@@jiovanirivera852 Yep, I remember that talk, something about using the bleeding effect as a gameplay mechanic to overcome obstacles in the modern day. The three modern missions in AC3 were absolute highlights for me, despite some inherent AC3 jankiness.
If only we got continuation of Desmonds story... There was something special about going back to modern time and knowing about the secrets and ancient powers of the world. It gave you this sense of being on top of the world. Him walking into abstergo and all the doctors being scared just by seeing him. @@Delta_2209 The game can be fun but it’s not really AC. There’s no social stealth. The hidden blade doesn’t one shot even when undetected. The ability to complete certain targets in whatever order you choose makes the game feel disjointed. It’s only really noticeable with side quests but it’s still there. Complex questions surrounding certain topics are reduced to juvenile humor.
@@dagothurik1815 There's no stealth *period.* Sneaking in Valhalla is impossible and you always get caught if you try. Also, you don't even play as assassins in either odyssey nor valhalla, even though it would've been appropriate in the latter. Some guy at Ubisoft watched Vikings and went "which game series can I make this in" instead of actually thinking about the centuries-spanning feud. They even had a perfectly good reason to make Eivor an assassin and threw it away. I genuinely have no idea what they were thinking, and at this point I feel like even *I* can write up a better story than them.
Honestly, despite Vidic supposedly being a highly intelligent man, it was pretty stupid of him to think Desmond would give him the Apple WITHOUT using it. Especially considering that Desmond's bloodline is actually known to be highly resistant to the effects of Isu artifacts.
Eh well, people by this point STILL don't really know how the artifacts work, and you need Desmond or William to be able to delve into that ancestorial line by this point. Desmond got out and all Vidic had seen was Altair simply finding the apple, not Ezio using it in Rome, or Desmond in his coma living Altair using the apple with a lifetimes worth of proficiency.
Yeah it was retarded he wouldn't just shoot him on contact. But no. "HAND IT TO ME, Hand me the overpowered, super weapon that I KNOW is capable of mind control!"
They really should've played it up better with Vidic. I really disliked this part of AC3 and how they completely end him like that. Nothing against killing him but this was just such a stupid segment altogether. He was a great antagonist across the games.
@@xDinomanx Yeah that was the thing with AC3- Desmond and Vidic were the closest things to a main protagonist and a main antagonist. They both get off'd and they still haven't been able to fill the void. Doesn't help that Layla and Juno were thrown away just as anti-climatically.
imagine if they did a full game with Desmond in the modern day. Vidic has gone underground and to find him, we have to go to various Abstergo head offices, taking out the CEO's whom are Templars. Each time we find a clue to where Vidic is. And then finally finding out he is back at the AC1 base where we need to blend, parkour, eagle vision and more to reach him undetected for a stealth kill using the hidden blade. And to top it off, Vidic gets his own AC1 death monologue. Stood on a white drop justifying himself to Desmond, still arguing semantics and Desmond quoting Altier in the end. "There is no death. Only a changing of worlds. Somewhere between right and wrong, there's a bright garden. Rest in peace, Warren Vidic." or go full ham and say something like "I'll pick my own future, Vidic. I'm not a Templar lacky like Lucy. I'm an assassin." Pop his hood up so we just see the whites of his eyes and he backs out to do a eagle dive from the window.
This actually reminded me of last moments of AC2 where you get out of animus and they throw you the hidden blade. If you equiped your fists at this point you could disarm an enemy and get the batton to smack them with. Just a cool detail for any lost soul reading this.
“You put everything on the line, just so you could rescue your father?” “Yeah.” I really love this exchange between them, just the subtle understanding between them that there’s no changing who either of them are, but that they’ll always be there for one another.
Yeah he is an awful person. And incompetent as well. If he cannot take care of one son, how is he allowed to lead the Assassins? It doesn't make sense. Family is more important, even for someone in their situation. You cannot put the creed first and then expect people to trust you.
@@alinpetrescu2309 There's some audio in black flag in the modern day that delves into this deeper. Mr.Miles is repentant but you also see how great a person Desmond was.
Well, consider that he's collected the experience of 3 seperate assassin's who spent decades hpnong thier skills, in a matter of days/weeks. Altair: 96 years Ezio: 64 years Connor: 29 years Combine those together and Desmond has nearly 200 years of Master Assassin's skills and knowledge in his head in little over a month. So yeah, dude is OP 🤣
Asking him to “give me the Apple” was the equivalent of a movie villain asking the vigilante to “let me go!” while being held by their tie, dangling on the precipice of a rooftop.
