I can not wait to try some of these exercises after work. I have been playing without any formal lessons and need to get the weight shifting/grip/swing down and this video is very helpful thank you.
Hope the ideas are helping your game. Did you see this video on the driver we just did? It may also be of interest, see here ua-cam.com/video/ecmNePZ_Itk/v-deo.htmlsi=k8MicR7r_pcDNth1
Thank you for the great video. The set up with flaring the toes and weight distribution helped so much. I have a bad right knee from multiple surgeries and injuries. This helps alleviate pain during my swing. Plus, it helped with more consistent contact.
Thank you very much Todd for bringing this lesson of 3 fundamentals of a swing together which helps me to see that they have to right to have a good swing!
Have played a few rounds with friends this year and I’ve learned my handicap is about 40, although I used to play a good deal of golf when i was little before getting drivers license. Hitting range and practice green a lot to get back into it and decently competitive. Excited to focus mostly on club control
Thank you so much for these videos- Todd is such a great teacher! As a new golfer, the only swing I ever had was a baseball swing- I can tell my muscles don’t want to let go of that swing- this will take a lot of practice to make this new swing consistent

Todd, this lesson is perfect. I have a problem staying balanced when I pivot. I am practicing your pivot drill in house and I noticed I not falling out of sync. Thanks
Hey Todd, I have been struggling with slicing my driver since getting into golfing about a year ago. I tried several things (grip, ball position, swing path, etc) … all resulting in moderate improvements (but still slicing about 50% of the time). I watched this video and really liked your trick of using the tee to indicate proper lead hand orientation … at address, half way through the backswing, and at the top of the backswing. My problem was at the top of the backswing, exactly as you described it … the tee was pointing to the right when looking down the line (and my wrist was cupped). I change my swing to have the tee pointing towards the sky and my wrist either flat or slightly bowed. I went to the driving range today and tried this (and other changes you recommended) for the first time … and went from a 50% chance of slicing the driver to absolutely no driver slices at all (on about 30 hits). I still have some more work to do, as I was only able to deliver about 80% power due to all of the changes (leading to a very unfamiliar / uncomfortable feeling at address and during my backswing). But, overall, I am extremely happy with these changes, and I anticipate a significant improvement in my driver, fairway wood, and hybrid game. Thanks a bunch … this has been the most helpful UA-cam video thus far for improving my golf game!
Just watched your video , can I ask a few questions about the back and down swing 1: when pulling the club away is it with my hands or with my arms 2: when I take the club away is it around or upward ,should it be fluid or should there be a pause 3: can’t grasp the transition from takeaway to full backswing 4: also the transition from top of backswing to the downswing
@@USGOLFTVshow since you asked, yes. As I’ve aged, I need to open my stance a bit to help get through contact. Any advice on hitting a power draw? Or something similar from open stance? Thanks
Hi Tod looking at how you put your hands on the club my question is what your thoughts are with a slightly stronger grip? Your grip seems weak to a neutral grip. have struggled for years fighting a pull. Out to your n swing path
Great question, it really depends on the player. In general we like a neutral to strong grip for most our students. However we do have some players with a more weak trail hand. Not trying to dodge the question. LOL, just really depends on the player.
So, I understand the theory of the swing, and at the range i do fairly well, although ive had low back issues and the pivot is hard for me. But once im in the box, i start thinking about the shot and things go bad! How can i deal with this issue? Thanks
David, great question, you are not alone. One key is to have a pre shot routine that involves picking a good target, a deep breath and a positive self reassurance statement. If you have those pieces, you will see better results. 👍
Thanks coach Todd. The tips are helpful. I’m new at golf and My athleticism doesn’t help me much. I’ve been using all arms and swinging like a baseball bat. Many of balls would go right. My swing has improved since using your tips. How do I gain consistent loft on the ball.
Make sure the weight is getting the lead foot on the finish. This is the first place I look. As a new golfer you would benefit from our book www.badliegolfbook.com/
Great video. Txs. I have a question. I am rt. handed but golf left. I continually have a slight hook to the right. I use a neutral grip and close my stance a bit to try and swing out to the left, but still get a slight hook to the right. Any suggestions? Secondly, I get pain in my left hand (bottom hand) up and down the back of my last two fingers (ring & little) down to my wrist. Because I have arthritis in other parts of my body, I think this might be the cause of the pain. Its been suggested to me to, by an instructor, to get a bit bigger grip on my clubs, so my hand does not have to close as much. Any thoughts?
Glenn, thanks for posting. We agree with the thicker grips, that is solid advice. Hard to say in the curve of the ball. Check out our Science of the Slice ebook at www.USGOLFTV.com
Trace, best option is to get with a certified clubfitter and go through a fitting session. There are many variables to consider and a good club fitter can help guide you in the process. Hope that helps...
Jimmy, we are here for you! Make sure you are getting your weight to your lead foot at impact. This can be the cause of fat shots for many players. Appreciate you posting.
I really struggle "taking it from the range to the course", particularly with my irons. I'm loose on the range, but then tense up, to my detriment when standing over the ball during the round. How can I make a successful transition to my round.
Have one or maybe two clear thoughts that you can put int a phrase that can be repeated. For example, if I am working with someone on their turn our phrase might be "move, turn, stay". The beauty of a phrase is that it is easy to repeat and improves focus. Hope that helps...

I am 78 yrs old and play to a 16.handicap. My driving distance is down from a high of 265 yds when I was 50, with a 9 hcp, slowly moving down to now 195-200 yds and a 16 hndcp. What are your thoughts on what to practice to shave 2 or 3 off my handicap? Jim Greth
Good question, the key as we loose distance is chipping, lag putting and moving more hybrids in the bag. These three things coincide with being shorter off the tee. If you focus on lag putting and chipping, you will see your scores drop. Make sense?
I’m confused. You say the lean the upper body back (away from the target), and to put 60% of your weight on the lead foot. I don’t think that gravity will allow that to happen. You can’t put extra weight on the front foot if the center of body mass is leaning towards the back foot.
Good question, we are only talking a little more weight on the lead side at address. This can be achieved while still having a slight upper body tilt away from the target. Make sense?
