Thank you Cider for teaching me the filter completed option in the crafting log, I've been doing all the crafts and kept worrying I'd miss an unticked craft amongst the others
I have found that having a set goal in sight does wonders for my gaming sessions and my progress with said sessions. I dabble in achievements, but mainly I hunt mounts and minions. And during the period when I was chasing the Blackjack I was super set on making sure I did as much Gold Saucer things as there were to do. I would do Fashion Report every week. Minicacpot every day. Jumbo cacpot every week. Triple Triad Tournaments that up to that point I didn't even know existed every other week. I even did Verminion. Then once I got the 3m MGP for the Blackjack I just stopped, and this despite still needing 3 more mounts from there.I had gotten my perceived goal, and so while there are still things I need to get I don't feel the pressure to get them anymore. Having a focus like a task list is sometimes needed to get the drive to actually chase those things you want to but have no need to get immediately.
Burnout is insane... I'm going through a "play other games" moment right now and I love how I can still watch your videos and this series without thinking "Maybe I should get back on" because they're just that good.
Oof, I feel you on the burnout. I feel like that's somewhat unavoidable for anything, no matter how much you inherently love it, but it's great to hear that planning out the next achievements helped :) Also didn't realize you were full time streaming now! I’m new to the game and I just found and subbed to your channel last week. Your approach and love for the game and the grind is an inspiration. I was worried because of the title but now I’m excited to see what you’re up to next. Thanks for the great content!
Welcome to the game, new friend! Some of us (especially those on a *Lot* of time many days running) can feel the need for a break, but that's ok. Even the Director/Producer Yoshi P has said it's good to take breaks when you need them, and come back when you're excited again. That being said, I'm disabled, and play a frankly excessive number of hours daily, and have for years, so a little break here or there is really nothing against this game, it's more me giving my brain new stimuli. As for what *you* have in store for you, you've got a great story, phenominial community, tons of fun side activities you can get engaged in and totally lose track of time, if you don't have a local clock on your screen lol. The only MMO i ever regularly played was Star Trek Online, starting from it's season 3 (just out of Beta) up to they released their "play as Dominion characters" update. Honestly my burnout was pretty severe, I felt I had reached a point where there was simply nothing left to do. I had multiple max level characters from each faction, maxxed out research trees on multiple of those, owned a vast fleet with each having claimed every free ship from every special event up till then. I've never played FFXIV, but it certainly seems to get far more content updates than STO does.
Feeling the Burnout thing a lot, mostly because since dawntrail my leveling of my other jobs got bottlenecked by long queues when it comes to roulettes, but also the expert roul grind has been wearing at me. Been there, done that. For me it was in the Minecraft modding project I work with. Over last year work in my team had gotten to the point where we'd crunch on every single thing we made, since everything was expected to be done "right now". Main thing that kept me in was the sunk cost fallacy at that point - I've been there for the best part of a decade, so I can't just leave, right? Luckily putting the foot down in front of the project leads worked and we got ourselves bigger planning windows and more consistent tasks, which allowed us to have fun with it again.
holy crap, to know im only a couple of days ahead of spider in playtime and ive burned out more times than i can count is astounding im surprised and impressed it took you this long to need a freshen up!
"Let's overspend on something I could have bought from the shop" This is why I sell certain items you can buy in the shop. People with gil to burn will buy them. They don't make a high amount of gil individually but if I don't have anything else for my retainers to sell, it's at least something to fill the slots and make something rather than nothing.
