I will never forget my biggest failure going for an achievement, even though it was many MANY years ago. I've been playing World of Warcraft since Wrath of the Lich King (so like....late 2000s) and I struggled to get gold. There was, however, an achievement that would give you the fastest flying mount speed and a dragon mount. It is called What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been, and you earn it by doing set achievements for each of the holidays in game. Because it's an MMO, these events cycle through on a real life yearly calendar, so I had been taking part in each event as each holiday came around. That is, until Pilgrim's Bounty, the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm not really good at PVP content, especially in WoW, so even though I was able to get most of the achievements, there were some that required you to sit and eat at a banquet table in each of the opposing capital cities. As a Horde player, my at the time boyfriend (now husband) and I were going through each capital city dressed in no armor, just the pretty clothes for the event, so sometimes, people let us be. But sometimes, we would get massacred. But regardless, we pressed on until the final night of the event. We only had one more table to visit: Darnassus, the capital city INSIDE a giant living tree. We had to run through NPC guards meant to kill us (and they succeeded time and time again) and corpse hopped (die, get as far as you can, rez, die again, etc.) our way to the banquet table. This took hours, because of our lack of armor and skill against these mobs and other players. Finally, we could see the table. One more corpse hop would've gotten us there. Then, the clock ticked to the next day and the event ended. I watched the table disappear, along with all the decorations. And there we stood, in Darnassus, one single step away from getting the final achievement for the mount and flight training. I didn't save up the few thousand gold to just buy the flight training by the next year, either, so one year later, we were able to go to Darnassus a little more easily and get the final achievement. But we had to wait one full year to do it. The achievements have dates on them, and it's one year later than all the other achievements. A constant reminder of what happened.
The Zadnor Lyon duel was one of the most stressful things I ever did in the game. It took me about 10ish attempts to clear it and even just waiting for the duel to start had my nerves going off. When I finally beat him my hands were literally shaking for about a minute.
Oh man, I'm in the video! So funny thing is that I only recently got back into Bozja. I hadn't run it since Shadowbringers, but once I saw your stuff on grinding out the Southern Front achievements, I get the urge to get back in there. I had never won a duel until I came back to it, so it's thanks to you!

Since last week's video, I have affixed my 500th materia (5 points), gathered my 260th unique item as MIN (10 points), gathered my 380th unique item as BTN (10 points), completed the second tier of the Splendorous tool for BTN (10 points), completed the second tier of Splendorous tools for the first time (5 points), completed the final tier of the Splendorous tool for BTN (10 points), completed the final tier of Splendorous tools for the first time (5 points), received my 3000th commendation (0 points!), raided the Shifting Oubliettes of Lyhe Ghiah for the 10th time (10 points), completed the new seasonal event (10 points), completed my 100th, 110th and 120th unique BSM levequests (10 points each) and finally, I have achieved level 80 with all Shadowbringers trusts (20 points). I have obtained 125 achievement points during the week and I currently have 20,310 achievement points ingame, or 19,205 using the Lalachievements scoring system, which brings me to #50 on Adamantoise, up two ranks since last week. Edit: I'm only missing two things in Bozjan Southern Front: Castrum Lacus Litore runs (I'm at 41/50) and the Sartauvoir duel. Zadnor though? As a fairly mid player in regards to doing mechanics accurately and perfectly, I can't even begin to work out how I might possibly complete those duels someday. My Dalriada runs are at a meager 24/50 too. Lots of work ahead for me. Edit 2: To answer the question asked near the end of the video, my greatest failure in achievement hunting is chasing the solo Palace of the Dead completion. I have put literally hundreds of hours into it (most of it on an older character though), but I lack the knowledge and consistency to make it very far. I always screw up in some embarrassing manner. I've only gotten past floor 150 three times, and never even reached the floor 160 boss. These acheivements just aren't in my skill range.
These videos are such a treat for me every week! I get to see the grind that I'll personally never have the patience for, and enjoy the most difficult content that my poor hands just can't keep up with.
my theatre teacher drilled into us how important improv is. we practised occasionally whilst prepping to put on plays; i admit improv is not at all my strong suit, it is not something i even enjoy, but it is something i did had to learn whilst learning how to perform. cue to me on stage with my co-actor, doing a scene where we're both meant to break out into song.. and the music didn't start. it took like 3 minutes for it to start. i didn't *freeze* per say, but i think the audience could tell how confused i was at the technical failure; my co-actor was an antagonist, so i couldn't necessarily banter with him, but it took us like 15 seconds to realise that the music wasn't going to immediately start. it was very awkward but we managed to at least crack a joke before the music finally started 😅 congrats on the 50k CS! :) hopefully next week's video has more accomplishments you can be proud of!
Back when you only needed 1000 comms to get mentor, I wanted my final duty before qualifying to be a min ilvl clear of Ifrit Ex with my guildies. We ate it so hard, I was the only one who remembered the mechanics. We settled on doing Titan Ex unsynced at the end of the night. It was a fun night, and I still use the Titan earring I got that night in most of my glams. to top it off tho, this was the week that they raised it to 1500 and I just hadn't gotten to reading the patch notes. so no clear and no mentor, haha!
Thanks for posting even these less successful weeks! Not only are your vids still fun, but its important to acknowledge that not every week is gonna be a big success when it comes to long-term projects lome these! Still went up a rank too! Nice!
If you plan on tackling the gold saucer achievements, you should probably start them sooner rather than later. Some of them are lifetime achievements that take a really long time like "win an accumulative 10mil mgp from gold saucer attractions" Or the achievement for getting a rank 285 racing chocobo. That one took me several months of hard grinding and breeding. The rng is brutal. The achievement for completing all 15 of the chocobo challenge races took me several more months, because that last course was absolutely brutal and I kept failing it over and over and over again. I would breed more choco's only to fail to get the stats I needed and then I'd have to release it and start all over again before I could even qualify to try the course again. It was rough. The acheivements for getting all the TT cards and the TT mount achievement were also insane. Some of the npc's had really low drop rates and they're difficult to even beat consistently. Getting the TT mount forced me to reluctantly lvl Blu since there's certain TT cards you can't buy unless you finish certain Blu job quests. Not to mention some of the TT cards that have to drop from doing content have insanely low drop rates. I had to do Mothercrystal almost 40 times before getting Hydaelyn's card. I was going insane because it was the last card I needed to have a full set and my completionist brain was seething at the empty spot in my card list. Lol. Then they went and released more cards even more cards locked behind Blu, and I have yet to get those. Lol. I really really really don't wanna lvl Blu. Ugh.
tbh, I generally prefer unedited gameplay over edited videos. That way I can have them running in the background while focusing on something else, with some interesting moments here and there that consistently drip-feed me little nuggets of entertainment. For me edited gameplay on the other hand typically falls right into that limbo between "too long to sit and watch without doing anything else" and "too much happening to focus on other things at the same time", as well as "wait, what happened to get from before the cut to after the cut?" Aside from summary/highlight-type videos like this it's very rare to find edited videos that hit the sweet spot between "not enough happening" and "coherent enough to follow from A to B". Much less of a balancing act for unedited "background" content - plus you get to know the person better imo.
Idk, I don't know if I've ever really had anything "in the bag" and then later failed. But the worst showing I've ever had trying for an achievement in ff14 was the duels myself. I was so bad at them that I ended up grinding out all my notes manually. I got every note without clearing a single duel lol
Watching you do these makes me realise just how much I need to learn so I can do more achievements. For now I shall live vicariously through your success and less success of pew pew!

