I'm back with another modification to my Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster! This time, I've added a Bigsby B5T to one of my favorite new guitars.
Installing the Bigsby wasn't too bad. I did have to get a new drill bit that I hadn't already had and some patience. I still need to shim the neck, which should help with the action and the buzzing from the vintage-style tremolo.

I just bought this exact one and I am quite pleased. It is my 3rd offset guitar and I traded in my VM Jag to get it. It's my only tremolo-free electric atm and I immediately want to put a bigsby on it. I'm glad I've found your channel as I am used to Jaguar and Jazzmaster bridge troubles so now I know I'll run into that again with this upgrade. I do think the offset Tele is pretty nice as is and I will probably just keep the stock bridge for now and add pickups instead. I'm thinking of putting a filtertron or p90 in the neck, while bumping the stock neck pu down into the middle position and switching to a 5-way toggle switch.
I have the same guitar, but the a MIJ one. I was impressed so much by it, tried it in the store and came back home with it. Great build. You are tempting me...I love Bigbys
You CLEARLY need a backup 😉
Get Offset believe me, I have many backups. Bought an 2011 AVRI Jazzmaster just last week 🙈😂
Looks so great!!
It does!
Looks glorious.
it is!
So glad I found your channel! I have the Surf Green Paranormal offset Tele and have been thinking about putting a bigsby on it! Also from Edmonton, AB so loving the rep for the TunaTone TeenyTuna!
Welcome aboard! Tunatones are the BEST because Leila is the best!
Everytime I see one of your videos I'm just in awe of that Fender Pawn Shop Series Offset. Been looking for one for ages.
Also, your mods on this offset Tele are making me consider grabbing one, instead of just saving and looking for one of the older American or Japanese ones. Although, from this series I think I am buying both Cabronitas first, especially that Baritone one.
Oh those are so awesome but aren't in stock!
@@GetOffset yes, I know. I'm just waiting patiently for them to be in stock haha
Love this one!
Cool channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
First of all thanks for your answer! Unfortunately it is not a matter of course to get it by UA-cam users. Furthermore I need to say you review a lot of great pedals which are not deliverable in Germany! Would be happy to hear from you! 😊
Thanks. I’m a big fan of tremolo/vibrato bars. I have them on my Firebird, Gretsch solid body and ES335 style guitar. My offset Tele is the Olympic White one, and I’m a little torn about adding a Bigsby. Your video is helping to nudge me in that direction- still undecided…
Glad I could help! This is definitely an easier mod than (most) Bigsbys and IMO it has a similar feel, especially if you get the longer arm.
I've been fighting with a jazzmaster bridge for the past month now, my solution was a little complex, but it worked: 11 gauge strings, stewmac 0.5 shim, Staytrem bridge
So your solution to the bad bridge was to get a new bridge? Damn, that worries me...but I have faith in Mike Adams who seems to have faith that I can do this without a Staytrem. I'm still unsure.
@@GetOffset It was pretty much fine without upgrading, but the staytrem allowed me to intonate it better
Wow, I didn't expect it to look this good with the bigsby.
I did ;)
@@GetOffset Haha obviously :) Still waiting for my Offset Tele to arrive. Might have to consider putting a bigsby on it now :P
Heyyyyyyyyyy buddy! You did great on this one, super interested to hear what you think after shimming!
Awwww thanks so much!
@@GetOffset You did a great job on that. However, if you don't like that style of bridge you should have done a bit of research, as there are other Bigsby setups that retain the basic Tele-style bridge, but use a modified bridge plate that is cut down so the strings pass cleanly over the saddles without hitting the plate. Actually, it is not too late to change to the cut Tele bridge, if you do you could sell the bridge you have to get back some of the money you spent on that. Maybe try a search for "Telecaster bridge for Bigsby" and see what comes up.
Whatever you do, the key to a good Bigsby setup is the break angle, and keeping all contact points on it lubed with a good guitar lube. That will keep it working smoothly with less problems. Also make sure your strings are always well stretched when you install them.
Every player should have at least one guitar with a Bigsby IMO, they can be fun for some cool effects.
I got the super sonic bc i’ve wanted one since I was 13, but jeeeeeeesus I’m really starting to reconsider
Same boat, and I like this a lot more... which feels awful to say for some reason.
next challenge: bigsby bar on acoustic guitar
lol send me an acoustic guitar and a bigsby and I'll do it
@@GetOffset If you haven’t already done so, look up the Gretsch G5304TFT Rancher with Bigsby. Would be good if you could get hold of one for a review.
Sorry, I meant G5034TFT
@@Chalky-ze6js Tell Gretsch you want to see me do a demo!
Get Offset I’m sure they won’t mind.
