Dude you are the best! I love your channel. Straight to the point. No five minutes of rambling on about things that have nothing to do with the video. No annoying product placement hoping that you will land some sort of sponsorship. Just detailed information with the data to back up what you are teaching. you currently top the list of fishing channels in my opinion.
I need to add that @fishthemonent sent me to your page. If anyone seeing this comment is looking for in-depth how-to videos regarding your fish finder electronics. @fishthemoment is a great place as well.
Great guide. I started fishing 2 years ago and I've tried to learn as many rigs and techniques as possible. As many others have said, the dropshot is basically my secret weapon on days when nothing else is getting bites. I always have one of my rods rigged up with it. It's just a super reliable and versatile rig that every bass fisherman should have in their arsenal.
Excellent video as usual Jeff. Could you possibly do a video on bank bass fishing. I think a lot of your viewers don't have boats with fish finders and learning how to bank fish would be very helpful. Thank you very much.
Basically the same drop shot setup... Its most all i do here in S. Korea. I toss at an angle toward the bank and work its way back to me jigging slightly. Kills bass here.
I used this today and caught my first 2lb and 16" smallmouth bass. I am on such a high after only catchin pumpkinseeds for the past 5 weeks. And this set up help keep the gobies from my live baits.
I'm amazed with this rig. Used it many times just to mess around but the 1st time I really committed to fishing with it for more than a few casts I caught a 3 Lbs Largemouth and a 8Lbs catfish. Because of that I got a spinning reel combo and to use it for more finesse presentations. Definitely a rig that works all year round and worth trying.
Definitely an awesome rig. I've been doing a drop shot popper fly rig for bass this year ... Been crushing it! I have some videos of it on my channel if you're interested!
This is the most informative drop shot rigging segment I have seen thus far. All the rigging techniques here make sense because they are several different ways to make your bait move, depending on what you have available in your box right now! LOVE IT!!!
hands down, 1000% correct on everything you said about the dropshot. it works in almost ANY situation and ANY location. probably the most deadly rig i have use thus far. deep water, shallow water, drop offs, weed edge, sand bar just about ANYWHERE. the only down side to this rig is that you'll get so bored catching so many fish and it a slow working rig lol. i usually dont go straight to drop shot, but when its a hard day, i know what rig im using.
I watch a lot of these videos everyday , I,m retired , and this was as good as I,ve seen for detailed instruction. I will go here first. My lake is 39 degrees . Keep this format and they will come.
This fantastic video. I am big city girl raising a child in the country and had no clue on how to fix a line for fishing. This was a life saver. Thanks
Hey. I've never used this technique before. Looking around on UA-cam on info about it, this is the best tutorial I've seen on it, would have spent more time on the uniknot, but all in all a great video.
Excellent Demo - Accurate, precise and clear - should be the first thing any fisherman reads before starting to fish a drop shot! Jim Brawner. Richardson, TX
I love using a bug 12 inch heavy worm instead of the weight of the bottom. Obviously it makes it lighter but giving two presentations in one has caught me tons of bass.
Short and to the point. Better than the “younger” generations Channels. With all the gimmicks and bs and the last 2 minutes being about what we came to see. Good job bud. Great video
This is the best, most straightforward video I’ve seen about the drop shot. It covers hook choice, bait choice, rigging, and fishing technique in a succinct and concise manner. Excellent job...keep up the great work. You have a new subscriber in me!
HatCamBass Guy: You did a very good job on this video. Your speaking was very clear and easy to understand. Your use of props to communicate how to tie knots was very effective. (A lot of fishing video ask the audience to see tiny things from very far away). To close, nice job!
I am staggered. In 2006 Berkley introduced soft plastic fishing to new Zealand. We loved it for sea fishing and taught us the value of fluorocarbon as leader. For years we have used ledger or paternoster rigs but always tied with leader, and always with a length of leader from the mainline so the hook floats out and away from the mainline. You dont bother with that or even leader and you catch fish. Amazing
I would also recommend bobber stoppers for the hook. this will allow adjusting the depth of the hook and you can easily adjust it to conditions. Awesome video as usual.
I watched a guy use this rig for walleye fishing at my local dam. He just stood on the side wall of the dam dangling it straight down where the water gushes out of the secondary vent. He had a live minnow on it and the walleye couldn't resist. I watched him catch his and his sons limit in about 25 minutes. That's why I'm here to learn this rig. Thanks!
Great video. I started really fishing for bass with the corona quarantine. With the internet I have learned a ton and my fishing has really improved. So far I have used consistently, flukes, worms (Texas and wacky), spinner baits, top water (frog, plug, whopper popper), and swim jigs, just one on a chapter bait. I haven't tried the drop shot. I will get the necessary tackle try it and report back. I live in South Florida and fish deep residential canals of my paddle board. This technic sounds like a good option.