Ever since finding your content i am starting to try out tank. I've wanted to before but i've always had tankxiety because no matter what i do it was NEVER good enough for anyone [be it in rl or online.] It was your Delibrum Regine video of being drunk and saying "i'm going to do my best but if i fuck up, oh well. Its their problem because they didnt queue tank, i did so they got the tank they got. If they wanted a better tank they would of queue'd tank but they didnt." That entire 1-2 minute clip i loved to bits. It gave me the courage to just say "fk it. Imma try tank." And the first ine i did? Dark knight. I bought gunbreaker and its ok but i am having fun with dark knight! Im a healer/support main [always have, always will be in games. This is the first time i tanked] so honestly.. Thank you. It may not seem like that it was a big deal but it gave me courage to play a tank class and love it.
Chillin' like a Villian (that is dramatically watching the WoL from a distance during the first 1/2 of their quest line). Let's not pretend that this isn't a thing that keeps on happening.
My biggest failure was not sticking it through to get an ARR relic weapon on my first character in FF14, some two years ago when I started playing. I've gotten my fem highlander to the "to be continued" point and done several grinds in Eureka and Bozja... but my patience has never been as tempted - and I was going for Excalibur and Aegis because Gladiator/Paladin was my first job so it holds sentimental value (doesn't help that its the longest grind even among the zodiacs because you three extra book tasks for the shield alongside the nine for the sword). I did however recently get the black mage zodiac weapon on my EU account which is really recent and fresh (only now getting into stormblood). So I can attest to CiderSpiders words: its never too late to try again and see what happens, though my task is far more trivial compared to his and is really just a factor of me not having the patience for something.
8:50 the silver coins can also be spent on gear *inside* of the Southern Front. It's able to be dyed by default so it's decent glamour fodder if you like what it looks like. If you don't however, then yeah turning the silver coins into gold is the only real use for 'em lol.
I got a story. So there's a fish that had a two week cooldown at the time (good ol ruby dragon) and the Last fish I needed before the coveted Big Fish title. Wanted that title Real real bad cause you get a flex framer kit for it. Now Ruby works in that it usually has a long cooldown followed by a few short ones so its... usually, really not That bad; however. A day before it comes up my computers GPU completely went out, wouldn't accept power at all so I decided to throw out the kit and caboodle and get a new computer. It took 2 weeks to ship and by the time I started playing 14 again, wouldn't you know it, a 12 day cooldown on the fish. Had already spent months going for this one, and additionally also never bothered to save my hotbar settings from my old comp, so the compounded frustration got intense.
All I can say is that I'm here because you're a cool dude and I like your sense of humor man. Haven't played FF14 in many many years, but you make it enjoyable to watch
I didn't know the Flare Star trick was a thing when I first did it, because I'd done all the Lost Action research and math for it by myself! A 2 minute youtube search would have saved me so much tooltip reading and theorycrafting.
It's honestly pretty impressive it took this many episodes before we hit a failure. Even then, you still did get an achievement so it wasn't a total wash.

Discovered after almost 2500 comms that the armored pegasus mount comes from mentor, not comms. So I am incredibly close to getting a stupid chicken I'll never ride and over 1800 away from the one I actually wanted.

