Heya Scotty from down Under in kangaroo land!! I've found a 2012 Lexus GS 350 F sport only 18,000kms one owner!! And it's cheap! Do you recommend? Thank you Scotty it's going price is $35,000 AUD 😘
I had the same "window is not working" problem. Also the same exact window, the back driver side window. I slammed the back door while holding the power window button as you demonstrated. It works! I haven't been able to use that window for 2+ years, and now i can! Thanks Scotty!
@@ShellyBomb you could probably replace the entire window switch control, it could just be a broken switch, it comes out with clips usually so youd need a plastic spudger (tool to pry the switch panel out without damaging anything), if you need, there is probably youtube tutorials, dont be scared to work on your vehicle.
I had this exact problem with my Toyota Avalon. The right front door window wouldn't go down when I tried to activate it from the driver's side control. It was stuck. I did what Scotty advised and it worked! Thank you Scotty!
Awesome Scotty thank you. As a single woman now that my husband has passed. I have to do everything to keep my car going! In 18 years he taught me a lot! But I am gonna try the silicone to keep windows going. Our garage looks like yours! He has a can of everything!!!! Thanks again! You are a wealth of information!!
Thank you Mr. Kilmer for this and all the other videos you make! I had an 2002 infiniti g35 that power window went out 2 mos. after the warranty expired. $500 bill at the dealer, and when I asked how many of these get replaced to the mechanic he said "a lot". I asked if there was anything that could be done to prevent, he said "no". Life lesson learned years pre youtube explosion. You would want a world filled with honest repair men and women, but at least with this video channel we get a chance to learn from some of the very best!
I've been maintaining and repairing my cars etc for 57 years. One of my older cars (one of many I have) is a 1990 TWR Jaguar XJS 3.6 manual in mint condition with only 41k miles on the clock. I've owned this one for 8 years and the passenger side window has always been stuck closed. I could tell it was getting power as there was a small dip in the brightness of lights when the switch was pressed but it would never move. Then I watched this and went straight out to try the door-slam trick. I opened the door. pressed the switch and firmly closed the door. Nothing. I did it again. Nothing. I did it again and down came the window!! Thanks a whole lot, Scotty. Just shows your're never to old to learn!! If I ever meet you I will buy you a beer or ten!!
Thank you for saving me money. > 450 dollars. My driver side car window was stuck at times and slow going up and down. I saw your video after googling stuck car window for my type of car. The can of silicone lube spray did it. I was not able to find the WD 40 brand ,but any brand will work as long as it has silicone. If I went to an auto shop I would have been charged for a new motor which I did not need.Again Thank you.
Another good use for silicon spray is for the door seals. Here in Missouri during winter, moisture will freeze the door shut. Keeping the rubber sprayed will keep that from happening.
Yep, my doors stick all the time in winter here. It sucks, almost broke my door handles a few times, pulling on the door to get it open. I live in St.Charles, Mo. Right next to St.Louis. Go Blues !!!!
This really worked. I had a really slow driver side window. Gave it a decent sized spray and now it works great. I'd been putting it off for a couple years. Scotty's video made me finally do it.
*My 2013 Ford Edge Limited AWD only had an automatic window for the driver's side. The other windows were regular power windows. So I removed the master switch assembly on the driver's door and replaced it with one from a 2013 Lincoln MKX, replaced the regular switch on the passenger side with an automatic switch, changed out the passenger window motor, purchased the proper wiring harnesses, ran a single additional wire from the driver's door to the passenger door for master control of the automatic passenger window, and connected all the proper wiring in both doors. Now I have automatic windows on the driver's side and the passenger side. It was fun.*
Scotty, your videos are consistently easy to watch, informative and even entertaining. The vast majority of people making videos on youtube have no idea how to accomplish this. You should make a 3 minute video on....how to make a video.

Hey I tried the holding the power window buttons down while closing the doors. It worked! This was also on a 89 E30 and now all of my power windows work! Thanks Scotty!
Thank you, Scotty I just bought an 03 Corolla with what I thought was broken window motor. I did the slam trick that you showed, and it worked like a charm! YOURE THE MAN
Great advice, Scotty. I use silicone spray on the window run channels once a year. Every couple of years or so I pull the door panels and lube the regulators. I see window regulator failures on customer cars all the time.
