Your sense of humor, logic, editing, filming skills, and wonderful family make this my favorite type of content to enjoy. Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you for the kind words. 100% honesty, I've only briefly browsed the titles of your videos on your channel, but based on that I want to congratulate you on all your progress regarding your health. I plan to go back and actually watch some videos when I get some time.
@question everything I do, but you see I just didn't exactly want to waste them on a useless comment that I would have completely forgotten about if you had not reminded me of it
I'm not vegan by a long shot, but I started improving my diet a few years ago by following the approach of "adding healthy things to my diet rather than taking things out," and I've also had to cook meals for my friend who IS vegan so now I look for more plant based meals to add and experiment and I love finding tasty food whether its vegan or not and I am proud to say I eat less meat than I did before.
This is exactly what I have done. I try to fill up on all my fruits and veggies each day then if I want any ‘vegan junk food’ then I don’t feel bad about having it.
My wife and I went vegan about 3 years ago. She’s an awesome cook. I think most people just aren’t good cooks and they limit themselves with choices. We’ve never been healthier. It’s really not that hard.
This is so true. It's sad how people just don't know the basics of cooking anymore, but it's a creative outlet for me. And we eat AMAZING vegan food every single day.
@Kath Beck if you eat like shit for 40 years then 5 years of healthy eating isnt going to remove the damage done to your body. Things like eggs and dairy still contributes to health issues.
@Kath Beck Some are very misleading, but any Vegan worth their salt would say it won't cure everything. There are other causes for some of the problems we face, but diet contributes to most of the big ones, and is reversible if you fix your diet. Everything is always percentages and probability. You might as well complain veganism won't stop you from dying in a car crash. I will say, regarding cooking. It ISN'T hard, once you know what you're doing. But I spent a ton of time learning how to cook in a healthy way. I used to just buy chicken, mashed potatoes, and something green and call it a meal. Now I take make a lot of extra effort to flavor things without fats/oils/sugar, and create unique combinations. It's becoming second nature to me, But I've had free time to really dive in. And I also have a little bit of history of trying to cook healthy when I was on Keto before, which made this a little easier. I know it would probably we wasted on kids, but cooking is a vital skill that should be taught in schools. Especially since capitalism keeps inventing cheaper, more unhealthy, more preservative filled junk and manipulating our demand for it with marketing. The only way to in most places to have a chance at being healthy is to cook for yourself.
More people need to quit wasting their time and money on self help books and therapists and start listening to and putting their trust into random cab drivers.
One day, flipped a switch and we went plant-based... two weeks in, super gassy while dealing with the changes. A week of that, and I've been great ever since. Haven't been sick in 3 years.
@@Ladyybird21 Your digestive system/microbiome isn't used to that much fiber. Your microbiome is going through a lot of changes and having to readjust the bacteria populations to your new diet. Its good, but the sudden change is a lot for your gut to take. There's a lot going on in there!
@@Ladyybird21 Vegetables are digested in your gut by helpful gut bacteria. Studies have shown that once those bacteria are dead from lack of food (vegetables) they don't come back naturally. You need to have probiotics (capsules, yogurt etc) or eat fermented food like pickles, saurkraut etc to repopulate them. Then they will eat the vegetable fiber, repopulate, and you'll be able to tolerate the vegetables again. Otherwise, they just create gas because as they break down.
@@MagcargoMan please don't generalize! You don't know all vegans, neither do I. I'm a vegan and I met lovely others vegans, but also some really annoying and disrespectful ones. I'm married to a lovely person who happens to eat meat and dairy sometimes. Most of my friends are meat eaters. At the same time, I know really annoying and disrespectful meat eaters. I think it depends on the individual and not on what we put on our plates.
I’ve watched a handful of your videos and I’ve gotta say, while the channel is interesting it’s your family’s sense of humor and delivery that really push things over the edge.
Oh my goodness, yes!! Haha, my first thought was: she's doing her monthly session of unfollowing people on Facebook. @WheezyWaiter, pleeeease tell us what your mum is doing on her phone!
Vegan for 7 years... My advice: to feel more satiated and getting in healthy fats & minerals is not being afraid of healthy unprocessed FAT. As in: avocados, nuts, seeds, nut butters (almond, cashew, hazelnut, pecan, peanut, coconut etc.), seed butters ( sunflower, sesame aka Tahini (amazing for dressings without any oil!!!)). Make sure you get in your omega 3's in by freshly grinding flax seeds/ chia seeds and putting them in smoothies, on porridge... eating nuts like walnuts, macadamias, pecans. Or eat a bit of cold pressed flax/ chia/ walnut oil by putting it into your salad dressings. We hardly saw any of his meals, but I suggest including lots of healthy whole grains: oats, quinoa, rice, millet, buckwheat etc. Also very important: beans & lentils. And supplementing every now and then with Vitamin B12 (methycobalamin) by using drops/ sprays/ sublingual tablets. It sounds like a lot, but it's super easy and fun, and can also be cheaper than a "normal" diet if you don't buy the overpriced junky vegan fast food items too often.
to put into consideration: how many squirrels, and bugs, chipmuks have to be killed in order to save the crop? You're still killing animals. How many peoples' hands have to burn because you want cashews, because companies will not give them gloves to wear.
This video was really good. Seemed well researched, humble/modest and nicely moderate. The video isn't trying to push one thing or another onto you and instead just gives you information that you can decide what to do with yourself while covering several angles/topics related to the subject. While i liked your previous "i tried x for a month" videos, this is the new gold standard i think. Keep up the good work Craig. I very much enjoyed this video.
Its annoying when that happens. I've done 6 yrs now and no meat but for a while I found a few things had animal products in them like gelatine and was gutted but didn't beat myself up. Hope you're still going.
It's been a little over a year for me now since I went vegan. To me it's a step towards self improvement that I saw as necessary. In fact I've seen too many documentaries about what's going on in our world to even consider going back now. As much as I loved a steak before I went vegetarian or cheese before I went vegan, I've had so so many amazing foods now that I'm vegan. I know veganism receives a lot of hate and I don't try to push it on anyone, but I personally feel way better knowing that I'm helping a little bit to have a smaller negative impact on our planet. And if I can inspire some people along the way, then that's even better!
Glad to hear you've had a positive experience. As I mentioned in the video, I don't push it on anyone either. You're right about the foods, there are so many great options available now.
The thing that bothers the most about veganism is when they just push it down our throats along with moralism... It's probably the same with feminism. Or any ideology to be honest. Why do people feel the need to just shove it? It's counter-productive as hell.
@@geritoxnm The worst examples always stand out because they're the loudest. Most vegans aren't like that and with the ones that are, you have to understand that most of them actually don't have bad intentions. I do agree that insulting someone and "pushing it down their throat" is the wrong approach though.