I don't think your week was a failure, I think it was a partial success. Even just on the fact that you got some pulls in on the duels is a success. Success isn't so much a destination, pass/fail, but more about direction, progress towards your goal. I think this is one of the most arduous tasks in gaming so good luck!
Goddammit. I came here thinking it was early Saturday morning, ready to watch my weekly Cider Spider video. . . And it's actually early Friday and the video hasn't been posted yet. -sighs- No bedtime video for me.
Hmmm... Well, one major fail I had when I first started playing FF14 was I did a few of the starting quests and I couldn't finish it for some reason, I had to find out that I had to pick my award to finish the quest... Another was I was taking some screenshots of my character on the top of the Tower at Corthas, when I finished I moved the wrong way and fell to my death dropping to 1 hp, and as I was exiting the area a FATE spawned in I was about lv 20 - 30 and the Fate was about level 40 Needless to say my broken corpse got sent back to Uldah to respawn
The duals are definitely the most frustrating part of Bozja. I had to finally set that content aside and move on with my life because I am not a no-lifer and can't spend multiple lockouts in there even on a Saturday trying to chase a single achievement (for example, on this Saturday, in 20 minutes I have to head out to take my disabled sister shopping. Such are the cards life deals one sometimes.) So I have a lot of respect and admiration for those who did manage to git gud enough to knock them out when the content was valid, and even more so for folks like you who are hammering at them years after the fact. Not a failure, but the titan bgm reminded me of the recent mount farm I had to bow out of. First savage raid, and hoo boy did everything blur after a while, so no mount for me. That said, this video has encouraged me to give the savage grind another go in the future. You're not gonna be a master right out the gate, after all. I'll be rooting for you in the coming duels, you got this!
I think the "moment of failure" story for me would be my first attempt doing at-level extremes. It's not even a funny story sadly, I just was terrible at Barbariccia, lol. It didn't help that my wifi was on the fritz at the time, so in my last run I frequently died to lag, causing the party to disband. I haven't tried another EX on release since, and still haven't cleared Barb. Maybe one day I'll try again. Honestly though, even if not much progress was technically made, this video was still entertaining. It will make the success all the sweeter.
I ddiny want to cheese the fights, but eventually was able to power through after many many attempts... the worst part is everytime you make a mistake, its an hour before another chance of trying it.

Didn't realize you had to pick up the quest "For Want Of A Memory" after getting your first stage relic. I was expecting a blue plus mark quest to pop up, not the one with the recycle symbol. I thought talking to the npc again would just restart me with a different relic. Needless to say, I made it all the way to Zadnor, wondering when my next relic quest would finally come around, all the while gaining no relic materials. I haven't gone back to Bozja since. Really took the wind out of my sails 😂
This series got me to start farming achievements, it's fun optimizing some of the lamer, obscure grinds and engaging with content that I've never touched before. Leves are a slog, but I -think- I have a good spot for battlecraft leves? Central shroud doesn't have any 5-minute or escort leves, it does have a /soothe leve but my BiS scholar melees them once and they're in soothe range most of the time. There's probably a faster area, but it was satisfying finding my own method
Progress is progress. And some of these chonky achievements are gonna be a long haul. My failings was not doing more mentor roulettes before I lost status because I feel behind on doing extreme trials during Shadowbringers.
Ohh, i got a good failure on a goal like 2 weeks ago. I collect mounts, instead of achievements, and have been slacking on the EW EX mounts, since my friends wanted to do them all at once together. That never really happened, so I set aside a day off i had from work to simply go down the list and get them all in one day, since i had clears on them all already. What ended up happening is 9 and half hours of failing on Zodiark EX. 6 different PF groups, 2 different FC groups. and in 9 1/2 hours, i got 5 clears. On Zodiark EX. That one stung the pride in ways i didn't even was possible On the other hand, i have since gotten most of them, plus some of the PVP mounts
The worst failure I've had in FFXIV was probably the first time my FC tried to run any difficult content - Synced Coils. Most of us had never done any Savage or even Extreme content, and we were going in blind. Everything up to Twintania is laughably easy... but then Twintania kicked our asses for like 3 straight hours and we gave up. We figured out a lot of the mechanics but we just could not for the life of us come up with a consistent way to survive her divebombs - someone even tried to look up a strat for it but I think they misunderstood or couldn't explain it well because it didn't help. Eventually we tried again - like a year later - and this time I did research ahead of time into divebombs specifically figuring that if we could live that the fight would be easy. And I was right! The first time we got through with no deaths to divebombs was the time we cleared. This week for me wasn't huge in terms of achievement count, but I did officially break into the top 2000 on my home world! I know that's small potatoes compared to most other active hunters, but considering I was barely in the top *3000* when I first saw this series and started keeping track (plus the fact that I haven't even finished MSQ yet), I'm proud of it. My achivements this week: - 40 unique Armorer leves & 500 HQ crafts as Armorer - Level 90 Blacksmith - 100 resurrections in Bozja - FATE Rank 3 in Tempest and the achievement for Rank 3 in all Shadowbringers zones
I just did the Zadnor Lyon duel recently. On my third attempt, I was in an instance that was somehow both fresh and dead - two people in it. The other dude, an absolute gentleman, helped me duo prep the skirmishes and CE leading to Lyon. I actually cleared that attempt, which I attribute partly to the fact that it's a lot calmer when only one person is watching you lol edit: Also, hot take - I think a lot of people (myself included) underestimate Menenius. None of it looks hard on paper, but there are so many little things you can fuck up. Definitely gave me more trouble than I expected.
For my biggest achievement L(s), it has to be my attempts at climbing POTD, with hours of progress wiped out in stupid mistakes The funniest one was the first, at floor 99 seeing some dragons sitting on top of the portal to F100. Grabbed it, pulled it back to the spawn room, kiting it around when another dragon spawns and aggros. Okay, 2 dragons, annoying but manageable... then another dragon and another dragon spawn! The climb for Mahjong Master also had its moments - Losing a game drops your rating, taking you backwards on progress! 😭
Related to crafting 1000 items of each level range of every expansion (HW, SB,ShB and EW), it does not say anything about having to be HQ crafts, so if you just want to make Quick Synthesis out of terminus putty for ALC, 500 mythrite nuggets and then 500 mythrite rivets for BSM, a thousand lengths of cedar wood for CRP, a thousand archaeornis leathers for LTW or those for the other equivalences... go for it. Your real banes are the "An Eye For Detail" achievements and then the Ishgardian Restoration ones (You know which ones, but is *those ones* ) Here's for your ode of a crafter if you try to chase the Ishgardian Restoration achievements