*I bought these and used them at the river where I get snags often they have done a **enjoyable.fishing** recommend great job of not breaking along with some strong line I purchased as well. They are super durable and easy to use.*
Your video on using salamanders helped me catch a bass on the first and second casts. I’ve never caught one on a salamander before and your tips helped me land two right away. Can’t wait to try this method too. Thanks man!
I have been tying my drop shot rigs with palomar knots. Tuck the tag end back through the eye to get it to stand up straight and it works fine. I also tie 2 hooks on above the weight, about 8-12 inches apart. I've been using bait holder hooks with live worms on them and have caught smallmouth, sucker fish, catfish, tench, largemouth, and even a pike! I either cast it out and let it sit or I will lift the rod tip slowly and draw the weight across the bottom and then lower the rod tip and reel in the slack. Both techniques have produced fish for me!
Great video. Simple to understand. Well explained and straight to the point. Don't know if you're still posting since this is 9 years old. But I subscribed.
Great video, lots of good information for someone trying to figure it all out. The only thing I would say is, if you use the correct dropshot hook it will not need to be bent. A lot of cheap dropshot hooks are built like wide gap hooks. A 6th sense or gamakatsu dropshot is ready to go. Stay away from dropshotnhooks that have the hookpoint pointing at the eyelet, it makes a huge difference in hookup ration and nearly eliminates lost fish. Great video.
Good job man. Short, sweet, and easy to understand. I'm definitely watching your other videos! If you ever fished near Portland let me know where and how the winter fishing is done!
I tried drop shot for the first time this year, although I have had the hooks and weights for many years, I was amazed at the bass and walleye I have caught, and this video is so easy to understand unlike the old ones from ten or more years ago that made the drop shot a mystery.
I am a multi-species fisherman, and I use this rig a lot but I primarily fish with live bait and dead bait and I use two hooks instead of one. I also use a specialized dropshot knot which seems to keep the hook in place a lot better than other knots.
Wow this is the best fishing guide ive ever seen. Not a 20 min video where like 70% of the time is bs and you try to find the interesting spots by clicking through the video.
We used to do this 40 years ago in southern Calif lakes. Don Iovino from burbank made some beautiful drop shot and doodle bait and complete kits. Most beautiful hand poured colors and worms you ever saw. We murdered giant bass at castaic in the 1980s
I didn't know about this trick and moved into an apartment with a couple of small ponds. These ponds have bass but are highly pressured. I caught a few using conventional lures and such but not much. I made a friend who used this technique and was catching a lot more fish. So I eventually tried it and on the first few casts, caught a much bigger than average for this pond, 5 pound bass. Ive had pretty good luck with it so far.
I fish urban ponds here in AZ and to say they're over fished is an understatement. This is the only rig I use if I want to guarantee getting at least 1 fish.
Best video i've found yet of this technique. Simple and straight to the point with visuals. Thanks! I wonder if this will work for fall time bass, guess i'll have to try it out.
over 40 years ago We rigged prusik knots above and below the hook allowing us to adjust depth fast . We called it slip hooking . We also used up to 3 hooks .
Yo dude, fantastic video. Loved watching the whole thing. I Especially liked your final comments about techniques. I've been looking for a simple explanations and you made perfect sense. Thank you from a now enlightened English man. Cheers my man.
Awesome video, I just got back into Bass fishing and keep hearing about the drop shot and ur vid helps me understand it perfectly. Can't wait to rig up my own and test it out
New to bass fishing ... thanks for such an outstanding video ... simple but thorough and a great bonus look at the uni-knot --- the shortcuts didn't apply to me, but what a slick touch
Love to watch this video over & over. Deadly technique for Bass. Also for Stripers using the original zoom fluke. Super Flukes work too but i find it more Deadly with the original. Keep them lines tight.🎣
Wow man,I've just started using artificial baits last year. Your channel is far more helpful and informative than most other channels. Anyways , I wonder where you've went? You should get this channel up and going again

I like how you get straight to the point with the helpful info without a ridiculous intro. Thanks for all the great tips!!!
The production value here is top. So many fishing instructionals are a guy staring at the camera with one angle. Much appreciated

Totally right, most simple and direct explanation i saw around! Thanks @HatCamBass. I ll try these tips here at my winter fishing trips in Brazil

It's a great setup for bluegil and catfish too. You just use a larger weight or them but it is an amazing setup for all bottom feeders.
Thanks for the tip... I will certainly give it a try.
Will a catfish bite a plastic bait? Or only decaying stuff?
i uni knot for everything already so this should be easy to set up. thank you for the info.
As a beginner I found this very helpful ! Going to try the drop shot next week on my first fishing trip at the lake, thanks for the helpful video.

I agree, Roboworm straight tail worms are the best! Great Video!
