@@ABC_DEF I get that he fell asleep. I understand that loss of life happened. A lot of accidents happen because people fall asleep. I imagine in places where regulations aren't as good as we have here it can be even more body stressing. Idk if he forgot or not, I just know that falling asleep is not always voluntary. And maybe he didn't forget. Either way- people have perished, and that is very difficult to absorb. Love still reigns. Peace and blessings! @@alenabrown4249 The pilot was rushing to land instead of taking the safer option which was to "go around" -- meaning skip the landing he was planning, circle and get the plane in a better place and then land (which would have taken longer). He took the shorter, risker option instead. The implication of that comment was that pilots sometimes make risky decisions when they shouldn't, because it isn't just their lives at risk... they have passengers. They should always take the safer option. They weren't implying that he literally forgot he had passengers.
BTW, it makes no difference in the responsibility if you have 1 human behind, or 300. The responsibility is the same. It’s same as pregnant, or dead. One cannot become „more pregnant“ or „more dead“. As a pilot you are responsible. That’s it. One can forget that, or one can be less aware of that. But the responsibility remains.
I’ve only experienced one “go around” in all of my years flying as a passenger. At the time I didn’t think anything of it, but after watching enough of these videos I feel like I should have hugged and thanked the crew for their good judgement as I was safely stepping off the plane.
I experienced go around after touching the runway in a Kingfisher airlines flight in Hyderabad airport back in 2011. That was my last flight, after that I never got into a plane, I always travel by my car.
Maybe we should gain points for calling for a go-around when there is any problems that don't let everything line up JUST RIGHT. We can call it the Goldilocks credit!
You really feel for the innocent victims and their families that have no control or idea what's going on in some of these accidents. Or to realize at the last moment that death is imminent.

CPT would have his career terminated right after he safely jerked the airplane went around then landed that plane Even the PILOT was wrong thing did not work that way in the air
It’s so simple. Introduce a rule that says that a plane should always go around if either pilot calls it. Both have to agree on a landing , any discord and you go around. Period. That rule obviously doesn’t exist. Why?
Well, it actually exists in modern airlines, but i guess in India, they are conservative to hierarchical structures, which means the captains word is LAW i guess...
than they should get rid of the captain and first officer statuses right ? being captain presumes that his word overrides the FO but if the FO can order the captain around than what’s the point of being captain
Brian M It’s the captains job to persuade the FO that it’s safe to land , if he can’t do that then it’s not safe to land. Nobody is talking about anyone “ ordering people around” . Instead of overruling his FO , a good Captain should seriously ask himself why his FO is not happy about the landing. The FO should be there as a safeguard against errors. If not then why is he there? Going around is not a disaster. Crashing is. It’s like the golden rule in driving or pulling out at a junction. “ If in doubt don’t “
I've watched enough of these to sense some of these captains have big egos and I wouldn't be surprised if a captain will still try to land even after an F/O disagrees.
So I am actually giving my life in hands of a complete stranger every time I board a flight and that stranger could be an arrogant lunatic or even suicidal.
@A Frustrated Gamer Wait, what was that last one? Also don't forget the Three Idiots from Saudi delaying emergency procedure (i.e. landing and evacuating) when the plane was on fire.
That the Autopilot system did"nt pressurize the cabin in that Helios flight in 2005 when flying at 28,000 feet because a technichian forgot to flip an external switch back to idle after a test so everybody passed out was also very preventable
saudi flight 163 is the most preventable accident, all passengers and crews initially survived but the pilots delayed the evacuation, causing all to die due to smoke inhalation
Its amazing how the mistake of 1 person can cost so many their lives. Going around would have cost them a few extra minutes but they would all be alive, but because the pilot thought "he could do it" no doubt he isn't among the 8 surviving people. This is heartbreaking and the co-pilot tried his best to avoid a disaster.
There’s a sign on the highway not too far from that airport…..”Better to be Mr. Late than Late Mr.” Certainly applies to this flight. What a tragedy. I landed there several times, decades ago, and it was always jarring to see the plane go from blazing fast to standstill in seemingly about 10 seconds time. An experience unlike any other landing.

It happened bcz of pilot's negligence if he would have listened to the control tower all those people woyld have survive. So what i m trying to say is that it all depends on ur pilots
Not when the pilot uses reverse thrust and then tries to take off again. The saddest part is that if he had continued the reverse thrust, the aircraft may have been damaged, but a lot of lives would have been saved.

