@ The Ben & Banjo Show, same here, this channel just showed up on my screen today July 27. So informative I could not believe it . He is the professor in all the plant world. Love it already.
100s and 1000s youtube channels regarding plants out there and you are the best and the most informative one . Keep up the good work , your videos are daily doses of happiness.
I’m Indonesian who lives in Switzerland . UA-cam recommanded me your video few weeks back. Am not mad at all, cos now I almost watching all your videos. Please do more videos nursuries tour and shopping plant.. It’s so addicting. Congrats Sean! Your Channel took off.
I just wanted to add that another type of water is well water. Water from the ground, so if you have access to this, do give it a try in watering your plants. Very informative! Thank you
! That's why you're able to spray your plants down and use it straight out of the hose or the spigot you have some of the best water if you have well water
I watched your video from our TV where I am not signed in.. so, I am writing this comment from my phone just to say amazing video!! Very very helpful, love the analogy!! Keep it up! Love love love,,,,,
Woowww... what an enlightenment video for watering 101 !!! I did kill few plant, almost killed it but survive to rescue them ... Thank you sean... 👍🏻 Btw, maybe someday you can have an exhibition of your plants collection in Jakarta... definitely will come in !

Rambling? No way! You were spot on with all of your great information covering almost every basic level of plant care. I just found your channel yesterday, and have thoroughly sunk into your very relaxing and calming presence, and your grounded explanations. Thanks so much!!!
You put out the most informative videos and content on UA-cam in my opinion. So appreciative of your channel and the time you put into us. Thank you for helping me be a better plant parent!😊
You are great. As some others have, I stumbled across your videos. I am in Western Australia. I've never commented on any posts I've watched before but I'd like to encourage you to keep posting. You seem like you really have such good knowledge of plants, I'm very impressed. I have very little and rely on what I see here to help me with my indoor plant journey. Appreciate the time and effort you take to help us lookers and learners 👍
I feel the best water to use to for your plants ,especially your potted ones is Water from your fish tank or tank filter washing( collect the poop water) ,fish pond ,water lily pond (with fishes) . This s because the waters contain much nitrates from fish poop.Nitrates are plant fertilisers, organic and naturally dissolved for easy plant intake.Pity just do not have enough to water the whole garden i just came across your videos and must say they are excellent and wonderful.Keep it up!
ohhhhhh love love love with your explanation, God bring me to your channel .......for learn more and to love my plants, keep make a good contents ......semangattttttttt
love your explanation. easy to understand as always. Im slowly replacing my plastic pots to teracotta pots. it is easier to water it. plus i love how the pots is moist whenever i overwater. my plants love it. i am learning not to be dependent to my moist meter. i hate the holes when it poke the soil. the only small problem is its is a bit hard to repot when it is rootbound to the pot. i simply smashed the pot and smashed it further into pieces. i mixed it into my soil mix. nice to reuse it and it is good for relieving stress😅
You’re the most likable plant expert of UA-cam! This video is so informative. First time that the difference between browning from overwatering and underwatering was explained in a such a clear way. Thanks also for the tip about leaving a plant in a brighter area after watering. My calatheas’ leaves furl even with a soft 7am light (in Switzerland) so I had to move them to a darker corner, but now I know that I should taken them to a brighter area on their watering day. Thank you so much for all these precious pieces of advice.
Wowww thank you for writing in to let me know that. Calatheas do like low to medium light. Dont forget to give them good air flow especially on watering day. They can rot easily
Thank you so much! I have so much joy out of making these videos and sharing my experience. A soil video is uploading at the moment and it is out of this world! So do check that out soon 😉
@@onlyplants thats true, many plant people in Asia have amazing instagram acc, but i only found one yt channel that is amazing n very informative which is yours. Hahahahaha
I'm 71 years old and I've never felt the need to buy a moisture probe. I've always just used my finger or judge by the weight of the pot whether there was a lot of water in it or not. I always worried about if I had a moisture meter and I tried to test the moisture and a plant like a spider plant that has thick roots that I would damage the root system by sticking up probe down in once a week I guess it would be fine for plants with fine Roots like Ferns and things like that but pothos and philodendron have kind of thick Roots also and I just think it does a lot of damage to the roots especially if you're doing it all the time like I've seen some people on UA-cam that are beginning plant people. But you are right if you're new to plants and you're not sure about watering it would probably be a good thing to have but just be careful what plants you keep sticking that into like your canna lily if you stick it in through the rhizome the thick rhizome bulb like part of it or a caladium that has bulbs that's not such a good idea unless you put it between those thick rhizomes or bulbs. I know that's common sense but a lot of people don't have common sense anymore it seems like
Thank youu. I think moisture meters are great for beginners to learn about soil moisture. I’ve stopped using moisture meters for a while now because they will disturb the roots.
Very good and detailed! With cacti and succulents you want to water once or twice a month and every other watering with fertilizer made for cacti and succulents. Also don't water them in your winter months as they go dormant then! Also well draining soil for them too. You have some lovely plants have a good day!

