    One of the best drills I've experienced. I purchased your Body Swing series a couple months back and have seen major improvement. Forgetting the strong grip and transitioning to a neutral grip was probably the hardest habit to break at 58 years old, however, I'm seeing more consistency with my shots. Still working on the loose wrist and hitting my irons pure. Thanks for all your help!

      Thanks for the support. Glad you are starting to get it. Glad you are doing the neutral grip now. This is a game changer for sure but it does take work. Stay focused and try to perfect each lesson. Just do this daily at home. This is one of the biggest issues people have. They don't do swings daily.

    Paul - last month I shot a 63 in my weekly 9-hole league. I could not hit my irons AT ALL. I was embarrassed and ready to quit. I watched this video, and went to the driving range. I tried your choke up, hinge technique and hit EVERY SINGLE ball in the bucket solid and straight! Today I shot a 41 in my league, including inches fro a hole in one. This is ALL from watching your videos! Thank you so much for completely changing my game! For anyone reading this - watch Paul's videos, the ONLY training that works! Thank you so much Paul!

    I seriously think you’re one of the very few pros in the world who actually understand and are able to teach how to hit a golf ball. So many pros are obsessed with body angles and positions, they forget all about what the club head is supposed to do at impact. Thank you!!! Soft wrists and hands are absolute key. I think so many pros and good golfers have no idea why they’re able to hit a golf ball. But for those of us who aren’t naturals, your advice is the missing link of golf instruction!

    5:35 - At the range I did one swing strictly hinge/rehinge with very little lower body action, just to see what would happen. The ball went about 83% of my normal distance with a little pull fade. Absolutely amazing. For those people who top it, fat it, don't make contact, or can't get it down the fairway, this one change would immediately lower their handicap by 10 strokes, maybe more!

    Are you kidding me?! After 50 years of playing Golf on and off I found this gem of golf instruction and it cured my thin irons with this drill with 20 range balls. After I understood the importants of just doing nothing with the arms and wrists I hit the best 5 iron of my whole life! Super effortless, dead straight with a great contact. But it only works when you do one thing. And this thing is DO NOTHING! LET IT HAPPEN AND IT WILL BE PERFECT. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

      Glad you liked it. Thanks. This is the key. Too many people out there just whacking away as hard as they can. This tightens the wrists and can get you manipulating the face. Just need to let it go. This loosens the wrists so you get way more clubhead speed with no effort. This clubhead speed is for life because you don't have to be strong to be loose. Plus, if you aren't hitting you allow the forces to act on the mass almost eliminating any face twisting. Might want to watch this one too. It's an old one but still relevant:

      Paul Wilson Golf - i went to the range and hit a bucket of balls. Your “string around the axis” analogy helped me hit my clubs better than ever before - even my 5W, 3W and driver! The idea of choking down helped me loosen up my wrists and imagining the face 2 feet ahead of the ball with straight arms, stretched out, helped me hit straighter, more consistent shots. It’s going to take lots more practice, but the seed is planted and I can’t wait to get back out and run those drills again. Thank you!

Jim believes the best way to hit the ball, is with your wrist, arms, and hands. This is a great drill. Went to the course and choked up on all my clubs and after a few holes I was suddenly hitting the ball long and straight. I hit a three hybrid 225 and I'm 66 years old. After watching a bunch of Paul’s videos, I’ve come to the conclusion that most if not all of swing problems have to do with “trying” to hit the ball. When you try to hit the ball, you are using your arms, and that leads to widely inconsistent shots. The most helpful swing thought for me is the “hinge-unhinge”. This forces you to use your body and leads to an effortless swing. Thanks Paul

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому +2

      You got it. This is so true. Now who wants to hit with arms? Almost everyone. This is why almost everyone needs help with their swing. Pros don't hit solely with the arms. Pros learned as kids when they had minimal arm strength. See it now? Hinge - rehinge is a huge part of it. You get that working then connected to coil - uncoil. Simple.

    3:11 - That is so good. I'm just now formulating in my mind, that we are swinging the club between hinged at the top, and unhinged 2 feet past the ball. There is no point in between that should get special attention. Whatever lies along that path, between those 2 points, is on a collision course with the club-face. It really is a different way of thinking about the golf swing!

      Thanks. Not sure why everyone thinks they have to hang up the clubs. Doing practice swings at home is the best way to work on your swing. No ball means no distraction of you trying to hit it. If there is no distraction you can make the changes over the winter then play great golf next season as opposed to not practicing then working on it next season when you should be playing great golf. I have literally taught this for years. It's just getting everyone to do it. Just take out a 7 iron and having sitting there. Do daily practice swings doing some of the stuff in my tips and it will be mastered by next season.

    I am in the category of the “exact same thing”. I did your “one bucket challenge”. You were right. I started off topping balls. After half a bucket, I was able to compress the ball. Not every shot, but I could do it. With some extra focus, I could also do it using the full length of the club. And yes, I did need to weaken my grip.
    It is a completely different feel. I needed to relax my wrists, my hands, arms, shoulders, and trust my body to swing the club. Last, I needed to focus on posture as I tend to stand up in my swing. It was an amazing experience. I plan on repeating this challenge at the range from now on as my new warmup routine.