@@infektdubstep That's true. It happens in every aspect of life sadly. But I agree with you, most vegans can't be like that. Also there's nothing wrong with veganism at all, I'm not against it, but as stated in this video, it's inconvenient for some of us.
The problem with Americans is that they think vegan or vegetarian means boiling vegetables. In other countries, they know how to cook veggies where they taste better than any possible meat using a variety of seasonings and cooking methods that Americans rarely use. In other words, Americans just need to learn how to cook.
UA-cam has lots of channels that detail tasty vegan cooking methods. Cheap Lazy Vegan is a good one. I'm a lifelong American who now eats a vegan diet. I love ethnic cuisine and use it for my vegan dishes. Miso paste is a great way to season vegan dishes. I can buy it at Sprouts, which is within walking distance from me. Indian food is another great cuisine that can be easily modified from the many vegetarian dishes that exist to vegan dishes.
Seitan flour it’s great for protein 100g gives you 80g of protein ( more tan any meat ) beans also massively high in protein per 100g it’s 40g ish (slightly more than meat) in protein Add rice in the mix for your carbs/ sweet potatoes...the key is don’t eat for taste eat for gains, it’s the same if your cutting as you would if you eat meat Being vegan just means you can eat more and still have a calorie deficit so you lose body fat and hold your muscle easier... in my opinion
I was a vegetarian, but have been vegan a month and have lost 20 pounds. I do like to cook, so really can use veggies and tofu to make great things. It IS helping me not eat processed sugar and desserts because many have dairy. But I found vegan chocolate for a treat. It makes me more mindful about my food and Iike that. I can't just go to Dunkin for an egg bagel. I have to think and plan and ultimately make better choices.
You can get other bagels, though. I order them plain and toasted, I always have vegan butter at home but I haven’t found a cream cheese I like. I bet one day dunkin will have a vegan spread! Years ago they didn’t have vegan milk choices and now they do!
been vegan for almost 6 weeks and my cholesterol and tryglyceride levels have both dropped almost 100 points with no statin use. I wish I had done this years ago
kmanick I love how you are saying that like it’s a good thing, like it’s an achievement. Cholesterol is integral to every single cell in the human body, literally every one. It’s also vital for hormone production which affects everything from mood to various metabolic processes. Cholesterol is one of the most important things our body needs. Vegans often, more often than not suffer from mental health issues (although they pretend everything is great), and when they get injured healing is a lot slower because guess what cholesterol is a healing substance, the body deploys more cholesterol to repair damage. Cholesterol has been demonised by bad science, think of cholesterol as a fireman, when ever there is a major fire you will find firemen present, by today’s logic we would blame the fireman for starting the fire, when in reality the fireman was a response to tackle the fire. Likewise cholesterol is deployed by the body when the body is damaged and needs repairs, so it’s detected in people who have health problems, but it doesn’t cause them. Statins are very profitable drugs so pharma companies pay researchers to prove cholesterol is bad and needs to be reduced. Statins are bullshit and so is the research that supports their use. This will probably sound crazy to you, but I’ve tested this shit from personal experience. I used to believe the lies about fat and cholesterol, I ate low fat, little meat and plenty of “healthy” fruits and vegetables. I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, told I had too high cholesterol and to cut down on the high cholesterol foods that I wasn’t even eating. I switched to a high fat, largely meat based diet, for the past two years I’ve had blood tests every single month without fail (because of the treatment I had for the ms). Despite eating tons of eggs, the fattest streaky bacons, fatty ribeye steaks and often chunks of pure fat, not once has any of my blood tests shown high cholesterol or any other blood issues. I’m not deficient in any nutrients, I’m losing weight at a healthy rate (slow and steady), and have no further ms attacks. Look around UA-cam for ex-vegan videos, there are tons of them, they all say the same basic things, at first they thought it was great, but eventually all of their health started to fall apart.
VINICORN VIDEOS oh can they? Then why do vegans frequently suffer depression, anger and other mental issues along with poor injury recovery? How many sporting stars go vegan then shortly after get injured and quit their sport? Between 20-25% of your cholesterol comes from diet, meaning vegans are missing that entirely. Now you will probably say but the body can still make what it needs, a 25% deficiency is still a deficiency. Maybe vegans can cope when healthy, but the moment they get injured the requirement for cholesterol spikes and taxes an already deficient nutrient. A healthy person with a healthy diet can probably produce cholesterol quite well, because they have all the building blocks of cholesterol, the precursors etc. Vegans on the other hand don’t eat cholesterol and don’t eat the optimal building blocks to produce their own cholesterol, on top of which vegans eat tons of fibre and anti-nutrients that cause what little nutrients they do eat to be excreted and not absorbed properly. Plant oils are terrible when compared with real animal fats that are already in the most bio-available forms our bodies need. Our metabolisms are much closer to animals than plants, so animal nutrients need less processing in our bodies to be usable, for instance animal foods have real Vitamin A, plants don’t, they contain carotenoids which the human body needs to convert (at biological expense), into the real human form of vitamin A we need to live. Animal food Vitamin A is the real thing (retinol), that is instantly and easily available and usable to our physiology. By the way the conversion of carotenoids to retinol is not perfect and some people just can’t even do it. You can have too little cholesterol, but not too much, if you consume more than required it is simply excreted, I’ve been eating a high cholesterol diet for well over 2 years and with a blood test every single month, not once have I had “high blood” cholesterol levels, in fact my nurse and doctor says my blood is perfect. Vegans are dropping like flies, youtube vegans whose income is entirely dependant on the vegan lifestyle are having to quit for health reasons and are all saying they feel so much better after quitting. They all report an increase in mood/mental health, an increase in libido, recovery from long term injuries, removal of “vegan brain fog” (I’ve literally watched vegan videos hat have jump cuts every few seconds because they can string a coherent sentence together, then when they quit veganism they can make long videos without any jump cuts and rambling). All these things can directly be related to cholesterol, and hormonal imbalances that result in a deficiency of one of the most important molecules in the human body. Vegans need to supplement cholesterol as well as B12, trouble is there is no plant form of cholesterol in plants, so by definition they can’t supplement the one thing they really need to. Vegans can eat B12 sources (dirt and algae) but they cannot eat cholesterol.
For not being a vegan expert, you had a lot (if not all) your facts straight. Seems like a lot of work went into this video, really appreciate the neutral stance and information delivery. Great product, would consume again and recommend to a friend!
Shane Graham yes it was very insightful! I just posted part 1 of my vegan series where I talked about all sorts of health benefits of being vegan! It’s also great to share as it helps others understand the reasoning behind us all wanting to be vegan! 🌱💚
@@jaredwolff3001 that's pure nonsense. Meat is very easy to digest and is almost completely absorbed before it reaches the colon. It's the plant material that rots in your colon and causes the smell and flatulence

