We had the pleasure of chatting with Tony Reed of Mos Generator, Big Scenic Nowhere, Hot Spring Water, and Pentagram!! He's a huge Sabbath fan, and it shows in Mos Generator's music. In the midst of putting the finishing touches on the new Pentagram album, Tony stopped in with some cool Sabbath vinyl, and we got into the first album and a bit of what led up to it. Our previous episode was an in...

Oh yeah I saw this one Peter lol but I still gotta catch the AC/DC one you guyz RULE!!
We were gonna record the ACDC one last night, but Peter had a recording session with some randon dude named Brandon so maybe next Tuesday for ACDC!
@@anywayyousliceitreviews 😂😂 no way what a dick!
Peter absolutely slayed that track btw🔥🥁🤟😳
@@anywayyousliceitreviews that Brandon guy sounds like a real d bag 😂
Nah he's actually quite a lovely man!
Destroyer is a good album but their best, not even close
I enjoy most of this album It is better than Gene's a lot better
Tormato is super underrated.
Rockin the Fillmore was and is STILL one of the best live albums ever along side of ALIVE!!
You know it!!
I've always appreciated Yes. Love them or not, you have to admit that NO OTHER group has ever sounded like them in all of pop music history. On a related note, listen to the melodies in "Heat Of The Moment" by Asia, then go back and listen to the verses in "Video Killed The Radio Star." Very interesting, when you compare them back-to-back.
True! I can hear that right now in my head. Good point!
I love to see you guys stretch out. I came to Yes in 1981 and Classic Yes and Drama were my introduction to the band. And Brand X with Phil is killer!
Thanks as always Dean!!!!
YES! haha cool ep guys! guess I know what I’ll be listening to this wknd
Do it Brandon!!!
@@anywayyousliceitreviewswhich Yes album would you experts recommend 📝🤓
@@metaphoria3 hey man. to start "the Yes album" and "fragile" for the classic years. I bet you'd get "going for the one" though.
@@anywayyousliceitreviews righteous I’ll put one on tonight thanks for the rec’s \m/
Yes???????? Seriously?
Yep
I like Unmasked . Its a fun album with Paul having the better songs. Talk to me by Ace is great. Gene's Naked city is my favorite off the album. Dynasty is a much better album in my opinion with better songs . Aces songs off Unmasked are very weak compared to his 3 songs on Dynasty. Same with Gene . But i like most of Unmasked. Album has a nice flow and Anton's playing on it is brilliant. Id rank it a 3.5 out of 5. Great episode
Thanks for checking out this older episode of ours!! We love Unmasked, as you could probably tell haha. Cheers! JF
@@anywayyousliceitreviews yes definitely lol. I dug Unmasked in 1980 as I was 8 years old and had no idea their record sales and popularity were taking a hit. Seeing Eric Carr on Kids are People Too made me think they were even more popular at the time and also 16 magazine was still covering them until Creatures era. I guess I was a Kissco fan lol
@CrazyLG72 that's true. 16 magazine remained loyal all throughout the Elder, which is surprising. Only reason I religiously bought the damn magazine. Then Kiss turned darker and more metal and they ditched them haha
@@anywayyousliceitreviews I remember getting a few 16 magazines in 1982 covering Creatures and their new Egyptian Sphinx/ Ankh Warrior, Vinnie Vincent! Yeah it wasnt until a few more issues later they quickly disappeared from 16 Magazine.
I listened to I WALK ON GILDED SPLINTERS before typing this... "Lovingly borrowed," was putting it VERY politely. Another great episode with albums that I want to revisit or look into for the first time!
Thank ypu Michael!!! And thanks a million for the donation. We love you man!!! Btw we have that WASP episode on the back burner. We will get to it! That one will take some prep! Cheers! JF
@@anywayyousliceitreviews You're welcome, guys! And thank you in advance for the W.A.S.P episode! Take it easy!
Awesome deep dive! Learned so much!
Hey thanks man!!!
ua-cam.com/video/1xAYtmouRQk/v-deo.htmlsi=P-AEioxHDtEVJFjM Bryan's version of War Machine!
So cool to hear Bryan Adams doing War Machine & Rock And Roll Hell. I love that video for War Machine. Someone should overdub KISS' version of the song with that video, now that would be awesome!
Yes, and those are great versions too!!!
Good episode guys, love the spin off series. Just 1 thing I've noticed with this & past episodes is that you don't always name the band/album & to some of us who aren't familiar won't know who you are talking about. What I also love about you guys is the Positivity, keep up the good work - look forward to the next episode
Thanks man!! We will have to be more aware of that. Thanks for the heads up!
Gotta love them Yardbirds!
Over under sideways down!!
Yeah man! It's too bad that the group got splintered up like they did. Even if they kept "the name," but didn't keep Beck, Clapton or Page - but DID keep Dreja, McCarty & Relf, they could've put out a couple of new albums by 1973.
Wow! I did NOT know that so much amazing music was released in 1971! And you mentioned a lot of my favorites: Who's Next (My Wife rules!!!), Sticky Fingers, Humble Pie, Black Sabbath, Allmans, Muswell Hillbillies! Amazing...I also heard a brief mention given to What's Going On by Marvin Gaye, an incredible album that is beautiful, poignant and absolutely one of my "Desert Island Discs" choices. I would love to see you guys do a Desert Island Discs episode: if you could only choose 10 (or 15 or 20...) albums, any genre, what would they be? Good luck narrowing it down! Ha!
Always loved My Wife(in more ways than one haha). Best use of horns in a rock song ever!!
Desert Island Discs is a good idea. You just may see that in the future!!