Been thinking about a bigsby on my partscaster tele and have been trying to figure out the bridge as well. I'd rather have something closer to a stock tele bridge. Gotoh has one that is cheaper than the mastery one, but mastery is always super tempting.
I wish I'd known about this: www.callahamguitars.com/bigsby_bridge_vintageteleflatmount_catalog.htm
Hey, good job looks lovely, for the future you may want to check out the vibramate. Install with no drilling / screwing into your guitar. Or minimal as you needed to change the bridge slightly.
Yeah, I'm honestly just not wild about the looks of those. And since this isn't a collector's level guitar, I felt like it wouldn't be the end of the world to drill into it.
Unfortunately Vibramate doesn't make anything that would work to drop a Bigsby onto this guitar like they do for the standard telecaster body shape. I have been searching for something like that for a hot minute, but looks like drilling is about the only way.
What is that pink beauty in the background? The one with the single neck pickup?
It's my Tunatone TeenyTuna!
You did good
Thanks!
This is exactly what I wanted to do with one of these! Also, is that a TV Jones neck pickup?
Lollar royal t!
@@GetOffset Ah ok. Right on! 🤟😎🤟
Is it possible to replace the neck with a mim strat neck ?
I forget which way neck swaps go, TBH.
What about putting a Jazzmaster/Jaguar tremolo on one of these?
Yeah that'd be totally doable. Mastery makes a great aftermarket vibrato.
Emily, I had a question for you, and I apologize if it was answered in the video, but did adding the Bigsby change the sound of the guitar much and did it make it harder to dial in the kind of action you like on the guitar? I like a somewhat low action and didn't know if I'd still be able to get that if I add a Bigsby to my Offset Tele.
(Just so you know, I did watch the entire video, and I don't recall you talking about either of those aspects, but, again, I apologize if you did.)
The new bridge definitely changed how I have to think about the action. I ended up going in and shimming the neck and raising the bridge to get a better break angle and prevent the bridge from buzzing. Honestly not very hard but did require time, trial, and error. I don't feel it changed the overall sound MUCH but I'm sure it did some.
@@GetOffset That's good to know that it didn't change the sound a whole lot. So it sounds like the action is set up higher now to minimize buzzing?
@@cominginsecond I was actually able to get the action lower thanks to the shim, even though I raised the bridge posts! So it's still nice and low but the break angle is a lot better.
@@GetOffset Nice! Glad to hear that.
@@GetOffset Thanks so much for answering my questions!!
So is there a follow up video on how you're liking this?
I haven't played it in a minute but I have a baritone conversion neck I might put on it next week!
If you've drilled standard jazzmaster bridge posts into the guitar, you could also throw in a mustang bridge, or expand the holes and put in a tune o Matic style bridge if you don't like the jazzmaster bridge and don't want to drop the money in a staytrem or mastery
I might have to try to find a 9.5 Mustang Bridge if all else fails.
Maybe try to find one from a classic vibe jazzmaster or jaguar?
The song trough the fast forward made me think about like a mix between an emergency open heart surgery and a frankenstein its alive!!! thing
Hahaha it's from my EP called Self Objectification Without Remorse
How did you like the frets?
I think they're alright! Especially for the price.
I've really enjoyed watching your Offset Tele mod videos and I'm thinking of picking one up to do my own mods, turn the thing into a baritone. Have you ever taken the neck off? Do you know if it has a Strat or a Tele heel? Thanks!
Hopefully this helps, but I switched necks with another tele I had, and it fit in perfectly. I’m pretty sure it’s a tele heel
Hey Emily, excellent vid! I picked up a Paranormal Toronado, and I was thinking about the Supersonic next, but honestly now I’m all gassed up for a Paranormal Offset Tele plus Bigsby. Thanks!
I saw that you ended up shimming the neck. How thick a shim did you end up going with?
If you were to do it all over again, would you choose a different bridge to go with the B5? Also, how do I get one of those coupons? You got a steal of a deal on that B5!
Thanks for watching! I think I shimmed with 2 small pieces of baseball card but I'll probably add another. If I could do it again, I'd've gotten the mastery drop-in bridge for telecasters with vibratos so I wouldn't have had to drill the extra holes. I know one other company makes something similar but I'm blanking on them. Too far gone for me by now, anyway! It was a Fender artist coupon so I don't really know how other folks get 'em haha.
Yeah, but boy howdy are those mastery bridges spendy!
If I can get my hands on one of these offset teles, I might take a Dremel tool to the stock bridge to remove some of the back lip and create the space needed for the strings to pass over, plus replace the barrel saddle with some that are notched for tremolo action. That having been said, I really dig the look of the B5 bridge plate. Those curves... wowza!