@24:25 My attempts at PotD Solo were very short lived, once I discovered my ISP can't consistently not give me minor hiccups which wouldn't be an issue in a group... but instantly ejects you from a solo duty as a failure. Mind you, I fully farmed both SHB and EW Trusts to level caps and never had a single hiccup when soloing those... yet every single PotD attempt would boot me in the low 100s. I am not going to deal with fighting trivial ISP hiccups without even being able to ATTEMPT the difficult part of an achievement. I hate the way those are structured, the forced reset to level 1 is just plain unnecessary and adds nothing but grief to the challenge. I can take failure and having to either git gud or call it, but not being punished for my internet not being pristine 100% of the time.
Honestly, I really appreciate the failures almost more than the successes. I always saw these people ace it and I'd be borderline afraid of wasting everyone's time who came to watch. Seeing that it's not that big a deal is comforting and encouraging
Since I've once again reached the current end of this playlist, I just wanted to let you know that I run this playlist in the background as I do my own FF14 grinds ALL the time. It's like I have a friend right there with me, struggling through together. :>
My biggest failure was partially mine and partially not. To level Gunbreaker, I figured I'd run Palace of the Dead and try for Necromancer at the same time. My internet is equal tier to an overcrowded Walmart, so I'd get disconnected randomly every few hours. One such disconnect happened on floor 100 and I reconnected in South Shroud with a knockout. Such is poor cover when the WiFi falls.
Biggest achievement failure has to be multiple times reaching floors 191-200 in solo PotD and failing before the end, though I think the one that felt the worst was doing the same in HoH (91-100) and running out of time because of shit spawns and insufficient pomanders (81-90 really burned me). There's something about being 10 minutes away from losing and knowing, "I can't do four floors in that time. It's over."
I managed to have a pretty productive week! Nothing truly epic comes to mind except for wasting many months' worth of poetics by not knowing what to spend them on, and THEN trying to get relic weapons only to learn that I need thousands and thousands... ugh.
Question of the week: within the context of the game, I don't really have an interesting answer. Not because I haven't failed, but because I haven't really *committed* to anything to the extent that I could fail. I mentioned last week that, loosely, my goal is and has always been just everything, and the nice thing about having an overly broad goal without a deadline is that, outside of just not playing the game, I'm never not making *some* progress towards it. The only time I've really had a goal that had a deadline was when I've done savage raiding, where the goal has simply been "clear the tier before the next tier drops". To that end, my answer would be failing to kill E12S before EW dropped. For context, I didn't catch up with current MSQ until after 5.5, and started raiding only shortly before 5.58 unlocked the raids and added echo. So this wasn't a like 8-month endeavor or anything. My friends and I dipped our toes into PF some time in late June, and had this weird thing where we were in two quasi-statics, running between them four 2-hour days a week, through July and August, before work obligations and scheduling conflicts thinned it to one static, and eventually, mercifully, it dissolved as well, I'd guess in like October. I think the furthest we ever saw was lions, but really we were a Titan prog group. By that point, I was pretty burnt out, both from running with two groups and so doing a lot of duplicate prog, but also because one of the people shared across both groups is someone I just really don't get along with. Anyway, progress report! Lalachievements currently at 15,980: This week wasn't very focused. Leve allowances were building up, so I did another round of tradecraft leves. This time, I picked up With Pestle in Hand III, With Needle in Hand III, and With Gem in Hand III. While gathering materials to prepare for my next run of EW relic tool crafts, I wound up picking up I Collected That III. Someone in my static was an hour late to raid last week, and so we opted to farm E4S unsynced to get everyone the mount, and I picked up Savage Paradise Found III. Working on the EW FSH relic tool, wound up picking up The One That Didn't Get Away III.
For me, my biggest failure in FFXIV is probably Savage. I joined a PF for E8S when that was current content, figured we'd probably get walled at Light Rampant. I wish. We barely got to see Light Rampant as the party kept wiping on the first mechanic. I had always meant to get back into it after a break, but I no longer trust my internet and I don't feel it's right to put a party though "this person could disappear at any given time," so it's on hiatus until I get an ISP that doesn't suck.
Have you attempted to... do the Zadnor duels and Lyon 1 with a more damage oriented job? Ignoring the 5 deaths, you did see Lyon's enrage; I have never seen Lyon's enrage, but I was a Black Mage. No, I didn't cheese with the pre buffing and stuff, but Lost Flare is very strong to do DPS whilst not actually damaging the boss. Do the healers have some mega insane DPS action you can use? I know it's possible to do the duels as a healer, I remember seeing a crazy White Mage do Lyon 2 before.
My biggest fail thus far has been with the solo BLU achievements. I've gotten a couple but I keep doing extraordinarily stupid things when trying to get the 'None More Blue' achievement. Have parked til the diadem grind is over (5 crafters and 350k points on FSH left, and yes I did all the grade 2/3 as well ;w;)
My biggest failure so far was dropping out of a web programing course that only had 2 weeks left. I was so close and everyone around me was so encouraging, but I just could not take it anymore. Despite how much time i put in and how much I applied myself, the staff were really incompetent and near the end of my course they just kept giving us 6+ hour assignments the day before the deadline. One day i got 3 of those and I just couldn't take it anymore. I am now in debt and still recovering, not sure what to do with myself. This was a year ago btw.
Dabog duel was one big failure for me: after doing fate 3 times and finally geting a duel I died on a 2nd mech because I forgot Inner Release negates knockback and I wasn't pushed into a tower. I then tried to use impetus to fix the situation but, fearing it might snapshot me anyway, I tried holmganging with dabog still being targeted: this made me turn and around AND not use holmgang, because war invo suck and you need to be at least max melee to use it if you target somebody, but yeah, fun times
For Gears of War 3 there was a character you could unlock by unlocking all other achievements from the previous games, I was 4 achives away before getting it and my brother hacked on xbox CoD lobbies for max lvl/items and OUR acount got banned.
I'm not 100% sure the Zadnor duels would be tuned for 10 rays, they might just be very tight dps checks since they're "more recent" or they just considered people would have more essences and stuff... Still, good prog and TREMBLE