@itsokaytobesmart I'm a bit disappointed that you use being Texan as an excuse for not going vegan. I come from one of the most meat-eating countries in the world, but I still eat vegan, because I know what impact not eating vegan has on the world; and so do you! I can't speak for this guy (who's great btw watch his channel!) But I find I think consideration of all factors which negatively impact the environment could lead to a rather constricted lifestyle, take using the internet for example: “Twenty milligrams of CO2 are generated every second that someone is using a simple website."
As a so called "vegan" I found this to be a really honest and refreshing exploration on the subject from a meat-eaters perspective, I loved your approach to the whole thing, thank you so much for making this awesome video!
Every time I watch one of your videos I’m impressed. Your videos just ooze charm and production value, you’re such a good example of what UA-cam should be about. Thanks Craig
I’ve been vegan for 5 months in 2014 and that’s when my IBS got incredibly explosive and painful… 3 hours in the toilet, almost fainting from pain. Right now I’ve been on the Carnivore diet for a month: lost 15 pounds, IBS is totally gone from week one, my nasal congestion is 70% better and I don’t need my nasal spray before bed anymore…. And I feel better mentally.
Thanks for not being a jerk about veganism, we get this biased behavior a lot and you really did your research and I genuinely enjoyed the video as a vegan. If you want to know more I really recommend Earthlings (it's on UA-cam)
I haven't seen Earthlings, but I went vegan for health reasons. The best documentary about that is "Forks Over Knives." It changed my life. Anyone know of a good documentary about the environmental advantages to eliminating animal agriculture? I know that it causes more Climate Change than all transportation combined.
I'm the furthest thing from vegan you'll ever find, but I too appreciate videos like this that approach dietary choices with respect, humour, and humility. :)
Actually, those are not complete proteins as they don't have all the amino acids, plus they are carb heavy too. You'd need to combine them with a grain protein, but that means even more carbs which isn't good for balanced macronutrients. You may very well have a metabolism that is suited to high carb, but for me I need a balance.
@@Syklonus All you have to do is add a some hemp hearts, tofu or tempeh, chia, or spirulina.. and you can still get most of your protein from legumes and your fine. But i also do eat a lot of quinoa in place of rice. It doesnt change what I said. Its not that hard to find what works for you then and adapt.
Amazing video!! I went from eating steak every single night to the next day going fully vegan. That was over 3 years ago. After researching the shocking meat and dairy industry I could never go back. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the taste, I absolutely loved it, but since going vegan there have been no cravings, I genuinely don’t miss anything. I’m the healthiest and feel the best I’ve ever been in my life, it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
I've been doing it for a year and a half and the cravings are mostly nonexistant except some desserts! There's still a few that I haven't found good alternatives for. haha
I went vegan and felt like garbage the first month. But then I stopped following the diets of UA-cam vegans who are all on these super high-carb, low-fat diets. And I went back to my usual, higher-fat/low-moderate carb diet -- but veganized it. Problem solved. Energy returned, and I never had another issue...I highly encourage people to track their current macros while they are non-vegan. Then find vegan foods (and possibly supplements) which will hit those macros.
@Jakob S If a high-carb diet works for you, that's great. But there are also lots of people like me, where it destroys our health. Too much fruit, too many starchy vegetable, lots of legumes, grains of any kind -- it just sends me on the road to bloating, weight gain, and exhaustion.
@Jakob S "The diet proven to be best for low mortality in most humans is a whole foods plant based diet. Mostly carbs, then fat, then protein." Thats simply not true.
I'm not sure who the woman is, but B12 supplements come in liquid form which I take, and vegans need to take it. Calcium comes from lots of veggies. Walnuts are extremely high in Omega-3 oils.
I so hope this video goes viral. There are so many misconceptions about veganism, both positive and negative. I think this could clear it up for a lot of people.
I think this video is going to do really well. I agree with you about the misconceptions both ways. He did a great job with the information he provided in this video.
It's a pretty hot topic these days and he covers the big points without any bias. That's where a lot of people go wrong when they try to cover this issue, their bias is obvious and it kind of kills their credibility.
Yeah, and honesty getting more calories isn't that hard either. Aside from junk food, just add an extra spoonful of olive oil to your meals, eat some nuts (btw, walnuts are packed with Omega 3 too), dates, nut butters, etc.
Because the healthy side means very likely no long term illness before an early death, or just generally feeling unwell and taking unnecessary medications.
@@kasseesmythe8738 or alternatively, a vegan diet can be balanced just like any other diet? I am vegan and I eat refined carbs, vegan junk food (e.g. meat replacements) and sugary foods in moderation. I know how to take care of my body and that doesn't mean eschewing ALL even slightly bad things forever, it just means getting enough of all the macros and nutrients that you need, and not regularly eating excessive calories and/or being completely inactive.
I have been a Vegan for a whole year now, and honestly...... I love it! I feel absolutely amazing, with both my mental clarity and I just don´t any guilt at all, but there is only one thing I personally regret about being a Vegan, and that is, the fact that I didn´t become a Vegan years earlier. So can absolutely recommend to people that aren´t Vegan to try it out, sure your body might have to get use to only eating plant based, but it´s worth it! Even I went through these things in the begining, but ones you´ll get really nice into the Vegan lifestyle it´s great, trust me I´m saying this from my honest experience, so what are you waiting for? try it :D
I can see your comment is from a year ago, hope you still feel great! I am just trying vegan diet and have been watching a tons of videos on the topic and omg they are confusing!!! Different people say the complete opposite. Your comment is really inspiring so thank you! 😌
You should have added beans (black or kidney) to the pasta. You would have felt fuller and it would have balanced out all the carbs (sugar) you consumed with the pasta. The beans would have made you absorb the carbs slower. You wouldn't have craved more carbs in the following days.
Yeah, I noticed this too. He got in the grains but never really hit the beans as much as he could have. Beans did make a few appearances, but should have been highlighted more. Especially the two nutritionist should have mentioned beans. Calling Dr. Greger !
From a vegan, thank you for making such an unbiased video! If you ever want more motivation to stay vegan from an animal agriculture/cruelty perspective, I highly recommend watching the free online documentary DOMINION. Watching dominion is what pushed me to go 100% vegan and it was the best decision I ever made! Also, awesome editing in this video, I love your style and will be subscribing.