i love your channel so much. i think the most interesting thing is to see the difference in how plant people like you grow houseplants in indonesia. my country's climate is similar to yours so i'm enjoying all this relatable information. your video quality is amazing all around (you, your filming & the information you provide). loving this channel!
I love ❤️ the way you explain all the details. You are very kind and sweet. Thank you so much 😊 I believe besides that you are very accurate with the information. Thanks Again!!
This is a great video, Sean. What people are dying for is someone who is serious but has a good sense of humor (love those unspoken quips on screen) and is personable. That's you! Congratulations on your increasing subscribers. I see you comment on almost every single comment that is made. Get ready for a full time job doing just that. Of course, it is kind of you and everyone really appreciates knowing that you have actually read the comment. I laugh at each video because of the difference in our growing zones especially regarding humidity. Today it is will be a high of 38C, humidity is higher than usual as this is the "monsoon" (LOL!!) so it is 40%. Normally, we have 10-15% humidity and live in AC 6 months a year. UGH!. Ordinarily, I try to grow plants that are less dependent onl;ambient humidity but now I've bought some that might require a humidifier. That's your fault!!! Looking forward to more excellent videos from you. Watch out Summer Rayne Oakes! LOL!
I’m such a fan! I keep finding awesome plant pearls in your past videos 💚 so glad I stumbled on your channel! Has really helped inspire my plant obsession
Hello again Sean! I like that on your channel you go in depth in information when it IS needed. I never knew all these aspects of watering my plants!! I see changes I need to make now. So many skip over the details because it might not be exciting but it is a part of the plants life cycle!! thanks for opening my eyes and I have fallen in love with my plants all over now,,
A lot of people give up having houseplants because they cannot figure out watering. More than half of all houseplants troubleshooting questions on the internet is related to improper watering. I hope to help with that 🥰
I love all your humble knowledge about plants. All the trial and errors... finally, someone who understands Indonesian weathers. Keep posting and pouring us with your knowledge please :) #newplantmama
Did a great job on talking about watering. I do get my idoor and seeds watered but i sleep late so between 10am and noon i water things like my outdoor container of tomato or my small succs. I have weird continers like 3 plastic bikes with side car i got filled with candy 1 easter i found a half died kalachoe at lowes stuck the 3 hopeful stems 1 in each and they have doubled in size this spring.. you see on my budget you use and pail or butter tub or plastic jar. I use pop bottles and to go side cups with covers. I may not have beautifful pots but they do get noticed. I also re--use nursery pots and if a plant comes with a cover pot or terra cotta all the better. Dollor store hanging pots work great for my dangling plants.
! I have been buying water in 2 and 1/2 gallon plastic containers that have a spigot on it. So you can put it in the fridge or on the counter top and have access to the water without having to pour it. They're huge plastic containers and I'm thinking while they take up a lot of room in the trash and I bought some tomato plants I couldn't get in the ground. So I cut the top off of these plastic containers put potting soil and it have pot soil half peat moss osmocote and some soil moist crystals that absorb 50 times their weight in water. I open the spicket up so the water can drain out and put a tomato plant in each one. Since they're above ground The Roots get very warm quickly versus the cold ground. I'm anxious to see how my recycled water containers are doing they hold about the same amount of soil as water I guess two and a half quarts or gallons I mean
All the things that I wanted to know 🙈, regardless about to finish all your vlogs, it just so soothing for mind and soul. Been learning a lot about plant baby. ❤️
I'm really appreciating your channel and I've subscribed! I've killed many plants in the past but I really want to start with one or two indoor plants and hopefully can keep it/them alive. This channel is very helpful and informative. It's exactly what I'm looking for and you make it fun.
Hello friend. You touched on some key factors. When asking others for plant advice not everyone uses same methods and/or types of soil. Environment also plays a big role (tropical vs cold climates). By the way, I collect succulents. Wishing many blessings with your channel. Great video. 🌵
Wow that's a fabulous video and great class ( sure your science teachers would be proud of you), I totally love all your plants and your planters are beautiful too, great tips and great info, keep it up Shawn 👍 you may be new UA-camr but you surely have great knowledge about them, well done👏👏👌👌
Thank you so much very helpful for me ....so informative and easy to follow....very sincere as well thanks have a great day....your baby’s look healthy and happy..
