The PvP Grind is RIDICULOUS! | Getting Every Achievement in FFXIV #12

- Few things in Final Fantasy XIV are as unforgiving as pvp achievements. From Crystalline Conflict, to Frontlines, to Rival Wings, player killing in an MMO has never been as much of a chore as it is here. But that doesn't mean we can't still have some fun with it! So saddle up and let's go pwn the nubs!

lalachievements: lalachievement...
Realizing you’re focusing the wrong team, but being unable to do anything about it because the rest of your team is locked in, is that Frontlines experience we all know and love
Happened to me a few days ago.
Red team focused Yellow down to stay at 0 the whole time while blue time took advantage to gain the lead and win
@@RedLightz_TV I've only ever been the unfocused team once. That was fun. We had a several hundred point lead on Onsal Hakair before the other guys noticed
Commit to the kills!
Have you tried complaining in alliance chat?
people dont listen.@@LobsterHorde
Has anyone else noticed that Child Labor has been the quest up on the screen for every video in the series so far? I love it.
I NEVER NOTICED 😂
Yup. I'm pretty sure Cider will never complete that quest lol.
It's been there since he did Abyssos. I am one hundred percent sure it's intentional.
@@varia2354oh yeah 100% especially since it’s basically done😂 leaving just one person is so funny to me
Pvp is my favorite way to get moogle tomestones during events, and I definitely didn't forget to show my total tomestone earnings at the end of the video. What's your favorite tome farm?
Wings. Alot of matches are just straight up sitcom stuff.
Roulettes, GATEs, and ocean fishing. Plus the bonuses and I already got everything I need just casually.
This tome farm is different but we'll i usually only need around max 200 tomes to get everything so i just go around spamming Frontline hoping for a win or kill for the final achievements. I have all the pvp mounts so i can say I'm pretty good at knowing pvp. I even have pvp achievements you can't get at the moment. So prepare for a long grind. My advice. Do one daily, and if you wanna grind put some UA-cam Netflix whatever on. Ps. I have Beáta of the firmament as title...and got sick otherwise have gotten the beauty title...so i know my grinds. I even had all the faro titles before they put garo back. So yeah I'm an old school achievement hunter.
Ps stop using all achievements, all achievements players use ffcollect.
Dungeons. I know, I know, but I need levels.
... Having never played FF, I read that as "Tombstones", and got a very morbid picture
Can't wait for Cider Spider's fishing arc to begin and take up 50 videos worth of content
As someone who just got the stupid frickin 10k ocean fishing pointy achievement and mount
OH MY GOD THE OCEAN ACHIVEMENTS ARE 20% SKILL AND 100% LUCK FOR THE STUPID RNG
@@Ax-xo4ux "Woah, the next boat is stacked! If you triple hook these fish in these spectral currents, you instantly get 1.5k points, double that if they're large! This will be easy!"
*Spectral current never triggers in any zone, the highest scoring person on the boat only got 4.5k and you just feel like you wasted 25 minutes of your life*
@@SunChaoJun The guy who solo'd fishing to 90 by never leaving limsa had the sheer terror of the ocean fishing shenanigans. I got to 90 fishing without ever doing ocean, because it intimidated me, lmao!
I got 9k points on a level 30 fisher, trust me its not nearly as bad as a majority of the big fish 😔
Note that there are also the GARO PvP Achievements. Which includes 1 achievement for EVERY SINGLE JOB that gives a title (obtained by wearing all of said job's Garo gear when talking to the merchant you buy them from) as well as having one of those titles active when winning 30 CC matches, 10 FL matches and 60 of either for three more achievements.
I recently finished doing those latter three and I'm glad to be done with them.
They're "limited" achievements though, so they don't count toward the GAMER SCORE that Cider's tracking.
I did it back when the Feast was still a thing and you kept your standard move kit. Feast could either last less then 30 seconds or the full lock out time. it kinda sucked. so did leveling everything to 60 via palace of the dead to get the achieves.
Those don't count towards Lalachievements score since they're technically limited-time event achievements, but they're still good to get. If you're farming PvP anyway there's no reason not to get them - you'll run out of other things to spend Marks on anyway, and all you need to do is slap on one of the titles while you're farming other PvP shit.
@@Caittus How come they're limited anyway? I thought the makai stuff wasn't going anywhere, the titles aren't going anywhere?
They poofed once before. @@greyngo
"You can't solo 20 people"
Not with that attitude!
It's nearly impossible to do. I've seen 21 before, in a premade alliance that qued in using discord to time an instance were they'd be the only ones in there... but for random play, like you're supposed to do, I've only seen someone get to 18 or 19 before.
My personal record is 12 solo kills in one match, and 25 in an hour of play. I was using black-mage and summoner those matches. BLM is awesome if you can find a partner who is also playing it. They have tons of stun locks and status effects.
The match I killed 12 solo, was with an alliance where I coordinated attacks with 2 summoners and 2 other blackmages.
Legitimately looking forward to the next 100 intermittent videos of PvP! Hello me in 3 years, looking back to remember where this all began!
Now that's thinking ahead!
Fun fact, we've had not one but TWO TDM modes in FFXIV history.
The first one The Wolves' Den was a 1-life only arena, which got removed in Stormblood. Followed by The Feast which was a TDM mode with respawns which got removed in Endwalker.