yup! i had tried to go vegan for a while and i WAS successful but frustrated that everytime i saw meat or dairy based foods i was craving it. So i watched cowspiracy, what the health, (both netflix) and animal slaughterhouse youtube videos and it totally helped kill those cravings and finally let me see what was on the plate not as "meat" or "pork" or "beef" but as cows and chickens and pigs who wanted to live and had that taken away from them or who had babies they wanted to love and nurture but were separated from at their birth.
@@lovelypacific Right? I've never focused on the "it's healthier" aspect. Nobody disagrees with the idea that more kindness is a good thing for one's self, for one's family, for one's community, etc. I've found that the "a-mazing" feeling comes from knowing I'm not at least partially responsible for causing the fear of death in another being. The dietician said something that really caught my ear. At 22:05 she says, "You can do anything. Your body, your choice." Somehow, "You CAN'T do anything. Your body MY choice" just doesn't sit well. The desire to control others (to death) stems from the lack of an ability to control one's self. "Oh, what I want to know is...ARE YOU KIND?" Garcia/Hunter
I've been vegan for well over 1 year now and I agree with Craig in that I honestly physically feel the same! But, mentally I feel so much better knowing that I'm not contributing to suffering, I'm reducing my effect on our climate and I'm fuelling my body with healthier food (well apart from the pizzas, chocolate, burgers etc... hmm maybe that's why physically I feel the same, oops!). Luckily here in the UK veganism is growing so fast that nearly everywhere has vegan options, even McDonalds! I'm so glad that you're incorporating more plant-based food into your diet :)
Sorry to say but you are contributing to suffering because of the pesticides in vegan monocultures killing tons of insects and small animals. As for the climate, vegans need to have their plants and whatnot shipped across the world creating shipping pollution. Btw grains are filled with antinutrients which irritate the gut, which inturn create leaky gut and mineral deficiencies. Removing animal products will lower the PH in your stomach which may cause acid reflux and the left eye twitching due to lack of calcium mobility (ironically enough it only took a few days for Wheezy to experience that). Parasite incubation and bateria overgrowth can also be a cause of that.
Jm Laf The definition of vegansim is to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation and cruelty to animals. This means that we know that your everyday actions e.g unknowingly stepping on a bug are unavoidable and therefore you may still consider yourself vegan. As far as animals being killed during crop production, in today’s world this is unavoidable but it is a far less damaging choice to animals, the environment and your body than choosing to consume animal products. We already create enough plant food on our planet to feed everyone living here, but due to feeding such a large percentage of what we grow to unnecessarily bred animals millions of people are starving every day. 51% of the worlds greenhouse emissions come from livestock and their byproducts. Emissions for agriculture are expected to rise to 80% by 2050, so arguing that plants are unsustainable is misinformed. As far as the health aspect is concerned, I’ll be honest I have never heard of the issues you have mentioned. But i do know that processed red meat is a class 1 carcinogen, meaning it definitely causes cancer. Calcium is found in green leafy vegetables, soy, nuts and seeds. The only thing you may have to supplement on a vegan diet is B12, this was originally found in soil but due to farming methods is now gone. Animals are supplemented this in their feed so meat eaters get this nutrient second hand via the flesh of the animal. Although b12 is commonly added to vegan milk, cheese etc so you can get enough b12 from fortified foods. If you are eating a balanced diet, be it vegan or not, calcium is not something anyone should worry about. When you first go vegan, your body goes through an adjustment period generally thought to be about 21 days. Although this varies depending on how you fuel your body. It takes many people, including myself, far longer to adjust which is unsurprising due to the fact that the large majority of us have been easing eating animal products multiple times a day. I think the most important thing about veganism is choosing to make a change, as consumers we hold the power to change how our food is produced. Personally I believe that the mass breeding and slaughter of animals is inhumane and cruel, therefore I simply align my morals with my actions. I believe in providing people with the facts, and letting them make an informed decision as these facts are so often hidden from us.
@@jmlaf13021) If your intolerant to certain grains, there are plenty of other carbs you can use like potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, etc. Leaky gut is caused by multiple long-term inflammatory markers including animal products and processed sugar. It is also caused by chronic constipation, which is associated with low fiber meals. Your digestive system has to ''push'' your bowel movements which can cause holes. 2) Having an Alkaline stomach is not exclusive to plant-based diets, but plants are much easier to digest meaning your body does not have not have to secrete as much acid. Sometimes by switching to a plant-based diet your enzymes are a little lazy and they have to adjust to high fiber intake, the same can be said for your microbiome.
@@jmlaf1302 Killing the insects on crops is currently an unavoidable result of agriculture, which is necessary for civilization. That is, feeding the world population is currently impossible without pesticides. By the same standard, we allow people to drive cars, despite knowing that this will inevitably result in a certain number of fatal accidents per year. By contrast, eating animals is unnecessary for civilization, and in fact is actively harmful to our long-term survival as a species. That's in addition to being incredibly cruel.
@@marieshark I don't support major factory farms that keep animals imprisoned. I think livestocks should be able to roam around and eat the grass instead of grains. As far as the red meat being carcinogenic, its quite hard to believe that since indigenous people eating a high meat diet didn't get cancer nor teeth problems. Cancer only really made an appearance once we started consuming tons of sugar, empty calories and processed crap and chemicals. Most minerals from nuts and seeds aren't absorbed because of the antinutrient content like phytic acid. You need to supplement way more than just b12, you need actual omega3 from animal sources since ALA in chia and flax doesnt get converted to DHA and EPA very well at all, maybe 4% if lucky. All fat soluble vitamins like A, D and K are highly missing. Carotene does not get converted to retinol very well at all. Vit D from the sun doesn't seem to cut it enough for a lot of vegans. K2 is just flat out missing. The bioavaibility of nutrients in fortified foods is questionable since you don't have the whole complex. As far as the adjustment goes, ive been maybe 90-95% plant based for 3-4 month and it fucked me over with quite a few problems. Now ive been on keto for 1 month and so far its fantastic. If the vegan diet makes you feel good, go for it. But for me, animal products and a low carbs diet helped me heal numerous issues and I do support a lot more farm raised animals instead of factory raised.

