    10:20 As a lovely patron pointed out, tofu is mostly fat per percentage of calories, but it's mostly protein by weight (fat has more calories per gram than protein or carbs). Not sure why I assumed percentage of calories, I guess weight makes more sense in terms of which macronutrient is dominant in a food? As if any of this shit makes sense lol
    So according to Dr. Mona, the only way we could be vegan and get enough protein would be to eat mock meats, protein powder, *and* soy. Shes anti-soy btw because of course she is ("however much you can limit soy is better" from her 7 healthy snacks video)

      That's how the dairy industry get away with saying full fat milk is only 2 or 3% fat. They give the percentage figure by weight, which is true, as milk is mostly water which is heavy. But it is nearly 50% fat as regards the calories it contains, which is the important figure. Sorry if you already knew this, just thought the idea was relevant.

    • @Theorimlig
      @Theorimlig 4 роки тому +2

      @@ChrisJ294 Surely what percentage of the total product is fat is more relevant anyway? Who cares how much of the calories in milk is fat? The rest is sugar.

    • @ChrisJ294
      @ChrisJ294 4 роки тому +1

      @@Theorimlig Because it's the calories you absorb. The rest you piss away. When you consume a food you want to know if it's high in fat, sugar, salt etc. And to know that, it's helpful to know which percentage of calories is which. And some of us do care how much fat is in food. We aren't all swallowers of flat earth Atkins bullshit.

      Lilith Nox Well are we not all blind to a very large extent? We know what we think we know from experts; our parents, teachers, professors, documentaries, scientific publications, etc. There is only a fragment of the world we know because we have directly experienced it or tested how something works. We have to rely on experts for all the rest. Sure we can be more certain of ‘expert opinion’ by comparing multiple accounts and combining it with what we already know, but still we have built a society that thrives on trusting ‘the expert’. I think we could do better in teaching people to not follow just anyone who claims to be an expert. Have you never believed someone that had a good story and pretended to be an expert and latter thought better of it? I think most people have.

    • @lilithnox5955

      mydirtyfeet just because someone has SOME credentials it does not mean they are right in everything. Especially someone talking about something they don’t really have education on. It is always important to have your minds open to doubt. Even more some when it comes to health and nutrition. Check first before just going for something because some expert (who’s expertise is not even nutrition) makes claims about how should you do something that actually affects your health.
      And no. I don’t i always check everything. Specially when is something so esoteric. Its how i grew up. And its what kind of person i am. Question everything, ask question, get different perspective. I think its my greatest quality in life.

      there are two quotes that I live by. first is "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense”. And if I only lived by that, it would be easy to blindly follow someone who feels like is speaking to me. I study nutrition and I once believed in the "rotten fruit" theory too. But I also live by "“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” , and that's why if I believe something someone says, I always have to make sure they are correct in what they said!

    The clip around 12:40 where Mona talks about food “putrefying” or rotting is so so so dangerous to those out there who may be struggling with disordered eating. My biggest problem during my eating disorder was that I was TERRIFIED of food rotting in my stomach, so as a result I would only eat foods like carbohydrates which digest easily. Although many people associate anorexics/bulimics with avoiding carbs because they’re “bad” food, I know other people who did or just as I did.

    She clearly has a gross misunderstanding of how the digestive tract works 😅 different macronutrients are broken down by their respective enzymes in different parts of the digestive tract (protein mostly in the stomach, carbs in the mouth and small intestine, and fat in the small intestine). Your body is so smart- it already has the pH thing figured out. The stomach is super acidic for protein digestion and the small intestine is less acidic for the rest. Trying to isolate macronutrients makes zero sense 😅

  • @Willowing_Weaver
    @Willowing_Weaver 4 роки тому +7

    Actually there are medical conditions that can cause food to "rot" within the stomach. But it's not the type of rotting that you imagine when you hear the word rot. The condition called Gastroparesis, is a condition that slows the gastric emptying of the bodies digestive system, which leaves most if not all food in your stomach for extended lengths of time. So while the food isn't rotting like if you left a tomato sitting on the counter for a week, it does rot in the sense that it spoils and causes symptoms of food poisoning. I personally have this condition and it's not fun, my gastric emptying function is between 25%-35%, and this causes severe nausea (24/7), episodes of vomiting, and bowel disturbances. Thankfully, I am lucky and have found a combination of medications that help with the nausea at least.
    I just thought I would share this because you said that food doesn't rot in the stomach, but it can. I don't think it rots because of the combination of foods and what time you eat certain foods, but there are those people who do experience food rotting in their system. I'm not a doctor, but I would say if anyone is experiencing digestive problems like severe non-stop nausea, vomiting and bowel changes then you should definitely see a gastroenterologist, because something could be really really wrong with your system.