Not a science student, nor a frequent flier, but when this was mentioned that the pitch was way higher than usual, it simply occured that no big deal, they can 'go around' and bring it to the apt height, but the Great Captain with thousands of flying hours and 16 landing experience on the same runway, couldn't agree for a simple procedure... I have seen a lot of crash and flight failure videos, but this had the most stupid reason of all. RIP the poor souls and the most I feel sorry for the First Officer. Peace to all.
An arrogance to refuse to level the landing gear height by going around by an adjustment could have saved all the travellers. But the destiny of any one the passengers a telepathic quantum link of mind the Captain pilot with uncontrollable his mind.An enigmatic Telepathic link even Einstein refused to believe.
WHAT??? GTFO with your hocus pocus and mumbo jumbo bullshit...this is the science of aviation. Its altitude (height) that is what you were meaning to say, not pitch...pitch is the angle representing a transverse (wingtip to wingtip) axis. Nose up or down in normal speak.
No. The most stupid reason was a child (15 yo) at the control of Airbus A310 in Russian Aeroflot line while travelling to Hong Kong. This UA-camr has this case here
So you have a well functioning airplane, perfect weather conditions, enough fuel, approaching on schedule, all perfect conditions for one more routine flight, except jerk captain who thinks that he is above laws of physics. So stupid way to die. I am really sorry for all innocent people who died for no reason....
Airbus is better than Boeing for that. With an Airbus the pilot wouldn't have been able to do that because the computer limits the dangerous maneuvers.
"airbus is better than Boeing for that.................." Etc etc. Except, one ended up in a forrest after having done a similar action to "Show off"................... Must i present a link? Another one crashed, because the other pilot did not know the other pilot was PULLING on the Joystick. And Boeing, they have yokes which clearly indicate what the other one is doing. Since they is connected. Another airbus thought it was doing the right thing. However some sensors were frozen. That accident wouldnt have happened if it was a Boeing. Computers. Invented to solve problems which we didnt have before they were invented. And, the more they take over, the more problems we will have to face. Now a days we have automatic braking in cars. And traction control. And all kinds of that shit. Imagine a slippery road, a curve...................... You have acc.................. so the vehicle will slow down when it detects an obstacle................. In a curve, wet roads and slippery conditions......................... "Hi there, mr Tree. Say: Why couldnt you move a little so i would have passed you?" Im sorry, but when a pilot knows how to fly, and knows his aircraft............... That is much better in my opinion. Take cars and safetygear onboard of cars. Belts, airbags. People think they drive a tank. So they act like it. Driving like crazy. Head on collision, each going 50 mph.................... Both engines end up in the trunk of the other car............ And still people think belts and airbags is going to protect them from such. So they drive like it. The more we invent to "feel safe", the illusion which we create for ourselves, the more we will be in danger.
Excellent post, bertjesklotipino. I've watched so many of these videos where the pilots were made complacent with too much technology that I now use an acronym, FTFPYI (Fly the F**king Plane You Idiot). This pilot thought "SFP" meant his plane would do anything, until he found out the hard way that it wouldn't. We're already seeing the early stages of over-reliance on computers in cars with people dying in Tesla self-driving cars, or the pedestrian killed by the Uber experimental self-driving car.
M T, another reason why i say: Boeing or im not going. Because of too much automation in those Airbuses. When Billy Gates launched one of his Windows versions he was confronted with the blue screen and laughed. I wonder what a pilot will do in the air when he or she is confronted with "the blue screen of death".
Mr M T......... I can not agree, sorry. The Air Singapore accident which you talk about is indeed another example of how people may make mistakes. Sure. It would however have happened with both planes, airbus or boeing. I agree to the rest of what you have said, completely. But there is just one small thing that i can not agree with. And that is that you think we should stop kidding ourselves and move ASAP to full automation. Computers have been invented to solve problems which we DID NOT HAVE before these computers were invented. IF in a computer something breaks down, no way of recovery. You can ofcourse build in safety stuff, redundancy and what not................. But when the device thinks there is a problem, there is a problem. And there wont be any way to land it IF we were to be fooled into thinking automation is the answer. We as people are being restricted too much. We may not use our skills. And that is one of the biggest problems. A skilled pilot may also crash, ofcourse. May make a mistake, ofcourse. BUT: Working together, the chances have been reduced to the absolute minimum in my opinion. The plane however needs to be designed that they CAN work together. The test flight of an airbus went wrong, because some sensor was frozen or something like that. THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. The computer should ALWAYS have an OFF button. But thats just my opinion. Computers only solve problems which we did not have before these fucked up machines were invented. Sure, they make things easier from time to time. And bla bla bla. But just watch what will happen if one day all this shit just stopped functioning................. with an EMP or whatever. Or that the Internet stops functioning for a month. Stores will be empty, everything will be fucked up, because we as humanbeings have become too stupid to not be able to work without these godforsaken pieces of shit. But, thats just an opinion, compadre.
In this case foresure, the F/O could of landed the plane and the captain could of had a good night sleep in a motel bed ,but it is always easier to say after the fact, just wish sometimes the arrogance between captains and F/O, stop or F/O grow some balls and think of the safety if their cargo take control of the situation
What's even more sad? The investigation also found that had aggressive use of reverse thrust and maximum manual braking been used the aircraft would have stopped within the paved overrun area of the runway. Furthermore, Boeing standard procedures state that reverse thrust should not be cancelled in an attempt to go around. In other words, once reverse thrust is activated stay committed to the landing by whatever means necessary. A sad revelation in the investigation was that snoring was actually heard on the CVR for the first and only time in history. If there was ever a cause for a mutiny, this was it.
abc agreed but who knows , give. What we e learned of the pilots arrogance , what instructions he pilot gave to the copilot before take off - I.e. dont wake me h TIL we descend for airport etc. Sad waste of life
I had an experience at DXB when EK had to cancel touch-down & go-around at just about 100 feet from ground. I felt very bad then, as I had a connecting flight to catch. I profusely thank those pilots now.
Every First Officer's nightmare; your captain won't acknowledge a mistake and pride prevents him from correcting. Interestingly, the FO had more experience at this airport according to the video yet the captain was requested to land.
I believe the captain did have time to; correct his co piolet's mistake of flying too high and then land this plane safely on a shorter distance. These planes do have an incredible stopping distance, once landed full brakes on they can stop very abruptly. An experienced piolet would never sleep on decent in this terrain with his experience, things don't add up and I don't believe this was the outcome on all aspects, it deserved.
pilots are taught in training that if the captain is doing something that jeopardizes the safety of the aircraft, the first officer can seize control of the aircraft and declare the captain unfit to be at the controls (the reverse is also true) gone are the days where the captain can crash the plane into the ground and theres nothing any other crew members can do about it

