I had this exact problem with my Toyota Avalon. The right front door window wouldn't go down when I tried to activate it from the driver's side control. It was stuck. I did what Scotty advised and it worked! Thank you Scotty!
I've been maintaining and repairing my cars etc for 57 years. One of my older cars (one of many I have) is a 1990 TWR Jaguar XJS 3.6 manual in mint condition with only 41k miles on the clock. I've owned this one for 8 years and the passenger side window has always been stuck closed. I could tell it was getting power as there was a small dip in the brightness of lights when the switch was pressed but it would never move. Then I watched this and went straight out to try the door-slam trick. I opened the door. pressed the switch and firmly closed the door. Nothing. I did it again. Nothing. I did it again and down came the window!! Thanks a whole lot, Scotty. Just shows your're never to old to learn!! If I ever meet you I will buy you a beer or ten!!

This really worked. I had a really slow driver side window. Gave it a decent sized spray and now it works great. I'd been putting it off for a couple years. Scotty's video made me finally do it.
Great advice, Scotty. I use silicone spray on the window run channels once a year. Every couple of years or so I pull the door panels and lube the regulators. I see window regulator failures on customer cars all the time.
Hey I tried the holding the power window buttons down while closing the doors. It worked! This was also on a 89 E30 and now all of my power windows work! Thanks Scotty!
love the videos Scotty. I fixed my power windows with LPS 1 spray. I think my better half spilled a coffee in the master window control last year. LPS 1 is a greaseless lubricant, repels water, cleans and restores electrical boards. Just take the controller apart as much as your comfortable and spray away inside it. I then blow it out with air very well. I have fixed 2 very expensive electronic parts with it. 2 for 2. Use at your own risk though, I am no expert, but it worked great for me. This would be a good product to feature!
Never slam shut your doors with the windows halfway, my window regulator's aluminum cast broke as a result of the glass momentum. Either windows fully close or fully opened when shutting the doors.
Been doing it for years & not a single problem so far 🤷♂️unless ofcourse our 2005 Toyota Corolla, but that was a cheap car & the power windows were notorious for going out in that generation.
I guess I better start applying the window lock for my dog, because when the window's open, she constantly the pushes button while riding in the car, because she's knows how it works, and I didn't realize it could mess up the motor.
Litigious Society My pug fell out of my car b/c she was leaning on the pw switch on a 2012 Range Rover. The pw lockout was faulty - lucked out in that she wasn’t run over by following traffic as she was stunned from the fall... drove straight to the veterinarian and was very lucky - learned to keep her and my 3 other dogs in the rear cargo area behind the dog barrier that I’ve installed in each vehicle
*My 2013 Ford Edge Limited AWD only had an automatic window for the driver's side. The other windows were regular power windows. Now I have automatic windows on the driver's side and the passenger side. It was fun.*
You might also want to try spraying the cable where it goes into the drum assembly (or the cable housing that leads into the drum assembly). If they're really old, the cable could be binding up on a dry housing, and some silicone or lithium might get them lubed up and working better.
Thank you very much, Scotty! Did this same thing to my car - it fixed the issue! Can not express enough how grateful I am for your knowledge and help! Saved me lots of time and money!
"Front vent windows"? That brings back childhood memories of my Dad's English Vauxhall Viva. That was as basic a car as you could get. No AC. No power windows. No power steering. Just pure car.
Yup. When I had to buy a new car in 2013 (my KIA Rio was close to its end, adfter 170K of hard communter striving), I looked for one without power windows or locks. I admit, I found one, but it was otherwise not a great car. So, now I have a Honda Fit (base). And yup, I've had power window problems. Thank you, Scotty, for some ideas. But, could you tell me why I hear a "squeal" in vicinity of door/window controls when I turn engine off?
Many thanks, slamming the door with the button depressed worked a treat. Then I used the Silicone spray all around and enev sprayed in the window gaps before trying to raise the window. Gave it a few more squirts and the window works as new. Thanks again. With the hot weather here in Australia, they tend to stick.
Hey Scotty! I just bought an 03 Camry with 126,000 miles for four grand. One of the rear windows didn’t go down...Your trick of closing the door while actuating the button worked like a charm! The previous owner was a chain smoker and residue from all those years of smoking lock the window in the up position! LOL thanks for saving me a bundle Scotty
Scotty, thanks SO much for sharing this trick! I was suffering for almost 2 months in the summer heat with my power windows not working. And since I have a coolant leak, I couldn't run the a/c to long or the engine would overheat. So after I tried slamming the door while holding the trigger, it broke free!! I'm so happy that I can drive around comfortably again.
Thank you Scotty! You made me realise my switches were dodgy because water got in to it, sprayed in some normal WD-40 to the switch unit, cleared any moisture out, now working perfectly normal and auto. (The switches had been confused and about whether to go up or down so they must have been shorting from the water or something) Now I don't have to order a new switch unit :D
Some years back I had a power window motor lacking lubrication stop working.Simply taking the motor apart (not easy as the shaft was stuck in place) and greasing the motor shaft where the bushing slides on was all it needed to work as good as new. Sometimes the factory does not use as much grease as needed (maybe none) and parts can stick over time.