When you mentioned the different kinds of water many of us who live in humid areas and have below the ground living space like a family room in our basement or a workshop in the basement and my own home I have two bedrooms downstairs a workroom and a family room that's 56 ft long and we have dehumidifiers running in it. That also is water that's condensed out of the atmosphere just like the air conditioner does and that water is great for plants. The only thing you have to be careful of is to make sure the drip pans get cleaned out periodically so there's nothing slimy growing in it. Distilled water and my area in the United States is important to have for certain plants if you don't have air conditioning water or water from a dehumidifier or Rainwater plants like calatheas or spider plants and there are others but those are the first two that come to mind. We put fluoride in our water which is really stupid because it's a poison and it's supposed to help prevent cavities in children not an adult's but there's still lots of children with bad teeth so it isn't doing any good. The aluminum industry used to pay millions to get rid of it cuz it was a toxic substance until some genius decided it was good for your teeth developing teeth in children. Before it was used as rat poison or an insecticide. People wonder why their pet dogs and cats get cancer well maybe it's because of the fluoride. Chlorine is a necessary thing to use to kill any bacteria that's in the water but it depends on what type of chlorine or chloride is used in the water chlorine at cell for evaporate but some of the other derivatives of that that are there to kill the bugs and the bacteria in the water do not evaporate overnight. And minerals never evaporate. Rain water is so good for plants because all the lightning that's up there in the atmosphere puts nitrogen in the Rainwater. Any calcium that's in the water you're using to water your plants we can absorb that calcium because of the acid in our stomachs but plants cannot absorb that calcium. Plants growing in the rainforest like an orchid up in a tree or a hoya growing in a tree get calcium because of the root of the tree takes that nutrient up chew the leaves and into the bark and tissue of the plant and then when it rains that excess comes down and is absorbed by The Roots. Orchids and I'm wondering if it also is the same for Hoyas but anyhow orchids are calcium Hogs. They need calcium to produce new growth. The reason why I plant a lot of times losses and older leaf is because it needs certain nutrients that we are or nature is not giving the plant to produce a new Leaf. So it basically eats its oldest leaf to grow the newest one. And what I mean by that is it recycles nitrogen phosphorus potassium and magnesium from the older leaf and gives it to the new Leaf. But calcium cannot be moved from one leaf to another so that's why sometimes plants don't grow it all because calcium is needed to move things from one part of the plant to the other if you really want to learn from someone who can explain it very well there is a channel on UA-cam called Rick's orchids. Unfortunately Rick is very ill with Parkinson's and he hasn't produced the video in over a year but he explains things so much like you do. He makes his own drawings and you were talking about in one of your videos about what you call an African plant that had fuzzy leaves. He originally started his UA-cam channel with African Violets they're called and how to grow them and how you can grow a new plant from a leaf Etc. Then he branched out and to Growing orchids all kinds of orchids and he grows his orchids in various types of rocks River Rocks Pebbles volcanic rock. I think you would enjoy his channel. And he explains how it's mobile nutrients in Mobile nutrients he's just a great guy and a big loss to the Plant World. I've learned a lot from him about mobile and immobile nutrients and why an orchid and that relates to any other plant what he talks about. He explains why magnesium is important why phosphorus why nitrogen etc etc is important. He also explained just like you explained about water here that a plant can't quit taking up water it doesn't have an off-and-on switch and he explained I believe it's phosphorus and potassium that orchids and maybe other plants I don't know can't stop taking up those two nutrients because they feel like they need them but they have no place to store them. But anyhow go to Rick's orchids on UA-cam you will love his videos. He also talks about foliar feeding I'm about the stoma in the leaf being opened and some orchids it's open during the day and another orchids that's opened at night but he likes to do foliar feedings. And this is an excellent video full of information about why you can't tell a person all this plant needs water twice a week and this one only needs water once a week all of the things you talked about her so very very true!!!
Wowww very detailed information here! I just subscribed to his channel. Coincidentally Im trying to get into orchids as they are a wonderful specimen! Thanks again for writing in!
I've had Calathea Ornata for 2 weeks now. I know it's too short time to know, but I notice it becomes 'lazy' when it needs water, like the leaves don't go up at night and open up at day as fast as usual. I put it in my bedroom, so I know lol. It doesn't like bright light either. When the place is too bright, its leaves will curl up. I changed its spot three times and now it finally found its favorite spot above my cupboard where I can't even see it. Sigh... It's a diva plant for sure, I can confirm. But, seeing how it acts is very interesting. Just like how people have different personalities, plants do too.
Thank you for all your good tips you have lots of beautiful plants but I only have 3 house plants and 2 Christmas cactus. Would love to have more but building up my backyard with lots of flowers and milkweed.
This is probably the most thorough and easy to follow information on plant watering that I've seen. You didn't overcomplicate the process and showed a variety of plants with their watering needs. I actually watched it twice (with the ads!) because it was that good.
Incredible, wish I had found this sooner before I basically killed my diffenbachia through overwatering and putting it in full light...what a shame! Also would you be able to either clarify or even make a full video on how to properly bottom water (like how long to leave it sitting in the water for - 1-15 minutes, an hour, etc.) and how often (just the same as normal watering, say every 2-5 days depending on the plant type and conditions)? That'd be very helpful!
Hello, with bottom watering its different depending on water level, pot size, potting mix type used. It is best to bottom water just so only the bottom 3/4 of the pot is wet.
I don’t know how I stumbled upon this channel, but it instantly has become my favorite plant channel. I’m hooked.
Whoa thank youuu. I loved making content and sharing what I know too.

