Loved this, you make an amazing teacher and your passion for plants shines in every video. You’ve quickly become one of my favorite plant channels! 🌿🌱🌵🙌😍
This has got to be one of the best videos on plant care, not only is it is so well-thought of and so informative talking about soil (which many others rarely touch on when they make videos about plants) but it also gives a very good perspective on sustainability that we should all consider in our buying habits! this is really, very cool - ill definitely recommend this video to my friends, lets be honest, it deserves so much more views. also, i think your personality makes it authentic and therefore far more interesting - please do not change anything. well done! i’m totally a subscriber and fan now! cheers

The more I watch of your videos, the more I start to feel like you're my plant soulmate. Lol Seriously, your approach to gardening is exactly like mine- I play it by ear but with the help of stock knowledge, research, and common sense- like putting a layer of moss for added moisture. I also love gardening and mixing media with my bare hands, recycling plastic and glass bottles as rooting vessels, and am very picky with my containers (terra cotta vs plastic). And oh, yes, I also digress. A lot. 😄

I'm glad you mentioned how unsustainable some peat moss collection is. I live in scotland where our peat bogs are supposed to play a crucial role in water distribution but since they have been decimated when it rains heavily we're experiencing more extreme flooding partly because it runs off land instead of soaking into it because of environmental destruction such as this. This year my house got flooded for the first time and i fear it will only get worse.
Its strange that peat moss manufacturers are swearing by sustainability the same way wood loggers are claiming the same. Our natural instinct tells us those things takes thousands of years to form, and we cant put it back there once harvested... a lot of wildlife require them to live.
I just subscribed to your channel It looks joyful to the end, and most importantly, I see a fondness for plants, just like you.Happiness comes from your smile and me when you take care of these plants.
The pine bark actually has some lignine in it, which gives the roots a kick start/ adds the power to the roots. So you are right, the plants like it 😊 (greetings from Finland ❤)
I love how you instinctively know what your plants need. I'd say it's a gift! I never knew that there is more to growing plants. I really am impressed with the content you put out. It's very informative ans explains a lot of things I am confused about. I'm even surprised how many other natural resources readily available to me can be used as a medium for airoids. Thank you so much!🥰👏👏
I haven’t watched a 46-min video here on UA-cam because I easily get bored. But this, one oh my god I really enjoyed every bit of it! Thank you Sean for this very informative video! I have killed so many plants in my life so hopefully It won’t happen again 😅
OMG, I learned so very much on potting mixes from this video! Mahalo Sean, for explaining in depth about what each ingredients is and what it does for the plant, which is most confusing to me! However, after watching this video, I have a much better understanding of potting soils!
I've been watching your videos and I gotta say, I love your content, your attention to detail, and your clinically precise grammar, insisting on correcting yourself on aspects like parallelism and even thought organization (always conscious when you digress, haha). Being a plant enthusiast, a science buff, and a grammar nazi, I find this so gratifying to watch! Hahaha! Subbed!
Thank you for the biggest laugh I have had in these months of being shut in. When you said something like "I love to imagine my fingers are roots" I laughed out loud and my "Gia" came over to see what was happening. Excellent video, full of funny comments but also FULL OF GREAT INFORMATION for anyone, not just beginning plant parents. Again, those who are not in Southeast Asia might not have access to many of the great things you have for your soil mixes but the concept is the same. I think a lot of folks in my area simply go with what is generally available and that might be the problem with houseplant mortality rates. Now, I think I'll be more adventurous in creating my own mixes. YES, let's use more sustainable medium! Good point. Really appreciate your comments in this vein. Gia, the variegated canine companion is just going her job. Dogs eat, poop, sleep, snuggle with us and bark. I think barking is in their job description. LOL! Thanks Sean!
Thank you for useful information. Anyway in Thailand, we mostly soak coco chip/peat in water for 1-2 nights before using in order to reduce "Tannin" that makes plants' root stop growing. We believe..
love to put your long videos on in the background, you're so positive and funny and have changed my attitude towards plant care! dying to know what the beauty is at 17:00?
This was very good , to the point info Sean . Many new hobbyists don’t realize these factors when they acquire new plants and wonder they’re not doing well. I had haworthias inside under good light, but they hadn’t changed any in a year /: I put them outside where they get warm sunlight and rain, and they instantly responded ! They were probably in a dormant state inside my cool dark apartment and the sun just woke them up . Tweaking the growing environment can make Big changes👍
I’ve watched so many plant video, most of them are telling how to care plants in general, but thisssss!! I want this!! I need this!! Core basic knowledge, i’m glad i find this video. And what make me proud this came from an Indonesian. Almost 1hour video & i didn’t skip a second 😃
I love how informative you are. So real which makes it very enjoyable to watch you. I would love to sit in your garden, have tea and let you talk! Im up to 106 plants right now. My biggest struggles are philodendrons. I’ll be watching your vids for help on those. Thank you!
Thank you😊💖you explained everything in detail. Now i finally understand the combination. Some youtuber just say the percentage of the stuff they used. Seeing u mix is very helpful. It's like peeking over the teacher's shoulders. Yep i love how you eyeball everything and feel using your hand. Now i think ill have more confidence to grow more variation and i hv to repot my plants as now i know the issues. Cant believe i ddnt discover ur channel sooner. now seeing at my premix soil i guess i need to throw a bunch of stuff in to fix it. Thanks
Its better to understand the function of each ingredients because availability, environment, and watering habits vary from person to person. One persons recipe may not work well with others. So I figured its best to just get the theory down and then everyone can make informed decisions on what to mix. And just have fun with it! Plants are adaptable!
Wow! So grateful for this video, for a very detailed demonstration on various media for different kind of plants! A day before yesterday, I really enjoyed your hoya tour. On the following day I even dreamt of giving hoya plants to my friend who has just started to collect indoor plants ♡♡♡😊😁😁 I feel so envious because I could not have as many plant as I want due to seasonal reason. Korea has a very cold winter. There is only few plants that survive in winter. That is why most of my collectiion is indoor. I need to have a marathon viewing of your previous videos. More power!
Akhirnya nemu juga yg jelasin berbagai macam media tanam dengan sangat jelas dan gampang dimengerti, sangat sangat membantu, makasih, tetep semangat buat bagi2 ilmunya ya

😭 ur video is so informative... I just repotted my caladium Thai beauty and removed earthworms in them.. I think they helped to remove fungus and dirt from roots because when I repotted the Thai beauty the roots started to rot so quickly and now its in a really small pot.. I hope they're happier in it.
Caladiums dont do so well with repotting, they may die back and grow dormant. But do not throw the pot/root away when that happens. Water infrequently until new growth emerge again.
@@onlyplants oh wow I didn't know caladiums dont do well with repotting... I'll try not to repot them unless needed next time!! but thank you for ur tips!
Best soil video ever! It’s interesting to see how soils change based on local price. Here in the US, orchid bark is pretty inexpensive, but burnt rice hulls is hard to find. I use horticultural charcoal instead.