Here's one more: 2 of the windows in my 2007 Nissan Murano stopped working within a few weeks of each other when the weather was hot. My air conditioner was also broken. I suspect snow fell in the window switch when I rolled the window down that winter. After thinking about the possible causes for weeks (and looking at the prices for replacement assemblies online), I took the switches out, took them apart, and looked at the contacts. They had black deposits on them from years of overuse, so I sprayed some De-oxit contact cleaner on it and rubbed the black stuff off. Worked like a charm.
I also made sure that the plastic seals weren't stuck on the window as much as i could, slightly pushing window in and out to allow more movement. Then it finally came down
Mr.Kilmer, again, you're the best! I've learned so much from you & applied all of it already. God bless you. & God keep the trouble away from you & your family!!
Scott you the man. I had my power window. Stuck and wasn't going down till I seen your video. And to press the button slam the door . God it worked. Ty Richard from N.Y.C. I watch all your videos!
Scotty you did it again. I acquired a nice 2001 Grand Marquis a few months back. Neither front window would work. I slammed the drivers door while holding the button down and it fixed it. I wasn't so luckey with the passenger door, but 1 out of 2 ain't bad. And drivers window is most important anyway. I put silicone on the 3 window tracks that work. Thank you.
OMG, THANK YOU for this!!! For the majority of the life of my car (which is 18 years now), I thought I had faulty power window wiring (my rear windows would work randomly like maybe 3 times a year). I thought about getting it repaired but procrastinated for the longest time thinking the labor cost would be ridiculous. Then I tried exactly what you did here (including slamming the doors) and IT WORKED! That silicone spray is a lifesaver! I rarely use my rear windows but I'll roll them up and down just to see them work.
Andy Helms Agreed. Even in a busy shop, a can like that can serve for years. You only need a small spritz of that stuff anyways. Tbh when he was spraying that window’s frame, he was using a little too much.
Thanks Scotty . I think you're a nut. My kind of person. Always find your videos very helpful. Lots really common sense after I see them . Thanks again
Sprayed some W40 silicon on my car door locks since one of em didn't want to lock. And it started working again! Saved a couple of hundred dollars on repairs! Thanks Scotty!
If your lights are "weak" at night. Make sure that they are not just getting old. I thought for sure I was losing my ability to see until I replaced my head lamps. They dimmed so slowly over the years my mind did not catch it.
I was looking for regulators and motors before I came across this video, because my front passenger was going up slowly. I used a silicone spray, and it immediately worked! Thanks again, Scotty!
Scotty, I've found that just tapping the window switch down when they are all the way up just enough to make the window drop less than 1/8" takes the strain off of the window regulator, especially helpful with most newer cars where they use the cable regulator and plastic parts to hold the cable bead. This is especially helpful if the car will be parked for a long time with the windows up.I think it also leaves the motor with a little free play so if the window does stick it can break it loose by giving it a running start when the tension hits the cable. I handle a fleet of vehicles and the windows are always sticking like that, I've been doing the slam the door trick for years. Glad you showed everyone how it's done. One thing you should have mentioned is to do it with the engine running to give higher voltage to the motor. Keep the videos coming. Ha, I like that you listed common sense in the things used in this video but you may need to explain what that is to the millennials or over-educated. I saw your capacitor jump starter listed too. Aren't they the best thing ever? I got a Schumacher brand 800A and I use it all the time, I used it to start a F550 Super Duty pickup (actually a Bearcat) after something drained both batteries. It fired it up just like the batteries were fully charged. The one you listed is a better deal, mine cost about $200 and it's only 100 amp more.
Scotty- you are a legend. You do a super job with your whole body explanation. You have saved people lots of time and with combined savings of them- thousands and thousands of dollars, perhaps millions. Thank you.
When I bought a used 2001 CRV a few months ago I noticed the windows sounded like they were struggling. Found an old video of yours taking about this silicone spray and I sprayed that in the tracks. After it soaked the whole track, the windows are much, much better. They run faster and with less noise. Good you remade the video for newer viewers to find
this tip worked like a charm!! My driver side window was having trouble rolling up/down smoothly. tried the silicone spray...after a few hrs works PERFECTLY. thanks scotty!!

You like shafts?🤔
Here's one more:
2 of the windows in my 2007 Nissan Murano stopped working within a few weeks of each other when the weather was hot.
Your door slamming technique worked like a charm.
Thank you for saving me considerable time and money.
Scotty i love you! !! Just fixed my back window and now it works again with the door trick!!
I got this issue on my Camry and I fixed right now thank you Scotty
Rev up your power windows!