Ironically both would benefited a ton from the balance changes made with Crystalline Conflict (because the issue with both was job balance was out of wack and hard to do, not the core gameplay itself) but I suppose Square Enix figured to just throw the baby out with the bathwater... _twice._
yeah if im being 100% honest i much more liked the TDM style and the 1 life style your knowledge ment more honestly. sadly with CC it feels like who ever gets the better comp just auto wins.
@@xwartornx Yeah tbh I deeply miss The Feast myself. Playing CC just makes me realize how _smooth_ the abilities would work in a TDM style game mode.
CC, Frontlines, and Rival Wings are all _fine_ I suppose but sometimes you just wanna _BONK_ y'know?
Feast was peak. Would've been even more peak with new pvp system.@@DuskEalain
@@shi4833 Agreed, respawns being a thing meant getting cheesed was less problematic, Culling Time was good for keeping healers in their place, and just having an all out brawl was fun. The new PVP system would've fit it like a glove (and addressed the issue of job balance perfectly.)
And yet Fontline, the worst PvP mode ever made and that the community, from the start, has been vocal with how awful it is, is still in the game and shoved down your throat in the form of a Daily Roulette that gives so much XP you can't ignore it if you are leveling a job.
Since last week's video, I have delivered my 60th collectable to Kai-Shirr (5 points), synthesized my 300th CUL recipe between levels 11 and 20 (5 points), synthesized my 750th CUL recipe between levels 21 and 30 (5 points), synthesized my 1500th CUL recipe between levels 31 and 40 (5 points), extracted my 1000th materia from a fully spiritbound item (10 points), crafted my 500th high quality CUL recipe (5 points), defeated Ruby Weapon EX for the first time (10 points), completed the Valentione's Day event (10 points), completed the second-to-last step for the AST anima weapon (20 points), completed the final step for the AST anima weapon (20 points), completed the final step for the DRG Mandervillous weapon (10 points) and defeated Innocence EX for the first time (10 points). I have gained 115 points since the last video and now stand at 19,335 achievement points ingame or 18,240 using the Lalachievements scoring system. I am now ranked at #73 on Adamantoise, up two ranks since last week. Grind on, achievement hunters!
I was at the store today and saw a toddler crying. I thought "mad because small". 😆
For playing NIN, save LB for tanks below 50% health. Not only is it max effective, but the instakill effect isn't balanced for Frontline and any other job can be dead by the time the animation is over. Also, I don't... really play NIN as melee. Chuck fireballs and shurikens from a distance. Purify -> Guard -> Shukuchi to get the heck out of almost anything (including the DRK/AST combo if you're fast). I generally go 9/1/16 on NIN, but ironically get way less kills if my team is good and MORE kills if my team is uncoordinated.
That said, if you really want to win, job matters way less than shot-calling well. You can get like a 75-80% win rate just by keeping *most* people coordinated.
The MCH LB edits were hilarious. Another great video thank you! This got me through my work shift.
Getting one of the PVP 1000 wins title as a role took me about (on and off with gaps between) half a year to get with me intensively only playing CC when I logged on.
I see Umbral Freeze 3 at the corner of my bed whenever I try to go to sleep now.
About that holmgang chain, that's a weird bug where effects persist, somehow. Funny part is, it may also appear in other areas. I had that bug before with the red shield from the second boss of The Aitiascope, and I would just find that shield in random sports in other areas, and it was very funny looking into the abyss of Ultima Thule and seeing a purple wall or seeing it half buried in a wall in Tempest.
The STRONGEST ability in frontlines is marking targets.
No one votes me to be the guy to mark targets, but I do anyway and the coordination is INSANE. A single “1” floating over a head attracts EVERYONE in your party to attack. HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING IT
Nothing like either having both teams gang up on you and keep your team perpetually near 0 points while never engaging with each other, or having a somewhat decent start when suddenly one team goes berserk and blockades you into your spawn while the third team gets all the goals with no resistance
Big fan of the floating bind chains in the middle of nowhere at 18:16
Eating Breakfast on Saturday and watching the new Cider Spider Video has become one of my favorite things of the week
You wouldn’t believe the little burst of happiness I get whenever I realize it’s Friday and there’s a new vid from you!
not to mention some PVP maps actually have objectively unfair spawn locations. Like in Seal rock, if you spawn south, you have way more potential nodes spawns in your viscinity
"I didn't realize my whole party was - TAKING A FIELD TRIP." got me good XD
Great video, look forward to these every week now.
literally how i feel whenever i'm in PvP and in the fray. suddenly, i'm alone, dead, and everyone else had already left.
The original PVP mode back in ARR (along with Frontline) actually was a traditional team arena mode (so no respawn, last team standing), it was originally called The Wolves Den but got renamed to The Fold when they introduced The Feast in Heavensward. It could be played in 4v4 or 8v8 modes and was basically just a traditional no gimmicks fight. Not counting the normal PVP gimmicks from back then. Got removed in Stormblood.
It would be somewhat interesting to see what an arena or deathmatch style PVP mode would be like now with all the improvements to PVP. Maybe even bring back Frontline deathmatch, but that would probably be an even bigger mess...
I feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one who was utterly baffled by rival wings on their first attempt. Seeing Cider's bewilderment was so validating. xD
Same!! I played rival wings a few days ago and I felt like a total moron, especially since my team members were being passive agressive AF in chat saying things like 'wow, I said mech up why is there only one mech do you guys want to win or what?'
:')
Thanks to this video I cannot unhear "I rarely miss" when getting sniped by Marksman's Spite
"Come on snipe me i dare you!" my favourite words to hear from a BLM as a MCH main in PVP
This series has been so fun to watch. It's great to see a unique take on 14 content.
I love this series. It's inspired me to... well not get all of the achievments because I'm a solo player and there's no way I'm doing PvP, but it's inspired me to at least boost my ranking as much as possible. And because of that I've been experiencing so much content I overlooked or just never knew existed. It's been great. The game has felt new for the first time in a long time.
I'm one of those people that play PVP everyday, even outside of the events. At first I hated it, but then I was like "maybe it's just the learning curve." So I decided to play for several days until I got the hang of it, and now I love it.....and I hate it. In my opinion, PVP is like junk food or being in a bad relationship. You know she treats you like crap, but she can be fun sometimes. You know it's not healthy to eat it, but it hits the spot occasionally. Sometimes when you get stuck with that team that knows how to properly follow up and you slaughter the opposition, it's amazing! And then the other times you get stuck with 23 first timers and I hate it! I was literally playing PVP I got the notification for your video lol.
I absolutely love Frontline most of the time. I've learned the key to truly enjoying frontline is to stop caring about winning. This doesn't mean just not playing well or anything, but if you're focused too much on always winning, it's gonna feel like shit because a lot of time you're gonna be placed in situations where no matter how good you as an individual are, you just are not gonna win.
The only real issue i have with ff14 pvp is the simple fact some jobs just feel WAY to strong in CC take Monk or Dragoon both of which can kill you in a blink of an eye. Then you have frontline where its pretty much just RNG.
That's exactly why frontlines is just a complete garbage pvp mode, it's 100% RNG. Even if you do get a good team sometimes the RNG of node spawns on some maps will fuck you over. CC is much better for just doing pvp imo, although that mode is far from perfect either. Just adding duo queues for that would make it so much better
@@xwartornx "which can kill you in a blink of an eye" be glad that you did not play frontline back when it used the same damage model as CC, dragoons would wipe entire teams off the map and ninjas were unkillable, but now all jobs in frontline has passive damage resistance so only if you are a caster, then you might die instantly since they have the least damage resistance in that game mode
@@soldierorsomething true but also currently Astro+Drk can wipe an entire team.
And now Cider comes to the #1 reason I would never go for 100% obtainable achievement completion in this game, even with unlimited free time. The PVP achievements in this game are completely fucking nuts.
This gon b gud
edit: also this is making me realize how much I need to learn a ranged class for FL, damn
edit2: Rival Wings is really great once you learn the basics, imo. Strongly recommend finding a good beginner guide or something.
MCH is selfish but good for killing and the turret is good area denial for objective runs. i hate DNC's changes so i have nothing to say about that. BRD is good for getting BH cause you can get so many assists especially with LB.
Get bursted! That was fun to watch.
I think PVP achievements are a big reason I don’t see myself going for completion in FFXIV. They’re asking for a diabolical number of wins. That said, I'd love to participate in PVP. But free trial players can’t get in. Lol.
Patiently waiting for Blue Mage content.
Specially waiting the Glittier than Goldor achievements.
Great video as always! When it comes to Rival Wings the big thing to me about it is there isn't much reason to more than anything about the game mode. Frontlines can just be a boring cluster fuck where the team who wins is basically random but you get a once a day XP bonus or some tomestones so y'know why not? Along with it being the only one you can queue in with a friend or two. And Crystal Conflict is just actually a blast to play so it doesn't need to be flexed on the roulette page.
Rival Wings I think can be fun once you learn the basics but it takes a lot of people, and the time of frontlines without the once a day reward incentive for casuals. So it is at the bottom of the pvp menu hidden away and a lot of the time you'll be in queue for ages and even after an hour it doesn't pop, which has an even further chilling effect on the game mode.
The Holmgang is a rare bug where a spell effect will get... I don't know, registered to the wrong bit of memory or something, and it just never gets cleared? It's possible for it to happen in the overworld, and in fact it can persist between different maps. I remember having an Asylum floating in the middle of the Sea of Clouds because an S rank in Coerthas West had so many spell effects going that it got stuck.
Reloading the client fixes it though, so I doubt they'll ever need to fix it.
on Endwalker release day as I was grinding reaper in zadnor, this glitch kept on happening with one of the sage's abilities, leaving a glowing blue orb behind. there were eventually so fucking many of these floating around that the game became unable to load basic visual effects, like aoe circles. that was not a fun day to have to reload the client
Friendly advice to anyone who sees this, while Crystaline Conflict locks you into your job choice, Frontlines allows you to swap freely during the match
I don't know who you are I don't know why the algorithm suggested the channel some time ago and for the love of god i don't even care about achievements. And yet i'm loving every minute of it Keep it up
I would listen to Cider Spider narrate pretty much anything at this point.