@@IliasJoels depends on the aircraft and the mental state of the captain Assuming the captain acts professionally, the first officer can verbally state I'm taking control due to safety concerns, and at that point the captain must release the controls If however, the captain is not acting professionally and refuses to release the controls, it can go a few ways Airbus: the first officer can press the sidestick priority button to lock the controls to his side only, then the captain's controls won't work, he can also call in a member of the cabin crew to help if necessary Boeing: the first officer will need to physically overpower the captain's control inputs since the control columns are mechanically linked, and again, he can also call in a member of the cabin crew to help if necessary Its also possible that during the fight, the control column or its linkages may break, rendering the aircraft uncontrollable from one or both sides, though I have never heard of that happening

Preliminary findings of this crash indicate the pilot touched down 1,000 metres (3,300 feet) beyond runway threshold, in wet conditions, and was thus unable to stop his aircraft before the runway ended. He had enough fuel to divert to another airport. This crash would seem to be due to pilot error.
One of the most asked questions on pilot interviews is: “if you see something is going wrong and you call go around but the captain doesnt listen to you... what do you do?” Even though the captain is clearly in the wrong here the first officer should’ve taken control after shouting go around 2 times or just push toga or push the captains hands forward on the throttle. You can always argue and discuss once safe on the ground but in that moment TAKE ACTION and dont be a sheep. In Asia there is still a big culture regarding the captain as an absolute god, you dont want to know how many first officers died flying into mountains because the captain wanted to commit suicide and they did not want to interfere or say something... they just sat there knowing they were about to die.
OLGMC isn’t that why Crew resource management was introduced? First officers should not hesitate if captain is doing wrong thing even after repeated warnings.
@SPIRIT DOT nah, just a very honorable culture where seniority and experience are respected above all else. Sometimes it goes too far though. Like in those cases.
@@BlueRidgeMtns100 I think that's what they meant by "smart brain" was common sense because unfortunately not everyone has it...I don't know for sure though.
Not that easy in an airplane. He would've probably had to subdue the captain which their would be no time. You can't just take over the controls if the other person isn't willing to let go, it's just gonna cancel each other out. Technically the FO put them in the situation coming in too high. Just go around, that captain had a major ego!
@@Mandy_39 The captain didn't want to lose his bonus. If they do the go around without any clear reasons of doing this (like bad weather, wind, snow, rain etc.) they get penalties and salary cut. So there was no reasonable reason for go around from the airlines point of view as the incorrect approach is the pilot fault and not a reason. So he just wanted to avoid being penalized..
The crazy part about it is the OMG moment occurred when there was adequate time to make a well-controlled go-around that most passengers wouldn't even have noticed. Was the captain facing some horrible consequence if he made a good landing after a second approach?
@@maxpenn6374 that's what I thought too. Why is that an OMG moment when you have more than enough time (and fuel too I assume, no mention of any problems with that and also it is normal to have enough left for some more time) to go around and do it properly. It must have been an ego thing or something. I don't know why you can't just leave your ego outside of the cockpit. What good is a landing if you risked dying unneccessarily?
Edgar Xavier there aren’t any repercussions if the FO wants a go around, he could have done it. But didn’t, he could’ve taken control of aircraft but probably left it to captain....alas Ps. You have to go around if it’s suggested by either to the captain or FO to the captain or the officer..
Didn't it say the captain has to land there? So that would have to mean the FO never had. So the FO was in an impossible situation, I remember years ago certain airlines and even certain countries still had a very strict hierarchy in a cockpit, even tho that shouldve changed in the 80s / 90s - and they state they have changed - Maybe the FO didn't dare to directly challenge the captain? As someone pointed out, they were too high before the captain even took over, but that shouldn't mean a death sentence. God bless them all.
Everybody is blaming the pilot... Because he was sleeping. Nobody is thinking about why he slept... What about the politics behind it?? It's because this Cheap Airlines make pilots do much longer shifts for cost cutting. They fired many pilots and those who were retained were made to do double shifts!

