Thank you very much for this. I had heard about removing the black wire from the limit switch, but not the white wire from the gear switch. Did this today, and discovered a missing throttle return spring. Cobbed something together until I can get the proper spring. Wow! It idles, I have throttle control! I was seriously considering swapping out to a Predator 420, would would have involved a jack shaft due this engines clockwise rotation. You saved me a ton of work!

You could do that you would just have to put a momentary switch on the dash like a push button directly to the starter and just keep the vehicle in neutral

the yellow cam on the gearshift that trips the switches can be pulled out and rotated to make the engine run in neutral. this is the maintenance mode so you can adjust the idle
I had my 2005 Club Car DS set to run anytime it was in gear just by turning the key. Mine will stop in neutral, this is OK, it dosen't grind the gears between forward and reverse. I live in The Villages, Florida, a golf car community with at least 60,000 golf cars cruising on seperate roadways. I use mine as a car, I don't golf. I don't see any reason to wear out the starter and battery with constant starting every time I stop. My car has been set up this way for 11 years and 39,000 miles and has not caused a problem.

This is an old video I know. Just for anyone else who does this conversion, just so you know, the generator will not charge the battery unless your foot is on the accelerator pedal, even though the engine is idling. The foot switch also controls the the charging part of the system. There is more to doing this conversion correctly.
@@chrisao1987 There are two completely separate circuits in the gen/starter. Each circuit has it's own set of brushes. Each circuit has it own set of field windings. If the charging section of the generator is not energized, it will not charge.
@@wisnolormejuste7571 Yes, but you will have to rewire the cart to the way a key-start cart is wired. That involves changing the ignition switch, adding the diode pack that mounts to the frame, and doing some re-wiring of the electrical system. It can be done if you know how to read a schematic and understand wiring. I did it to my 2009 Carryall. It's now a key-start and charges at idle perfectly. I also made a custom dash and added a digital display for speed, hours, mileage, voltage and engine temp.
But beware, at these low engine RPMs, the starter generator RPMs are NOT high enough to put out a sufficient charge to the battery, so don't sit idling for long or you'll kill your battery.
I found it extremely hard to get the cart to shift gears when I did this mod Felt like I was going to brake the lever. Any ideas This was with the idle backed all the way out. I was thinking the clutch may have a problem. Thanks for any help
I recently ran my 1997 carryall gas battery dead by parking it with headlights left on. I Recharged it and either coincidence, luck or timing, engine wasn’t starting on stock car using the pedal. It was very hit or miss but mostly not starting. Any suggestions on things to check? I replaced the micro switches last year but they were probably cheap Chineese crap.
I have an 06 club car with the 290. I cant seem to find the black wire that you disconnected first. Is the black wire coming from the pedal switch? Please help I really would like to do this to my cart. Thanks.
@@tonysauceda5533 the black wire disconnected inside the fuse box it went to the ignition coil whenever the car would go into neutral it would shut power off to the ignition coil or ground it out
It could also be directly connected to the chassis of the car when you're not pushing on the gas pedal it makes a connection to the ignition coil to shut the car off you could find it by checking it with the multimeter to community and if you touch that wire and the chassis it should show a connection it just needs to be disconnected
Do not disconnect the white wire. You want the engine to be off when switching from forward to reverse. Also put it in maintenance mode and adjust your idle screw.
I have never worked on the Yamaha but I'm pretty sure it's basically the same concept because they all use the same engines to the four wheelers and four wheelers run all the time

The tiny little screw on the carb is what you are looking for. He mentions a screw with a flathead on it that controls the idling rpm of the engine. turn it to the left, the engine will idle lower. Turn it to the right, it will idle higher. Adjust the screw with the flathead screwdriver until the engine idles high enough that it does not stall out, but low enough not to engage the clutch/drive belt, causing the cart to move. There will be a "sweet spot" in there where it will be just right. Hope this helps! Cheers!
Can you show me where the engine kill wire is supposed to go. My cart wouldn't shut off, so I looked and there was a wire hanging. When I grounded it it killed the engine, but I can not figure out where it is supposed to go. It is coming from the bottom of the motor and going toward the back. Like toward the starter.
In the event you use your cart for golf, leaving it running is not an option. But, after doing a full tuneup on a friend's 2000 DS, it is hard to hold a consistent idle with your hand on the peddle while you try to adjust the new carb. One question though, we are in a very hilly area and when off-throttle descending a hill the cart sputters a bit. I think air/fuel/throttle-and maybe a valve adjust is pertinent.
I use this vehicle most of the time in cold weather and it takes a while to warm up so if I let it shut off and I'm ready to go it's not ready to go and just a little less wear and tear on the starter
The only way I could think of getting more bottom and power for takeoff is getting into the transmission and changing out the gears or adding a small turbo to get more power that would be the safest ways I can think of

The reason why I have it to idle is during the winter seasons I park it out in the woods and go do my hunting and sometime I have to move around if it's not warming up right it starts to lag and it could also kill the battery from you trying to get it to start
No just while I'm stocking up the feed plots putting stuff out salt blocks things like that and then move to the next spot if you shut the vehicle off and you're there for more than 5 minutes it's kind of cold and it takes a while to start back up and hold the choke and do everything back over
That's the number one question that I've been asked and the answer is in the winter time I usually go out on my hunting ground with it and if it's cold it's hard to start and go with it so usually it's just idling and when I'm ready to go I can go

I have a 2006 clubcart can I do this to it. I don't see a box with that relay where you unplugged the black wire.
I've got mine set up this way, it's a lot smoother to drive this way.

This is GREAT to know, I know nothing about these and was looking at a used one to buy and I couldn't understsand WHY it was ideling so slow.

This is an old video I know. All you need to do now is reduce the idle

You can also service it if the engine needs to be running but not moving.

Rick Bowman clean the carb and a new spark plug will help " make sure the fuel is fresh and always keep the engine oil checked and full !

Yours might be a different color code but that wire should have nothing to do with the shifting from drive to reverse

Basically so it's running constantly so its kinda like a 2wd sxs
its not "running. its just the starter turning over

It’s useful when you need the engine running while servicing. Otherwise you need to jack up the car and run it in gear.
