excited to see this one.

Yep good observation. Watched your old review of this a couple days before we recorded, so thanks for the inspiration!

First comment!! (This was also my first KISS album, speakina firsts)
Petra does a great version of "God Gave Rock & Roll to You" on their 1977 album "Come & Join Us" (and a horrible version on their 1985 album "Beat the System")

    Welcome back!
Revenge was kind of like Creatures in that both were a "KISS is back!" album. A time of mixed feelings with Eric Carr's health yet what actually seemed like legit promises (for once) from Paul & Gene that something special was coming. I knew I would like it because Ezrin was at the helm, and I personally love all his studio tricks.
(And wow, an Elliott Smith interlude! I have several of his cds, though most have never heard of him. A true genius.)
Unholy - Made me proud to be a KISS fan again. The video was spectacular. I just don't like it live.
Take It Off - I fuckin' LOVE it. "Wave your panties in the air, lick your lips and shake your hair..." Hemingway? No. But this is a sassy Paul Stanley KISS song, for the love of God. Was also the highlight of whatever that long-form VHS that came out after the tour.
Tough Love - Has never done squat for me. Just feels like the heaviness is too forced, IMO.
Spit - One of my all-time least-liked KISS songs. Can't skip it fast enough.
GGRNRTY 2 - EPIC. Love everything about it. I remember this being the first thing we all heard prior to the album's release and being psyched. "Almost a Queen production" is an interesting analogy. More than anything I love that soft interlude with Eric Carr singing with Paul (correct?). Too bad it was attached to such a bonehead film.
Domino - Like Spit, can't stand it. My least favorite KISS video too.
Heart of Chrome - A middle-runner to me. There are songs on Revenge I love and songs I despise. But yeah, to me this one's a so-so one. Like it, don't love it.
Thou Shall Not - Maybe, just maybe, my fave Gene song on the album. Still not one of the few I love but a solid song.
Everytime I Look At You - What can I say? I love it, especially the strings. I think it's one of Paul's best ballads. Never saw the video until years later because I think MTV only played it once at 3:30am one morning. Love it but for whatever reason that "waking up by the light of day" line makes me cringe. Sounds like a line from a, yes...Folger's Coffee commercial.
Paralyzed - Solid song but, like you said, was kind of buried in the tracklist.
I Just Wanna - Again, LOVE it. I'm sorry, but I love poppy KISS. Ezrin really brought Paul's vocals to life on Revenge. And holy shit, that "Wake up, baby..." bridge is one of my favorite parts on ANY KISS album ever. The kind of moment only a Bob Ezrin could come up with.
Carr Jamm '91 - It was cool that they honored Eric Carr but I'm sorry, I've always thought it ends the album with a whimper. Just my opinion.
Not a big fan of the album cover. The tour was pretty cool but it was hard to top the previous HITS show. Still have the tour program. Personally, to me, Bruce's Star Spangled Banner was the best thing he ever did in KISS.
    Another interesting show, gentlemen.
    Ezrin Paul's vocals...star spangled...

Interesting observations as always! I do agree that bridge in I Just Wanna is pretty special indeed, and thanks for taking my side of the Take It Off disagreement haha.
      And...Eliott Smith for the win!
      Cheers...JF

Definitely a great album, and like Creatures of the Night, when it came out, it was the kind of album I was waiting for. (Not that I didn't enjoy the last few albums before that, for what they were) ... But this Album hit the spot.. and I was one of those people that wanted this incarnation of the band to reform after the Reunion tour, and pick up where Carnival left off. This album and Carnival back to back made me want more.