Pvp is very fun to do with friends if you are all vibing and don't get sweaty about winning and accept that it's basically rng, and that by not personally sucking too badly you are at slightly better odds for winning :3
For frontlines, you could try summoner, astro or dragoon for farming kills. Focus on getting battle high from assists especially on astro and summoner because you have so much aoe power, while staying pretty safe, and then the kills will start rolling in. Scholar is also strong but has a bit less personal kill power than the others.
In rival wings, your lb charges so fast and you don't lose much for dying, so playing high risk high reward is worth it - so I usually play dragoon, ninja, machinist. The damage scaling is different in rw too - more similar to cc, with less in terms of job-specific balance scaling like how frontlines has. And the most overlooked strat is that killing mammets is higher priority than killing players! They drop ceruleum (for summoning mechs) when they die, plus they need to die for you to push lanes. And killing mammets for ceruleum means you don't have to leave lane to pick up the ones on the ground.
Oh, and even if your team is going to the "wrong" place, it is the right place to go because that's where the team is.
I see we independently had the same idea - this is the only time that Rival Wings is populated, so if you want the achievements for it you should be playing it now. Incidentally Primal is my home DC - I didn't realize it was also the best one for this. I've played maybe 20 games of Rival Wings by now so I can explain some of what's going on.
As you said, the main objective is to destroy the enemy towers and then their core. This is mostly achieved through using mechs, and controlling objectives. Objectives matter WAYYYYY more than kills in this game mode - kills practically don't matter at all if you're not getting objective control out of them. The two main objectives are the Supply Drop on the middle platform train, and the Goblin Mercenary at either the North or South lane. Both of these spawn every few minutes, and you're alerted in the UI as to when and where they'll be.
You get the Mid objective by just having your party claim the point, similar to point capture in something like Overwatch. The possible drops are:
- Main Ceruleum Tank: gives you resources for spawning mechs
- Gobtank: summons a tank in each lane for your team that's a huge pain in the ass to kill and does a lot of damage to towers
- Gobcrate: Gives you Ceruleum and LB charge
- Gobbiejuice: Gobcrate but worse. Basically worthless.
Getting MCT or Gobtank (especially Gobtank in my experience) can single-handedly carry your team. DO NOT ignore them. Gobcrate is okay but not worth abandoning other objectives for, Gobbiejuice is worthless and should be ignored.
You get the Goblin Mercenary objective by hitting the Goblin that spawns until the bar above his head fills up to your team's color. When you do this, he'll go in the lane he spawned by and fight the enemy team. He's similar to Gobtank but only for one lane, and can make a big difference.
The other main thing is Mechs. To summon a mech your alliance needs 50 ceruleum (CE). Only one person per alliance can be in a mech at once (there's 5 alliances per team, so 5 total mechs). There's also some other restrictions on a couple of them that I don't totally get. If you live long enough in a mech to run out of mana then you can spend another 25 CE to refill a bit and keep blasting. The three ways to get CE are through the MCT, picking up tanks on the ground (especially near Mid), and killing enemy mammets (minions). The mechs have different niches:
- Cruise Chaser: Good at killing people and mechs, terrible at destroying towers. Escort other mechs so they can focus on towers.
- Oppressor: Good at destroying towers, terrible at killing anything. Stay at a safe distance and shoot missiles at towers and the core.
- Brute Justice: Good at everything. Can only spawn if one of your towers has been destroyed. Use Rocket Punch on structures and the other moves for killing.
None of the mechs are very good at staying alive by themselves, and they're all practically incapable of hitting anyone who's right on top of them. You ideally want to pressure a lane with one or two Opps/BJs and a couple of Cruise Chasers/normal players to escort them and keep enemies away from them. Oppressors can also target the enemy core from the middle area, so watch out for that. This is what "opps mid" means if you see anyone call that out - it means an enemy oppressor is sneakily hitting your base.
Other random stuff: enemy mammets give CE when killed, and if they get to your tower/core they explode and deal a bunch of damage. They're not the most important thing but they shouldn't be ignored. There's also a couple of cannons at your base that you can get in and shoot at enemies who are in your base or in the mid area near your base.
In terms of attack priority, kill enemy Brute Justices/Oppressors/Goblins, then enemy Cruise Chasers, then enemy mammets, then enemy players. Like I said, kills practically don't matter. Go for Mid (if it's a useful drop) and the Mercenary whenever they're up unless there's like a big mech actively hitting your base or something. Get in a mech when your team has 50 CE, don't let it just sit there unused. Hit towers and complain about your team ignoring objectives :^)
Anyway, that was way longer than I anticipated but hopefully it helps someone! I think the mode is more fun than Frontlines once you understand it, but maybe not quite as fun as CC.
And anyway here's my achievement highlights for the week:
- All ARR Relic Weapons (except WAR which I already had) (just the first stage which is the only one that gives achievements for each weapon)
- 50 tradecraft leves and 80 unique Carpenter leves
- 90 Deliveries to Charlemend
- The Head, the Tail, the Whole Damned Thing FATE
- 100 Shadowbringers A-Ranks and 200 total S-Ranks
lol 21:47 Literally the first person to tell me where battlehigh is shown on my screen, how to know what other peoples battlehigh is.
regarding scoring kills in Frontlines, i have great success playing as a MCH. reassemble drill limit break is an instant oneshot once you build some battle high.
truthfully tho, the best way to get kills in frontlines is the most basic tip youve ever heard. ALWAYS BE CASTING! the #1 rule of FF14 combat is the ABCs, it applies in frontlines too. play your Black Mage, keep your distance, and keep that GCD spinning on whichever stupid idiot thinks its a good idea to step towards you. as it turns out, hes not too fond of fire!
i myself have scored games as DRG, MCH, SMN, and BLM with over 25 kills each, and when i earned the 5000 kills achievement, my average kills per match was 7 kills every match. with a 40% winrate when 33% is average, im truly a terror to meet on the battlefield!