I will never forget my biggest failure going for an achievement, even though it was many MANY years ago.
I've been playing World of Warcraft since Wrath of the Lich King (so like....late 2000s) and I struggled to get gold. There was, however, an achievement that would give you the fastest flying mount speed and a dragon mount. It is called What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been, and you earn it by doing set achievements for each of the holidays in game. Because it's an MMO, these events cycle through on a real life yearly calendar, so I had been taking part in each event as each holiday came around. That is, until Pilgrim's Bounty, the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm not really good at PVP content, especially in WoW, so even though I was able to get most of the achievements, there were some that required you to sit and eat at a banquet table in each of the opposing capital cities. As a Horde player, my at the time boyfriend (now husband) and I were going through each capital city dressed in no armor, just the pretty clothes for the event, so sometimes, people let us be. But sometimes, we would get massacred. But regardless, we pressed on until the final night of the event. We only had one more table to visit: Darnassus, the capital city INSIDE a giant living tree. We had to run through NPC guards meant to kill us (and they succeeded time and time again) and corpse hopped (die, get as far as you can, rez, die again, etc.) our way to the banquet table. This took hours, because of our lack of armor and skill against these mobs and other players. Finally, we could see the table. One more corpse hop would've gotten us there. Then, the clock ticked to the next day and the event ended. I watched the table disappear, along with all the decorations. And there we stood, in Darnassus, one single step away from getting the final achievement for the mount and flight training. I didn't save up the few thousand gold to just buy the flight training by the next year, either, so one year later, we were able to go to Darnassus a little more easily and get the final achievement. But we had to wait one full year to do it.
The achievements have dates on them, and it's one year later than all the other achievements. A constant reminder of what happened.
The PvP-based stuff for that achievement stonewalled me until I gave up. For me it was the Orphan's Day stuff.
The Zadnor Lyon duel was one of the most stressful things I ever did in the game. It took me about 10ish attempts to clear it and even just waiting for the duel to start had my nerves going off. When I finally beat him my hands were literally shaking for about a minute.

I hadn't run it since Shadowbringers, but once I saw your stuff on grinding out the Southern Front achievements, I get the urge to get back in there. I hit level 50 for the first time this week. Really excited to experience more of FFXIV!
Since last week's video, I have affixed my 500th materia (5 points), gathered my 260th unique item as MIN (10 points), gathered my 380th unique item as BTN (10 points), completed the second tier of the Splendorous tool for BTN (10 points), completed the second tier of Splendorous tools for the first time (5 points), completed the final tier of the Splendorous tool for BTN (10 points), completed the final tier of Splendorous tools for the first time (5 points), received my 3000th commendation (0 points!), raided the Shifting Oubliettes of Lyhe Ghiah for the 10th time (10 points), completed the new seasonal event (10 points), completed my 100th, 110th and 120th unique BSM levequests (10 points each) and finally, I have achieved level 80 with all Shadowbringers trusts (20 points). I have obtained 125 achievement points during the week and I currently have 20,310 achievement points ingame, or 19,205 using the Lalachievements scoring system, which brings me to #50 on Adamantoise, up two ranks since last week. Edit: I'm only missing two things in Bozjan Southern Front: Castrum Lacus Litore runs (I'm at 41/50) and the Sartauvoir duel. Zadnor though? As a fairly mid player in regards to doing mechanics accurately and perfectly, I can't even begin to work out how I might possibly complete those duels someday. My Dalriada runs are at a meager 24/50 too. Lots of work ahead for me.
Edit 2: To answer the question asked near the end of the video, my greatest failure in achievement hunting is chasing the solo Palace of the Dead completion. I have put literally hundreds of hours into it (most of it on an older character though), but I lack the knowledge and consistency to make it very far. I always screw up in some embarrassing manner. I've only gotten past floor 150 three times, and never even reached the floor 160 boss. These acheivements just aren't in my skill range.

These videos are such a treat for me every week! I get to see the grind that I'll personally never have the patience for, and enjoy the most difficult content that my poor hands just can't keep up with.
my theatre teacher drilled into us how important improv is. we practised occasionally whilst prepping to put on plays; i admit improv is not at all my strong suit, it is not something i even enjoy, but it is something i did had to learn whilst learning how to perform. cue to me on stage with my co-actor, doing a scene where we're both meant to break out into song.. and the music didn't start. it took like 3 minutes for it to start. i didn't *freeze* per say, but i think the audience could tell how confused i was at the technical failure; my co-actor was an antagonist, so i couldn't necessarily banter with him, but it took us like 15 seconds to realise that the music wasn't going to immediately start. it was very awkward but we managed to at least crack a joke before the music finally started 😅

Back when you only needed 1000 comms to get mentor, I wanted my final duty before qualifying to be a min ilvl clear of Ifrit Ex with my guildies. We ate it so hard, I was the only one who remembered the mechanics. We settled on doing Titan Ex unsynced at the end of the night. It was a fun night, and I still use the Titan earring I got that night in most of my glams.
to top it off tho, this was the week that they raised it to 1500 and I just hadn't gotten to reading the patch notes. so no clear and no mentor, haha!