I'm in a "playing other games" moment right now. I love XIV. it consumes my life when I'm playing it. I also love achievements. Luckily, I am just a player paying a sub, not relying on it for my income. And honestly, that exact sort of thing is what keeps me from trying ot make any of my hobbies into income/business. I made a (very lackluster) attempt at setting up an etsy shop to sell my crochet. and that went downhill fast because i realized that I much prefer being able to walk away and put it down when I lose interest. and the pressure of performing on a schedule, to other people's expectations, and becoming a small business owner with all the legal/financial entanglements? Turning my free time fun hobby into a job? turning all my free time into work? Nah. I walked away from that real quick. Sucked all the joy out of it. But I'm so glad there are people out there who find thigns like that fulfilling and push through the burnout and show up regardless. I am thankful for content creators like you, and so many others. Because even when I'm not playing XIV, I'm still in the loop, still watching content, still loving the game. and it lets me still enjoy the game, in a different way, while taking a break for myself. glad you found a way that will hopefully kick your burnout. Best of luck going forward. I always look forward to your content. :D
I've encountered some burnout on different types of content, and my solution was basically what you're doing. I moved to a different part of the game and worked on that for a bit. Tired of Bozja/Eureka? I did some blue mage and got the Morbol mount. Tired of blue mage? I did mentor roulette, and then extremes when I was tired of that. Now I'm on the firmament here and there while watching your stream and I've come back around to really wanting to do Blue Mage content!
Take it at your own pace Cider. Relax and keep having fun. I've been rather chill on my own achievement grind. Still working on maxing my combat classes. I am now 31 total levels from being completely maxed. I did get a pleasant surprise in the form of "An Extract Science V", extract 5000 materia from spiritbound items. That is the hardest extraction achievement, so I was very happy. The only Materia Achievements I have left are for affixing materia. I need to do it 6500 more times to get them both. It will be easy, but time consuming; I can just affix and remove a low rank materia from low level armor again and again.
You should combo crafting with desynthesis, craft it and then break it apart. You can work on 2 achievements at once while sparing your inventory and get some of the materials back for other crafts which will save you gil 😊
hahhah! unique recipe achievements is coincidentally what I'd just started working on last week on my own achievment grind (which you inspired) God the housing materials supplier is a GODSEND for all those low level recipes
There are plenty of people who will watch you no matter what you play. Content creators aren't defined by people that watch them for what they do. They're defined by those who watch them for who they are.
Speaking as someone who is definitely burnt out with ff at the moment, the chill vibe for this weeks video was perfect. And I think you can definitely see you slowly go from disinterested in the game to slowly regaining that achievement dopamine hit as you find what works for making it fun again. Definitely going to go and make a list today to get back on that grind 🦾
With last weeks video I was hoping that Mentor Roulette would come back on Mondays, but if you're feeling burned out making these weekly achievement grind videos alongside your streams, I think we'd all understand if you wanted to postpone bringing that back to give yourself more free time not doing the roulette or the editing required for the video. I'm glad that you found a good way around the burnout issue though. I'm also lazily going through all of the unique recipes right now, but how I'm doing that is leveling up jobs I haven't used yet and crafting all the gear for them. Right now I'm working on Gunbreaker, but it looks like I already crafted most fending gear since I've been using all three other tanking jobs since Heavensward.
I think the material supplier you can get for a house or apartment has most of the items from all the low-level guild vendors. Maybe a few more things, too.
@Cider Spider my best recommendation for dealing with burnout without leaving the game would be to make new friends to run your chosen content with. new people can really refresh things imo.
Hey there! Thank you so much for all your hard work and your awesome videos! ❤️ You’re very fun to watch and I love your voice! But hey, burnout is no joke (obvious I know) so please take good care of yourself. ☺️
Sorry to hear you've hit a bit of a funk, dude. I've always found your videos to be very entertaining. Hope the lists and switching things up works for you!
I wasn't playing during ARR, but during the Cloud Server Test I did all the DoH/DoL I Made That III/I Found That III as a challenge and can confirm the base 1-50 recipes were not enough for most, if not all of them - I remember having to dip into furniture because I didn't want to level more than I had to, and I think I even had to do some Master Is for CUL? I think? because I couldn't get a given mat for a furniture piece because it was seasonal or something
The other way to get antelope horns (or any non-purchasable, mob-drop only items) is by sending out a battle class retainer to go and farm some for a venture or two.
You too got the burnout? Got it this week and it's even affecting my capacities to do trials and even weeklies like Custom Deliveries. When it happens it happens and is really unavoidable
My interest in FFXIV has waned in the last month or so. A case of "I've done everything there is to do". (Not literally everything, but I did touch the majority of the content.) I've played for over 10 years. I have over 21,500 achievement points with the Lalachievements system (it's about a thousand higher in the game). With barely any ingame friends, anything left is pure grind. I have ended my automatic subscription a few days ago, and my sub ends in 5 days. Still enjoying seeing content though! Grind on, achievement hunters!