It has to be at least 35 years ago, but we were trying to land in Kansas City in a thunderstorm. As well as I can remember it, we seemed about 30 seconds from the runway and flew into a downdraft and it felt like the bottom of the plane had fallen out. The next part is very clear - full throttle and we flew right through the length of the runway at about 500 feet, maybe lower? We slowly climbed through the turbulence and went around. We all talk about the skills of pilots and I'll forever be grateful for this particular crew.
The F/O might also ended up hijacking the plane as in the case of the German Wings.. Or failed to handle a stall and then crash the plane in Air France case. ☹️ Sigh. Rest in peace, all. 😭
Your editing is so good. At the end of each video, when you sum up the investigation findings and alternate between text and slow videos of the plane still on air, it just breaks my heart. Sounds like the captain was sleep walking, actually flying. What a shame!!!! All those people's lives lost. This was a really good video. Thank you for sharing.
Aircrew can have lots of good training related to the need to work as a team, but when a Captain's ego takes over there's not much the FO can do. Is there any psychometric testing for pilots, at least when qualifying as a Captain? I realise that tiredness was a major factor in this crash, but the Captain's ego wouldn't allow him to suffer the potential indignity of a go-around. This was as much about a fatal character flaw as anything else.
I know this is an old comment, but I’d like to point out that Captain ego and unwillingness to cooperate was a huge issue and even caused multiple accidents in the past, so much so that airlines began a mandatory training program to ensure aircrew and cabin crew were on a more equal footing when flying. Flight crew were so afraid of correcting captains in the past that many planes crashed because of overconfidence or poor lapses in judgement. The Tenerife collision was a major incident that comes to mind
It is indian mentality for a captain to think he is god, another pair of eyes can evaluate a situation as well. Only when both Captain and Co-Pilot agree is a decision the best.
Yes, go-around requires back to altitude and getting vectored in again for a runway. You have to do the final approach again and it is embarrassing for some captains.
Well an attempted go around finally became the cause of the crash. The captain tried to do a go around 6 seconds after landing, which is against the procedures of Boeing 737 manual. It was later found that if he didn't try that they wouldn't have crashed
He could have applied extreme breaks instead of idiotic damn throttle. Nothing wrong runway was exhausted by metres all lives would have been saved. Pilot could have blamed some mechanical error to escape actions. Thug life
Ron Baruah So what you say proves that all of the captain's decisions/actions were wrong. In addition to that, the first officer should have done two important things: - Wake up the captain way earlier, before starting the approach. - Impose his own authority or should I say responsibility, and make the captain do the Go Around. It's terribly sad to know how easily this accident could've been avoided.
So sad this happened. Having served in the US Air Force we keep hearing the "rules", out of which #1 is you can always go around, #2 never force an airplane to land, #3 flying VFR into IFR will get you killed 99% of the time, #4 crosswind indicators are there for a reason, and #5 airplanes fly themselves, we just steer them around.
Great job on the video. Great interview question... You call 3 go arounds and the Captain does not respond... what do you do?” 1) tell the tower going around 2) gear handle gear up and yell go around 3) flaps to 15 yell TOGA Go around 4) touch the Captain and say softly come on, go around 5) knock his hand and hit TOGA By then the Captain will go around because he does not want to land gear up and he has to explain the tower what happened..he’ll be pissed but he’ll live. The company would recreate the incident and the FO would be vindicated.. there is a reason the 737 is not certified single pilot.. The FO could have said “i thought you were dead or had a stroke since you were not responding..”
According to reports, if they fully braked and dint try to go around after touchdown, the plane would have stopped before it could reach the airport boundary... RIP to all the passengers who passed away. ..
Charlotte Ruse: It’s not that simple - the main controls are physically duplicated, one on the left (pilot), one on the right (copilot). When one side moves, the other side moves accordingly. A change of control ALWAYS has to be announced and affirmed - “You have control” answered by “I have control” or words to that affect. But always the captain of any air vessel has absolute authority and responsibility to fly the airplane over any other person including ATC. The FO did everything he could without arresting and physically restraining the captain which has been done on sea vessels but there is no time on an airplane when it’s discovered the captain is incapable. A very sad case.
Valentino Tera: Yep, exactly, and the FO who was flying the airplane would be required to confirm “your airplane” and then turn over control to the PIC. This is the case in any aircraft of any size when there is more than one pilot. Even small airplanes somewhat fly themselves when trimmed for level flight so it’s not always apparent who is in control.
Seeing these types of recreations makes me sad but most of all upset and angry. Those poor people died just because some pilot with an inflated ego or in a rush was the cause of the accident.
First officer was right but captain ignore, a "go round" was the best option to prepare for another approach, which would have provides with them the best approach, but a captain murdered his passengers, though he took his life as well, r.i.p
It was the co piolet that made the mistake, he didn't follow flight plan decent instructions leaving the captain to try to correct under duress, although consider the captain took control, didn't request an emergency landing alert and the tower operations neither had concerns for the landing. It wouldn't take much for the co piolet to push that exelerator forward to deliberately increase speed and overshoot the runway? just an alleged cenario to reconsider. And something's suspicious about any captain sleeping in that terrain while approaching descent and that is; it would never happen allegedly.
@@dcbeez5956But he did tell the captain to go around three times, so he would have gone around if he'd still been flying the plane. The FO's mistake was in not waking the captain before they got close to the destination.