As someone who got the 100 Rival Wings win achievement I can tell that in like 70% of the games I played that initial skirmish was probably the decisive factor in that team winning. I have seen teams manage to bungle it, usually by a player who does not know what they are doing getting in a mech they have no idea how to use that is critical to actually winning Rival Wings. But the worst thing about the mode is when the game gets in a weird stalemate of one team being definitely in the lead but the other team just refuses to die and the match goes to time. It feels bad for everyone, just like a complete waste of at least 10 minutes of time.
I do suggest that if you want to improve at Rival Wings you take over mech duties, mostly because if you are good at the mechs it means someone bad at them is not piloting one of them.
Yeah I get so sad when people waste mechs. Just let dis baby drive and punch nexus to death \0/
I see you finally arrived at my favourite content. 100 wins in seize changes a man but I can proudly wear my field commander coat. I can only recommend to treat frontline like a daily thing. Play till you have 3 wins and then stop and continue next day. I wish you the best of luck!
Bro that’s impressive, you’ve learned the little niches of pvp in such a short span of time. Some people who’ve been playing for years still don’t know them. Like when to guard, keep an eye for drk/tanks diving, best time to counter is right after the drk and their team bursts, etc. Kudos!
With Rival Wings, people don't queue because it lacks rewards, it is fun once you understand it. However the main problem is there is no suitable tutorial to teach players how each mech is utilized which can turn the tide of the match if someone uses a mech improperly.
The basic mechanics come down to.
-Mammets are used to target towers, you can defeat Mammets to get fuel for mechs.
-Cruise Chaser Fast moving Mech with mobility
Spin Crusher, Slash attack(Deals damage to other Mechs)
Laser Sword X, Cone AOE(Deal dmg to Mechs and players)
Optical Sight, Longer Range Target AOE(Deal dmg to mechs and players)
Energy Recharge which gives you more resources to use your abilities at the cost of Fuel.(ALL Mechs have this ability)
--Main Purpose of the Cruise Chaser is to play defense to prevent the opponent from destroying your tower while also playing defense in defending your Oppressor and Brute Justice.
-Oppressor Slow moving Mech for Tower Busting
Steam Release, Knockback(Deals dmg to Players and Mechs)
3000-Tone Missile, Target AOE that deals massive dmg to towers and base.
--Main Purpose is Tower Busting, Steam Release can be used to get melee units off you but it's more important to try and fire the Missiles on tower as many times as possible rather than focus on the enemy attacks
Brute Justice, is a special Mech that is only accessible based on how many of your towers are down MAX:2, Movement speed is in between Chase and Opressor
Double Rocket Punch, Small range Circle Target AOE with multipurpose.
--Stuns players and deals decent dmg
--Deals decent dmg to Mechs
--Deals Decent dmg to towers
Flamethrower, Large Cone AOE that deals massive dmg to Mechs and players
Mega Beam, Line AOE that deals massive dmg to players and mechs while also knocking back players.
Last important mechanic to be aware of is the Goblin Merc, opposing sides deal dmg to the Merc and the side that is able to fill their bar to the max gains control of the Merc which deals decent dmg to mammets and towers. Goblin Merc can turn the tide of a fight as it forces players to shift their attention onto the Merc if it's in a lane where a tower may already be destroyed.
But basically if you can understand the above it's possible the content could be more fun for you, it is a lot to take in because the game makes 0 effort to attempt to offer a tutorial. When it comes to win rate, you can greatly increase your odds by giving yourself adequate knowledge of the mechs because a well-versed Mech user who knows what they are doing can greatly turn the tide of the match.
You're really nailing these videos, Cider! Great work.
oh man RW is such a fun mode, I hope you enjoy it once you catch the basics :D
People queue for this eveeery tomestone event on the entire EU and its actually fun, you NA players are strange for missing out on it xD Winning chances are better with 2 teams than 3...
TLDR:
- avoid gobbiejuice, all else is good.
- Every party (4 players is a party) can have 1 mecha up at the time
- cruise chasers are for attacking players, oppressors are for towers. There is also BJ but avoid that as a newbie
- Check mini map here and there for a little mercenary icon (goblin) either north or south, and prioritise that lane cause when mercenary shows up, he'll work for you if your team beats him
- definitely stand on the tracks when the train sound is popping :). definitely
Rival Wings is a really good mode, it's a shame that all the moving parts make it hard to get into but once you understand the basics it's really fun
Some tips for frontlines-
Astro and Summ are the best for farming kills.
Always be the first one to leave a team fight. Always. You must leave before it is even apparent that you might lose.