Here's one more: 2 of the windows in my 2007 Nissan Murano stopped working within a few weeks of each other when the weather was hot. My air conditioner was also broken. I suspect snow fell in the window switch when I rolled the window down that winter. After thinking about the possible causes for weeks (and looking at the prices for replacement assemblies online), I took the switches out, took them apart, and looked at the contacts. They had black deposits on them from years of overuse, so I sprayed some De-oxit contact cleaner on it and rubbed the black stuff off. Worked like a charm.
Many thanks, slamming the door with the button depressed worked a treat. Then I used the Silicone spray all around and enev sprayed in the window gaps before trying to raise the window. Gave it a few more squirts and the window works as new. Thanks again. With the hot weather here in Australia, they tend to stick.
Electric windows do have a controller for each motor that senses the current. When the window reaches a mechanical limit, the motor slows down and the current goes up. The controller keeps the voltage applied for maybe 1/2 second, then shuts off the motor. Window motors used to have a circuit breaker to avoid high stall current.
Hey Scotty! I just bought an 03 Camry with 126,000 miles for four grand. One of the rear windows didn’t go down...Your trick of closing the door while actuating the button worked like a charm! The previous owner was a chain smoker and residue from all those years of smoking lock the window in the up position! LOL thanks for saving me a bundle Scotty
love the videos Scotty. I fixed my power windows with LPS 1 spray. I think my better half spilled a coffee in the master window control last year. LPS 1 is a greaseless lubricant, repels water, cleans and restores electrical boards. Just take the controller apart as much as your comfortable and spray away inside it. I then blow it out with air very well. I have fixed 2 very expensive electronic parts with it. 2 for 2. Use at your own risk though, I am no expert, but it worked great for me. This would be a good product to feature!
Dunno how it is in USA, but here in Australia power windows have load and limit switches so the motor just turns off when the window shuts all the way, or if something gets in the way.
Scotty, thanks SO much for sharing this trick! I was suffering for almost 2 months in the summer heat with my power windows not working. And since I have a coolant leak, I couldn't run the a/c to long or the engine would overheat. So after I tried slamming the door while holding the trigger, it broke free!! I'm so happy that I can drive around comfortably again.
Hey Scotty I allways make sure the up pressure is relieved after the window is up by slightly hit down and watch the door releave it's pressure. I had a 95 f 150 that everytime the widow was up the door panel moves out a bit and after time the door started to crack.
You might also want to try spraying the cable where it goes into the drum assembly (or the cable housing that leads into the drum assembly). If they're really old, the cable could be binding up on a dry housing, and some silicone or lithium might get them lubed up and working better.
Silicone spray is also good to spray on the weatherstrip around the doors and the trunk when the weather will be wet and a hard freeze. Wipe off the excess, if necessary. This prevents doors from sticking when the moisture freezes.
Thank you Scotty! You made me realise my switches were dodgy because water got in to it, sprayed in some normal WD-40 to the switch unit, cleared any moisture out, now working perfectly normal and auto. (The switches had been confused and about whether to go up or down so they must have been shorting from the water or something) Now I don't have to order a new switch unit :D
Thank you very much, Scotty! Did this same thing to my car - it fixed the issue! Can not express enough how grateful I am for your knowledge and help! Saved me lots of time and money!
I have had very few window problems over the years, but all my problems were mechanical - a guide, a roller, or snubber out of adjustment [or broken] allowing the glass to tilt out of good geometry and jamming in the track- registers were fine. The real trick is always how to get the inside door panel off with zero damage to get at things to inspect & fix - some cars require special tools to release snap in style retainers, which work way better than just poking a screwdriver around haphazardly..
I guess I better start applying the window lock for my dog, because when the window's open, she constantly the pushes button while riding in the car, because she's knows how it works, and I didn't realize it could mess up the motor.
Litigious Society My pug fell out of my car b/c she was leaning on the pw switch on a 2012 Range Rover. The pw lockout was faulty - lucked out in that she wasn’t run over by following traffic as she was stunned from the fall... drove straight to the veterinarian and was very lucky - learned to keep her and my 3 other dogs in the rear cargo area behind the dog barrier that I’ve installed in each vehicle
"Front vent windows"? That brings back childhood memories of my Dad's English Vauxhall Viva. That was as basic a car as you could get. No AC. No power windows. No power steering. Just pure car.
Yup. When I had to buy a new car in 2013 (my KIA Rio was close to its end, adfter 170K of hard communter striving), I looked for one without power windows or locks. I admit, I found one, but it was otherwise not a great car. So, now I have a Honda Fit (base). And yup, I've had power window problems. Thank you, Scotty, for some ideas. But, could you tell me why I hear a "squeal" in vicinity of door/window controls when I turn engine off?