A similar thing happened with my flight from Dubai to Mangalore around 2 years ago. There was a storm which caused a lot of turbulence and really low visibility near the airport but thankfully the pilots were really smart and increased the altitude and managed to spend what seemed like 30-40mins going in circles near or above (not sure where exactly since you couldn't see anything) the airport before finally landing the plane safely. I'm so glad I got good pilots at that moment. Mangalore airport is known to be pretty dangerous and I travel there every year so it's kind of scary to see this happen not to mention some of the victims used to live near my grandparents house there. Also, another interesting thing I have realized is after this incident the flights going to Mangalore had really low altitude approach to the airport and touched down exactly where the runway starts, wasting absolutely no space.
In this case, not sure at any point would've worked. Especially when our captain here (ironically)was the one, out of the two, certified to land at this airport.
@@bradwindhorst7010 Certified or not he could see the runway and could land the plane and had more common sense than the captain. When he was going to land the plane so far down the runway he should have taken control from the captain.
@@joebrunette5594It took me a moment to recollect this crash video. Yeah, it's just sad how it ended up. I've watched a few of these where the co-pilots fear of questioning their captains ends up being their demise.
A totally avoidable accident. Being in a state of sleep inertia and such was one thing, it was the certain arrogance of the captain as well that caused this crash. He went against the protocols and blatantly ordered the First Officer to report in affirmative to the ATC when literally that wasn't the case. Horrible and unfortunate.
And then he went from reverse thrust to full throttle near the end of the runway, to attempt a go around when it was much, much too late, sending the plane past the safety areas and barriers into a gorge. Sleep inertia my ass. This is is the biggest idiot I've ever heard of piloting a commercial airliner.
The first officer is also responsible, an this is why he should take control of the plane, when the captain did not respond to his request. Even though the captain is in charge the first officer should have taken control.
It sounded to me like the pilot and co-pilot didn't exactly get along. No chatter, Captain just disregarding the 3 warnings... I just don't buy the sleep excuse. But then again, I'm a suspicious bastard.
It's not "retarded". There are phenomena in flying. Some are pretty crazy, and some related to sleep, being tired, etc. that affect your judgement, and decision-making. Have you ever taken a long drive and felt tired so you pull over for a nap? When you wake, it takes a few minutes to get "up to speed". You feel weird for a little while until your body catches up. Right before landing iwould be the worst time to be waking from a nap. The workload in the cockpit is most high.
I'm a GA pilot but private or airliner, you just do NOT short yourself on sleep and fly, which is no less than stupid and dangerous, as well as lethal as this flight was. The CVR showed "snoring and heavy sleep-breathing for 110 minutes", totally indicative of his recent sleep deprivation; there is no excuse for that!
I used to volunteer for an ambulance. Getting a call at 3:00 am and driving to the ambulance building, I would not know up from down sometimes. It was a short drive and I remember one time not even knowing where I was driving. That was just driving, not managing three-dimensional travel. Granted, a pilot should not be getting his overnight sleep during a flight, but the fact is that the brain has different cycles and ones competence can be affected by the cycle you're in. Still, when the first officer says go around, the captain should already have a personal rule that kicks in, saying "Holy Crap, my FO just told me to go around! Things must be pretty bad if I let that happen. If things are that bad, I need to start over." That attitude should be baked into the pilots head every day. If your FO *ever* tells you to go around and you are in the air, GO AROUND. If he tells you three times, that means you already ignored him twice and you are clearly a reckless danger to all passenger and crew.
Of course you are right, however, it IS incumbent upon anyone who works nights or odd hours to be responsible enough to see that they get enough sleep. Your body clock CAN ADAPT but you need to be astute enough to let it adapt, by sleeping ENOUGH when you can and changing your habits so that you are SAFE during the time you are working.
I've done this before in P3D... Coming in too high, and I'm like, "eff it, I'm gonna stick this landing." It didn't work well in the simulation either.
Thank you very much for doing this video! I'm from the same city ie Mangalore where this Crash happened. One of the worst airline disasters in India. The whole city came to a stand still following this Crash☹️
Good job. I know that South Korean, Japan and some Middle East airlines have retrained air crews to stress that first officers and other lesser officials must take initiative and not be intimidated by the culture that gives so much power to the 'chief." Guess India hasn't had that before this accident. Hope it woke up Indian training procedures but no mention in video.