If you plan on tackling the gold saucer achievements, you should probably start them sooner rather than later. Some of them are lifetime achievements that take a really long time like "win an accumulative 10mil mgp from gold saucer attractions"
Or the achievement for getting a rank 285 racing chocobo. That one took me several months of hard grinding and breeding. The rng is brutal.
The achievement for completing all 15 of the chocobo challenge races took me several more months, because that last course was absolutely brutal and I kept failing it over and over and over again. I would breed more choco's only to fail to get the stats I needed and then I'd have to release it and start all over again before I could even qualify to try the course again. It was rough.
The acheivements for getting all the TT cards and the TT mount achievement were also insane. Some of the npc's had really low drop rates and they're difficult to even beat consistently.
Getting the TT mount forced me to reluctantly lvl Blu since there's certain TT cards you can't buy unless you finish certain Blu job quests.
Not to mention some of the TT cards that have to drop from doing content have insanely low drop rates. I had to do Mothercrystal almost 40 times before getting Hydaelyn's card. I was going insane because it was the last card I needed to have a full set and my completionist brain was seething at the empty spot in my card list. Lol.
Then they went and released more cards even more cards locked behind Blu, and I have yet to get those. Lol. I really really really don't wanna lvl Blu. Ugh.
tbh, I generally prefer unedited gameplay over edited videos. That way I can have them running in the background while focusing on something else, with some interesting moments here and there that consistently drip-feed me little nuggets of entertainment. For me edited gameplay on the other hand typically falls right into that limbo between "too long to sit and watch without doing anything else" and "too much happening to focus on other things at the same time", as well as "wait, what happened to get from before the cut to after the cut?"
Aside from summary/highlight-type videos like this it's very rare to find edited videos that hit the sweet spot between "not enough happening" and "coherent enough to follow from A to B". Much less of a balancing act for unedited "background" content - plus you get to know the person better imo.
Idk, I don't know if I've ever really had anything "in the bag" and then later failed. But the worst showing I've ever had trying for an achievement in ff14 was the duels myself. I was so bad at them that I ended up grinding out all my notes manually. I got every note without clearing a single duel lol
the rng on those are no joke, grats! i cleared CLL 72 times before the note dropped, and Dal 52 times and never even got the raptor mount

Ever since finding your content i am starting to try out tank. I've wanted to before but i've always had tankxiety because no matter what i do it was NEVER good enough for anyone [be it in rl or online.] It was your Delibrum Regine video of being drunk and saying "i'm going to do my best but if i fuck up, oh well. Its their problem because they didnt queue tank, i did so they got the tank they got. If they wanted a better tank they would of queue'd tank but they didnt."
That entire 1-2 minute clip i loved to bits. It gave me the courage to just say "fk it. Imma try tank." And the first ine i did? Dark knight. I bought gunbreaker and its ok but i am having fun with dark knight! Im a healer/support main [always have, always will be in games. This is the first time i tanked] so honestly..
Thank you. It may not seem like that it was a big deal but it gave me courage to play a tank class and love it.

I mean the other half of the time the WoL is watching the bad thing happen from a safe distance without getting involved, so it balances out.

My biggest failure was not sticking it through to get an ARR relic weapon on my first character in FF14, some two years ago when I started playing. I've gotten my fem highlander to the "to be continued" point and done several grinds in Eureka and Bozja... but my patience has never been as tempted - and I was going for Excalibur and Aegis because Gladiator/Paladin was my first job so it holds sentimental value (doesn't help that its the longest grind even among the zodiacs because you three extra book tasks for the shield alongside the nine for the sword). I did however recently get the black mage zodiac weapon on my EU account which is really recent and fresh (only now getting into stormblood). So I can attest to CiderSpiders words: its never too late to try again and see what happens, though my task is far more trivial compared to his and is really just a factor of me not having the patience for something.
8:50 the silver coins can also be spent on gear *inside* of the Southern Front. It's able to be dyed by default so it's decent glamour fodder if you like what it looks like. If you don't however, then yeah turning the silver coins into gold is the only real use for 'em lol.

I got a story. So there's a fish that had a two week cooldown at the time (good ol ruby dragon) and the Last fish I needed before the coveted Big Fish title. Wanted that title Real real bad cause you get a flex framer kit for it.
Now Ruby works in that it usually has a long cooldown followed by a few short ones so its... usually, really not That bad; however. A day before it comes up my computers GPU completely went out, wouldn't accept power at all so I decided to throw out the kit and caboodle and get a new computer. It took 2 weeks to ship and by the time I started playing 14 again, wouldn't you know it, a 12 day cooldown on the fish. Had already spent months going for this one, and additionally also never bothered to save my hotbar settings from my old comp, so the compounded frustration got intense.
All I can say is that I'm here because you're a cool dude and I like your sense of humor man. Haven't played FF14 in many many years, but you make it enjoyable to watch
I didn't know the Flare Star trick was a thing when I first did it, because I'd done all the Lost Action research and math for it by myself!
A 2 minute youtube search would have saved me so much tooltip reading and theorycrafting.
This has to be my favorite series in the game.. keep up the grind! and make sure you don't lose your sanity while doing it

Discovered after almost 2500 comms that the armored pegasus mount comes from mentor, not comms. So I am incredibly close to getting a stupid chicken I'll never ride and over 1800 away from the one I actually wanted.

I don't think your week was a failure, I think it was a partial success. Even just on the fact that you got some pulls in on the duels is a success. Success isn't so much a destination, pass/fail, but more about direction, progress towards your goal. I think this is one of the most arduous tasks in gaming so good luck!

Well, one major fail I had when I first started playing FF14 was I did a few of the starting quests and I couldn't finish it for some reason, I had to find out that I had to pick my award to finish the quest...
Another was I was taking some screenshots of my character on the top of the Tower at Corthas, when I finished I moved the wrong way and fell to my death dropping to 1 hp, and as I was exiting the area a FATE spawned in I was about lv 20 - 30 and the Fate was about level 40
Needless to say my broken corpse got sent back to Uldah to respawn

The duals are definitely the most frustrating part of Bozja. I had to finally set that content aside and move on with my life because I am not a no-lifer and can't spend multiple lockouts in there even on a Saturday trying to chase a single achievement (for example, on this Saturday, in 20 minutes I have to head out to take my disabled sister shopping. Such are the cards life deals one sometimes.) So I have a lot of respect and admiration for those who did manage to git gud enough to knock them out when the content was valid, and even more so for folks like you who are hammering at them years after the fact. Good luck!