I am very pleased that there is another video from you.🤘👍🤘👍
Revange is a strong album - I liked Gene's songs much better than Paul's. Overall one of Kiss' heaviest albums. Gene´s vocals are great on this album - his voice was growing with his age......
My list from 1 to 12:
    Unholy
    Thou Shalt Not
    Paralyzed
    Heart of Chrome
    Carr Jam 1981
    Spit
    Domino
God Gave Rock ’n’ Roll to You II
    Take It Off
    Tough Love
    I Just Wanna
Every Time I Look at You
    Overall the album is 7,5 / 10 for me.🤘🤘
Keep on rocking and greetings from Germany..🤘👍🎸

Great video, guys! I always look forward to when you guys release a new one! I've always considered REVENGE to be a lot like THE ELDER... The weak material on the album (I JUST WANNA, SPIT, and TOUGH LOVE) remind you of just how GREAT the other tracks are (TAKE IT OFF, HEART OF CHROME, and UNHOLY). THOU SHALT NOT and PARALYZED remain two of KISS' underrated classics! That Eric Carr album was also very cool! And if CARNIVAL OF SOULS is somewhere on the horizon, I'm really need to going to brush up on it... Because CHILDHOOD'S END, I WILL BE THERE, and JUNGLE are the only three tracks I remember off of it. Take it easy, gentlemen!

Those three carnival tracks are the only ones I like. The two from box set and the single. Very tough listen for me that album. The sound, and the low quality songs. Pretty sure they were not going to release it at all after recording, that’s why it’s the final sessions. They were not happy with it. And it’s so much lower standard than revenge.

Probably 2nd best non-makeup album. It’s right in the middle of the album rankings for me (including the solo LPS). Sonic wise, it’s in the top 5 for me.

On certain days, I might call it my 2nd fav non make up album too. Nothing could match the mighty Lick It Up!
Sonic wise, it's hard to beat though!

Hi guys, I love your episodes & have seen each at least twice but I must say this was one I was eagerly awaiting & was quite disappointed. What makes your show great compared to others is the positivity, the band info & merch in the era around the album & talking about the songs musically. It sounded like u guys woke up on the wrong side of the bed this day. I hope u guys redo this album coz I don't think u listened to the album a few times before the review. Also, I want more talk about this era coz it was one of the best for a KISS fan, from 1990-2000. The amount of magazine specials, interviews & fanzines from around the world, going to record fairs then fans organizing KISS conventions coz of the KISS popularity at record fairs/swap meets. It was happening world wide, I'm in Australia & it was big here. & the big push by fans in Australia to get KISS back since 1980. A great time to be a KISS fan. I remember getting the Unholy single which came out before the album & I was full KISS preaching at my school coz they were cool again. Anyways, love this album & the era & I hope u can do a redo with more talk about each track musically with some samples, some merch/magazines, & talk about the era more coz it was the best.

Hey there! First off, thanks for watching our episodes twice...that's more than we could ever ask for...totally cool of you.
2nd, i definitely appreciate your honesty. Although we're totally proud of the episode, we were in a time crunch that day and kind of had to rush through it more than we are used to doing. So I guess maybe that showed...? If you haven't noticed, we haven't did many episodes lately due to life stuff. When the opportunity arose that particular afternoon, we had to jump at it. With that said I'm honestly not sure when we could ever do a remake of it or if we ever will. Plus its quite possibly our least viewed video yet. I've noticed that the make up stuff gets way more views, comments, enthusiasm,etc...
We are taking on Unplugged and Carnival hopefully soon so plenty of 90s talk still coming.
But again, thanks for your support and we hope you stay tuned!

Theres fans that say this album is overrated how? Its 1 of the best in their catalogue and the best they sounded in my opinion. Best produced album too.. Even the ballad is solid . Tough love and Unholy are my favorites but cant go wrong with any song .even Carr Jam 81 is super good. Favorite non makeup album

@@themusicofkiss4531 absolutely! Well the deeper tracks in my opinion are better than the Filler tracks off of Animalize and Asylum and even Lick it up . Revenge is a strong album and was blown away when they came out of nowhere and rocked out hard on the Arsenal Hall show. I was like, damn, Kiss is back better than ever! I love your breakdowns on all the tracks and yous guys are very entertaining and hilarious! Awesome podcast

This album is so good. I listen to it more than any other kiss studio album. Production is great and has an amazing sound, as most rock and heavy metal albums did in the early 90’s, recorded for cd.
God gave didn’t need to be on there and sounds totally out of place, maybe for sales they added it. Spit is a bit weak, love all the other songs. Probably 8 in my rankings, after 1-7 is 70’s.