Like the topic. I realize EVERY generation thinks "music isn't what it used to be," but seriously, does anyone really believe today’s music can touch that from 50+ years ago?? My faves from 1971: Carole King: Tapestry - Damn near a greatest hits album. Rolling Stones: Sticky Fingers - During that epic 4-album run by the band. Wild Horses, Brown Sugar, Sister Morphine, etc. Paul McCartney: Ram - It wasn’t until the '90s or so that this brilliant album started getting its due (thanks primarily to Jann Wenner). But man, Back Seat of My Car might just be my favorite post-Beatles Paul song. The Carpenters self-titled album - I know, I know, it's not rock. But for me, back when I was 6 years-old, it was all about what was on Top 40 radio. This album had Rainy Days and Mondays, along with Superstar...two of their best. No matter what one may think of their type of music, one can't deny the quality of their productions and the melancholic vouce of Karen Carpenter. I think it was a Playboy interview where Gene Simmons stated he and she stayed up all night in a hotel room, just talking. Thanks for another great discussion.
Nothing wrong with the Carpenters at all. Good choices, all of them! Thanks as always for your consistency with the viewership!
Nice! It’s amazing that most of these albums are from guys in their early 20’s just burning it up.
Exactly! Young musicians today can't even touch the surface of creativity from back then.
I like how this one is 3x longer then the interview about himself mos and pentagram
I am a Black Sabbath freak and I found out some stuff I did not know. Killer show!
I didn't think that would be possible but glad you dug it man! At some point, we'll do all the Sabbath albums up til Born Again. Thanks for watching Ralph! JF
Not Van Halen. hahaha
One of the greatest debut albums of all time.
110% agree!! JF
Tony is a very engaging interview! Great episode!
Absolutely. Wait til you hear him on our upcoming Sabbath episode! Such good insight! We were happy to have him on. Thanks as always!
Neat episode! Learned a lot from this one.
We appreciate you checking out, especially since it's not our normal type of episode.
Rad session!
Hey thanks man!!

Great episode guys very enjoyable. I alwaysforget I'm a lot older than you. 1984 I was in a different place than you were in 84
Appreciate that Chance!!
Guys, have you not listened to this year's Judas Priest release Invincible Shield!???? C'mon!
Hmm, who said dat?
Great episode! 1984 was a loaded year for rock and metal, but may I add one more... THE WORKS from Queen. I will defend it as being their strongest album from the eighties. And I would love to see you guys do a deep-dive of those first three albums from W.A.S.P... Those albums were absolute beasts! Take it easy, gentlemen! (*That button-up ANIMALIZE shirt is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen with the muscle t-shirt being a strong second!)
Hi Michael!! Well, we do owe you a couple show topics. Is the WASP an official request? We do love us some early WASP for sure.
@@anywayyousliceitreviews Sure! Thank you! Those three albums are stellar! Take it easy!
We have the next one planned out, but very soon for sure!
@@anywayyousliceitreviews Thank you! Looking forward to it!
Gods of wrath, unforgettable fire, ratt, queensryche... ⚠️
I agree. Everytime Gene and Paul have had things going on on their own its better than Kiss. Better musicians.
Great episode! For some reason , I had temporarily lost touch with the hard rock/metal genre around 1984-1985 but Perfect Strangers brought me back and then I wound up discovering most of the albums on your list. I still haven't heard Merciful Fate after all these years. I guess it's time.
You are gonna hear cool stuff coming at ya left and right. Really great band that kinda carved out their own style.
That;s awesome you got into Don't Break The Oath. I do not think there has been any album as good since. And I like Melissa more as well. Cool shirt, Jason!
I thank you for my love of the Fate!
Holy shit! Cinnamon toothpicks! I too hadn't thought about those in 30+ years. They were definitely on the East Coast too.
When I think of 1984, I think back to religiously reading EVERY monthly issue of Hit Parader and Circus magazines. Back then I could name every member of bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dokken, etc....even though none of those bands ever musically grabbed me. But I always read those mags from cover to cover. And there was ALWAYS a KISS article in there somewhere, which is why I was buying. This was also right about when I was first getting into Motley Crue because Shout At the Devil was still fairly new. I remember seeing that in a record store, thinking the cover was spooky looking, along with the group shot on the back. These guys look like KISS! Bought it without having heard a single song and have been along on their ride ever since. This was also a great year for MTV. Heaven's on Fire, Round and Round, We're Not Gonna Take It, etc. That "Music Television" channel actually played MUSIC back then. Can you imagine? Not hard rock or metal, but an honorable mention for me: Joan Jett & the Blackhearts 'Glorious Adventures of a Misspent Youth.' Always a fun and interesting listen with you guys.
Thanks as always! Yep Circus, Hit Parader, Faces, Rock Scene, Metal Edge. I lived for em too! And who doesn't like a good cinnamon toothpick!!!! JF
What a magical year for hard/heavy music! ‘84 is the peek arguably for ROCK!
I wouldn't argue with that!
Eeeeesh....in 1984, I was 20!! I had first heard of Quiet Riot in 1981 or 1982, at a local record shop. He had a customer that got him to order the imports from Japan and became a fan himself.
Bon Jovi and 7800 rocks. Ratt ep is so good
Man I wanted to talk at length about the Ratt EP, but it's 1983. I LOVE it! JF
It's been awhile since I have last listened to Kiss with out makeup
Start with Lick it Up! Their best non makeup album
Agreed!
Killing it guys!
seems to me gene could probably sing ace of spades just fine. odd choice
Agreed.
CLOSING TIME RULES!!!!111
You know it Quinn!
Great episode, and really looking forward to the next evolution of the show! And I was stoked to see TURNSTILES mentioned on the show! One of my four favorite Billy Joel albums! Take it easy, guys!
Thanks Michael!!!! 😊
There are no words Michael. You are a kind man. Thank you my friend! JF
