Far and away, the most often question on my demo and review of the Squier Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster is, "What's the routing under the pickguard?"
Well, it's not quite a swimming pool, but it's routed for a neck humbucker AND a middle single coil!
But the heart of this video isn't the pickguard routing -- it's the Lollar Royal T neck pickup (a Telecaster-sized strat-voiced pickup) and the four-way switch I got from Gunstreet wiring!
An enormous apology to anyone who tried to watch this premiere with me -- I have a video editing program that sometimes drops seconds of audio when I upload and my spot check didn't catch it this time.
Pickup is Lollar Royal T
Wiring by Gunstreet Wiring
Guitar is Squier Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster
Amp is Milkman the Amp
Dirty by Bookworm Effects Diving Belles

man, that wood looks really nice in that overhead lighting. damn, way better than the product shots.
60 Cycle Hum mine is way darker than expected, similar to hers. Looks way different on the fender website
Yeah, I haven't seen a single picture online of another one of these that looks nearly as light as it does in product shots on the Fender site.
Just ordered one of these in the natural. I’m excited like a kid on Christmas morning!
Interesting that there’s a middle pickup rout and room for a neck humbucker it looks like. Not sure if most tele style guitars have that or not. I’m picking up this guitar in a couple days, so thanks for being one of the only people making videos on it lol
Congratulations on picking one up! I'm pretty in love with mine. And I'm surprised by the routing but I suppose it's very easy for them to do.
I'd love to put a jazzmaster/soapbar pickup in the neck so this is great news!
@@nickhumes8659 Doesn't quite look like it would fit a soapbar in that neck position? ...as they are abit longer than normal humbuckers. I've now got the itch for one of these because my two fav guitars are teles and jazzmasters, and prefer maple necks. I'd like to maybe put a WRHB in the neck position as I have a mexican tele custom '72 reissue.
@@scottvalk Damn you're right, could put a p94 or a humbucker sized one, but not as satisfying
Yes they do
This guitar is becoming my favorite one to play. I think I lucked out. Great upgrade ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for opening it up! I really want to turn this into an offset Nashville tele and was planning on routing out the cavity myself
This is perfect for that setup!
Hopefully they do another run soon, it looks like the natural finish is out of stock on Fender’s site
@@classicrocker91 There's a few available on Reverb!
Great video! I love that you dive right into these projects like, "I've never done this before, but let's see what I can do"
Hey, you gotta learn by doing, and why not learn on a Squier. Shit, I learned everything else I know about guitar on Squiers, why not mods?
@@GetOffset amen! This is why I subscribe :)
i love this channel! plz keep it up :)
Thanks!
Thank you! Usefull to see the routing :)
I'm glad to hear it!
Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of getting one of these and putting a Lollar Special T in the bridge and a lollar firebird in the neck. I do mainly southern rock and country and think this would be a cool ax for that with those pickups. Great video.
Oh totally! You'd get the best of about three world: offset shape, tele bridge, strat neck
just bought one of these to build a partscaster out of, with either a '60s tele neck or one of the new Jazzmaster necks that just dropped. stoked to discover I can install a neck humbucker no problem
Extra cool points for the butterbean tuner keys.
Hell yeah! it's already routed for a Nashville config!
Nice review. Thanks
Thanks!
Lovely and yay Shawn!
He's the best!
Hey Emily...I pulled the trigger, and got a great deal from Sweetwater on the Squier Paranormal Telecaster in White (matches my 66 and 65 Reissue Jazzmasters). Your videos on this guitar inspired me. I've never cared for Squier necks. I always preferred a chucky neck, 7 1/4" Radius. The 9 1/2" Radius on this Squier, I'm getting along with it just fine. The quality in construction is outstanding. What I found very cool is it has a Maple Cap, no skunk stripe. It looks and feels great!. I'm even getting along with the 9's it came with. I'll surely do some mods, brass compensated saddles, maybe Tex-Mex Pickups, and 4-way switching. Thanks for these Offset videos!🎸💎
Congratulations! I'm glad you're enjoying it
Thanks for the vids on this and the Super Sonic, have a Graphite Super Sonic on the way and the reviews for both guitars have been super informative
Glad you like them!
Interesting w/ a 4 way switch, how's the noise floor w/ it in series vs parallel? It sounds like its pretty quiet (until gain pedal is added of course)! Curious how balanced the stock bridge sounds with that Lollar.
It's so quiet! And the Lollar pickup is louder for sure.
the switching is very similar to my deluxe thinline tele! it has 4 positions in the switching. I believe it's bridge, middle, neck, and then neck and bridge in series! kind of weird but gives a cool sound, only thing is when I want to flip from bridge to neck i gotta be careful not to push it too far cause the 4th position is much louder than the others Lol
Cool, thanks!
great video :)
Thanks!
I’m beginning my mod project of this with a bridge. Bought two different ones to try (3 compensated and 6 saddle). I have Yosemite pickups on the way too. I will be keeping track of ur build too! Might do a 4 way switch if it is kinda easy
That's awesome! You do have to buy a special switch for the 4-way mod, which is part of why I bought the harness from Gunstreet.
Get Offset could I put the original flat top knobs on that plate? I just prefer the flat top look
As long as the pots are the same size, but if you're just swapping the switch it wouldn't matter. If you want the whole wiring harness I'd reach out to Sean and he'll get you settled up!
Get Offset that’s true. I am really inexperienced with this, but I have some concerns about the stock squier pots and the fender Yosemite pickups, I don’t know if they will be optimal
I’ve seen some reviews that the necks on these are narrow such that the E strings are close to the edge. Is that your experience? Can you tell if the neck pocket would accommodate a strat or Jazzmaster neck? Thanks!