I both hate and love this level, it’s like “YES, Desmond is kicking all the ass and showing what a badass he is” but I feel it should have been significantly more difficult. Why are the guards so likely armed? They kidnapped an Assassin Grandmaster and the taunted the Order, they should be ready for War, not relying on a bunch of security guards and one unstable experiment
All they needed was a couple of guys with taser guns and a few flashbangs. Extra points if they show up with riot gear. They're fighting a dude with some knives, yet believe bringing some clubs is more than enough.
Well usually guards for companies have a baton and pistol. Besides I think the guards were told to take him in alive based on the conversations and Desmond's potential for further research. Daniel Cross is a guard as well who could of taken down Desmond.
"They know I'm here", look, we agree he is a badass , but you gotta admit him walking in the most possible modern assassin's outfit he could get, kinda gave it away, lmao
@@BlayBlaytheNutcase Major fault with the game mechanics. Either laziness or they didn't want the Desmond fights to be so frustrating players set the game down.
Ever since AC 1, THIS was what I always wanted from an AC game: a modern day assassin mission. They didn't disappoint.
Its so disappointing that Desmond was just killed off and forgotten about by ubisoft. This could have been the perfect opportunity to give us a modern day assassins creed
@@nicksalehi97 how are they not assassins creed games? And in all 3 you hunt templars as part of the main plot. In what way aren't they assassins creed games?
I love how far Desmond had come, from having no idea how to fight barely handling a few guards (Ac 1) to learning and honing his skills and realizing his potential and importance (Ac 2) to casually and skillfully murdering guards at ease as he makes his way to the top of the building (Ac 3) AC 3 will always be my favorite 👍
Well as you hear immediately over the intercom "subdue the subject" they would prefer to keep him alive to use his genes to the fullest. After his death in 3 they had to resort to dead dna and not as effective methods for a bit
I always though it was so stupid that his sleeve is under the hidden blade. It's a "hidden" blade. Shouldn't he have his sleeve over top of it so no one can see it?
The blade would get caught on the hoodie if it was inside the sleeve. Everyone in the memories uses the inner forearm of bracers, which is why it's considered hidden. You need a constant space around the blade for it to be useful in any way.
I’ll never forget how Nolan North gave an interview in which he said Desmond was meant to be the ultimate assassin who takes down Abstergo and would be able to manipulate time at the end (the calculations)
Seeing Desmond fight felt like upgraded techniques of Altair, Ezio and Conner. And not only technique kills he also used his surrounding cautiously like jumping through walls and stuff
This bit made me realise the huge potential Desmond had at such a young age (25) he had Altair, Ezio and Conor skills combined, he can handle so many opponents. Now imagine if Desmond(the reader) was in his mortal form fighting against Loki aka Basim.
yeah. enemies don't just die from a stealth skill anymore, there's no counter one-hit kills with fluid combat movements and the game becomes more and more depended on good lootboxes that has "legendary equipment" instead of having to gather collectibles and craft for endgame stuff. People also have levels now that makes them able to tank hits that's supposed to kill them in real life, which takes away that bit of realism that the old games has. Even parkour movements on maps is becoming less prevalent. Assassin's Creed is becoming more like a generic grindy triple A combat games rather than the stealth-themed action-packed series it was before. And it seems like Ubisoft has this little knack of going back in time lately eventhough Assassins doesn't mostly exist yet back then. If it's a one time thing that contributes to the story like Origins then sure, but going as far back as the Spartan era or Vikings is way too farfetched for a game that's supposed to be about Assassins imo
@@jalenbrown5306 I'm just wondering when they'll be publishing an AC game set in the modern era. They pretty much got a lot of it going already in Desmond's parts in the old games. Watch Dogs doesn't count eventhough it's technically set in the same universe. Edit: although considering how they make the latest games, it's probably for the best they don't tap into that gold mine yet until they actually got their crap together. Although that likely would not happen in the foreseeable future, if at all considering their latest business practices.
I didn't make it past Black Flag, and even then I was only showing up for the at the time revolutionary ocean sailing mechanic. I was pretty ready to give up on AC after the terrible ending of 3 made it pretty clear they had no idea where they should have been going with the story.

Yo, i had the same experience as you in terms of where i stopped with the games. Got a ps4 during the lockdown to play what i'd missed, and Unity is a bonafide classic game. 4:58 its like, how are we supposed to suspend our disbelief when the game literally has a character tell desmond how ridiculous it is that he's carving through security like this without a gun. desmond only survives because cross has the most ridiculously convenient mental breakdown of all time.
I plan on replaying the entire AC franchise and achieving 100% completion in all of them. The Ezio trilogy, this part of AC3, and Black Flag are the key moments I'm really looking forward to seeing again.