Ignore objectives and try to follow the DRK in whichever premade is on your team
Hey first again! Also been working on getting all PVP achievents for over 3 years now(maybe even more, it was before the garo event was locked out back in shb), dont want to dissapoint you but it will take...A LOT! It did make my favourite mode PvP in game, and its fun with a 2nd monitor to watch youtube or stuff...im doing it now! I can only say one thing. you are lucky, i got some of those achievements back in the feast days...CC is easy compared to whats now! Anyway good luck on what is basically gonna become your next 2 or 3 years and there is no way around it!
Here is a tip to keep your sanity...only play until you win a FL match or maximum of 3 a day and maximum of 5 CC matches a day or until you win a match, then go something else. trust me after doing this for over 3 years im starting to question my sanity...dont force it too much, FL you can cheese it with ppl that know hoiw to do it but all will hate you, you can make RW pop up since you are a streamer, but on CC good luck!
Ps: comment took to.long to write so not first again ...sadge face
RW is actually really fun once you get the hang of it (imo)
Also, love these achievement hunting vids!
Absolutely awesome video! Love pvp! Sitting on 51 malmstones right now with everything purchased. I know it’s little compared to some but I just love it.
Frontline is a mess. What it needs is a universal buff that adds CC immunity after being CC'd. At least a second or two, as getting stunlocked is really the major issue. As for Battle High, snowball mechanics are just not good, fun, or actually competitive. A team gets a major lead on Battle High and it's like trying to climb Everest in yoru smallclothes to catch up.
I had a productive week. I did a little bit of Relics, a bit of leves, and I got all the achievements linked to the Coils of Bahamut except the ultimate raid. I got about 100 points this week. And I almost have the final desynthesize achievement. I just need to break down about 500 more items.
I'm almost done with the "get 100 wins in Seal Rock" achievement on my main (already got it on an alt) and I plan on never doing Frontlines again after that, so I was looking forward to seeing how you would begin tackling *all* of the PvP achievements. Good luck, you'll need it!
100 wins in Seal Rock does give a pretty awesome outfit.
@@mentalkitty789 yup, exactly why i went to all the trouble of grinding it *twice.* it's a REALLY nice coat.
There's a two player combo where I play that have the strats for winning frontlines down to a T. One is obviously DRK and does the pull them in and invuln thing, the other handles communications and map markers and does that in such a braindead-friendly way that it is very easy to follow even if that is your first frontlines game ever. They priorize wiping the enemy team at every occasion before even going for objectives and show very elegantly that you don't need a bunch of players being ultra coordinated via discord or addons to do that, the trick is simply proper communication. If you get them and do what they say you win, simple as that.
Quick and dirty Rival Wings from a Rival Wings enjoyer: rush the middle unless it's Gobbiejuice. That fills LBs, it's ultimately less vital than the others. Every Light Party gets 1 robot, kill mammets to get CE that you buy a robot with. Chasers are general use, Obliterators are for attacking towers, Brute Justice is the big boy. Push the towers to get into the base and win. Attack the goblin icon when the timer drops to kick his ass and recruit him. That's it, really.
after 6 years of rival wings i only recently got Wings of Steel for 1000 matches. working on Wings of Fire this season but still 400 to go. Lemme know if you need a teammate.
i absolutely love frontline, and Ive become pretty competant on every job in pvp. While I love more people playing frontline, I dread the mogtome event every time it rolls around. The increase in loud griefers is outstanding, the amount of anti-pvpers who queue in and loudly brag about afking and actively making fun of pvp content just for mogtomes is crazy. These players are noticably phys ranged jobs too. its very bold behaviour and I doubt they would be so loud about it if it was pve content.
Your achievement hunt has inspired me to do the same (mostly because I'm trying to recruit squadron members) and I'm...amazed at your stamina....
@CiderSpider this series has become my goto favorite every week.
More than 600 matches of Frontlines just on my main, never mind the easy leveling/pvp series reward grind I do on alt characters and it's almost exactly a 29% win rate so complete RNG. I only just a few months ago got my 2nd horse mount, Maelstrom and Adder over the course of almost 4 years.
So, y'know, I immediately decided to just not care about winning or losing. It actually makes it more frustrating to see how many people pitch a complete fit in chat about losing.
Complaining to the people who are already not obeying commands will be even less likely to do as you say if you start whining about it. No salt, just vibes.
And remember to keep your System Sounds turned off because people will try to blow out your speakers seeing how quick they can hit their 6 sound macro in chat.
Shout outs to the guy on blacklist on all of my characters who says [the enemy is near] followed by 4 sounds and 0 instruction. Not even, a direction or to retreat or anything, just "[the enemy is near] " about 5 times in quick succession. We can see the enemy, I promise.
Godspeed doing pvp on Crystal, Cider. It's hell out there.
That music on the initial melee battles was perfect. Meleelala was channeling pure Gilgamesh energy.
That one last tiny "tremble!" made me laugh.
Love the content. Hoping you continue to succeed. That being said....... I long for the videos where you suffer in POTD solo. My advice, get a healer to gently watch over you as you learn all 200 floors, then go for the clear! Absolute drag getting back to the 180s and 190s learning the floors.
I personally really like Rival Wings but I also used to play MOBAs--and also tbh I just gather fuel and prevent the enemy from getting fuel and while that isn't the main objective it does help while you learn the rest of the mode!
