HOW TO: Saugeye Fishing and Retrieving Techniques using Swimbaits

- I made this video in the fall. Please use this video to help a new angler or a seasoned angler get into saugeye, Also this will add another tool to your bag when you go river fishing! Big Joshys have produced soo many fish last year and I cannot wait for this fishing season! Especially on the Great Miami River. I have caught anything from the freshwater drum, smallmouth bass, spotted bass and saugeye on these swimbait retrieves! Good luck and like this video if it helps you out! Saugeye fishing has quickly become one of my favorite species to target in Ohio! These tips and tricks will help you year-round with saugeye. Swimbaits are probably one of the best baits to tie on and catch these toothy critters. I hope you have learned something in this video! TIGHT LINES!

I have caught so many fish just barely retrieving my swimbaits..something about slow rolling a bait and it gets destroyed..pure adrenaline
@@thecreekcrawler very much so. I've done the same so many times although I dont do a lot of swim bait fishing a0nymore but it's fun for sure
Thank you for the Saugeye. Last time I was Saugeye fishing at Deer Creek, I nailed a 2ft carp on a yellow mr twister grubb 😂. I did get some Big Joshys at the Expo so I'll be trying them.

@@thecreekcrawlerBig Joshy update: Already hooked and line cut on a 3ft Tiger muskie at Alum creek spillway in early February saugeye fishing. ( white and glittery 3.25")
Last Sunday at a new rebuilt spillway in SE Ohio, nailed 7 bass at 12" - 16" range with a Big Joshy 3.25 Bullhead color w/ Jigmasters hooks in fast muddy current.

Also curious how you go about finding parking places. As far as I can see there’s not really any place close to this spot to park.
There is some parking spots within about 300 yards. Just gotta park along the road
Cool how to. I love saugeye fishing but getting a larger one in the lakes around me like deercreek are few and far between. Never used a joshy for them. Always used crappie jigs.
my biggest saugeye ever came off of a crappie jig lol Try some swimbaits in the shallow coves at night in the summer

I agree Justin. We don't get the funding like the other districts do for the fish and wildlife. I spoke to a fish biologist about it from Chillicothe and that's what he had told me. The Scioto is awesome if you can get the access in Chillicothe area.

no problem I love teaching people how to catch fish! I have never been to acton lake. I went to caesars creek as a kid but not since then.

@@thecreekcrawler you sir are definitely one of my favorite UA-camrs. Would love to meet in person and fish together. Hopefully I run into ya out on the water. Sometimes ring there to experience it makes all the difference. I tried whites mill few weeks back and that current was just constantly dragging my lure way out in the water. This year has been a first for me targeting rivers and they are definitely there own species in the ways you fish them. Haven’t quite gotten the hang of it but I’m trying to learn cause I want to make a trip down to Racine this fall.

The river is a very productive fishery once you figure out the basics and put time in on the water! my biggest tip is to stay simple. Dont make it complicated
Alum Creek or Antrim Lake in Columbus, Man.
I fished Alum spillway once but I live pretty far from both locations. I have Lake Logan and Buckeye within a reasonable distance.

walleye, saugeye and sauger! you'll catch them all with some swimbaits

ahh you could probably figure something out with a texas rigged swimbait! just peg the bullet weight!

I've noticed that u keep pulling at your line after u cast(right before u retrieve your bait)why are u doing that?is there a good reason why,or is it somekind of habit u formed?just don't understand why u constantly pull at your drag
it is a habit I have formed and I haven't really noticed until I started recording myself fishing. I fear losing fish to drag being too tight lol
Actually pulling at your line could weaken it,just an observation.to each his own.love your channels thoug