Scotty you did it again. I acquired a nice 2001 Grand Marquis a few months back. Neither front window would work. I slammed the drivers door while holding the button down and it fixed it. I wasn't so luckey with the passenger door, but 1 out of 2 ain't bad. And drivers window is most important anyway. I put silicone on the 3 window tracks that work. Thank you.
If your lights are "weak" at night. Make sure that they are not just getting old. I thought for sure I was losing my ability to see until I replaced my head lamps. They dimmed so slowly over the years my mind did not catch it.
OMG, THANK YOU for this!!! For the majority of the life of my car (which is 18 years now), I thought I had faulty power window wiring (my rear windows would work randomly like maybe 3 times a year). I thought about getting it repaired but procrastinated for the longest time thinking the labor cost would be ridiculous. Then I tried exactly what you did here (including slamming the doors) and IT WORKED! That silicone spray is a lifesaver! I rarely use my rear windows but I'll roll them up and down just to see them work.
I've been doing this for decades. I've had to replace just one window motor...in an Astro with 240,000 miles. One thing I can tell you, sand in the track will cause a lot of problems. This happened to a Jeep, which I just moved on to a guy who saw the diamond in the rough I was offering. Sand had gotten on it from road sand for snow here in Wisconsin. Buggered it all sorts of up. Dead of winter is no time to be putting water on your window tracks unless you're ok with a window frozen shut till May. The grinding was awful and the window motor was straining against the abrasive sand. I knew it was a short time before I moved it on, just needed it to get through this winter. Bought a RAV4 per Scotty's recommendations.
Never slam shut your doors with the windows halfway, my window regulator's aluminum cast broke as a result of the glass momentum. Either windows fully close or fully opened when shutting the doors.
Been doing it for years & not a single problem so far 🤷♂️unless ofcourse our 2005 Toyota Corolla, but that was a cheap car & the power windows were notorious for going out in that generation.
Sprayed some W40 silicon on my car door locks since one of em didn't want to lock. And it started working again! Saved a couple of hundred dollars on repairs! Thanks Scotty!
Some years back I had a power window motor lacking lubrication stop working.Simply taking the motor apart (not easy as the shaft was stuck in place) and greasing the motor shaft where the bushing slides on was all it needed to work as good as new. Sometimes the factory does not use as much grease as needed (maybe none) and parts can stick over time.
Mr.Kilmer, again, you're the best! I've learned so much from you & applied all of it already. God bless you. & God keep the trouble away from you & your family!!
Scott you the man. I had my power window. Stuck and wasn't going down till I seen your video. And to press the button slam the door . God it worked. Ty Richard from N.Y.C. I watch all your videos!
You didn't mention that in my case I try to get the window to stop near the top to keep the car cool but the automatic action wants to send the window all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom no matter how I press the switch. It takes me a number of presses to get it to stop where I want it.
I have auto-up and down windows in my truck. One time when I pushed the auto-down and released the button the window stopped. I went by the dealer and the tech writer opened the door and did something and it was fixed. He told me if the auto up and down feature has a computer module on it and If it acted up I should hold the button down 3 seconds after the window goes all the way down and do it again when the window go all the way up. He says it re-programs the computer module board in the door.
I think the silicone spray also rejuvinates the rubber, like new. Just don't put on your tire treads. You want the car to sometimes slow down, or even stop.
When I bought a used 2001 CRV a few months ago I noticed the windows sounded like they were struggling. Found an old video of yours taking about this silicone spray and I sprayed that in the tracks. After it soaked the whole track, the windows are much, much better. They run faster and with less noise. Good you remade the video for newer viewers to find
I also made sure that the plastic seals weren't stuck on the window as much as i could, slightly pushing window in and out to allow more movement. Then it finally came down
Scotty, please consider slowing down your verbal cadence. Also, slow down rapid jester int, as I want to slowly hear, and see, content. Thankyou for allowing me to respond.
i open all 4 windows almost everyday in the driveway for 2hours or so before daily-driving it. reduce chance of window sticking, and you have no odor in your car. this habit and a silicon spray ensure not only my window is stick-free but it is all running at the same speed. i hate it when the left rear window is slower or faster than the right one.