Rival Wings is really one of those modes where you have to go in and focus one thing at a time as a beginner. Because yeah, that thing is overwhelming at first. Then a couple of games in, you start to be the one to shout to mech up and telling people to ignore middle when it's a bad drop.
We need a Cider Spider version of an old school WoW PVP video! Doesn't have to be long, but it would have been great!
I always look forward to these videos each week
5:53 - Ah, the true Frontlines experience.
you running away without looking behind you gives me so much anxiety lol. i always have my camera looking behind me when running away in FL. gotta always be aware of your surroundings so you dont die. gotta get and keep that battle high so you can get more kills 🤩🤩
I'm only going after every mount but even that is a massive grind. Rival Wings was genuinely really fun to play for the 200 games I played. Frontlines is miserable, you need 300 total wins, likely at a 33% win rate, so roughly 900 matches required, and you have to deal with the most brainrotted ignorant players imaginable
It was fun picking up some wins with Cider on Seal Rock last week. I'm hoping to get the Seal Rock coat before he does.
Rival Wings is basically a tower-defense like PvP combined with rock-scissor-paper when one got chance to ride those huge robot thingie. Can even play passively such as fuel collecting only on lower grounds, since those mainly use for our side of machineries, & don't think it'll be pure passive since one can fights on getting fuels as well. Rival Wings actually much more fun 2 play imo than Frontlines or CC since it's less stressful, atm focusing on either CC or frontlines, & saving rival wings last.
FYI: when you return to starting point, after being killed or using return,
you CAN change jobs.
I'm really sad that Rival Wings isn't more popular. It's way more fun than frontline.
It doesn’t grant the same EXP boost like Frontline does, otherwise it would had been popular
It's the Machinist stealing your kills. LOL (I..uh...heard from a friend. LOL)
The last time I did frontlines, I didn't get a single kill, I died several times, my team was in last place for the whole game..... then I decided to just sit in spawn and we won. So, just like in WoW, TCGs, shooters, fighting games, and almost everything else, me actually trying to win ensures failure for myself and my team. But when I give up and stop trying to actually contribute, we win. Starting to think it's me.
Rival wings is so fun when you actually learn it, I just don't think people don't play it aside from moogle tome events because it has no roulette which sucks because its a lot of fun (until i get snapshotted by cruise chaser and lose 80% of my health) love it way more than frontlines but I main melee lmao
Both frontline and RW can be queued in 4man partys, and I strongly suggest you do. In Frontline a good 4 person stack can push winrate closer to 70-80% instead of the standard 33%.
I really need to start doing this I queue solo and usually sit around 40% to 50% some weeks are better than others. Last week was trash but the week before won about half this week at 44% currently
When 1 Dark Knight and 3 Astros can delete an entire alliance every 30 seconds when snowballing.
@@KaguyaEne astrologians are strong, but triple AST isn't the best comp, it's why the more effective of those groups haven't run triple AST in months.
@anthemoftheworld it's the multi DRG drops that I find most bother some. If too much is happening it's real easy to miss the indicator where they will land
The boxing match winner snowballs--yee, you got RW down exactly, lmao. As a long time Frontline-hater, I've also been achievement hunting FL this past month; I can say, for me, it's been 400% more fun going in with the same friend or three that's also achievement hunting. Unsure what qualifies as a stack or not, but y'all can at least work together to get kills if the other 20 people in your alliance go chasing down butterflies. More fun even if you don't win, but a generally higher win rate, too. :3 If you ever wanna join us off-cam for a few matches, poke me in Limsa. :) - HE
(And tbh, if you haven't tried out WAR in FL, you should. You may not get your kill achieves, but using the chain to mess with anyone, every 10 seconds, can be a nice fun break from the frustration xD)
Holy shit this is the first video I watch of yours. I was NOT expecting that voice on that character xD
Cider Spider's PVP pain is so valid. I understand you. /pay respects
"why can't we just have a straight team deathmatch"
Wait, did they remove the feast?
It got replaced with Crystal conflict
I miss feast :(
I love Rival Wings. Win or lose I generally have a great time. Meanwhile win or lose in front line I hate myself for that chaos.
As someone who greatly dislikes pvp I wish you the best. I would probably lose my mind if I had to work through around 5k hours of it.
PVP achievements are absolutely mind numbing (esp for frontline) without a premade. PVP used to be my favourite side gig in FFXiV until I grew tired of randoms not having a clue how to play (or didn’t care as long as they got their tomes) For casual play it is fine - if you take it serious or want the achievements in a manageable period of time, it’s maddening. Add in the drk spam (more so the fact that everyone complains about it but fails to lookup the easy ways to work around it) and I went from hours of PVP a day to not doing an instance in 2 months now. I am currently doing Eureka zones instead if that says anything. 😂😂 great video as always.
the urge to afk when the team im on is 1k behind on shatter is strong, but i always remember that no one wants initially joins to get absolutely dumped on for 20 minutes, and i should do my best so that everyone feels that we at least tried.
