We talk about a killer heavy album that got lost in the shuffle during the bands reunion tours. It was a very strong Gene album, and we both love Gene's non make-up output, so this was a fun one to chat about. We also opened this episode talking about Gene's first post Kiss live appearance at a Rock and Brews grand opening here in Washington that Jason attended.

For me COS is more consistent than Revenge, maybe not better. When I first got it back in ‘97 I thought Gene’s songs carried the album. Now, I think there’s 3 really good Paul songs, but my favorite song is I Walk Alone. Especially on the outro verse with Bruce and Gene singing together. Cold chill moment for me.
I got CoS the same day I purchased Psycho Circus. I was used to 80s - 90s Kiss at the time and I was blown away by CoS. I thought Psycho Circus was good but it sat for about a month as played Carnival non stop. I still like it more than Psycho Circus. I'd rank it as my 11th favorite Kiss album. Love your episode! COS rules. Never had a problem with it at all. I remember KISW playing Jungle when I was at work for a couple weeks when it came out.
Bought this album and van halen 3 around the same time loved them both a lot of different guitar textures going on in the background of these songs great heavy solid kickass album 5 stars a gem.

Welcome back, gentlemen! Fantastic episode! I know that I've mentioned this before, but what I really love about your channel is that it makes me go back and re-listen to albums/c.d.s in the KISS library that I gave a "one-and-done" to in the past. In preparation for this show, I dusted off my copy of CARNIVAL OF SOULS (Which I haven't listened to in the better part of a decade; maybe even longer). I don't know why I had such a negative attitude towards this album all these years because it genuinely is some of their finest work! I regret not giving it more of a chance in the past! Awesome album! Awesome show! Thank you, again! (*And I know this is neither here nor there... Have you guys ever considered adding one of those "tip jar"/"thanks" option things so fans can contribute? Thanks! Take it easy!)

As for the tip jar...that's an interesting notion, and one we will explore. I know now that we've surpassed 1k subs we can start getting monetary perks as well. This is all new to us and I certainly need to explore.

I always thought this album was cool. I was one of those fans who loved the reunion tour but loved the direction the band was going with Bruce Kulick with Revenge and Carnival of Souls back to back. I was hoping that after the reunion tour , they would take the makeup off and continue on.

The whole Carnival of Souls thing was weird. There was virtually no hype for it, as by then all the attention was on the reunion. It seemed to be an afterthought. As you stated, even the cover had no effort put into it.
I don’t buy into the whole "It’s not KISS" thing. KISS is everything: Dressed to Kill, Destroyer, Dynasty, Unmasked, The Elder, Creatures, Crazy Nights, Revenge, COS and everything inbetween. That's part of what makes KISS interesting and fun; all those left turns.
Having said that, I don’t like Carnival of Souls. I don’t think it sucks, mind you. It’s just not for me. I have no doubt Rush were a great band with untold talents. But I've never cared for their music. It just wasn’t for me. Same thing. (I'm not saying COS sounds like Rush.)
I really hate the "dry, tight-sounding" drums. There's no OOMPH! to them. I wish Michael James Jackson had come in just to produce the drums.
The only parts from the album that interest me are most of Childhood Ends, that killer riff on It Never Goes Away, and the intro and verses of I Confess. (Great observation of that one could of being an Elder track, btw. So true.)
The rest do nothing for me. But to each their own. For the record, I'm that KISS fan who loves songs like Then She Kissed Me, Read My Body, Great Expectations, Nothing Can Keep Me from You, and Gene's solo album, among others most KISS fans despise. So take my opinion for what it's worth. :)

Yes COS is not for everyone, and as always we appreciate your honesty.
You are right though. KISS is everything. You can't have 10 songs about partying and sex every time out. Gotta love the variety they provide. 50 years of the same thing would he boring right?

After Revenge, I was so eager to hear the follow-up, and some of the material on COS is everything I hoped (Hate, Jungle, I Confess, In My Head). But in general the record sounds uneven and underdeveloped in spots, which makes sense with Paul and Gene's attention going elsewhere! Let's not forget they wanted to bury COS. It only got released because someone leaked it and it was so heavily bootlegged.