You know what they say about constant inventory management dontcha Bobby? IT'S THE DEVIL! 🔥 But luckily that's where the Chocobo Saddlebags and retainers come in!
I'm currently prepping for all my crafting achievements now while I've only just started Endwalker. I call it my Shopping List, where I figured out every item I need, including crystals, and when I wanna play 14 but not sure what to do or I don't wanna do anything too intensive I work on gathering everything I need, while my retainers passively get me my crystals (some currently up into the 70k range of what I need to get). My friends call me dedicated but crazy lol but what they don't know is I'm gonna craft every item but 1 of each category in secret, pull them into a party under the guise of "hey you got a minute? I wanna show you something" then spam how ever many dozens of achievements into the chat and watch them lose their minds as it keeps going XD Yes I'm also doing the Ishgardian Restoration crafts at the same time to make this even worse/better. Please send help. No really, I gotta farm 8k fleece, send help lol
I’ve come to a point where I’m eager to log in, but it’s mostly to participate in Savage raiding. When I can’t prog the next turn, I go back and help any groups in PF that don’t mind 0-1 chests. It’s endlessly enjoyable helping people learn fights.
Burnout is completely understandable. The game is kind of dead right now. The real expansion content isn't until the patches arrive and the first isn't until probably the second week of November. I've got over 8300 hours in the game and I generally just log in to check my ventures and maybe farm a couple of vouchers to sell. Next week I'm diving into FF16 on PC and hopefully that will hold me for a while. Have you done the deep dungeons yet?
I got 84 Million and a Large House - I really don't care any more about 20k -- This is the true endgame for all FFXIV players lol. Don't worry about the burnout man - just take your time and do you - we will be round cheering you on!
I saw you buy that Holy Water and I screamed. You can buy that in Idyllshire 😭I guess it takes much more time going there, but there's a Scrap Salvager in there that sells tons of items that are specifically for making the items necessary for finishing your crafting quests in Heavensward. I recommend going there to check out items first, or just see if there's a buy price before picking things up at the market board. OR OF COURSE if you REALLY need to get it done as soon as possible, you do you. This will just be left here for newer players who would like to know that there ARE things you can purchase from NPCs.
@rustyjones7908 That's great. It probably is worth less because of that on your server, because there's no demand. It sells for about 2700 Gil from the NPC, which admittedly is less than what Cider bought it for, but he bought it in bulk of 10, so 10,000 Gil instead of 2700. Hopefully he needed to use all 10 of those, because oof otherwise.
@@JKtheSlacker Once again, I said that while it may not be a thing for the dude with 80 million on his character, that there are *definitely other* players who would benefit to know this stuff, and would definitely be willing to pay 500 extra gil to teleport to a place with no marketboard to buy something for 8000 gil cheaper. It also is funny because he points out how *expensive it issss* boohoo. If he is announcing it out loud, but not mentioning that he knows about the Scrap Salvager, then maybe he *doesn't* know.
I got burnout recently as well. I'm trying to level my alt jobs, but I'm taking a step back and playing an evil playthrough in Baldur's Gate 3. It hurts my heart and the camp is lonely, so I also started a good playthrough at the same time.
I just recently finished crafting every item on all crafters (furnishing excluded). It took about 3 months and a lot of gathering was requried aswell but it was quite fun i'Il have to say. Also, I made a lot of money while doing it. the only annoying thing was I wanted to sell stuff fast cuse you only have so much room on each retainer (I have 4) and crafting that many items, most of which actually was worth selling, really clogs your retainers XD
I'm not looking at the crafting list right now myself, but I think the reason sphene is so cheap on the market board is that it's used for VIT-based accessories, which are basically useless for ARR, since everyone uses STR/DEX/MND/INT.

Can also buy stacks of 1 gil dish and desynth whole stacks. (He also has the fishing achievments left too tho)
Unfortunately I think making your hobby your job can sometimes cause the hobby to be less interesting. Hopefully this passes for you
I'm glad you also understand the magic and power of lists.