I never understand why at the end of runways, they always seem to have rivers, embankments, roads, hills, or in this case, a damn cliff! Seriously?! Why don't they put some sort of area at the end that brings the plane to a stop in a safe way that doesn't damage the plane too severely.
Most airports have grass fields for this exact reason. Runways need to be bidirectional, where you can land and takeoff for either direction, so having a landing net would be problematic as you would have to avoid it on landing. Runway concrete/tarmac is already very grippy, and so sandy runways would probably make the tires very hot from friction or shear them. Just no point. Planes already have emergency braking and pilots should abort if they are not within the safety margins to land. However, in this case, a tabletop airport on top of a hill would mean no space for a grass field, or sand area. This is why to land on these you need incredible precision, and pilots know this. Having a mechanism to stop the plane is useless if almost noone uses it and if the plane was going to overrun to use it they should go around. Pilot error was the reason this crashed, captain should have listened to the co-pilot, he knew they were not in the margins to land, but the captain never listened.
Very similar to how many people we killed in this crash (talking about scenario, not technicality), another crash has happened yesterday killing 17. Now I see that it's also falling from the table top that is killing people(more people). I think Table Top Taxiways needs to be done away with for heavy passenger planes in our country. It's a disaster waiting to happen every time. If the plane would have skided on a even taxiway disaster would have been minimal.
I would like to share the experiences of the survivors that tells us how miraculously they've survived. "“They were shouting in different languages,” he says. “Their cries for help still wake me up at night and I think this will haunt me till my death,” “There were many families on the aircraft because it was summer vacation time, and what I could hear clearly were the cries of children calling their parents for help. I thought my death was near.” Usman immediately unbuckled his seat belt and jumped off the plane. "Luckily, the ground was just about 4 feet below. I crawled from the crash site till I reached the Konkan Railways track, where locals helped me get in touch with my family," he says. Ismail was preparing to disembark when he heard the bang. "I saw the aircraft break into two near me. I jumped out and ran to safety. Looking back, I saw the aircraft break into pieces, catching fire. God saved me. With an injured leg, I went to a village and called my friend who picked me up and took me to a hospital," says Ismail Sabrina Haq: The 20-year-old medical student is the only woman survivor. "I jumped out when the plane toppled over," says G K Pradeep: "With touchdown, a tyre burst. And the plane went out of control," Pradeep told reporters. "Within five seconds, there was fire and smoke all over. I could not even breathe. I saw a broken window, through which I jumped to save myself. I hurt my legs and hands. After ten minutes, there was an explosion. I can't believe I survived the crash," he says. "Someone was pulling at my leg from inside, but I managed to jump. I saw four more persons had escaped. We could hear shrieks from inside the plane, but could not go near because of the fire," said Kollikunnu. "I submit everything to God," he says. "At 5.30 a.m., the crew announced we'll be landing in half an hour. Touch kiya, within seconds we heard a tyre burst. With smoke in the cabin, there was chaos. The plane broke. I could see trees through the smoke and I jumped out. There was another passenger before me trying to jump, so I pushed him out. He got entangled in a cable. In helping him, I got burnt," he says

I was on a flight years back, where I didn’t realize it at the time but, the plane initiated a go around and now that I look at this video.. I’m thankful for that decision for it could’ve had this outcome had it not been agreed. RIP to all the souls who lost their lives to the hands of one careless pilot.