This is the best going vegan video I've even seen, Craig. I didn't feel like shouting at my screen all the time, because you got every info that people usually miss - but you were also very honest. I think it's great that at the end you will be having more vegan meals now. That's definitely the right approach. I think a lot of people dismiss changing their diet at all because they automatically think about cutting things out completely and forever. But you can just... not do that.
He specifically says he's going plant based, not vegan. And (as a vegan), I have much more respect for him. He even edits corrections when he says "vegan" and the edit jumps in with "plant based". I would love it if the whole family are able to do a bit more research and actually go vegan, but going vegan was never the aim of the video. It was all about trying plant based for a month.
Yay! I love that you acknowledged this was plant based ❤ i hope you try it again one day but for life 🌱😊 i went vegan over night because o found out what happens to the animals and i just couldn't deal with being a part of that. But if you want to go plant based totally take your time 💚
If you want something educational, read “The Vegetarian Myth.” It dives into the destructive history of agriculture-causing the devastation of prairies and forests, driving countless species extinct, altering the climate, and destroying the topsoil. Vegans and Vegetarians aren’t as ethically “good” as they think themselves to be.
Wøw! That'sAløtOfBandReferences, reading comprehension isn’t your forte, is it? We’re not talking about the health benefits of being a Vegan or Vegetarian vs other diets. We’re talking about the moral high ground that Vegans take regarding their decision for becoming one. When it reality it’s just as damaging to the environment and animals as any other diet. Also, your statement literally makes no sense. I understand, making comprehensive sentences can be difficult for those on a low fat diet (our brains main source of nourishment) I suggest getting into Keto. If you start now, it might be able to reverse your degenerating brain. Good luck.
@@nickp959 You were really itching to make that last jab, huh? Dont be such an asshole, dude. Your comment was simple. Read this book. Does that book have an answer to what scale those issues would be reduced to if we ate crops directly and skipped the energy conversion from plants to animal? Surely some issues would expand but animal agriculture is inherently inefficient for most of the planet. Also you're the one talking about reading comprehension, but I didnt say anything about health benefits of veganism? I meant simply existing causes harm to those you share the earth with. Veganism is about reducing harm. There are a million things you can do to be more ethical, being vegan is one of the easiest. I look forward to a more pleasant response...
Vegan impact? You mean all the habitats lost from monocrop culture? Or the impact on field mice whose homes are caved in and smashed by plows. Most get shredded by the machine. Even if you don’t eat animals you’re promoting animal brutality.
@@Silver-Freddy OK, I'll bite. Since the majority of crops is used to feed the animals anyway, choosing a vegan diet is still more ethical. But no vegan claims to be perfect. Veganism is the philosophical position that exploitation of and cruelty to sentient beings is ethically indefensible and should be avoided whenever it is possible and practicable to do so. Vegans themselves do not claim this position is absolute nor do they strive for perfection. Rather, the accusation that vegans fail to be vegan because they cannot be perfect is an external one imposed by people who do not understand veganism.
I really enjoy your dedication to well-reasoned, scientifically sourced discussions on these topics. Gives me a good feeling not to run into a bunch of myths. I've been hearing about you forever over on Vlogbrothers and so glad I came to check it out for myself. Appreciate your channel!
A lot of ethical vegans will come for these people for the baby steps approach, but the fiber shock to your system is a good example of why the baby steps approach shouldn’t be attacked. A vegan diet can shock the system. Some people have digestion issues, desperately miss their favorite foods, or other challenges. Slowly transitioning to veganism is super valid for a lot of people and can make it stick longer (I was vegetarian for three years before going vegan). Anyways, this was a wild cool video. You really nailed exactly how I felt when I went vegan: pretty much the same as before. But for me it wasn’t about health, it was about the animals and the environment.
I always recommend a gradual transition. Some people can do it over night, but I've found that doing it over time is easier on the body and people seem to stick with it. I went vegan for health reasons in the beginning and then learned about all the other advantages.
@@galacticgaming5058 And yet so many people don't get it! I went vegan and my family flipped out about how much protein I was getting, where I was getting my B12 and other nutrients. But when my (larger) cousin went plant-based a year later and lost a bunch of weight, they all said how proud they were and how amazing the plant-based diet is...
We went Vegan in the PHLEARN office for April. It's been painful, but everyone is shrinking like a deflating balloon. Thinking about upping the challenge to two months!
If it’s painful you’re doing it wrong. I was a committed carnivore. Last 18 mos I’m eating WFPB and it’s been great. But then I always loved veggies before, so that helped my transition.
You can do it ^^/ ~ What truly helped me was to watch some documentaries about the dairy and meat industry, as well as some vegans here on youtube that motivated me a lot, like Ellen Fisher. Wish you the best !