I was looking for regulators and motors before I came across this video, because my front passenger was going up slowly. I used a silicone spray, and it immediately worked! Thanks again, Scotty!
I see where you’re coming from. But as a 21 year olds female, who never had a dad around to teach me these things, I find videos like this very helpful. I don’t think it’s cool to bash on people for needing to learn things- especially if it’s not common knowledge. Everyone has different areas of expertise and exposure. You just happened to be exposed to this kind of stuff from an early age!
My 2007 Ford Fusion has 153,734 miles and the windows work like brand new with so much power it surprises me how fast they operate, the one owner kept this car like new. He was the dealer of a car dealership👍🏽🙏🏾
Mainly by stealing parts off of other people's cars.🙈 Russians: do you still take your windshield wipers off when you park and put them on just before driving?
Got up to get some fresh air and thought I might as well give this a go as a quick 10 minute job. 3 hours and an uncomfortable sunburn later I managed to get my rear passenger side window to come back up after removing several door cards, disassembling the power window switches, removing all the corrosion on the internal electrical points, testing downstream voltages and finally reassembling. What I learned - never buy a secondhand Ford Falcon again. Also window motor circuits have more amps than I expected. Painfully so.
this tip worked like a charm!! My driver side window was having trouble rolling up/down smoothly. tried the silicone spray...after a few hrs works PERFECTLY. thanks scotty!!

Hey Scotty I allways make sure the up pressure is relieved after the window is up by slightly hit down and watch the door releave it's pressure. I had a 95 f 150 that everytime the widow was up the door panel moves out a bit and after time the door started to crack.
I've been watching Scotty long enough to have already seen this video by him years ago. Been using that WD40 on my windows since.
I love how you create such excitement about what you talk ! it is uplifting !!
Thank you Scotty, my Subaru windows have been going up and down so slow for years!
Did spraying them with silicone wd40 work?
@@1lifeonearth I have not tried yet
You might also want to try spraying the cable where it goes into the drum assembly (or the cable housing that leads into the drum assembly). If they're really old, the cable could be binding up on a dry housing, and some silicone or lithium might get them lubed up and working better.
everything in a subaru is slow...lol
@@MichaelDavis-cy4ok thank you very much!
Thanks Scotty! This Fix Saved my sticking driver side window. Keep up the Great Tips! I love your channel, You've taught me A Lot!
Silicone spray is also good to spray on the weatherstrip around the doors and the trunk when the weather will be wet and a hard freeze. Wipe off the excess, if necessary. This prevents doors from sticking when the moisture freezes.
You know you’re in Texas when your mechanic tells you to not spill beer in your car.
Yes, yes... Just few years ago beer was consoderer baverage drinck in Russia.
Maybe he meant root beer... * shrug *
Yup! When you drink and drive, make sure to keep your beer in your right hand, away from the electric window switches. LOL!!!!!!
hahhahahah
@@michaelstansfield319 Yeah, don't want to hit a bump and spill your beer.
I got this issue on my Camry and I fixed right now thank you Scotty
Range Rover
Theres your problem right there
dawicked69 😂
Range Rover is an ugly sub
Hand cranks for the side/drivers window and front vent windows those were the days.
True!!!... trouble free!!!!!
"Front vent windows"? That brings back childhood memories of my Dad's English Vauxhall Viva. That was as basic a car as you could get. No AC. No power windows. No power steering. Just pure car.
@Ken Lompart And the Bee/hornet scooper!
It's 2020 why haven't the engineers developed a manual override for when the motor fails. For some of us that would be while it is raining. 😕
You have a great "live free or die" sign. The only way to live. Scotty is the real deal
if you are in the US and think you are "free", you are delusional
@@yarpos if you live in any country thinking you are free you are delusional.
Thank you.
Did the door slam while pressing the button and it worked! Now I have both my rear windows working again. Thanks Scottie
You're the best mechanic on UA-cam! Thank you for all you do!👍
If your lights are "weak" at night.
!that of thought haven't I
Been doing it for years & not a single problem so far 🤷♂️unless ofcourse our 2005 Toyota Corolla, but that was a cheap car & the power windows were notorious for going out in that generation.
Oh ✋ it
THANK YOU!
That is the regulator fault...not motor
I've never been so engaged to watch a video about power windows. Good job man
Good to know about the silicone spray. Thank you for the advice Scotty! I'll do that on the family fleet.