Not a failure, but the titan bgm reminded me of the recent mount farm I had to bow out of. First savage raid, and hoo boy did everything blur after a while, so no mount for me.
That said, this video has encouraged me to give the savage grind another go in the future. You're not gonna be a master right out the gate, after all.

I think the "moment of failure" story for me would be my first attempt doing at-level extremes. It's not even a funny story sadly, I just was terrible at Barbariccia, lol. It didn't help that my wifi was on the fritz at the time, so in my last run I frequently died to lag, causing the party to disband. I haven't tried another EX on release since, and still haven't cleared Barb. Maybe one day I'll try again.
Honestly though, even if not much progress was technically made, this video was still entertaining. It will make the success all the sweeter.
I ddiny want to cheese the fights, but eventually was able to power through after many many attempts... the worst part is everytime you make a mistake, its an hour before another chance of trying it.

Didn't realize you had to pick up the quest "For Want Of A Memory" after getting your first stage relic. I was expecting a blue plus mark quest to pop up, not the one with the recycle symbol. I thought talking to the npc again would just restart me with a different relic. Needless to say, I made it all the way to Zadnor, wondering when my next relic quest would finally come around, all the while gaining no relic materials. I haven't gone back to Bozja since. Really took the wind out of my sails 😂
dont be discouraged about the duel prog, they aint easy and you made it to enrage on at least one of em. you can do it, just get back in there!

It's been a slow week for me as well. I got a couple of weapons' achievements, a gathering based achievement, and a random PvP based achievement.
This series got me to start farming achievements, it's fun optimizing some of the lamer, obscure grinds and engaging with content that I've never touched before. Leves are a slog, but I -think- I have a good spot for battlecraft leves? Central shroud doesn't have any 5-minute or escort leves, it does have a /soothe leve but my BiS scholar melees them once and they're in soothe range most of the time. There's probably a faster area, but it was satisfying finding my own method
Progress is progress. And some of these chonky achievements are gonna be a long haul. My failings was not doing more mentor roulettes before I lost status because I feel behind on doing extreme trials during Shadowbringers.

Ohh, i got a good failure on a goal like 2 weeks ago. I collect mounts, instead of achievements, and have been slacking on the EW EX mounts, since my friends wanted to do them all at once together. That never really happened, so I set aside a day off i had from work to simply go down the list and get them all in one day, since i had clears on them all already.
What ended up happening is 9 and half hours of failing on Zodiark EX. 6 different PF groups, 2 different FC groups. and in 9 1/2 hours, i got 5 clears. On Zodiark EX.
That one stung the pride in ways i didn't even was possible
On the other hand, i have since gotten most of them, plus some of the PVP mounts

The worst failure I've had in FFXIV was probably the first time my FC tried to run any difficult content - Synced Coils. Most of us had never done any Savage or even Extreme content, and we were going in blind. Everything up to Twintania is laughably easy... but then Twintania kicked our asses for like 3 straight hours and we gave up. We figured out a lot of the mechanics but we just could not for the life of us come up with a consistent way to survive her divebombs - someone even tried to look up a strat for it but I think they misunderstood or couldn't explain it well because it didn't help. Eventually we tried again - like a year later - and this time I did research ahead of time into divebombs specifically figuring that if we could live that the fight would be easy. And I was right! The first time we got through with no deaths to divebombs was the time we cleared.
This week for me wasn't huge in terms of achievement count, but I did officially break into the top 2000 on my home world! I know that's small potatoes compared to most other active hunters, but considering I was barely in the top *3000* when I first saw this series and started keeping track (plus the fact that I haven't even finished MSQ yet), I'm proud of it. My achivements this week:
- 40 unique Armorer leves & 500 HQ crafts as Armorer
- Level 90 Blacksmith
- 100 resurrections in Bozja
- FATE Rank 3 in Tempest and the achievement for Rank 3 in all Shadowbringers zones
Things I've botched? Probably every Savage I've done :S.

I just did the Zadnor Lyon duel recently. On my third attempt, I was in an instance that was somehow both fresh and dead - two people in it. The other dude, an absolute gentleman, helped me duo prep the skirmishes and CE leading to Lyon. I actually cleared that attempt, which I attribute partly to the fact that it's a lot calmer when only one person is watching you lol
edit: Also, hot take - I think a lot of people (myself included) underestimate Menenius. None of it looks hard on paper, but there are so many little things you can fuck up. Definitely gave me more trouble than I expected.
This is, hands down, my favouite FF14 series!

For my biggest achievement L(s), it has to be my attempts at climbing POTD, with hours of progress wiped out in stupid mistakes
The funniest one was the first, at floor 99 seeing some dragons sitting on top of the portal to F100. Grabbed it, pulled it back to the spawn room, kiting it around when another dragon spawns and aggros. Okay, 2 dragons, annoying but manageable... then another dragon and another dragon spawn!
The climb for Mahjong Master also had its moments - Losing a game drops your rating, taking you backwards on progress! 😭
Related to crafting 1000 items of each level range of every expansion (HW, SB,ShB and EW), it does not say anything about having to be HQ crafts, so if you just want to make Quick Synthesis out of terminus putty for ALC, 500 mythrite nuggets and then 500 mythrite rivets for BSM, a thousand lengths of cedar wood for CRP, a thousand archaeornis leathers for LTW or those for the other equivalences... go for it. Your real banes are the "An Eye For Detail" achievements and then the Ishgardian Restoration ones (You know which ones, but is *those ones* )

His problem there is that he doesn't have gathering-spec retainers, so he has to do all the rock-bonking himself.