@@vegantina6565 I actually didn't see any rude comments from you here (so far), so I'm apologising for assuming! I'm glad you seem to have become more positive and kind since the last time I saw you somewhere. I genuinely mean it.
Hey Wheezy! Not only did watching this make my day after a particularly rough one, but as a vegan myself I'm so proud of you for giving this a go! There's a lot of hate thrown our way and I appreciated that you covered the topic with a lot of nuance and fully committed to attempting it. I do it personally for ethical reasons and I think the message at the end about the best takeaway being to limit animal products even if you don't eliminate one is a really great one. Also, Jake always makes me smile.
I was really happy to see him do this challenge and have such a positive experience. It's all about progress. He also presented the topic in a very open and respectful way.
The only thing I wish this video had included was someone talking about the ethical reasons for going vegan. You met with someone to discuss health and environment but not animal rights.
I think the animal welfare aspect is pretty self evident. Everyone knows you have to kill animals to eat them, but not everybody knows the health or environmental effects
This video is uh-mazing. I went vegetarian for a few years, and I didn't feel any different. My cholesterol went down though. I look forward to the CBD video.
this two year old video seems like a decent enough place to say that the algorithm brought me to you some time over the past week and I can't stop watching

I wanted to tell you that besides smoothies, you can veganize almost every dessert. I love to do that. Later edit: I just finished the video now, and as a plant based dude since around 4 years I must say bro, you freakin ROCK! This video is amazing. You were so unbiased, which is so unusual, I loved it. Very often people laugh at me or just think that I will die from deficiencies, even though I am 1.78 and 99 kgs, that you being so unbiased were a breath of air. You also knew about the omega 3 from chia seeds and did not eat french fries and replacement burgers, which is also amazing, you know how to eat healthy whole foods full of nutrients. Have a nice day !
@@IJoeAceJRI this is what that besides stand for. :) it means that you can veganize smoothies like he did but not only that but more. I make cakes or literally anything
JoeAceJR i get that.... I’m not an idiot. What I’m telling you is that you clearly understood what he meant aside from his “error”, and there’s absolutely NO need for you to bother trying to explain something that NOBODY misunderstood. You’re wasting your time being picky about something that doesn’t matter just like I’m wasting my time by replying to you when you obviously don’t understand such a simple concept.. Jesus nevermind hahaha
I was a massive wheezy waiter fan a few years ago, and now this video popped up in my recommended. Honestly it reminded me why I loved your content and your humour and editing have becomeven better. Thanks for trying the plant based diet! I'm a little sad your wife didn't decide to join you on it, as it's easier with support. If you have some time definitely check out forks over knives, cowspiracy and dominion. So many reasons to stick to eating plants!!
There are definitely a lot of reasons to stick with a plant-based diet. Forks over Knives was the first documentary I watched that impacted my food choices.
If he cooks more often, his wife will not get vegan, but join him eventually more often. Did the trick for me, my girlfriend isn't vegan. But now I know what she likes and I love to cook, so most of the time she eat's vegan, also her skin and hair got (even) better, that's for her a big argument. But I#m not mad at her when she eats meat only when she didn't eat up the meat.
I have been on a mostly plant based (like 95%) diet for a few years now and I feel so much better. It's nice to feel light after eating a big meal, instead of feeling like my stomach is full of rocks. I also, having sore muscles is pretty rare and much less intense for me. To be honest, the dairy stuff is what I miss the most, but I'm not super strict about it so I'll have some from time to time.
Glad you mentioned plant based and not vegan. Too much junk food (not really food) is vegan. I know too many unhealthy, thin on the outside/fat on the inside vegans. There is a huge difference between WFPB and vegan.
Definitely agree with Jarvi. I'm not big on tempeh and seitan and other meat replacements because they will inevitably be compared to the meat I'm not having. But there are so many cultures around the world with cuisines that are largely or majority vegan. Southern Indian food, specifically Dosas, is amazing and flavorful on its own merit so you don't miss meat or dairy at all.
I just think of them as completely different foods. I make my own seitan that I love because I use seasoning and ingredients that I enjoy. I can't stand tempeh though.
I think it's good to note that tempeh and seitan aren't really "meat replacements" in the cultures they're from - they're just another use of soy, but the West tends to use them that way. They're good as long as you don't expect them to taste anything like meat, because they don't! Also, I'm Indian, and honestly half the reason I'm still vegetarian after moving out of my parents' house is because Indian vegetarian food is sooooo gooooooooood
Tempeh is not a meat replacement, it is just awesome in it's own right, my wife is Indo and it's a staple there and for our family, and we're def not vegan.
I'm a big fan of tempeh. I can see how it can be used as meat replacement, as I've made a really good Italian sausage with tempeh. Although, it's great on it's own and absorbs the flavors you're using to cook it. I would consider Beyond Meat and Gardein as meat substitutes.
Culture does not mean its moral. What about Yulin Dog festival? thats a culture, doesn't mean it is morally the right thing to do. Culture does not dictate morality.
@@jaredadams5748 in that culture they would not consider it immoral. Since we do not belong to a society with ritual virgin sacrifices (supposedly) we would find it immoral. Many aspects of american culture are repulsive to those on the outside.
Well I went vegan for a month (I'm usually Vegetarian) and it was okay. I'm an aspiring cook so I don't really want to limit myself further. But it really wasn't that bad, I'm just kinda not convinced of the motivation and I get annoyed by people who treat it like the bible. I decided to switch to Almond Milk instead of Milk and similar things for the future but I will still be using cheese and eggs tbh. Couldn't find a satisfying solution for those and I despise the idea of going radical with everything especially with food. I have always been looking out to get good quality ingredients so I don't feel bad for using eggs for example. I think there needs to be some kind of balance. Also I'm 18 and from Germany btw
This editing is everything! hahhahahaha Anyway, thanks for keeping an open mind throughout the whole process. I really enjoyed watching this, it really shows in details all the, so to say, issues with going vegan, we all can relate with this, but what I appreciate the most is the fact that you approached this topic in a very objective manner. I've watched tons of other similar videos and it usually comes down to people whining about Veganism being too hard and stuff like that. You were being honest about it and that what I liked the most. I know it can get hard at times, especially around family and friends, so kudos to you for holding your ground. Hope you'll consider it again at some point in the future, but this time take it easy on viber! hahah Best of luck to you and your family! :)
I was vegetarian for 7 years, always trying to be fully vegan all this time. I finally made it December 2019, never felt better. I must eat about that, 50 to 80g of fiber a day, no digestive problems. I would try natural prebiotics and probiotics if you're struggling with digestion on a vegan diet. Also drink lots of water! Some people don't drink water but I was always a water drinker.
Prebiotics are just fiber! So if you’re eating enough fiber rich foods, that will feed some of the probiotics you ingest through either supplements or fermented foods. So, I wouldn’t recommend prebiotics to anybody suffering from gas due to fiber :-)
tintin it’s bc he went from half of tht to double of tht which is not good. If he was like I went from 60g to 70g then it wouldn’t have gotten tht much of a reaction
@@crystal-lv1dp I see.. That might explain why hemp protein powder fucks me right up when having large doses just from time to time, stuff is so much fiber. I learn everyday :P
If you try that again, get stats on your cholesterol etc. Then you could tell if it is really making a big change internally. It would be interesting to hear
Def try Gardein's vegan meatballs! You could have eaten fast food from Chipotle, Carl's Jr., Taco Bell, and on and on and on. Thank you for using your platform for good and for being honest.
There are definitely some great options, however, I think he was trying to stay mostly plant-based, right? Abstaining from a lot of vegan junk food, therefore.
I am switching between being Vegetarian and not being Vegetarian every week for Health reasons and Oatmeal Milk REALLY tastes better then Cow Milk after 1 Week or so.
@@GBoz94 Yeah i feel that it just tastes better with Oatmeal. And my tongue tell me its less salty then cows milk. I did it for health reasons: I had intractable migraines and hadn't intended to eat only plant-based, but the migraine elimination diet led me to discover that the inflammation cascade that triggered my every other day migraine was from animal products, but that's just my experience.
@@polentusmax6100 The diet reduced them from about 15-20/month down to 1-3, so I will still get one if something else triggers, like lack of sleep, but it's made a dramatic difference.
didnt expect this, but 4 months in and veganism has helped with both my insomnia and depression, I can focus in class more at college. on top of that, i care about both animal liberation and the environment, but never had the guts to go vegan, but its piss easy so woo
Makes sense with the depression, at least. If you feel you're contributing to something good, it improves your mood. Isn't like, volunteering, getting out and doing stuff one of the things that are recommended for people with depression to feel like they're worth something?
Personally, once I started getting better sleep, everything else followed. I had been struggling with insomnia from my early teens into my mid twenties though. I think in general that focusing on self improvement or working towards personal values is key to eventually escaping depression. Going vegan may apply on a personal level for one individual, but its not necessarily going to benefit everyone else in the same way. I'm glad it worked for OP though.
I’m like the opposite, I went vegan for 2 years and got super skinny. I eat mostly animal products now and feel and look my best. Funny how different people are, maybe race or country of origin is a factor
@@Silver-Freddy vegans have to eat 10x more food than people who have a balance diet with meat. Starving yourself of calories is what makes you lose weight. That's why veganism is dangerous for developing children, they simply don't eat as much as adult do. Sometimes I just eat just 1 steak in a day and it's all I need.
I cut massively down on dairy and only drink plant based milk it feels amazing. Dairy always bloated me and I later found out I'm lactose intolerant (which many Chinese people are, I'm half) and I still get all the calcium and protein I need. Soya milk is sooo good.