Btw, your demos are great! The riffs you play are up my alley, no running up and down he fretboard shredding like crazy, just solid classic melodies and light picking. Very relatable. And thanks for repeating the same riff when changing settings. Not enough reviewers do this!
Oh, and I think Callaham might be he other manufacturer you’re thinking of. They offer a tele bridge for Bigsby with compensated saddles.
@@Doctor_Vulpes Spendy but honestly great. But yeah, you can do that with a dremel for SURE.
I think in this case great minds think alike, because I would of put a bigsby on this guitar if I bought it. But I’m holding out for a j mascis jazzmaster for my birf day...
It would be an excellent choice.
Damn dude, jealous of your handy skills. sweet. Also, picked this one up. But still waiting on my cabronita. Cheers!
They're my two favs by a LOT and I'm surprised by that!
If you can finesse a staytrem, I know they are hard to get to the US now, but I would highly recommend it. See if you have an acquaintance in the UK!
Ahhh that's not a bad idea but I don't know if I do! I wish I'd realized Callahan made the same thing Mastery sells and for a little less. But now that I've already drilled those 9mm holes I feel a little married to either making this bridge work, getting a staytrem, or getting a mastery.
Get Offset I’m sure mastery makes a good one too, I have no experience with it though. I have a little anxiety about not being able to get another staytrem if I were to get another JM :(
Yes, that's exactly why they buzz like hell. The downward pull angle isn't sharp enough. They make a component called a buzz stop that I personally think should go on every single Jazzmaster/Jaguar. It's the simplest little thing to add, so why the hell Fender hasn't just made them stock on those models yet, I will never know.
Have you read Mike Adams' article about why he's anti-buzz-stop? mmguitarbar.wordpress.com/2017/05/30/the-buzz-stop-stops-here-a-rant/
@@GetOffset nope, but I'll be sure to check it out when I have the time.
Jazzmaster Trem !!!
Lol but it already has the bigsby!
Okay, just gotta say well done yada yada but that background track.... madam, my proverbial hat is off!
You could always just use some wood filler or tooth picks for "dowels". That would probably be the easiest depending on how big the holes you drill in it are.
Hah, that's exactly what I ended up using!
@@GetOffset easiest fix for anything that needs a quick wood filling is toothpicks. I've repaired many a strap buttons with that trick. Certainly if you're in dire straights.
I bought one and returned it. I honestly didnt like the neck and wasnt gonna fork out more for another one, also along with the other stuff I bought for it.
But, either way props to you ma dude 🤘🤘🤘
Fair enough!
Is that a doheny g&l?
It is not
It is a Squier Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster
I meant on the wall 😂
Also no. Which are you talking about?
Hi what is the guitar to the right of you in the video , pink with the F hole?
I wanna do this myself but I don’t wanna screw it up so I’m taking it to a guitar shop where I’ll get robbed for the sake of a better job than my own 👍🏾
Yeah if you're new to un-reversible mods I'd maybe shell out for a tech to do this.
Why did ya changed it out. I am not a big fan of whammy bars. To each there own. I still think Your Great.
Those Jazzmaster bridges are dreadful! Even with a neck shim creating a greater break angle and therefore more downward pressure of the strings on the bridge saddles you’ll probably find that the strings will skip across the threaded barrels with decently firm strumming. I notice already that the string spacing isn’t even and this is the problem you’ll face if the strings don’t stay located in the thread slot they’re meant to, along with the fact that it will probably affect tuning and intonation if that happens.
I bought a Japan Tele which was built with and set up for Bigsby (i.e. had the right neck angle and a good break angle over the bridge) and I still suffered crazy bad string skipping out of the threaded saddles (and I don’t even play that hard). I immediately changed the bridge to a Mastery (the one designed as the drop-in replacement for the Jazzmaster bridge, not the Bigsby Tele bridge assembly one you refer to in the video) which wasn’t cheap but is superb. I also have some other offsets with the Mustang bridge design rather than the Jazzmaster one and I believe that should be a cheaper direct drop-in replacement if you do have the problems with string skipping.
The problem with mustang bridges is that aren’t they set up for a rounder radius? Or do they make a 9.5?
Get Offset they do make them. The ones I have came fitted as standard to my Fender American Pro Jazzmaster and Fender Jazz Tele both of which have 9.5” radius. I believe Fender also make an American Performer Mustang with 9.5” radius so I reckon they must have developed a Mustang bridge to suit the American made models with that fingerboard radius.
Why not play it after all that!
The buzzing, mostly :(
The Bigsby is too far back. Move it forward and the break angle is good on the strings.
I don't think I will
Yargh! you forgot to play your guitar!
whoops