@24:25 My attempts at PotD Solo were very short lived, once I discovered my ISP can't consistently not give me minor hiccups which wouldn't be an issue in a group... but instantly ejects you from a solo duty as a failure. Mind you, I fully farmed both SHB and EW Trusts to level caps and never had a single hiccup when soloing those... yet every single PotD attempt would boot me in the low 100s.
I am not going to deal with fighting trivial ISP hiccups without even being able to ATTEMPT the difficult part of an achievement. I hate the way those are structured, the forced reset to level 1 is just plain unnecessary and adds nothing but grief to the challenge. I can take failure and having to either git gud or call it, but not being punished for my internet not being pristine 100% of the time.
Honestly, I really appreciate the failures almost more than the successes. I always saw these people ace it and I'd be borderline afraid of wasting everyone's time who came to watch. Seeing that it's not that big a deal is comforting and encouraging

Since I've once again reached the current end of this playlist, I just wanted to let you know that I run this playlist in the background as I do my own FF14 grinds ALL the time. It's like I have a friend right there with me, struggling through together. :>
My biggest failure was partially mine and partially not. To level Gunbreaker, I figured I'd run Palace of the Dead and try for Necromancer at the same time. My internet is equal tier to an overcrowded Walmart, so I'd get disconnected randomly every few hours. One such disconnect happened on floor 100 and I reconnected in South Shroud with a knockout. Such is poor cover when the WiFi falls.

Biggest achievement failure has to be multiple times reaching floors 191-200 in solo PotD and failing before the end, though I think the one that felt the worst was doing the same in HoH (91-100) and running out of time because of shit spawns and insufficient pomanders (81-90 really burned me). There's something about being 10 minutes away from losing and knowing, "I can't do four floors in that time. It's over."

As for biggest failure... hmm. Nothing truly epic comes to mind except for wasting many months' worth of poetics by not knowing what to spend them on, and THEN trying to get relic weapons only to learn that I need thousands and thousands... ugh.
Question of the week: within the context of the game, I don't really have an interesting answer. Not because I haven't failed, but because I haven't really *committed* to anything to the extent that I could fail. I mentioned last week that, loosely, my goal is and has always been just everything, and the nice thing about having an overly broad goal without a deadline is that, outside of just not playing the game, I'm never not making *some* progress towards it. The only time I've really had a goal that had a deadline was when I've done savage raiding, where the goal has simply been "clear the tier before the next tier drops".
To that end, my answer would be failing to kill E12S before EW dropped. For context, I didn't catch up with current MSQ until after 5.5, and started raiding only shortly before 5.58 unlocked the raids and added echo. So this wasn't a like 8-month endeavor or anything. My friends and I dipped our toes into PF some time in late June, and had this weird thing where we were in two quasi-statics, running between them four 2-hour days a week, through July and August, before work obligations and scheduling conflicts thinned it to one static, and eventually, mercifully, it dissolved as well, I'd guess in like October. I think the furthest we ever saw was lions, but really we were a Titan prog group. By that point, I was pretty burnt out, both from running with two groups and so doing a lot of duplicate prog, but also because one of the people shared across both groups is someone I just really don't get along with.
Anyway, progress report! Lalachievements currently at 15,980:
This week wasn't very focused. Leve allowances were building up, so I did another round of tradecraft leves. This time, I picked up With Pestle in Hand III, With Needle in Hand III, and With Gem in Hand III. While gathering materials to prepare for my next run of EW relic tool crafts, I wound up picking up I Collected That III. Someone in my static was an hour late to raid last week, and so we opted to farm E4S unsynced to get everyone the mount, and I picked up Savage Paradise Found III. Working on the EW FSH relic tool, wound up picking up The One That Didn't Get Away III.
Mine is fishing up all the ARR legendary fish and discarding them and then realising that I needed those fishes for the Feast of Famine quest.
For me, my biggest failure in FFXIV is probably Savage. I joined a PF for E8S when that was current content, figured we'd probably get walled at Light Rampant. I wish. We barely got to see Light Rampant as the party kept wiping on the first mechanic.
I had always meant to get back into it after a break, but I no longer trust my internet and I don't feel it's right to put a party though "this person could disappear at any given time," so it's on hiatus until I get an ISP that doesn't suck.
And of course we gotta deal with Zlatan. Dude looks like he goes around saying the Bozja duels are hard.

Have you attempted to... do the Zadnor duels and Lyon 1 with a more damage oriented job? Ignoring the 5 deaths, you did see Lyon's enrage; I have never seen Lyon's enrage, but I was a Black Mage. No, I didn't cheese with the pre buffing and stuff, but Lost Flare is very strong to do DPS whilst not actually damaging the boss.
Do the healers have some mega insane DPS action you can use? I know it's possible to do the duels as a healer, I remember seeing a crazy White Mage do Lyon 2 before.
My biggest fail thus far has been with the solo BLU achievements. I've gotten a couple but I keep doing extraordinarily stupid things when trying to get the 'None More Blue' achievement.

My biggest failure so far was dropping out of a web programing course that only had 2 weeks left.
I was so close and everyone around me was so encouraging, but I just could not take it anymore. Despite how much time i put in and how much I applied myself, the staff were really incompetent and near the end of my course they just kept giving us 6+ hour assignments the day before the deadline. One day i got 3 of those and I just couldn't take it anymore.
I am now in debt and still recovering, not sure what to do with myself. This was a year ago btw.
Dabog duel was one big failure for me: after doing fate 3 times and finally geting a duel I died on a 2nd mech because I forgot Inner Release negates knockback and I wasn't pushed into a tower. I then tried to use impetus to fix the situation but, fearing it might snapshot me anyway, I tried holmganging with dabog still being targeted: this made me turn and around AND not use holmgang, because war invo suck and you need to be at least max melee to use it if you target somebody, but yeah, fun times
For Gears of War 3 there was a character you could unlock by unlocking all other achievements from the previous games, I was 4 achives away before getting it and my brother hacked on xbox CoD lobbies for max lvl/items and OUR acount got banned.
I'm not 100% sure the Zadnor duels would be tuned for 10 rays, they might just be very tight dps checks since they're "more recent" or they just considered people would have more essences and stuff... Still, good prog and TREMBLE
