Love the fact when connor confronts Haythan about his Mother's death, Haythan's starts to visibly panic. It shows that new is a genuine surprise to him
For anyone interested, here are some of my favourite passages from the book, more specifically the execution scene (which doesn’t involve Haytham in the game.) And if you read it, you’ll see why I love it so: Connor, with his hands bound in front of him, shot a look of hatred at Thomas and, once again, I marvelled at how much of his mother was to be found in those features. But, along with defiance, and bravery, today there was also… Fear. “You said there’d be a trial,“ he snapped, as Thomas manhandled him. “traitors don’t get trials, I’m afraid. Lee and Haytham sorted that out. It’s straight to the gallows for you.” I went cold. Connor was about to go to his death thinking I had signed his death warrant. “I will not die today,” said Connor, proud. “The same cannot be said for you.” - A paragraph or so later - “Brothers, sisters, fellow patriots,” began Charles, and an impatient hush descended over the crowd. “Several days ago we learnt of a scheme vile, so dastardly that even repeating it now disturbs my being. The man before you plotted to murder our much beloved general.” The crowd gasped “Indeed,“ roared Charles, warming to his theme. “What darkness or madness moved him, none can say. And he himself offers no defence. Shows no remorse. And though we have begged and pleaded for him to share what he knows, he maintains a deadly silence.” At this, the executioner stepped forward and thrust a Hessian sack over Connors head. “If the man will not explain himself - if he will not confess and atone - what other option is there but this? He sought to send us into the arms of the enemy. Thus we are compelled by justice to send him from this world. May God have mercy on his soul.“ And now he was finished, and I looked around, trying to spot more of Achilles’s men. If it was a rescue mission, then now was the time, surely? But where were they? What the hell were they planning? A bowman. They had to be using a bowman. It wasn’t ideal: an arrow wouldn’t sever the rope completely, the best rescuers could hope for was that it would part the fibre enough for Connors weight to snap it. But it was the most accurate. It could be deployed from… Far away. I swung about to check the buildings behind me. Sure enough, at the spot I would’ve chosen was a Bowman, standing at a tall casement window. As I watched, he drew back the bow string and squinted along the line of the arrow. Then, just as the trap door snapped open and Connors body dropped, he fired. The arrow streaked above us, though I was the only one aware of it, and I whipped my gaze over the platform in time to see it slice the rope and weaken it - of course - but not enough to cut it. I risked being seen and discovered, but I did what I did anyway, on impulse, on instinct. I snatched my dagger from within my robes, and I threw it, watched as it sailed through the air and thanked God as it sliced into the Rope and finished the job. As Connor’s writhing and thank God - still very much alive body drops through the trap door, a gasp went up around me. For a moment I felt myself with about an arms width of space all around as the crowd recoiled from me in shock. At the same time I caught sight of Achilles ducking down into the gallows pit where Connors body had fallen. Then I was fighting to escape as the shocked lull was replaced by a vengeful roar, kicks and punches were aimed my way and guards began shouldering their way through the throng towards me. I’m engaged the blade and cut one or two of the sightseers -enough to draw blood and give other attackers pause for thought. More timid now, they at last made space around me. I dashed out of the square and back to my horse, the catcalls of the angry crowd ringing in my ears. - I mean ya’lll if you haven’t read any of these books I highly suggest you do cause they’re just pure art. Haytham’s death is also greatly different in the book; much more heartfelt and not as cold. Sorry if some of the wording is wrong or doesn’t make sense as I typed it all out by hand 🤣
That's incredible. Thanks for sharing. It's interesting to think that had Charles Lee not burned down Connor's village when he was a child and instilled the ideals of vengeance and freedom to the boy, he might have had the chance to rekindle with his father, perhaps even as a Templar.
Forsaken and Unity are the best of them and can stand on their own as good books without fan-bonus. Secret Crusade and Underworld are amazing books too
Thank you so much for sharing. If you could just answer three of my questions I would be very grateful dude 1. What was Connor’s opinion on haytham? 2. Did Connor regret killing haytham? Thank you also if you can answer my question!
Looking back now, they unironically made Haytham the best Templar in the franchise. Every scene he's in is just pure gold. He knows what he is and what his goals are, but still has more to him like a love for natives and even love for his son, who turns out to be an Assassin. The sworn enemies of the Templars. Even faced with the choice of betraying the Templars and helping his son, or killing Connor to keep Lee safe, the madman chose option C and let his son kill him (Haytham had his hidden blade on Connor's throat but never used it. Can't tell me that wasn't deliberate). Love Haytham and I wish there were more like him
7:20 Technically Connor isn't wrong on that albeit unknowingly. For when Haytham learned that Reginald Birch ordered an attack on the Kenway Manor, Haytham was so pissed that he wanted revenge, of course his half sister managed to kill Birch with Haytham's sword. After that, Haytham doubled down on his Templar beliefs, so much so that he vented his frustrations on Benjamin Church while punishing him. Haytham could have been a perfect Templar model, but his thoughts on being betrayed by Birch consumed him which led to his downfall courtesy of Connor. Juhani Otsu Berg explained as such in his audio blogs in AC Rogue.

@@AstarionWifey He doesn't need to remember Edward to know about his legacy, which he did in Rogue. Haytham looked distastefully on his father's Pirate past and Assassin ideals, but Haytham did avenge him nonetheless by killing Birch. Yeah he said something like "I guess our nation will never be safe" after killing his friend.
He probably should have fought both in the end. Probably would have resulted in the same way but at least he wouldnt be fighting for a group that would kill his people.

For anyone interested, here are some of my favourite passages from the book, more specifically the execution scene (which doesn’t involve Haytham in the game.) And if you read it, you’ll see why I love it so:
Connor, with his hands bound in front of him, shot a look of hatred at Thomas and, once again, I marvelled at how much of his mother was to be found in those features.
“The same cannot be said for you.”
- A paragraph or so later -
“Brothers, sisters, fellow patriots,” began Charles, and an impatient hush descended over the crowd.
“Several days ago we learnt of a scheme vile, so dastardly that even repeating it now disturbs my being. The man before you plotted to murder our much beloved general.”
The crowd gasped
“Indeed,“ roared Charles, warming to his theme.
May God have mercy on his soul.“
And now he was finished, and I looked around, trying to spot more of Achilles’s men.

That's incredible. Thanks for sharing. It's interesting to think that had Charles Lee not burned down Connor's village when he was a child and instilled the ideals of vengeance and freedom to the boy, he might have had the chance to rekindle with his father, perhaps even as a Templar.