Yea, the healthiest diet someone can eat is a balance one of all the food groups.

So very true !!!

I don't know anyone who boils vegetables
What a dumb thing to say about 300 million Americans of diverse ethnicities.
Idk how you don't get enough calories as a vegan when peanut butter, rice, and bread exist.
tbh.
Because people don't understand diet.
Seitan flour it’s great for protein 100g gives you 80g of protein ( more tan any meat )
beans also massively high in protein per 100g it’s 40g ish (slightly more than meat) in protein
Add rice in the mix for your carbs/ sweet potatoes...the key is don’t eat for taste eat for gains, it’s the same if your cutting as you would if you eat meat
Being vegan just means you can eat more and still have a calorie deficit so you lose body fat and hold your muscle easier... in my opinion
Also lentils, pasta and plethora of vegetables ♥️

@@tjj4lab our bodies are more than capable to produce all the cholesterol we need.

@@jaredwolff3001 that's pure nonsense. Meat is very easy to digest and is almost completely absorbed before it reaches the colon. It's the plant material that rots in your colon and causes the smell and flatulence

I can't speak for this guy (who's great btw watch his channel!)
But I find I think consideration of all factors which negatively impact the environment could lead to a rather constricted lifestyle, take using the internet for example:
“Twenty milligrams of CO2 are generated every second that someone is using a simple website."
When I went vegan I told my nutritionist how much kale I was eating and she said "oh boy"
Was that a good “oh boy” or a bad “oh boy” 😂

I have been a Vegan for a whole year now, and honestly...... I love it! I feel absolutely amazing, with both my mental clarity and I just don´t any guilt at all, but there is only one thing I personally regret about being a Vegan, and that is, the fact that I didn´t become a Vegan years earlier. Forget black beans, those make me fart so much and smell way worse than other types of beans. The same problem happened to my mom and sister

@@lovelypacific that's awesome! Great work for making the connection when most others would just give up ❤

"It totally could be you just got a virus"
...well I certainly hope not.