A lot of people give up having houseplants because they cannot figure out watering. More than half of all houseplants troubleshooting questions on the internet is related to improper watering. I hope to help with that 🥰
Thanks for sharing this super informative video. You are my new favorite plant youtuber. You took the plant community by storm. Congrats.
Whoaa thank you so much! It brings me joy to share knowledge and be connected to you guys.
I love all your humble knowledge about plants. All the trial and errors... finally, someone who understands Indonesian weathers. Keep posting and pouring us with your knowledge please :) #newplantmama

Thank you! ❤️❤️
Thank you for your engaging teaching video. I have learned so much from your sharing.
You’re welcome 🤓🙏🏽
Looking forward to more plant content! Thank you!
Thank you. I post twice a week so Ill see you in our next videos hopefully 🙌🏻

Hello friend. You touched on some key factors. When asking others for plant advice not everyone uses same methods and/or types of soil. Environment also plays a big role (tropical vs cold climates). By the way, I collect succulents. Wishing many blessings with your channel. Great video. 🌵
Hats off to you who can keep succulents alive. Haha I have a lot of learning to do in that area..
@@onlyplants Trust me... It's been trial and error. I live in an apartment... very challenging.. Good luck to us both.. 😁

Thank youuuu 😅
Ornata will give you super bright pink foliage when you give them low light. Also they need pretty good air circulation :)
@@onlyplants nice tip, thanks! Another trait to know that it's doing fine or not. #noted
Wow! Your home is beautiful 😍 That lake in the background is gorgeous 😍. I’m here for plants 🌱 but wouldn’t mind a lil home tour 😉.
Haha thank you.
Thank you for all your good tips you have lots of beautiful plants but I only have 3 house plants and 2 Christmas cactus. Would love to have more but building up my backyard with lots of flowers and milkweed.
You should have as many plants as you are comfortable with. Sometimes looking at others plants bring us as much joy too!

Nice thanks for writing in!
This is probably the most thorough and easy to follow information on plant watering that I've seen. You didn't overcomplicate the process and showed a variety of plants with their watering needs. I actually watched it twice (with the ads!) because it was that good.
Wowww thank you! This is so encouraging
You're my new favorite plant guy here on UA-cam. Very informative videos, I'm binge watching now. 😁

Thank you 🤓
Love your teachings love you!

Information overload. I've learned a lot, Shawn.
Haha thank you. Practice with conditions in your space because it is unique.
I will. ❤️
I so agree with the usage of distilled water :)) But you do you!
🐸🙏🏽🐸
Me too stumbled here and it's my favorite channel!
Thank you so much 😌❤️
Gosh this channel is doing phenomenal, it was at 800 subscribers when I joined just last week.

I love your videos!!! This might be a silly question but can you tell me if rain water loses it’s nutrients if it is set aside over time?
I have a feeling they do