      @@paulwilsongolf For me, the hardest thing is overcoming the fear of hitting behind the ball. The compensations I've developed over time are a little bit of a chicken wing and raising my body a bit. These helped me to avoid the embarrassment and frustration of hitting behind the ball. Now, I will now start to overcome these ingrained habits and work on feeling more comfortable in letting my arms extend and swing the club with my new body swing. I plan to take it one step at a time as you advise in your videos. The big test will be taking it to the course and mentally staying with it. I will try this once I've gone through enough buckets. Thank you.

    Paul thank you for the easy to understand videos and explanations, I've watched about and I've finally found where I was making my errors and why I haven't been able to make progress. I've only been been playing gold for about 2 years now, a friend taught me a bit of the basics before he moved so I've been playing on my own with what he left me and from watching others and after my fourth time on the course I decided I won't play on a course until I'm satisfied with my swing at the driving range, unfortunately life keeps you busy at times and couldn't go hit the balls as much as I'd like to and I was advised against watching 'how to' videos because everyone is different and would just confuse a beginner because of all the steps and I agree... Luckily I realised a while back that golf isn't about how hard you hit the ball but I couldn't figure out why my club/driver face kept opening and now I know, I don't hinge I tense up instead as well as not using my hips and legs and following through and a few other things thats wrong with my foundation that I'm looking forward to improving so thank you and I look forward to watching your other videos and putting them into practice... Paul. I've been playing since I was 2 years old... low single digit handicap for 20+ years... and this is singularly THE BEST drill I've found to improve my impact and get my swing back in rhythm. Thank you!

    Paul, I’m playing a round with the boys on Saturday. Do you recommend I do this with a bucket of balls before hole 1 and then work my way up with the grip? Thanks! You are amazing!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  4 роки тому +25

      Thanks. You can do this but I would be concerned about loosening up. I would be doing this drill at home in practice swings loosening up your wrists. Here is now to beat your friends. When you get to the course you hit only 25 balls. When you hit them DO NOT aim for a target. DO NOT care where the balls go. In fact just hit it and don't even watch it. Once you hit your 25 balls go putt and chip. Now you will step on the first tee with no expectations.

    Paul... great advise! I used to play very well without much wrist hinge...… now I definitely hit it farther, but every once in a while I slice the ball drastically right because I think I'm holding the hinge too long and leaving the face open... I might need more work on my timing and not waiting so long to turn over. Thanks for all your excellent videos! I think I watched them all!

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Just remember right = tight. So if your wrists are too tight you need to loosen them to allow the face to square. This grip down drill is a good one for loosening you up. You can follow these ones too:

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Well, if that's what you have to do when you are learning then do it. You will get way worse looks if you are holding people up topping it 10 times down the fairway.

    I've been playing golf since 1972. Since that time, I've subscribed to all of the golf magazines, read dozens of instructional books, purchased many instructional DVDs - you know how we golfers can be. Anyway, I've seen Paul explain two or three concepts that I've never before seen any other instructor share. This particular upload is great. And if you've not viewed Paul's upload titled, "Powerful, Effortless, Pain-Free Golf Swing (Explained)", do it - it's a MUST SEE! These two videos WILL change your game...IF you will stick with the instruction.
    Paul has been teaching for many years, and he's doing some of his very best work, today.
    (Thanks for helping me, Paul. God bless you, sir.)

    Paul...I have watched this video before and for whatever reason....got away from this thought/technique. This past weekend....I had a so so front 9...ball striking was inconsistent. On the back nine....started out with double bogeys on 10 and 11. Then for whatever reason...I thought of your video on hitting your irons pure. I said...we need to implement the 'loose' wrists idea and with that thought in mind...I had pars on 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Am most anxious to play this weekdend and will definitely have 'loose' wrists in play. Many thanks for your videos...appreciated your kindness. My best. Joe Martin/Charlotte NC

      Glad you thought of the drill. This is a good one for sure. I would do this as you warm up for a while into the future. It keeps your wrists loose which is a vital part of the swing.

    Love your videos ! I'm starting to work on the "effortless swing" as I am so guilty of hitting hard at THAT ball ! That said, I tried this drill on my mat today and I will take it to the range tomorrow. But, I found I still tend to just skim the ground thus topping..my major issue. Any suggestions on what I can do to swing effortless while making sure I make complete contact with the ball and ground ? Thank you !

      Try to keep it simple. Don't work on too much at once. Just remember you are hitting it with your body (legs and hips) not your hands and arms. START HERE:
      Grip: ua-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/v-deo.html
      Hinge Rehinge: ua-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/v-deo.html
      Secure Grip: ua-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/v-deo.html
      Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. I have tons of lower body tips now posted. Try this one. It's an easy way to get you hips moving: ua-cam.com/video/j1mS5Ku8Q10/v-deo.html

    This is the first time I've ever heard of this drill, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I've watched 100's of videos by very good teachers, bought a Divot board and the whole "nine yards" as they say. I haven't played golf for over 3 years. I'm 67 and a 5 handicap at 35. I went out in the back yard to take some soft swings with a a lob wedge and was either hitting thin or fat. I hate the feeling of those pitches! I know what I'm doing, but couldn't stop doing it! Frankly it made me angry. I will try this with a short club and choke way down and hit "a bucket of balls" off of a very low TEE! Thanks friend.

    Literally just left the range thinking man my irons are just too short that’s the problem. Came home. Watched this. Went in my backyard (which I haven’t mowed yet) and hit my 6 just like you said to do. Instantly felt more comfortable in my stance and swing. First swing ball went sailing. Second swing ball went sailing. Both flew nice and straight and I felt my swing seemed more natural. Now I can’t wait to try this on the course. HUGE thanks.