Um, I don't have any beef with the neck. Don't tele pockets usually accommodate strate/jazzy necks? I sincerely forget which way that usually works.
Will you ever do a review of the new Cort MBC-1 guitar?
I haven't been in touch with them at all, but if you want to see us demo it please feel free to reach out to Cort and let them know you'd love to see us do a demo of it!
Does anyone know if the neck pickup route can fit a soapbar p90 or jazzmaster pickup?
Those are a little longer than a humbucker yeah? it might need to be widened a bit...
What do you think of the neck profile? I’ve heard it’s like an Ibanez neck.
I like it but I like thin necks
VERY COOL!
Hello Emily, what a kind and nice channel. Did you have a chance to try the Paranormal Offset Tele with neck humbucker? I wonder if that guitar makes sense and I think you are one the best youtubers out there to provide clear opinon on the gear :)
I actually did get to play that at the Sweetwater store! Personally, it wasn't my favorite but please keep in mind I'm not partial to Humbuckers. I much preferred the single coil in the neck, which I swapped to a lollar royal t and dropped in 4-way switches.
Sounds nice
Thanks!
The guitar itself is like a convoluted hybrid of a Strat, a Tele and a Jazzmaster, is it not?
Sure is!
That's some serious twang
Right?
Love it! Got one in surf green, putting in an Emerson custom 4-way prewired kit and a bigsby! We will have twin guitars! Do you like the tuners on your guitar? I heard another review say they didn’t like the tuners at all!
Twinsies! I don't mind the tuners at all, but I also have some work planned on this guitar that might involve swapping them lol. I guess I'll tell you first--I ordered a baritone conversion neck for this guitar and I plan on getting my spaghetti western on!
NICE. I just got my bigsby on, and an Emerson Custom 4-way kit dropped in. Next are a small single coil pickup upgrade, and possibly locking tuners/ a new nut if I have a bunch of tuning issues!
Maybe drop some filtertrons in at some point for ultimate spaghetti western? But that neck is gonna be awesome!
Do you have any other mod's in mind for your offset tele ? And do you have any other info on Gunstreet Wiring ? Great video BTW ✌️... Oh and would you say it's more comfortable to play than a normal Tele ?
Let's see, I added a Lollar Royal T to the neck and added a four-way wiring switch from Gunstreet, then I added a Bigsby! I think it's extremely comfortable, but I get along well with a normal tele, but I like sitting and playing a jazzmaster-style body better, yeah.
Hi Emily...I have a quick question maybe you can answer. I know from this video you swapped the controls and pickups, good job on that. Do you recall the value of the original Pots you removed? I'm guessing 250K. I haven't starting ripping my Offset Tele apart yet, I'm still in 30 day trial mode with it.
Pretty sure it was 250 but it was awhile ago...
@@GetOffset Thanks for that Emily!
I’m a bit alarmed by the muddy sound and 60 cycle hum. You have a grounding problem?
Don't remember, thanks for watching!
Eu acho muito linda essa guitarra ...sonho em um dia ter ela .... save to brazil
I hope Brazil gets them!
Awesome
The tele sounds like a no tele thru this amp, unfortunately it soulds bad, and I was searching some info about this amp and planning to buy it. But I really need this guitar.
Well the neck pickup is basically a strat pickup which would make it sound less like a Telecaster.
@@GetOffset Well, that's strange. I got fender twisted tele set installed in one of my teles (yes, I know, I got several same guitars, weird) and these are one of the best telecaster pickups ever made imho. The neck pickup is supposed to be more of a strat pickup and it sounds fantastic, it is bright, rich and full, I just love it.
Also, I watched your first video with this guitar and it sounds kinda different, even considering different pickups.
I put a lollar royal T in the neck in this video. In my experience guitars will sound different on different days. I probably just had some different settings going. Plus the different wiring.
Uhhhhh now I wanna get one and put a p90 in the front position.
Definitely do that!
Are you going to put a Bigsby on it?
I did put a bigsby on it! Planning on filming the after/review part of that tonight depending on my energy level (or lack thereof)
Get Offset right on! I have been thinking of getting one of these and installing a Bigsby as well. Great videos by the way!
Is that’s Gear Supply pick?!
Yeah I have like 150 or something laying around. Didn't feel like it would help anyone to toss them and hey they stole my money too.
Oh hai ayayron
Far Out...
Why everyone call it offset tele it looks like jaguar jagcaster
It's definitely a jazzmaster body, and jazzcaster was already trademarked from my understanding.
You're super awesome but please use a tuner ... a better tuner ... it's not tuned. The guitar sound is one quarter the sound of your voice.
Guitars are perpetually out of tune scientifically Randy, your ears are just used to making excuses. Get rekt.
Hey if you're hearing that much of a difference in the audio levels it might be on your end.
Also it's not set up for intonation, which I do mention in the video.
@@GetOffset It's very loud when you enable distortion.
@@noahbarnowl1470 ?... the other videos are fine. What do you mean?
cool but the intonation sounds off
I mean it is.
Get Offset I would just convert it to a brass 6 saddle setup. People claim the 3 works, but as a strat guy, I have my doubts. I would not care if it changes the tone slightly, it's not a traditional tele anyway.
@@unabonger777 Well I didn't spend a lot of time on intonation because I was just gonna put a bigsby on it.
all your pickup setting sound the same except bridge. stop buying so many guitars & invest in a fender tube amp
Thanks for watching!