I feel that.. I can’t say I’ve never thrown up my hands and just chilled at the base until the instance was over. There are simply some games that the team seems utterly clueless and there is nothing fun about getting absolutely steamrolled. I’ve gone as far as becoming a caller (raises your chances of a win exponentially if you actually know the map) but then more and more people starting calling who had zero clue and it became more of a chore / drama session then a team effort. As long as there is incentive to do nothing (still get tomes regardless) it will be a sht show. At the very least they should creat a tiered system so those that actually want to compete with others of the same mindset can do so without 90% of the team dragging them down.
The reason you end up with a losing team fighting a losing team is because one of them is trying to cut their losses and swipe 2nd place because they know 1st is impossible at that point (nevermind that 2nd doesn't earn that much more than 3rd, including mogtomes, it's still a race to not be *the* 3rd place total loser). It's dumb, but it's like, 90% of Frontline matches which is why it ended up my least favorite of the PVP modes because there's literally a third-wheel ruining everything, lol.
Unfortunately it's also the only PVP mode with a roulette bonus, so I'm stuck playing it once a day whether I want to or not, whereas the one mode I *do* enjoy, Rival Wings, only ever becomes playable during mogtome events, and even then only for the first few weeks until everyone has what they want and moves on. I'm *kinda* hoping this time will be different because of those MGP cards, where next to PVP stuff, it seems Gold Saucer stuff is also a highly neglected set of achievements/goodies because some people literally only do the cactpot tickets and nothing else. So if they want something like the airship... yeah, that's a whole lotta mogtome farming if they insist on avoiding GATEs and such.
And meanwhile the frontlines tab is the only achivement tab Im close to finishing lmao. Good luck, Cider.
babe wake up new cider just dropped
Rival wings has a lot of intricate stuff and small tasks that get missed so it definitely has a curve, but I think one of the reason it's barely played is because there's no roulette for it.
To explain Rival Wings:
You as a player- Collect fuel/battle high/kill minions, you need to rush middle depending on what their going to give you as an item.
Minions- You guide them to attack crystals/towers as they do FAR more damage to those materials than players.
Cruiser- Is for others machines/players
Oppressor- is for towers/crystals
Brute Justice- All of the above.
Priority goes by the following on what needs to be killed: Brute Justice > Oppressor > Minions > Cruiser > Players
If you have enough for fuel summon a mech otherwise your fuel collectors(usually those that roam in the middle) won't be able to collect more of them.
Salted Earth should have an immune window, where if you get hit with it, the pull part doesn't work again for X seconds. It wouldn't affect crystaline conflict since you can only have one DRK per team anyway, but it would make DRKs in frontline INFINITELY LESS ANNOYING imo.
Ahhh, Frontline. I fucking hate Frontline. I'm bad at it, so I can't kill anyone on any job, and it's always a complete RNG fest if my team's going to win or even focus on the right team. For funsies I compared my achievement progress to Cider's and...I'm bad lol. Across 301 campaigns, I have 50 victories for a 28% win rate, and 175 kills. I barely average 1-2 kills per match. Just a 20 min slog I use to level jobs and cry. Never seen Battle High V in my *life*.
there was a team deathmatch thingy... they took it away for crystaline conflict cause people didnt play it
Why does no one engage? Because trusting your team to charge in after you take the 3 million CC attacks is not something you do.
The worst part about PVP is the people on your team, after that it's the said 3 million CC abilities and free heals.
It also doesn't help that for some god forsaken reason PVP has the battle high mechanic but instead of preventing teams from being steamrolled, it actively encourages steamrolling it by rewarding people who are already doing well, putting the losing teams at an even bigger disadvantage. PVP is a horrible mess with dogwater balancing.
"Out of the frying pan and into the mustard" is going to be my new phrase
oh and the whole everyone is a tank bit in FL. cant 1 v 1 anyone, takes 5 people to kill 1 caster.....they need to undo the armor buffs for melee/tank, reduce aoe dmg (which prompted the armor buff) and cut the heals in half. atleast for FL specifically.
don't do it king. just gas light us that there are no pvp achievements.
Crystal Conflict is definitely my favorite PvP mode by far, it's not even close. It's so simple, fun and focused. You feel like you're making a huge difference with every play, but also it's breezy and quick enough that you don't tend to get overinvested. Usually. As with anything competitive you can still get in a bad streak and start to get angry if you let yourself, good to try and not let that happen.
Rival Wings is my second favorite. It's fun to pilot the mechs, it's fun to beat up the mechs, and it feels like there's always a way to contribute to a win no matter which path you take. Even just picking up fuel helps, so long as someone's actually piloting the mechs and you're not already capped.
Frontlines I can't fucking stand. Just total rando garbage where everyone spams shit, your attacks deal no damage unless you build up battle high (which for someone who like to GET INTO IT like I do, means I have to play in a way I don't like to be effective, and I can't ever stop playing in that way since I'll lose my battle high) and since it's just a big stupid zerg, most people don't actually know what to do, and what you have to do is stupid and boring. It's so unfocused and bad. It's legit one of my least favorite PvP modes in any game ever. The fact that the much-more-focused-and-not-spending-half-the-match-on-a-mount Rival Wings is less played than crappy ass Frontlines just boggles my mind.
All that said, I'm glad there's always people for CC! I can and do play it all day sometimes! By choice! Not even for a reward!
I am so, SO bad at PvP. I gave up just this week, I don't think my reflexes can keep up.
Happy to see the TREMBLES aren't just meant for PvE content!
