@@-MAX813- how does someone love bass fishing,is a long time professional, and hasn't heard of Butch? Guy was all over magazines and articles with his huge 50 lb bags for years...smh doesn't make sense
For us northern folk, we call it "running a stinger" when jigging walleyes. Keep the main hook and run a size 8-10 treble on a pre tied piece of braid aka "stinger hook" and it'll change your life. When we Jigs we let the hook free swing but when we're casting we'll one hook it back into the body. Works well for threaded on live bait as well. 👊
Absolute game changer! I fish swimbaits 50% of the time and I can attest, short strikes are very common. Best believe this will be my set up on my next trip. Thanks for sharing!
I've been making this trap rig for hailbut. After I get the proper length, I use duo locks. Then I can add them to the eye, and change my grub, or swimbaits accordingly. Each size if bait, get their own sets of traps....pre- made. No time loss on water rigging. Hope this helps someone.
Great tip! If I may add too, rig your swim jig as normal. Tie a Palomar knot to the jig head leaving the existing hook on, tie your treble hook to the tag end of the Palomar knot and insert treble hook accordingly. 😊👍🏻
I was wondering why you wouldn't leave the hook on the jig head? Seems like a person would have 4 hooks rather than 3. Plus you've added a short knot to lure and seems risky to gamble on this?
@@julienichols4188 I think the reason he cut off the hook is because as he explained it he does not want the lure in the fish's mouth when he hooks it.
We use this rig all the time when fishing for pikes. Due to the bigger swimbaits we leave the jig head intact and just add the stinger. Instead of clipping the hook of the Okashira jig head you could also use screw in heads (e.g. Gunki g'fish screw from 3/16 all the way up to 1oz)

Agreed. First thing I thought. Run the whole jig head and the stinger. Halibut style. Baits add up, and there's too many used plastic baits in our lakes as well. Most plastic baits sink now adays from all the impregnated salt. Here in our lakes, so many bass have bellys full of soft plastic baits. To the point the many can't feed properly.
I usually use this rig when fishing for pike. You can also prep varying lengths in advance with loops at the end. Instead of attaching it directly to the jig-head, you can simply hang it in the snap with your jig-head. Also I leave the jig's hook intact. This way I can use shorter jigs to allow for more play in my baits while also reducing dead strikes due to the stinger which is changeable and the rig stays adjustable when I change my bait's size. When fishing for pike I use a wire leader. A good way to circumvent the use of jig-heads for shallow fishing is to use screws and 1-2 stingers depending on the size of the lure. Some screws come with adjustable weights but you can also use pear shaped weights to hang in the snap to adjust to the situation.
Wow Randy Thanks for the Tip. I was fishing Big Joshy's with a normal weighted head just today and lost 3 or 4 fish because they were only biting the tail. I'm definitely going to be trying this out.

And if i am fishing without a main single hook and use only trebles instead i'm always using either screw-in heads or shallow screws plus a cheburashka weight. A clipped jighead will very easily loose the swimbait so you need to put some superglue on to hold the bait.
Because its rigged out of the top. You would have to rig the jig head upside down to do what your talking about. And that would defeat the purpose because its to reduce the fishes leverage

ive been doing this same thing with spinnerbaits i find on the river where the hook is rusted past sharpening i just clip it straight polish the blades and tie on a baitholder wire and rig it up with a swim bait and treble
From Randy’s description; rigging it this way allows the hook to depart the bait which helps to prevent the fish from throwing the bait. Makes sense to me. I’ve got to try it this way.
Yea but how many swim baits do you go thru using the jig head and just. Driving into the swim baits plus if it comes off there goes your swim bait on the 1st fish. And still in good use.
My trout rid is much like this and it's a killer. I use a gold Aberdeen to nose hook a 2" rubber critter with the treble in trail like you have. A split shot 8" up the line. Never thought to up size it.
A good middle ground is to use a better jig head. Kalins Ultimate are my go to cause of the long shank hooks on them, great for getting the set on short strikers.
Gotta check out some state regulation for this stuff. After altering the lure they could maybe count it as two hooks and I know where I live they give you a hook limit and hook restrictions in certain areas. What we do here is called a "stinger" hook and we can actually connect them right to the hook on the jig head no cutting
Thanks for that tip I never would have thunk that's. I cut the plastic back a section on my Cod jigs. When the black sea bass are in 2.8 to 5 lb. Limit out in 4 cast's of the cod rock anyways always come home with fish if the Salmon aren't there.

I've used a weighted EWG hook and just hung the treble hook from the ewg hook. Learned it from Ike
ive been doing this same thing with spinnerbaits i find on the river where the hook is rusted past sharpening i just clip it straight polish the blades and tie on a baitholder wire and rig it up with a swim bait and treble
From Randy’s description; rigging it this way allows the hook to depart the bait which helps to prevent the fish from throwing the bait. Makes sense to me. I’ve got to try it this way.
Great Idea. Thanks
I like it, thanks a lot. Subscribed!
Great tip, however, I don't cut my jig hook off that way I don't lose the swim bait
Great tip, hard core !🙂
Great advice as always Randy! Well done. 👊🏼
in D we fish on this way since years for pike, river perch und zander. but good video :)
Thanks man. You just gave me some others idea's..
A good middle ground is to use a better jig head. Kalins Ultimate are my go to cause of the long shank hooks on them, great for getting the set on short strikers.
Awesome !!! Thanks, Randy !!!!
Makes sense. Thank you!
Gotta check out some state regulation for this stuff. After altering the lure they could maybe count it as two hooks and I know where I live they give you a hook limit and hook restrictions in certain areas.
What we do here is called a "stinger" hook and we can actually connect them right to the hook on the jig head no cutting
Exactly!
No, one hook is ONE hook Bro...
Awesome video thanks
Thanks for that tip I never would have thunk that's. I cut the plastic back a section on my Cod jigs. When the black sea bass are in 2.8 to 5 lb. Limit out in 4 cast's of the cod rock anyways always come home with fish if the Salmon aren't there.
Another good tip Randy!
