I’ll always tune in for a Dolmar! Hand to God I was playing around with the old 123 just the other day. Absolute shredders, and *absurdly* robust. Feels like running a handheld BMW motorcycle. That big 153 of yours sounds like a snarling Kodiak. Biggest full wrap I think I’ve ever seen, that poor Cedar didn’t stand a chance! Dear Santa 😀

Billy, I recently discovered your videos and have really enjoyed them. I have been using saws and felling timber since I was about 15. I just wanted to let you know that you, in my opinion, are a master teacher. Maybe you don’t consider yourself that, but sharing your knowledge, makes cutting and felling trees safer and more enjoyable really is truly admirable. May God continue to bless you and your family with health and safety as you continue your journey in life. Smile wide! I look forward to seeing more videos.

Felling timber since 15, sounds like you may have already survived some danger.
Welcome to the Buckin Army, he has doled out a ton of common sense work ethic that is needed to be repeated.
As you know any good teacher should repeat knowledge so it sinks in deep.
      Stay safe

Ha ha... catching the dangerous moments of a Buckin video, not too many but there are some.
Most of the danger rides on Billy and his choices of equipment/ cuts/ experience that have been learned over the years. It's great to see and know that he is driving the knowledge wagon into the eyes and minds of a new generation of workers. I very much appreciate that fact. 💪😎

Sachs Dolmar wins every time. Lightweight, powerful, easy to fix, looks deeecent, west German quality. Only downside is the expensive parts, but that's a rule for all ancient saws.
In order of reliability and ease of repair for vintage saws that I've tried, it would be, Sachs Dolmar, Homelite, Husqvarna, McCulloch. Echo and Sthil probably sit somewhere near the top, idk they are always too expensive and rare for me to justify. I've never owned any old Johnsered Poulan, Craftsman, Pioneer, or Canadian PM saws, but Ive heard good things about all of them.
I really like the design of McCulloch saws, they are easy to fix, but the only one I've ever had the privilege to run is a beat up 310 Powermac, which needs constant attention to the carb.
Both of my vintage Homelite saws have completely scored pistons, the xl auto ate half its metal reed valve, and somehow, they have better compression and run better than anything else I own (besides the Dolmar 111) I can't explain why, but those things are indestructible, you'd have to put stone dust n gunpowder through the intake to kill it.

A cedar? I never got to cut one. Madrona, fir, and alders. Great saws, and sawsmanship! Uncle was a logger, and owned a shake mill down here to the coast of Warshington. I started felling when I was 12, and learned a lot before he passed too soon. Watching you work brings back some good ol' memories.🙂Got an old Mculloch that I have questions about, and would like to give, or trade to a good home. Has a big custom wood crate. I have photos if anyone is interested. 👍

I'm kind of green and wet behind the ears when it comes to logging and chainsaws. I use a battery Makita for clearing stuff and pruning for my clients (I'm in landscaping, not a lot of need for massive chainsaws). But even I know that companies like DOlmar, MCCulloh or Homelite have gone down the drain. They are definitely not the choice of modern loggers and fellers. What happened there? Watching Billy's videos I can see they were making top notch commercial saws that were heavily used by pros in the 60s and 70s... What went wrong?
