  • In this video I explain a quick and easy way to speed up your gas club car golf cart and still retain your factory rpm limiter.
    NOTE: If you bypass the Governor then you do NOT need to use the Zip Tie method! The Zip Tie Method is mainly for people wishing to temporarily speed up their carts. These modifications are not harmful to your engine at all , unless you ride the RPM limiter for extended periods of time. You will feel it turn the cart on and off repeatedly. Once you feel that, you have found the limit and can stay just below it with the throttle.

    The ziptie method worked perfectly for my 2023 Club Car Onward 4-seater non-lifted. I had to remove a small, plastic access panel under the rear seats by removing two push-in clips. The spring was easy to reach once the plastic panel was removed.

    Thanks for this video!! I just added this little slick method to my onward 6 seater lifted and increased the speed up to 25mph. Take off is very noticeable and the speed for sure. I didnt mess with the gov so I dont jack up the warranty. Im pleased with the results so far...lets see in 2 weeks if I get bored at the 25mph. lol thanks again!! Hey good video work. Like the slow detail explaining.
    I own 1994 CC DS gas.
    Recently replaced the starter generator and voltage regulator (mechanic suggested I replace the voltage regulator since I burned out two starters in two years)
    After all that is runs again. BUT, my throttle only goes full throttle or nothing.
    Whether I depress the foot pedal 1/4 or all 4” it accelerates the same.
    Scratching my head here! LOL
    I want to run stock.
    Suggestions ?

    I have done the zip tie and it does work, has sped my 2001 DS up a bit. Have recently ran into some issues with cart spitting and sputtering and eventually shutting down for a bit and then it will go again, sometimes for days. I use the choke as well when that happens at it usually helps. Im thinking its possibly dirty carberator, gonna check it out, but since weve never had this issue before the zip tie, could that have anything to do with it ? Fuel filters are changed annually. What do you think ? enjoy your video

    • @ON20LBS
      @ON20LBS  2 роки тому

      I would look into cleaning the carb. It only takes a small bit of dirt to cause an issue. It’s not likely the zip tie caused an issue as long as the rpm limiter has not been disconnected. If the cart runs fine when it’s cold but then acts up after about a mile or so I would check the coil. They act up when they get hot if it’s starting to fail. Hopefully that helps!

    I have adjuster the gov, but the engine cuts off then back on. I have installed a tach. Looks to hit about 3700-3900 when it shuts down then back on. Should I turn it down so it it doesn’t keep shutting down and back on? Also I used the zip tie method before but wasn’t getting 25mph. During the summer months it seemed to get extremely hot. Would it benefit to make an vent under cart to pull air to cool it off?

    • @ON20LBS
      @ON20LBS  3 роки тому

      You don’t have to turn it down, but just use your foot to back off the throttle to keep it off the rev limiter. And don’t worry about the heat, it does get very hot but there is a fan on the motor to keep it cool. I’m in south MS and run mine really hard with no issues.

    I did the zip tie mod and tightened the throttle cable to get the slack out of it. I can hit 31 mph now. Before it was 16 mph. However, I think by having done these two mods, it is impossible to do a smooth take off. Most noticeable when trying to reverse the cart out of the garage. I am wondering if I was to do your drill mod, would I just undo the zip tie mod and have pretty much the same speed, only it might take off smoother? And thanks for putting up this video!!

    • @ON20LBS
      @ON20LBS  4 роки тому +3

      Yes if you drill out the rear arm then you’ll have no need for the zip tie. It will give you better throttle control at low speed. Also, the throttle butterfly does not move very far from closed to open. So, you should be able to let some slack out of your cable.

      On a lifted 19 onward you should se close to 30mph before the limiter will kick in. Non lifted is about 24mph or so. The Yamahas actually have a smaller engine but they have a taller gear ratio to get a few more mph out of them. But yes the next step is the gears. Is your cart lifted?

    • @ON20LBS

      I would recommend a HD rear clutch spring from cartpartsplus.com and gboost severe duty belt. It will let the engine back shift raising the rpms for climbing hills. Also be sure to check that your getting enough throttle, might want to tighten the zip tie just a touch. If it’s tight enough that you hit the rpm limiter on flat ground then I’d do the spring and belt upgrade.

      Hey, yea .. first Make sure the fuel pump is working. When you first turn the key you should be able to hear it turn on and prime for a few seconds. Next check the coil wire that’s coming out of the back of the block. I think it’s yellow. It should be putting out 5volts when you hit the gas. It’s what tells the computer to fire the injector. The rpm limiter on yours is inside the ECU (computer).. so there is no bypassing it.

      Check the throttle stop adjustment(it’s on top of the rear axle on the opposite end of the arm where your putting the zip tie) the other option would be taking up the floor mat and adjust some of the slack out of the throttle. Sounds like the throttle is getting pulled, but not completely.