Btw remember how in AC1 an Assassin team tried to rescue him and they all died or had to retreat and he soloed the entire building and he didnt even have to he could of mind controlled everyone there
As much as I loved Desmond's combat sections, I will never get it out of my mind that every single Abstergo guard is only armed with a baton. The creators of the Animus, ran by what is essentially the Illuminati can't afford to give their guards guns.
They probably couldn't handle having to code more guards with guns given the limitations of the game's engine at the time. And some of the Abstergo security shown here have a mix of batons and pistols but they couldn't make them fire more shots probably due to time and development constraints, so they reused the same animations and AI as the guards during the Connor missions for the modern missions.
Vidic: We enrich lives. We save and transform them. Desmond: Yeah. I’m sure Lincoln, JFK, Houdini, Gandhi, Joan of Ark, and the victims of the Holocaust all felt ‘saved’ by what the Templars did to them, Doc.
My only problem with this mission is that it seemed everyone in the building was a Templar, not just some people working for a corp. A decent number turning and preparing is one thing but everyone turns, stares, and acts like it’s the end.
When I played this game for the first time, the mortality of it all never really hit me. Looking back, Desmond and the Assassins really were just slaughtering random people lol like "Assassins don't kill innocents" but somehow 9-5er security guards (and other random guardsmen just doing their job) weren't innocent? Makes me think of a version of the earlier games that could've been where you'd only be allowed to kill your targets, or certain factions of enemies (IE the British soldiers in III - NOT the guards wandering the city - or the folks of the ships you'd board or forts you'd invade in IV) thus making the games more focused on stealth and being clever with your gadgets to avoid killing innocents.
Really unlikely that they hired Bob from Walmart to guard one of the headquarters of their top secret organization. If they're allowed in the building past the lobby, they're Templars, not 9-5ers. As for guards during the Animus part of the game- I see it as this: they immediately move to kill you if you so much as trespass; literally no attempt to arrest or detain just straight to killing you, so I don't really lose much sleep over killing those guys. The parts where you board ships and forts in IV and do raids in Valhalla though is fucked up but that's what Pirates and Vikings did 🤷🏾♂️ nobody said they were good people.
Remember when people were theorizing AC4 was going to be a send off to the historical ac games in preparation for a escalation of the Templar-Assassins conflict that would have culminated in a 5th game that was all modern day?
True Desmond was like a true Major Protagonist. Now its just some random guy working for Abstergo. Its like they couldn't even have some other Assassin taking Desmond place as the new Protagonist 😒
my favourite part of this break-in is when the guards armed with semi-auto pistols try only one shot, miss it because of shooting 90 degrees to the direction of main hero, and after that one shot obediently rush towards their certain death in melee combat
I've been playing through AC Valhalla, and man... I really miss Desmond as the through-line character. This was one of my favorite moments in the entire series, (really, any chance we had to be Desmond moving around and being an Assassin was a massive highlight.) They tried to make Layla the new Desmond, and Layla blows. Not even bringing back Shawn and Rebecca could save her, and I'm not wild about how they changed Shawn's looks and Rebecca's voice actress, either. The focus of the game is always on the historical part, but this central narrative with Desmond, Lucy, Shawn, and Rebecca really held it all together nicely. The series hasn't been the same without them. I was really hoping that eventually, we'd get a full game of just Desmond, until the end of III happened and it became impossible. But a modern AC game with Shawn and Rebecca would actually be really fun, especially since Watch Dogs is part of the same universe and there could be crossover mechanics and story.
That line from Vidic was stuck in my head for some reason over the past hour and I couldn't remember where it is from. Had to look it up on google and it told me it's Warren Vidic, so I remembered it could only be from this scene. "You just keep taking and taking what isn't yours!"
There are 2 William Miles moments in the Assassin's Creed series that I will always remember. This scene when Desmond rescues his father and the Scene from Origin when William recruits Layla.
Okay but looking back why did he not just use the Apple the instant he got to the upper levels. He would've been able to freeze the guards instead of killing them, and just take out the actual Templars?? Idk Desmond went a bit crazy now that i see this again.
Vidic really didn't think his plan through. 'Hmmm let me kidnap the dad of my arch nemesis that currently possess a deadly weapon that can kill anyone easily"
Bro i realized that Desmond is the best assassin in the creed of all time cause he was basically train by ezio Altair Connor and by the people who trained them so he has the best skills as an assassin overall
These sections in AC3 always made me think of how cool a modern day Assassin's Creed game would be. I guess the Watch Dogs series gets somewhat close and there are a few references, but it's still very distinct from ever getting close to a full on Assassin's' game both plot and gameplay wise. Would still like to see this properly happen one day.