When everyone’s telling you there’s a problem then there’s usually a problem. Arrogance at its highest level. All because you have more years of experience doesn’t mean you are always right. Such a tragic waste of so many innocent lives, and I guess the ones who survived were never the same again. It’s a huge injustice that the pilot didn’t survive because he should of been made accountable for his ignorance which ultimately lead to so many lives being lost. Shame on him. These industries are exhausting, and expectations are very high. I imagine in places where regulations aren't as good as we have here it can be even more body stressing. Idk if he forgot or not, I just know that falling asleep is not always voluntary. And maybe he didn't forget. Either way- people have perished, and that is very difficult to absorb.

I completely respect your position; I was only wondering how you knew.
What exactly 'go around' means?

My instructor always told me,”you never lose points for going around”.

Airbus is better than Boeing for that. With an Airbus the pilot wouldn't have been able to do that because the computer limits the dangerous maneuvers.

You have acc.................. so the vehicle will slow down when it detects an obstacle.................
In a curve, wet roads and slippery conditions.........................
"Hi there, mr Tree. Say: Why couldnt you move a little so i would have passed you?"
Im sorry, but when a pilot knows how to fly, and knows his aircraft...............
MORAL: Let the captain sleep till landing otherwise he will make everyone asleep forever.
Exactly my opinion too.
So true
That's not how it works bro

These planes do have an incredible stopping distance, once landed full brakes on they can stop very abruptly. An experienced piolet would never sleep on decent in this terrain with his experience, things don't add up and I don't believe this was the outcome on all aspects, it deserved.
pilots are taught in training that if the captain is doing something that jeopardizes the safety of the aircraft, the first officer can seize control of the aircraft and declare the captain unfit to be at the controls (the reverse is also true)
gone are the days where the captain can crash the plane into the ground and theres nothing any other crew members can do about it

@@IliasJoels depends on the aircraft and the mental state of the captain
Assuming the captain acts professionally, the first officer can verbally state I'm taking control due to safety concerns, and at that point the captain must release the controls
If however, the captain is not acting professionally and refuses to release the controls, it can go a few ways
Airbus: the first officer can press the sidestick priority button to lock the controls to his side only, then the captain's controls won't work, he can also call in a member of the cabin crew to help if necessary
Boeing: the first officer will need to physically overpower the captain's control inputs since the control columns are mechanically linked, and again, he can also call in a member of the cabin crew to help if necessary
Its also possible that during the fight, the control column or its linkages may break, rendering the aircraft uncontrollable from one or both sides, though I have never heard of that happening

A Go-Around that could've save so many lives!

The captain was Serbian, not Indian.
What a waste ... a simple go around and all live. Sad.
Thug life

@@fiucikmiselfo1922 Stats about safety in indian transports are appalling, mostly in trains
Ron Baruah So what you say proves that all of the captain's decisions/actions were wrong. In addition to that, the first officer should have done two important things:
- Wake up the captain way earlier, before starting the approach.
- Impose his own authority or should I say responsibility, and make the captain do the Go Around.
It's terribly sad to know how easily this accident could've been avoided.
This as a few other crashes leaves me speechless, shake my head when it cones to experience pilots not making right decisions.
That’s as “pilot error” as it gets.
You call 3 go arounds and the Captain does not respond... what do you do?”
1) tell the tower going around
2) gear handle gear up and yell go around
3) flaps to 15 yell TOGA Go around
4) touch the Captain and say softly come on, go around
5) knock his hand and hit TOGA
By then the Captain will go around because he does not want to land gear up and he has to explain the tower what happened..he’ll be pissed but he’ll live. The company would recreate the incident and the FO would be vindicated.. there is a reason the 737 is not certified single pilot..

Not blaming but the co pilot should have taken control. To hell with the consequences.
Charlotte Ruse but who decides who takes control?
Nigel Stanford: The captain in any sea or airborne vessel always has ultimate authority over any other person...unless the captain is incapacitated.
@@rayray8687 Oh yeah, like Sully's "my airplane"
Valentino Tera: Yep, exactly, and the FO who was flying the airplane would be required to confirm “your airplane” and then turn over control to the PIC. This is the case in any aircraft of any size when there is more than one pilot. Even small airplanes somewhat fly themselves when trimmed for level flight so it’s not always apparent who is in control.
Seeing these types of recreations makes me sad but most of all upset and angry. Those poor people died just because some pilot with an inflated ego or in a rush was the cause of the accident.

