    As the vehicle ages. The window seals lose the little fibers that are in the rubber that keep the glass from rubbing on the rubber. Time for new seals. You will be surprised how much easier the windows work. Especially if you have hand crank windows.

    Silicone spray will work but if you get it on the window glass it will smear like crazy and it's hard to remove, a better solution to this problem is.... Clean the rubbers as he did but use isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitizer, and then apply WD-40 Teflon spray to all the rubbers, it will protect the rubbers from wear and it's even more slippery than silicone spray but without the smearing problem. Good video though! 👍

      Is teflon spray the specialist dirt and dust resistant dry lube ptfe spray?

    • @Blvkbird
      @Blvkbird 3 місяці тому +29

      Okay first - silicone spray will smear yes but it comes off very easily with a wipe from a clean cloth with some glass cleaner. Second - i don’t recommend using any sort of alcohol to wipe the rubber as it will cause it to deteriorate over time. Instead use glass cleaner and spray a generous amount on a rag or paper towel to where it’s very damp and then wrap the rag or power towel on your pinky and use that as a tool to clean and wipe out the dirt and grime from the rubber window tracks. Third - don’t use wd40 as that will surely attract more dirt into the channels. Silicone spray is best for this specific application and use it generously.
      -ASE tech for nearly 10 years that does shit perfectly and doesn’t care how much time it takes to get the job done right.

    • @COL-1
      @COL-1 3 місяці тому +11

      @@Blvkbird your way will also work, but I disagree that silicone is easy to remove, I was a professional auto dealer for over 20 years and had many battles of trying to remove the smears left from silicone on glass, it also ruins microfiber cloths by way of contamination, I use alcohol as a cleaner because it evaporates very quickly and doesn't have any lasting effect on rubber, although I should have mentioned not to get it on paintwork as it will remove all the wax protection or ceramic coatings, I agree that normal WD-40 would be a bad idea because more dirt would stick to it which is why I recommend "WD-40 Teflon spray" which is a dry spray leaving a very slick surface with no residue for dirt to stick to.

    Never ever spray oil based lubricants in window tracks.
    The butyl rubbers will absorb the oils and breakdown...
    Silicone based lubes will attract dust and grit....silicone also spreads in the heat...
    Use a dry lube in window tracks..won't attract dust nor will it spread in the heat

    • @jublywubly
      @jublywubly 3 місяці тому +7

      That's actually incorrect. I sell the bailey channel that is used in car window channels to private and commercial customers. Most, if not all, of them use silicone spray in window channels. None of them use any form of dry lubricant, for the reasons I'll outline below.
      The door and window seals of cars isn't butyl rubber, it's EPDM. The window tracks have bailey channel. It's made from EPDM with a fluffy coating of artificial felt. I'm not sure what that artificial felt is made out of, though. Silicone spray does not contain any form of oil. EPDM is also resistant to light amounts of oil (the resistance varies, depending on the ratio of the ingredients used to make the EPDM.)
      Silicone is a thermal insulator. It's also being used in such a small quantity and only on the window channels, that it won't have any effect on temperatures. There's no temperature issues with window channels, regardless of what is or isn't used.
      While silicone spray will hold more dust than a dry surface, it can actually help to reduce dust getting into the track when the windows are closed, because it seals the (miniscule) gap. Silicone spray also helps to reduce the wearing out of the artificial felt surface, meaning it will take longer until they'll need replacing.
      Whether or not silicone spray is used on window tracks, they still need occasional cleaning, so it's better to use silicone spray than not to use it.
      Using dry lubricants may seem like a good idea, but that's only suitable for hard surfaces, such as locks (where silicone spray is not advisable, because it will trap dirt). If a dry lubricant, such as graphite, is used on the windows channels, it will act as an abrasive and prematurely wear out the bailey channel. It will also deposit on the edge of the glass that goes into the channel, where it could smear onto the rest of the surrounding glass.

    Ive barred any wd-40 product. The propellant runs out far earlier than the contents and so you waste money because you cant spray it. I complained to the company and they couldn't care less. Their loss not mine! You've got to wonder if they deliberately put less propellant in it .