Veganism contributes to all the same problems animal agriculture does.

@@vegantina6565 I actually didn't see any rude comments from you here (so far), so I'm apologising for assuming! I'm glad you seem to have become more positive and kind since the last time I saw you somewhere. I genuinely mean it.
Valeria Vagapova no need to apologize. It’s all good.
Me too, I was thinking the same when I saw the video
I think the animal welfare aspect is pretty self evident. Everyone knows you have to kill animals to eat them, but not everybody knows the health or environmental effects
I'm a vegan Texan LOL
So happy you tried it out and learned something from it! :)
This video is uh-mazing. I went vegetarian for a few years, and I didn't feel any different. My cholesterol went down though. I look forward to the CBD video.
You'e really mastered this new style of video, Craig! Super interesting. Love the longer format!
this two year old video seems like a decent enough place to say that the algorithm brought me to you some time over the past week and I can't stop watching
"I went zero waste for a month".... your next challenge :p ??
Sounds literally impossible
@@bryans5878 have you ever looked it up or tried lol
@@samueldelacroix6358 I just did. Sounds for people without a social life.
@@bryans5878 how so???
I am doing it since january, it is easier than you think and I have a social life don't worry ;-) just need to find the place to buy your stuff without any plastic or anything else. In Europe it is more and more present !
This video was exceptionally made and highly enjoyable. Thanks for being so respectful and factual
I've been vegan for 3 years, thanks for trying it, you are so funny I really had fun watching this.
That was awesome. We’ve been vegan for 1 month and don’t miss anything.
Your parents comedic timing is on point.
siulsomar17 is your mum Jordan Peterson’s sister?
@@IJoeAceJRI did I say otherwise?
@@IJoeAceJRI this is what that besides stand for. :) it means that you can veganize smoothies like he did but not only that but more. I make cakes or literally anything
JoeAceJR stop acting like you don’t know exactly what they meant. It wasn’t difficult to understand whatsoever. Lol
@@mayafrancis6660 Dear your wasting your time and your sanity/ health by continuing on with this rant feed. Let it go.
@@VinceLia1 i went for the environment, and then did feel exactly how that cab driver described : AWESOME. So yeah, I have never looked back.
Tempeh is not a meat replacement, it is just awesome in it's own right, my wife is Indo and it's a staple there and for our family, and we're def not vegan.
tofu, tempeh, and seitan aren't replacement foods. replacement foods refers to the artificial meat replacements like boca and beyond meat.
Culture does not dictate morality.
you are exactly right and that's why you can't say its wrong, either.
@@crashandfriends huh?
Culture exactly dictates our morals...study some history lady
@@harrylong2796 just because something is in your culture DOES NOT make it moral. Is sacrificing virgins moral? Thats a cultural thing.
This editing is everything! hahhahahaha
Anyway, thanks for keeping an open mind throughout the whole process.
Hope you'll consider it again at some point in the future, but this time take it easy on viber! hahah
Best of luck to you and your family! :)
perfectly said and couldn't agree more!
I am so much happier after going vegan. I have more energy and don't feel guilty after ever meal!
Congrats for going vegan. Glad to hear it's working for you.
I'm not vegan. Still have plenty of energy eating low carb and no sugar. And I NEVER feel guilty after every meal.
You should never feel guilty for eating anything!
Unless it's guilt about animals suffering, then that's understandable
@@CrownedLily psychopath?
Your wife’s hair looks absolutely amazing in this video 🥰
Everyone laughing at your fiber intake really got me
70 is pretty normal if you eat whole plant foods right !
I eat fish and meat and I still get at least 70 grams of fiber everyday. I did not understand why they were so shocked
tintin it’s bc he went from half of tht to double of tht which is not good. If he was like I went from 60g to 70g then it wouldn’t have gotten tht much of a reaction
@@crystal-lv1dp I see.. That might explain why hemp protein powder fucks me right up when having large doses just from time to time, stuff is so much fiber. I learn everyday :P
R y a n R o m a n He didn’t up his water intake, though. He wasn’t passing that fibre... 😣
If you try that again, get stats on your cholesterol etc. Then you could tell if it is really making a big change internally. It would be interesting to hear
That would be really interesting. I ask people to do the same thing so they can see for themselves.
Def try Gardein's vegan meatballs! You could have eaten fast food from Chipotle, Carl's Jr., Taco Bell, and on and on and on. Thank you for using your platform for good and for being honest.
It's amazing at all the vegan options you can find. Not only at family restaurants, but at fast food places as well.

I am Vegan for several hours everyday, I'd say nearly 95% or more of the day.
Yeah Ive just started buying oatmeal milk instead too!!

Yeah i feel that it just tastes better with Oatmeal. And my tongue tell me its less salty then cows milk.
I eat 250 g of Oatmeal every day with Oatmilk and 30 g of Whey Protein and a Cut in Ripe Banana and 100 g of mixed Nuts cause i am a Natural Bodybuilder.
i eat that since 1 year now and i dont get tired of it. You can also use Cacao instead of Whey Protein Powder its cheaper but has more sugar.

I did it for health reasons: I had intractable migraines and hadn't intended to eat only plant-based, but the migraine elimination diet led me to discover that the inflammation cascade that triggered my every other day migraine was from animal products, but that's just my experience.
Do you still have headaches, its better or worst now?
@@polentusmax6100 The diet reduced them from about 15-20/month down to 1-3, so I will still get one if something else triggers, like lack of sleep, but it's made a dramatic difference.
Bro your mom is hysterical plz give her a spin-off oh my gawwd
didnt expect this, but 4 months in and veganism has helped with both my insomnia and depression, I can focus in class more at college. on top of that, i care about both animal liberation and the environment, but never had the guts to go vegan, but its piss easy so woo
There's a lot of money saved too from not buying animal protein.
Huh, that's weird... plants helped me improve in the same areas when I was in college. Only difference is I was smoking them, not eating them.
That's awesome. I cured my insomnia and depression via paleo.
Going vegan made me feel a little better but eating better and eating more whole plant based foods my life changed