It would have been impossible to jump from the emergency door while the plane was still on the runway but I’m glad he survived

RIP to 158 people on board who lost their lives
Zubair Mohammed they really shoulda just done a go-around before they touched down on the runway. That was the safest bet
Unprofessionalism
Dave Depilot well said.
Moral of the story : Grab the Yoke from your half asleep captain and yell as loud as you can "I HAVE CONTROLS!!!"
Senseless piloting. Just a simple go-around would have saved hundreds of lives
I've done this before in P3D... Coming in too high, and I'm like, "eff it, I'm gonna stick this landing." It didn't work well in the simulation either.

Guess India hasn't had that before this accident. Hope it woke up Indian training procedures but no mention in video.
Yup, the heirarchy in eastern world is way too strong. You just have to give in to your higher up.
I don't think this has anything to do with india , it happens all over the world , be it captain or first officer it's all about crm at the end.
This is the only channel which I have subscribed to without a second thought. It's so beautiful in every aspect. Great content, No stupid ads, complete description of events, step by step, presented slowly, so people can read properly and of course, the beautiful picturisation to keep us all hooked. Excellent piece of work. All the best , love from India !!
You put on so much hard work in each video
I never understand why at the end of runways, they always seem to have rivers, embankments, roads, hills, or in this case, a damn cliff! Seriously?! Why don't they put some sort of area at the end that brings the plane to a stop in a safe way that doesn't damage the plane too severely.
Itz a tabletop airport....one of the 3 in India! That’s y only the captain is allowed to manoeuvre the landing process 💔
Maybe like a giant roll of
bubble wrap? Lol
@@DreamCatcher-wg1bk rip to those who were died yesterday, kerala❤😭
I would like to share the experiences of the survivors that tells us how miraculously they've survived.
"“They were shouting in different languages,” he says. “Their cries for help still wake me up at night and I think this will haunt me till my death,”
“There were many families on the aircraft because it was summer vacation time, and what I could hear clearly were the cries of children calling their parents for help. I thought my death was near.”
Usman immediately unbuckled his seat belt and jumped off the plane.
With an injured leg, I went to a village and called my friend who picked me up and took me to a hospital," says Ismail
Sabrina Haq: The 20-year-old medical student is the only woman survivor. "I jumped out when the plane toppled over," says
G K Pradeep: "With touchdown, a tyre burst.

Thanks to you and the survivors for reaching out and sharing their
experiences with us. Prayers for the deceased and their families on that flight.
Muhammad Arif,
Thank you for teling the story of the crash, It was A Good explaination.
Muhammad Arif so sad
@SportsFreak
Have some respect, shitbird. People here do care about the experiences of the survivors. You do get the technical aspects etc. from the video...
So if the video is about something, the comments must be strictly about it too? No one even agrees with you, get the fuck out of here.
God damn man what is your problem? You didn't have to scroll down and read the comments. What triggered you?
It is maddening that 158 lives ended because of a pilot's inattention.
I was on a flight years back, where I didn’t realize it at the time but, the plane initiated a go around and now that I look at this video.. I’m thankful for that decision for it could’ve had this outcome had it not been agreed. RIP to all the souls who lost their lives to the hands of one careless pilot.
"Wait, let's go around captain, i think we shouldn't land"
"haha airplane go wooosh"
What is funny in this?
@@hindiguru8887 I think he assumed this is a video game controlled by a kid and the kid made a blunder.

Just play FSX steam edition and ride hot air balloons at mach 4
I live 63kms from this airport and on the same flight my uncle arrived a week before the crash... I had seen those pilots at the airport while i was waiting to pick my uncle outside

RIP to all those lost. 😢
unmm dying is him being held accountable
I swear some of these pilots are on suicide missions. Eight lucky souls.

There is no such thing as Luck....There is only Almighty God!!!!!
May He Bless You!!!!!
Do you swear or do you swanee? My mother said swanee.
U are thinking of those 8 lucky souls.... what's was the mistake of those hundreds of lives and their families; being unlucky?
Falsely "correcting" someone while you "enlighten" them about your sky fairy, created in the Era Of Ignorance, is abjectly arrogant.
'Survivor's guilt' will finish off the remaining Elite Eight.
Really weird that another plane crashed exactly after 10 years due to a high unstable aproach!!
In pakistan right
Same date as well if I'm not wrong. Shows you how much history can repeat itself.