I can only imagine how great Desmond would have been if they hadn’t killed him off. We see him progress from being a normal guy, a random bartender, to becoming one of the most powerful modern day assassins wielding the apple against his enemies without causing himself any harm, like when Ezio used it but hurt himself every time he did. There was such a huge buildup in the first 3 games. Then in the 4th it’s revealed that he died. And I just felt empty when I first played and was reading the files about Desmond’s death. No modern day protagonist since then can fill his shoes. Layla is okay, but no one could ever come close to Desmond.
I'm so disappointed that they didn't utilize Desmond's character more. When I was little I always thought they'd have these games build up to him retaining this ancient assassins knowledge, and eventually having a modern day game with no ties to history besides the current power templars within Abstergo.

@@MisterK9739 Each to their own but a majority of the community agrees they killed off Desmond too early but at the same time I get why they went with the end of the world route and his sacrifice since in 2012 there were plenty of rumors that the world was going to end if I remember correctly
@@Mort4Us they still didn't need to go that route though honestly, maybe he could've activated the machine and gone into a coma or something other. Thankfully they didn't do it though since it probably would've included that rpg nonsense they did in the new games
Sucks that they killed off Desmond. It felt like they were building him up to be one of the greatest assassins that has ever lived.

@@dagothurik1815 you know, AC Origins actually is fun, and has an acceptable story for Bayek. But the modern days plotline is shit since AC4
Don't forget the beginning when all you have is altair's knowledge and you gotta fight your way out with lucy.
AC2 was great going unarmed and stealing the massive axes of the elite guards, then causing absolute havoc.
I tried this in this game and it works, I believe. Can't remember for sure, it's been a long time.
“You put everything on the line, just so you could rescue your father?”
“Yeah.”
I really love this exchange between them, just the subtle understanding between them that there’s no changing who either of them are, but that they’ll always be there for one another.
Desmond's Dad wouldn't have come for him. He put the creed first. This is a theme in AC3.
Yeah he is an awful person. And incompetent as well. If he cannot take care of one son, how is he allowed to lead the Assassins? It doesn't make sense. Family is more important, even for someone in their situation. You cannot put the creed first and then expect people to trust you.

The golden age of Assassin’s Creed. I’m really sad that I grew genuinely exhausted with the gameplay after Origins.
yeah. enemies don't just die from a stealth skill anymore, there's no counter one-hit kills with fluid combat movements and the game becomes more and more depended on good lootboxes that has "legendary equipment" instead of having to gather collectibles and craft for endgame stuff.
If it's a one time thing that contributes to the story like Origins then sure, but going as far back as the Spartan era or Vikings is way too farfetched for a game that's supposed to be about Assassins imo

my favourite part of this break-in is when the guards armed with semi-auto pistols try only one shot, miss it because of shooting 90 degrees to the direction of main hero, and after that one shot obediently rush towards their certain death in melee combat

There are 2 William Miles moments in the Assassin's Creed series that I will always remember. This scene when Desmond rescues his father and the Scene from Origin when William recruits Layla.
The guards thought its a lone medium-skilled assassin. They didn't know they face combined experience of Altair, Ezio and Connor at once
Okay but looking back why did he not just use the Apple the instant he got to the upper levels. He would've been able to freeze the guards instead of killing them, and just take out the actual Templars?? Idk Desmond went a bit crazy now that i see this again.
So did Ezio.
Then he would have showed his hand too early. Vidic wouldn't have taken any chances and killed Desmond's Dad.
@@TheOmegaRiddler Fair and valid. Hadn't thought of that. That's probably why I never questioned it while I was younger.
home boy walked in like he lost his mom in a supermarket, and walked out with the swagger of a king who just won a war
I still can't fathom why those guards would shoot once and put their pistols away like it didn't have multiple bullets in the magazine
I love the look of frustration when Desmond has to climb out of the elevator
Altair, Ezio and Connor would be proud of him
They frankly shouldve given desmond his own game set in modern day, itd be so much cooler to see the assassin's in modern day
Desmond kicking the guy down the elevator shaft was awesome and hilarious.
RIP that modern day assassin's creed game everyone hoped for.
Vidic really didn't think his plan through.
'Hmmm let me kidnap the dad of my arch nemesis that currently possess a deadly weapon that can kill anyone easily"
Lowkey gotta appreciate the running animations, that shit feels heavy and real
Damn! I was expecting some non-lethal takedowns against those baton wielding guards; things went 0-100 fast.
“What are you two waiting for? Let’s go!”
*lags out*
Bro i realized that Desmond is the best assassin in the creed of all time cause he was basically train by ezio Altair Connor and by the people who trained them so he has the best skills as an assassin overall
completely just realized that Desmond only has one hidden blade but is fighting as if he has two.
This was one of my favourite missions/Sequence in all of the AC games
I wish Desmond never died he was my favorite, I don't even know the other animus characters names lol