Not for too long or youll mess up the motor
😂😂
Scott you the man. I had my power window. Stuck and wasn't going down till I seen your video. And to press the button slam the door . God it worked. Ty
Richard from N.Y.C.
Thank you.
Getting Roll Up Windows are the answer to power glass....
Power windows are the dark sister to an automatic transmission.
GEG
No
Gardener Earth Guy yeah I wish I had the old manual window letter upper I miss em never had any problems with those
I honestly prefer the manual windows too
Also the regulator, switches, motor, sound dampening foam etc modern doors are so thick, I miss doors on 80s and early 90s Honda's and toyotas
And where do i find ANY newer vehicles that have wind up windows?
WHAT.......no memes!?!?! This must be a first!!!! Thanks for the tips, Scotty👍
No, but if you look quick, you will see Lucy Kilmer @3:20.
One of my favourite UA-cam channels, by far. Eccentric, funny and brilliant. A recipe for entertainment (and educational) success.
I would love to sped all day in a garage with you Scotty. You are the best and simple explanation for everything.Well done mate.
Ironic that the WD-40 can is covered with rust
I was thinking the exact same thing!
That WD-40 can has been around, since his first show! Ha!
Andy Helms Agreed. Even in a busy shop, a can like that can serve for years. You only need a small spritz of that stuff anyways. Tbh when he was spraying that window’s frame, he was using a little too much.
it’s just surface rust
That can is you guessed it, FIFTY ONE years old!
5:50 Don’t Drink and Drive cause you might spill beer on your window switch. Gotcha! Love your videos, keep up the good work!
Another tip, don't buy a Buick Century, those power windows need replacing every year
Who buys Buicks anymore? Lol
Mine didn't
True, we had three and I replaced two on each car
Had a 15 regal gs and it was the worst car I ever owned.
My 1990 Bonneville's power windows all still work somehow at 295K. Slow.. But still go up and down all the way.
Scotty you are a great man . You have saved our lives. God bless you 🙏 and your family.
Wish you lived down the road from me! I sooo appreciate your honest approach to car repairs...you’ve given so much valuable information.
TY!
Scotty, you are a treasure. Keep it coming, Buddy.
Thanks Scotty . I think you're a nut. My kind of person. Always find your videos very helpful. Lots really common sense after I see them . Thanks again
...omgosh I want my old roll up windows back!
I just tried your slam-a-door trick on my powerful 2003 Pontiac Vibe, and it worked! Thanks uncle Scotty.
Thanks Scotty....... My truck's front passenger door window was stuck...... I tried your recommended solution and it worked !!!!!
Silicone Spray is good for door locks too and for your home and I love my Cadillac with it's auto up and down windows.
I've been watching Scotty long enough to have already seen this video by him years ago. Been using that WD40 on my windows since.
I live in my van and have window issues. I wish I could have watched this video a year ago.
Did the door slam while pressing the button and it worked! Now I have both my rear windows working again. Thanks Scottie
Excellent, thanks, Scotty. You are a walking encyclopedia on car fixes and maintenance!
apparently he's been a mechanic for 51 years lol
0:45 Scotty doesn't have to deal with electronics breaking down😂
I was looking for regulators and motors before I came across this video, because my front passenger was going up slowly.
3:35 Some people need this to , so they automatically shut up at the right time,🤪😂🤣
Absolutely... for no circumstance should you ever spill your beer on your power window switches while your driving. @5:50
Funny, I learned this when I was 8, I'm over 50 now, sad adults need to be taught this, maybe not, never to old to learn, ty Scotty
I see where you’re coming from. But as a 21 year olds female, who never had a dad around to teach me these things, I find videos like this very helpful. I don’t think it’s cool to bash on people for needing to learn things- especially if it’s not common knowledge. Everyone has different areas of expertise and exposure. You just happened to be exposed to this kind of stuff from an early age!
in Russia everything is repaired with WD- 40 and blue adhesive tape
Mainly by stealing parts off of other people's cars.🙈
Russians: do you still take your windshield wipers off when you park and put them on just before driving?
Hahaha, I think that's all over the world, especially if you are male. If WD-40 doesn't do the job then duct tape does!😜
Thanks so much scotty my windows was giving me this very problem ❤
This fixed my Mitsubishi L200 - 00 right up. Thanks a lot Scotty!
I just found this video. My 2006 Nissan Titan drivers side power window stopped working. I followed this video and it worked. Nice!!!!!!
You're saving the life of my car with this one. Love watching your videos and thanks for the awesome content Savagescotty!
Don't spill beer in your car.
-Scott Kilmer. 😂👍
Scotty: "Don't spill beer in your electric switches."
Me: immediately pauses video and scolls to the comments
Definitely don't spill any hard liquor in the buttons either especially while you're driving.
In Texas it's always Shiner Bock.
I have power window on my 94 Celica ST. Great video Scotty!
Thank you Scotty! My automatic window wouldn’t go up all the way and this fixed it right away