Sprayed some W40 silicon on my car door locks since one of em didn't want to lock. And it started working again! Saved a couple of hundred dollars on repairs! Thanks Scotty!
THANK YOU Scotty for sharing your 50 years of knowledge on auto maintenance!
You like shafts?🤔
Scotty... You are a great man..Thanks for all the help you give..God blessings always.
Mr.Kilmer, again, you're the best!
I've learned so much from you & applied all of it already.
God bless you. & God keep the trouble away from you & your family!!
Your door slamming technique worked like a charm.
Thank you for saving me considerable time and money.
Scott you the man. I had my power window. Stuck and wasn't going down till I seen your video. And to press the button slam the door . God it worked. Ty
Richard from N.Y.C.
I watch all your videos!
Keep STICKY STUFF AWAY TRUE STORY AND (BEER)YES NO BEER LOL LOVE IT
You didn't mention that in my case I try to get the window to stop near the top to keep the car cool but the automatic action wants to send the window all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom no matter how I press the switch.
What year and make?
@@pakmeigen6359 It was a 2016 RAM Laramie. I believe this may work in a lot of the electric windows.
I think the silicone spray also rejuvinates the rubber, like new. Just don't put on your tire treads. You want the car to sometimes slow down, or even stop.
Thanks Scotty....... My truck's front passenger door window was stuck...... I tried your recommended solution and it worked !!!!!
5:50 Don’t Drink and Drive cause you might spill beer on your window switch. Gotcha! Love your videos, keep up the good work!
I live in my van and have window issues. I wish I could have watched this video a year ago.
Rev up your power windows!
Not for too long or youll mess up the motor
😂😂
When I bought a used 2001 CRV a few months ago I noticed the windows sounded like they were struggling. Found an old video of yours taking about this silicone spray and I sprayed that in the tracks. After it soaked the whole track, the windows are much, much better. They run faster and with less noise. Good you remade the video for newer viewers to find
I just tried your slam-a-door trick on my powerful 2003 Pontiac Vibe, and it worked! Thanks uncle Scotty.
Silicone Spray is good for door locks too and for your home and I love my Cadillac with it's auto up and down windows.
Getting Roll Up Windows are the answer to power glass....
Power windows are the dark sister to an automatic transmission.
GEG
No
Gardener Earth Guy yeah I wish I had the old manual window letter upper I miss em never had any problems with those
I honestly prefer the manual windows too
Also the regulator, switches, motor, sound dampening foam etc modern doors are so thick, I miss doors on 80s and early 90s Honda's and toyotas
And where do i find ANY newer vehicles that have wind up windows?
Am I wrong to like a Scotty Kilmer video before I watch? Not at all, no shame!
Not wrong bro..Scocttie is that Dude
Scotty i love you! !! Just fixed my back window and now it works again with the door trick!!
Don't let a little dog stand on the up down buttons they like to do that while riding
WHAT.......no memes!?!?! This must be a first!!!! Thanks for the tips, Scotty👍
No, but if you look quick, you will see Lucy Kilmer @3:20.
...omgosh I want my old roll up windows back!
I was looking for regulators and motors before I came across this video, because my front passenger was going up slowly. I used a silicone spray, and it immediately worked! Thanks again, Scotty!
I watched this video 2 yrs ago and this trick has worked dozens of times on my 2007 Dodge Caliber
Don't spill beer in your car.
-Scott Kilmer. 😂👍
0:45 Scotty doesn't have to deal with electronics breaking down😂
Funny, I learned this when I was 8, I'm over 50 now, sad adults need to be taught this, maybe not, never to old to learn, ty Scotty
I would love to sped all day in a garage with you Scotty. You are the best and simple explanation for everything.Well done mate.
Another tip, don't buy a Buick Century, those power windows need replacing every year
Who buys Buicks anymore? Lol
Mine didn't
True, we had three and I replaced two on each car
Had a 15 regal gs and it was the worst car I ever owned.
My 1990 Bonneville's power windows all still work somehow at 295K. Slow.. But still go up and down all the way.
in Russia everything is repaired with WD- 40 and blue adhesive tape
Mainly by stealing parts off of other people's cars.🙈
Russians: do you still take your windshield wipers off when you park and put them on just before driving?
Hahaha, I think that's all over the world, especially if you are male. If WD-40 doesn't do the job then duct tape does!😜
Thanks so much scotty my windows was giving me this very problem ❤
3:35 Some people need this to , so they automatically shut up at the right time,🤪😂🤣