O wise spider of the cider, what ia your wisdom?
"A row of ducks is better than unrowed ducks"
Quack
I might be sleep deprived, but row row row your ducks spoke to me.
hahhah! unique recipe achievements is coincidentally what I'd just started working on last week on my own achievment grind (which you inspired) God the housing materials supplier is a GODSEND for all those low level recipes
OMG THERES AN OPTION TO FILTER BY COMPLETED RECIPES?! 13:02
Chill and authentic. Nice video.
There are plenty of people who will watch you no matter what you play. Content creators aren't defined by people that watch them for what they do. They're defined by those who watch them for who they are.
SPHEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Earth wind and fire joke got me XD
Speaking as someone who is definitely burnt out with ff at the moment, the chill vibe for this weeks video was perfect. And I think you can definitely see you slowly go from disinterested in the game to slowly regaining that achievement dopamine hit as you find what works for making it fun again. Definitely going to go and make a list today to get back on that grind 🦾
I listen to these in the background so I'm fine with it being a chill video lol
I was super burnt out until I found your channel. Hope your burnout isn't the year of burnout I had. I'm closing in on top 100 on Jenova though! :D
Honestly I enjoy the crafting weeks. Nice low key video, and gives you a chance to crack some silly jokes like the "I hate birds" one. Nice.
That wind sprite said 'you are my nemesis'
Patiently waiting for Blue Mage content.
Spheeeeeeeeeeeene
*deep breath*. SPHEEEEEEENE!
12:13 Cider sounding like the boy from Flintstones as an adult.
When you burn out, that's just your unclaimed achievements trying to hold you down! Don't fall for it, FORGE AHEAD!
Ive been doing this for 11 years man, good luck. Jumbo Cactpot is a big wall.
The other way to get antelope horns (or any non-purchasable, mob-drop only items) is by sending out a battle class retainer to go and farm some for a venture or two.
Thank you for making this, I like listening to your thoughts and progress, done at your own pace. Glad your doing it in your own style!
A lot of Sphene!! crafts? Danburite there are!
Keep up the good fight, soldier!
16:38: "LISTEN TO MEEEEEE"
I'm feeling that, I pushed all the combat jobs to 100 last week.
You know what they say about constant inventory management dontcha Bobby? IT'S THE DEVIL! 🔥 But luckily that's where the Chocobo Saddlebags and retainers come in!
thank you for making me laugh today watching this!
I wanna show you something" then spam how ever many dozens of achievements into the chat and watch them lose their minds as it keeps going XD
Yes I'm also doing the Ishgardian Restoration crafts at the same time to make this even worse/better.
14:00 This would make a great version of the pokemon song, but its Cider crafting goldsmith stuff
I used to be like this in most games I loved but after 6 years of doing these insane grinds in wow.....I just cant anymore
Really? I know I get it sometime when desynthing and on my server it goes for like 80 gold at most on my server
The main problem with Idyllshire is the lack of a marketboard.
SPHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENE!!! lmao
You could totally send your retainers out for antelope horns!
I have important info for the "do x unique recipes" achievement: for alchemist, all of the flower accessories count
Cider is becoming an artist
I just recently finished crafting every item on all crafters (furnishing excluded). It took about 3 months and a lot of gathering was requried aswell but it was quite fun i'Il have to say. Also, I made a lot of money while doing it. the only annoying thing was I wanted to sell stuff fast cuse you only have so much room on each retainer (I have 4) and crafting that many items, most of which actually was worth selling, really clogs your retainers XD
"Fire rocks with me" underrated joke
"You know how much I hate birds." -looks to bird- Oh. Oh no.
I'm not looking at the crafting list right now myself, but I think the reason sphene is so cheap on the market board is that it's used for VIT-based accessories, which are basically useless for ARR, since everyone uses STR/DEX/MND/INT.
I send my serfs... I mean retainers... out for such trivial matters as antelope horns. use your serfs... retainers... wisely
Time for part 2 to the Minecraft series
I solved my burnout by playing 2 characters at the same time. Managing 2 different rotations really spices things up.
